We investigate quantitative estimates in periodic homogenization of second-order elliptic systems of elasticity with singular fourth-order perturbations. The convergence rates, which depend on the scale $κ$ that represents the strength of the singular perturbation and on the length scale $ε$ of the heterogeneities, are established. We also obtain the large-scale Lipschitz estimate, down to the scale $ε$ and independent of $κ$. This large-scale estimate, when combined with small-scale estimates, yields the classical Lipschitz estimate that is uniform in both $ε$ and $κ$.
We study Bloch wave homogenization of periodically heterogeneous media with fourth order singular perturbations. We recover different homogenization regimes depending on the relative strength of the singular perturbation and length scale of the periodic heterogeneity. The homogenized tensor is obtained in terms of the first Bloch eigenvalue. The higher Bloch modes do not contribute to the homogenization limit.
We prove a quantitative rate of homogenization for the G equation in a random environment with finite range of dependence. Using ideas from percolation theory, the proof bootstraps a result of Cardaliaguet and Souganidis, who proved qualitative homogenization in a more general ergodic environment.
This paper investigates quantitative estimates in the homogenization of second-order elliptic systems with periodic coefficients that oscillate on multiple separated scales. We establish large-scale interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates down to the finest microscopic scale via iteration and rescaling arguments. We also obtain a convergence rate in the $L^2$ space by the reiterated homogenization method.
In this manuscript we prove quantitative homogenization results for the obstacle problem with bounded measurable coefficients. As a consequence, large-scale regularity results both for the solution and the free boundary for the heterogeneous obstacle problem are derived.
We continue the program initiated in a previous work, of applying integro-differential methods to Neumann Homogenization problems. We target the case of linear periodic equations with a singular drift, which includes (with some regularity assumptions) divergence equations with \emph{non-co-normal} oscillatory Neumann conditions. Our analysis focuses on an induced integro-differential homogenization problem on the boundary of the domain. Also, we use homogenization results for regular Dirichlet problems to build barriers for the oscillatory Neumann problem with the singular gradient term. We no…
We obtain the first quantitative stochastic homogenization result for reaction-diffusion equations, for ignition reactions in dimensions $d\le 3$ that either have finite ranges of dependence or are close enough to such reactions, and for solutions with initial data that approximate characteristic functions of general convex sets. We show algebraic rate of convergence of these solutions to their homogenized limits, which are (discontinuous) viscosity solutions of certain related Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
We apply new results on free boundary regularity of one-phase almost minimizers in periodic media to obtain a quantitative convergence rate for the shape optimizers of the first Dirichlet eigenvalue in periodic homogenization. We obtain a linear (with logarithmic factors) convergence rate for the optimizing eigenvalue. Large scale Lipschitz free boundary regularity of almost minimizers is used to apply the optimal $L^2$ homogenization theory in Lipschitz domains of Kenig, Lin and Shen. A key idea, to deal with the hard constraint on the volume, is a combination of a large scale almost dilation…
In this article we are interested in quantitative homogenization results for linear elliptic equations in the non-stationary situation of a straight interface between two heterogenous media. This extends the previous work [Josien, 2019] to a substantially more general setting, in which the surrounding heterogeneous media may be periodic or random stationary and ergodic. Our main result is a quantification of the sublinearity of a homogenization corrector adapted to the interface, which we construct using an improved version of the method developed in [Fischer and Raithel, 2017]. This quantific…
This paper investigates quantitative estimates in elliptic homogenization of non-divergence form with unbounded drift and an interface, which continues the study of the previous work by Hairer and Manson [Ann. Probab. 39(2011) 648-682], where they investigated the limiting long time/large scale behavior of such a process under diffusive rescaling. We determine the effective equation and obtain the size estimates of the gradient of Green functions as well as the optimal (in general) convergence rates. The proof relies on transferring the non-divergence form into the divergence-form with the coe…
We consider a quasi-linear homogenization problem in a two-dimensional pre-fractal domain $Ω_n$, for $n\in\mathbb{N}$, surrounded by thick fibers of amplitude $\varepsilon$. We introduce a sequence of "pre-homogenized" energy functionals and we prove that this sequence converges in a suitable sense to a quasi-linear fractal energy functional involving a $p$-energy on the fractal boundary. We prove existence and uniqueness results for (quasi-linear) pre-homogenized and homogenized fractal problems. The convergence of the solutions is also investigated.
In this paper, we are interested in the reiterated homogenization of linear elliptic equations of the form $-\frac{\partial}{\partial x_{i}} \left(a_{i j} \left(\frac{x}{\varepsilon}, \frac{x}{\varepsilon^{2}}\right) \frac{\partial u_\varepsilon}{\partial x_{j}}\right)=f$ in $Ω$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We obtain error estimates $O(\varepsilon)$ for a bounded $C^{1,1}$ domain for this equation as well as the interior Lipschitz estimates at (very) large scale. Compared to the general homogenization problems, the difficulty in the reiterated homogenization is that we need to handle di…
We study homogenization it its most basic form $$-\left(a\left(\frac{x}{\varepsilon}\right) u_{\varepsilon}'(x)\right)' = f(x) \quad \mbox{for} ~x \in (0,1),$$ where $a(\cdot)$ is a positive $1-$periodic continuous function, $f$ is smooth and $u_{\varepsilon}$ is subjected to Dirichlet boundary conditions. Classically, there is a homogenized equation with $a(\cdot)$ replaced by a constant coefficient $\overline{a} > 0$ whose solution $u$ satisfies $\|u-u_{\varepsilon}\|_{L^{\infty}} \lesssim \varepsilon$. We show that local averages can result in faster convergence: for example, if $a(x) = a(1…
We establish large-scale interior Lipschitz estimates for solutions to systems of linear elasticity with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients and Dirichlet boundary conditions in domains with periodically placed inclusions of size $\mathcal{O}(\varepsilon)$ and magnitude $δ$ by establishing $H^1$-convergence rates for such solutions. The interior estimates at the macroscopic scale are derived directly without the use of compactness via a Campanato-type scheme presented by S. Armstrong and C.K. Smart and that was adapted for uniformly elliptic equations in by Armstrong and Z. Shen.
In this paper we study quantitative stochastic homogenization of a nonlinearly elastic composite material with a laminate microstructure. We prove that for deformations close to the set of rotations the homogenized stored energy function $W_{\rm hom}$ is $C^3$ and that $W_{\rm hom}$, the stress-tensor $DW_{\rm hom}$, and the tangent-moduli $D^2W_{\rm hom}$ can be represented with help of stochastic correctors. Furthermore, we study the error of an approximation of these quantities via representative volume elements. More precisely, we consider periodic RVEs obtained by periodizing the distribu…
In this paper, we are interested in the periodic homogenization of quasilinear elliptic equations. We obtain error estimates $O(\varepsilon^{1/2})$ for a $C^{1,1}$ domain, and $O(\varepsilon^σ)$ for a Lipschitz domain, in which $σ\in(0,1/2)$ is close to zero. Based upon the convergence rates, an interior Lipschitz estimate, as well as a boundary Hölder estimate can be developed at large scales without any smoothness assumption, and these will implies reverse Hölder estimates established for a $C^1$ domain. By a real method developed by Z.Shen \cite{S3}, we consequently derive a global $W^{1,p}…
This work develops a quantitative homogenization theory for random suspensions of rigid particles in a steady Stokes flow, and completes recent qualitative results. More precisely, we establish a large-scale regularity theory for this Stokes problem, and we prove moment bounds for the associated correctors and optimal estimates on the homogenization error; the latter further requires a quantitative ergodicity assumption on the random suspension. Compared to the corresponding quantitative homogenization theory for divergence-form linear elliptic equations, substantial difficulties arise from th…
This is a preliminary version of a book which presents the quantitative homogenization and large-scale regularity theory for elliptic equations in divergence-form. The self-contained presentation gives new and simplified proofs of the core results proved in the last several years, including the algebraic convergence rate for the variational subadditive quantities, the large-scale Lipschitz and higher regularity estimates and Liouville-type results, optimal quantitative estimates on the first-order correctors and their scaling limit to a Gaussian free field. There are several chapters containin…
In $L_2(\mathbb{R}^d;\mathbb{C}^n)$, we consider a semigroup $e^{-tA_\varepsilon}$, $t\geqslant 0$, generated by a matrix elliptic second order differential operator $A_\varepsilon \geqslant 0$. Coefficients of $A_\varepsilon$ are periodic, depend on $\mathbf{x}/\varepsilon$ and oscillate rapidly as $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0$. Approximations for $e^{-tA_\varepsilon}$ were obtained by T. A. Suslina (2004, 2010) via the spectral method and by V. V. Zhikov and S. E. Pastukhova (2006) via the shift method. In the present note, we give another short proof based on the contour integral representati…
This paper was devoted to study the quantitative homogenization problems for nonlinear elliptic operators in perforated domains. We obtained a sharp error estimate $O(\varepsilon)$ when the problem was anchored in the reference domain $\varepsilonω$. If concerning a bounded perforated domain, one will see a bad influence from the boundary layers, which leads to the loss of the convergence rate by $O(\varepsilon^{1/2})$. Equipped with the error estimates, we developed both interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates at large-scales. As an application, we received the so-called quenched Calderón-Z…
We develop a quantitative theory of stochastic homogenization in the more general framework of differential forms. Inspired by recent progress in the uniformly elliptic setting, the analysis relies on the study of certain subadditive quantities. We establish an algebraic rate of convergence from these quantities and deduce from this an algebraic error estimate for the homogenization of the Dirichlet problem. Most of the ideas needed in this article comes from two distinct theory, the theory of quantitative stochastic homogenization, and the generalization of the main results of functional anal…
For a class of interacting particle systems in continuous space, we show that finite-volume approximations of the bulk diffusion matrix converge at an algebraic rate. The models we consider are reversible with respect to the Poisson measures with constant density, and are of non-gradient type. Our approach is inspired by recent progress in the quantitative homogenization of elliptic equations. Along the way, we develop suitable modifications of the Caccioppoli and multiscale Poincaré inequalities, which are of independent interest.

We consider discrete non-divergence form difference operators in a random environment and the corresponding process--the random walk in a balanced random environment in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with a finite range of dependence. We first quantify the ergodicity of the environment from the point of view of the particle. As a consequence, we quantify the quenched central limit theorem of the random walk with an algebraic rate. Furthermore, we prove an algebraic rate of convergence for the homogenization of the Dirichlet problems for both elliptic and parabolic non-divergence form difference operators.
This paper is concerned with quantitative homogenization of second-order parabolic systems with periodic coefficients varying rapidly in space and time, in different scales. We obtain large-scale interior and boundary Lipschitz estimates as well as interior $C^{1, α}$ and $C^{2, α}$ estimates by utilizing higher-order correctors. We also investigate the problem of convergence rates for initial-boundary value problems.
