We prove that if the $f$-sectional curvature at any point $p$ of a $(2n+s)$-dimensional $f$-$(κ,μ)$ manifold with $n>1$ is independent of the $f$-section at $p$, then it is constant on the manifold. Moreover, we also prove that an $f$-$(κ,μ)$ manifold which is not an $S$-manifold is of constant $f$-sectional curvature if and only if $μ=κ+1$ and we give an explicit expression for the curvature tensor field. Finally, we present some examples.
We investigate 3-dimensional almost Kenmotsu manifolds satisfying special types of nullity conditions depending on two smooth functions $κ,μ$. When either $κ<-1$ and $μ=0$ or $h=0$, such conditions coincide with the $κ$-nullity condition which we show to be equivalent to the $η$-Einstein one. As an application of this result, we obtain examples of $N(κ)$-quasi Einstein manifolds. Moreover, for the aforementioned manifolds, some complete local descriptions of their structure are established, building local "models" for each of them.
In this paper, we aim to introduce and study $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold and prove that if the $φ$-sectional curvature of any point of $M$ is independent of the choice of $φ$-section at the point, then it is constant on $M$ and accordingly the curvature tensor. Also, we introduce generalized $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold and prove for $n>1$, that a non-Sasakian generalized $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold is a $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold.
The paper is a complete study of paracontact metric manifolds for which the Reeb vector field of the underlying contact structure satisfies a nullity condition (the condition \eqref{paranullity} below, for some real numbers $% \tildeκ$ and $\tildeμ$). This class of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, which includes para-Sasakian manifolds, was recently defined in \cite{MOTE}. In this paper we show in fact that there is a kind of duality between those manifolds and contact metric $(κ,μ)$-spaces. In particular, we prove that, under some natural assumption, any such paracontact metric manifold admits a …
For a finite family of 3-dimensional almost contact metric manifolds with closed the structure form $η$ is described a construction of an almost contact metric manifold, where the members of the family are building blocks - cells. Obtained manifold share many properties of cells. One of the more important are nullity conditions. If cells satisfy nullity conditions - then - in the case of almost cosymplectic or almost $α$-Kenmotsu manifolds - "sewed cells" also satisfies nullity condition - but generally with different constants. It is important that even in the case of the generalized nullity …
We prove that any contact metric $(κ,μ)$-space $(M,ξ,ϕ,η,g)$ admits a canonical paracontact metric structure which is compatible with the contact form $η$. We study such canonical paracontact structure, proving that it verifies a nullity condition and induces on the underlying contact manifold $(M,η)$ a sequence of compatible contact and paracontact metric structures verifying nullity conditions. The behavior of that sequence, related to the Boeckx invariant $I_M$ and to the bi-Legendrian structure of $(M,ξ,ϕ,η,g)$, is then studied. Finally we are able to define a canonical Sasakian structure …
This paper is a complete study of almost α-paracosmplectic manifolds. We characterize almost α-paracosmplectic manifolds which have para Kaehler leaves. Main curvature identities which are fulfilled by any almost α-paracosmplectic manifold are found. We also proved that ξ is a harmonic vector field if and only if it is an eigen vector field of the Ricci operator. We locally classify three dimensional almost α-para-Kenmotsu manifolds satisfying a certain nullity condition. We show that this condition is invariant under D_{γ,β}-homothetic deformation. Furthermore, we construct examples of almost…
In this paper, we investigate geometric conditions for isometric immersions with positive index of relative nullity to be cylinders. There is an abundance of noncylindrical $n$-dimensional minimal submanifolds with index of relative nullity $n-2$, fully described by Dajczer and Florit \cite{DF2} in terms of a certain class of elliptic surfaces. Opposed to this, we prove that nonminimal $n$-dimensional submanifolds in space forms of any codimension are locally cylinders provided that they carry a totally geodesic distribution of rank $n-2\geq2,$ which is contained in the relative nullity distri…
We regard a contact metric manifold whose Reeb vector field belongs to the $(κ,μ)$-nullity distribution as a bi-Legendrian manifold and we study its canonical bi-Legendrian structure. Then we characterize contact metric $(κ,μ)$-spaces in terms of a canonical connection which can be naturally defined on them.
Ricci soliton contact metric manifolds with certain nullity conditions have recently been studied by Ghosh and Sharma. Whereas the gradient case is well-understood, they provided a list of candidates for the nongradient case. These candidates can be realized as Lie groups, but one only knows the structures of the underlying Lie algebras, which are hard to be analyzed apart from the three-dimensional case. In this paper, we study these Lie groups with dimension greater than three, and prove that the connected, simply-connected, and complete ones can be realized as homogeneous real hypersurfaces …
We study almost bi-paracontact structures on contact manifolds. We prove that if an almost bi-paracontact structure is defined on a contact manifold $(M,η)$, then under some natural assumptions of integrability, $M$ carries two transverse bi-Legendrian structures. Conversely, if two transverse bi-Legendrian structures are defined on a contact manifold, then $M$ admits an almost bi-paracontact structure. We define a canonical connection on an almost bi-paracontact manifold and we study its curvature properties, which resemble those of the Obata connection of an anti-hypercomplex (or complex-pro…
In this paper, we have studied the critical point equation (shortly, CPE) within the frame-work of Kenmotsu and almost Kenmotsu manifold satisfying certain nullity conditions. First, we prove that a complete Kenmotsu metric satisfies the CPE is Einstein and locally isometric to the hyperbolic space H2n+1. In case of Kenmotsu manifolds, it is possible to determine the potential function explicitly (locally). We also provide some examples of Kenmotsu and almost Kenmotsu manifolds that satisfies the CPE.
In this study, we investigate generalized quasi-Einstein structure for normal metric contact pair manifolds. Firstly, we deal with elementary properties and examine, existence, and characterizations of generalized quasi-Einstein normal metric contact pair manifold. Secondly, the generalized quasi-constant curvature of normal metric contact pair manifolds are studied and it is proven that a normal metric contact pair manifold with generalized quasi-constant curvature is a generalized quasi-Einstein manifold. Normal metric contact pair manifolds satisfying cyclic Ricci tensor and the Codazzi typ…
We consider a pair of smooth manifolds, which are the counterparts in the even-dimensional and odd-dimensional cases. They are separately an almost complex manifold with Norden metric and an almost contact manifolds with B-metric, respectively. They can be combined as the so-called almost contact complex Riemannian manifold. This paper is a survey with additions of results on differential geometry of canonical-type connections (i.e. metric connections with torsion satisfying a certain algebraic identity) on the considered manifolds.
On 5-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds, the form of any Kähler-type tensor (i.e. a tensor satisfying the properties of the curvature tensor of the Levi-Civita connection in the special class of the parallel structures on the manifold) is determined. The associated 1-forms are derived by the scalar curvatures of the Kähler-type tensor for the canonical connection on the manifolds from the main classes with closed 1-forms.
In this paper, $N(κ)$-contact metric manifolds satisfying the conditions $\widetilde{C}(ξ,X)\cdot\widetilde{C}=0$, $\widetilde{C}(ξ,X)\cdot R=0$, $\widetilde{C}(ξ,X)\cdot S=0$, $\widetilde{C}(ξ,X)\cdot C=0$, $C\cdot S=0$ and $R\cdot C=f_{C}Q(g,C)$ have been investigated and obtained their classification. Among others it is shown that a Weyl-pseudosymmetric $N(κ)$-contact metric manifold is either locally isometric to the Riemannian product $E^{n+1}(0)\times S^{n}(4)$ or an $η$-Einstein manifold. Finally, an example is given.
We investigate the Fefferman spaces of conformal type which are induced, via parabolic geometry, by the quaternionic contact (qc) manifolds introduced by O.Biquard. Equivalent characterizations of these spaces are proved: as conformal manifolds with symplectic conformal holonomy of the appropriate signature; as pseudo-Riemannian manifolds admitting conformal Killing fields satisfying a conformally invariant system of conditions analog to G. Sparling's criteria; and as the total space of a SO(3)- or $S^3$-bundle over a qc manifold with the conformally equivalent metrics defined directly by Biqu…
A complex contact structure $γ$ is defined by a system of holomorphic local $1$-forms satisfying the completely non-integrability condition. The contact structure induces a subbundle ${\rm Ker}\, γ$ of the tangent bundle and a line bundle $L$. In this paper, we prove that the sheaf of holomorphic $k$-vectors on a complex contact manifold splits into the sum of $\mathcal{O}(\bigwedge^{k}{\rm Ker}\, γ)$ and $\mathcal{O}(L\otimes \bigwedge^{k-1} {\rm Ker}\, γ)$ as sheaves of {\it $\mathbb{C}$-module}. The theorem induces the short exact sequence of cohomology of holomorphic $k$-vectors, and we ob…
Natural metric structures on tangent bundles and tangent sphere bundles enclose many important problems, from the topology of the base to the determination of their holonomy. We make here a brief study of the topic. We find the characteristic classes of some of those structures. We solve the question of when two given tangent sphere bundles S_rM of a Riemannian manifold M,g are homothetic, assuming different variable radius functions r and weighted metrics induced only by the conformal class of g. We determine their Riemannian, Ricci, scalar and mean curvatures in some cases. We find a family …
We show that a connection with skew-symmetric torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition exists on an almost contact metric manifold exactly when it is D-homothetic to a cosymplectic manifold. In dimension five, we get that the existence of a connection with skew torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition is equivalent to the existence of a Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold and vice versa, any Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold generates a two parametric family of connections with skew torsion satisfying the Einstein metricity condition. Formulas for the curvature and the Ricci tensors of t…
We describe 4th order ODEs satisfying two contact invariant conditions of Bryant in terms of the Ricci tensor of a certain gl(2,R) valued connection. We also provide nonhomogeneous examples of such ODEs.
We study the geometric properties of the base manifold for the unit tangent bundle satisfying the $η$-Einstein condition with the standard contact metric structure. One of the main theorems is that the unit tangent bundle of 4-dimensional Einstein manifold, equipped with the canonical contact metric structure, is $η$-Einstein manifold if and only if base manifold is the space of constant sectional curvature 1 or 2.
We construct using Lefschetz fibrations a large family of contact manifolds with the following properties: Any bounding contact embedding into an exact symplectic manifold satisfying a mild topological assumption is non-displaceable and generically has infinitely many leaf-wise intersection points. Moreover, any Stein filling has infinite dimensional symplectic homology.
First, we show that a warped product of a line and a fiber manifold is weakly conformally flat and quasi Einstein if and only if the fiber is Einstein. Next, we characterize and classify contact (in particular, $K$-contact) Riemannian manifold satisfying weakly (and doubly weakly) conformally flat and quasi-Einstein ($η$-Einstein) conditions. Finally, we provide local classification and characterization of a semi-Riemannian (including the 4-dimensional spacetime) with harmonic Weyl tensor and a non-homothetic conformal (including closed) vector field, in terms of Petrov types and Bach tensor.
We introduce the notion of abelian almost contact structures on an odd dimensional real Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$. This a sufficient condition for the structure to be normal. We investigate correspondences with even dimensional real Lie algebras endowed with an abelian complex structure, and with Kähler Lie algebras when $\mathfrak g$ carries a compatible inner product. The classification of 5-dimensional Sasakian Lie algebras with abelian structure is obtained. Later, we introduce and study abelian almost 3-contact structures on real Lie algebras of dimension $4n+3$. These are given by triple…
We investigate quaternionic contact (qc) manifolds from the point of view of intrinsic torsion. We argue that the natural structure group for this geometry is a non-compact Lie group K containing Sp(n)H^*, and show that any qc structure gives rise to a canonical K-structure with constant intrinsic torsion, except in seven dimensions, when this condition is equivalent to integrability in the sense of Duchemin. We prove that the choice of a reduction to Sp(n)H^* (or equivalently, a complement of the qc distribution) yields a unique K-connection satisfying natural conditions on torsion and curvat…
On contact manifolds we describe a notion of (contact) finite-type for linear partial differential operators satisfying a natural condition on their leading terms. A large class of linear differential operators are of finite-type in this sense, and for any such operator we construct a partial connection on a (finite rank) vector bundle with the property that sections in the null space of the operator correspond bijectively, and via an explicit map, with sections parallel for the partial connection. It follows that the solution space is finite dimensional and bounded by the corank of the holono…
A Reeb vector field satisfies the Kupka-Smale condition when all its closed orbits are non-degenerate, and the stable and unstable manifolds of its hyperbolic closed orbits intersect transversely. We show that, on a closed 3-manifold, any Reeb vector field satisfying the Kupka-Smale condition admits a Birkhoff section. In particular, this implies that the Reeb vector field of a $C^\infty$-generic contact form on a closed 3-manifold admits a Birkhoff section, and that the geodesic vector field of a $C^\infty$-generic Riemannian metric on a closed surface admits a Birkhoff section.
We introduce a canonical affine connection on the contact manifold $(Q,ξ)$, which is associated to each contact triad $(Q,λ,J)$ where $λ$ is a contact form and $J:ξ\to ξ$ is an endomorphism with $J^2 = -id$ compatible to $dλ$. We call it the \emph{contact triad connection} of $(Q,λ,J)$ and prove its existence and uniqueness. The connection is canonical in that the pull-back connection $ϕ^*\nabla$ of a triad connection $\nabla$ becomes the triad connection of the pull-back triad $(Q, ϕ^*λ, ϕ^*J)$ for any diffeomorphism $ϕ:Q \to Q$ satisfying $ϕ^*λ= λ$ (sometimes called a strict contact diffeomo…
A long-standing conjecture in Hamiltonian Dynamics states that the Reeb flow of any convex hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ carries an elliptic closed orbit. Two important contributions toward its proof were given by Ekeland in 1986 and Dell'Antonio-D'Onofrio-Ekeland in 1995 proving this for convex hypersurfaces satisfying suitable pinching conditions and for antipodal invariant convex hypersurfaces respectively. In this work we present a generalization of these results using contact homology and a notion of dynamical convexity first introduced by Hofer-Wysocki-Zehnder for tight contact forms…
We prove that every non-degenerate Reeb flow on a closed contact manifold $M$ admitting a strong symplectic filling $W$ with vanishing first Chern class carries at least two geometrically distinct closed orbits provided that the positive equivariant symplectic homology of $W$ satisfies a mild condition. Under further assumptions, we establish the existence of two geometrically distinct closed orbits on any contact finite quotient of $M$. Several examples of such contact manifolds are provided, like displaceable ones, unit cosphere bundles, prequantization circle bundles, Brieskorn spheres and …
Connections with (skew-symmetric) torsion on non-symmetric Riemannian manifold satisfying the Einstein metricity condition (NGT with torsion) are considered. It is shown that an almost Hermitian manifold is an NGT with torsion if and only if it is a Nearly Kähler manifold. In the case of an almost contact metric manifold the NGT with torsion spaces are characterized and a possibly new class of almost contact metric manifolds is extracted. Similar considerations lead to a definition of a particular classes of almost para-Hermitian and almost paracontact metric manifolds. The conditions are give…
In this paper, we prove that there are no proper $CRS$ bi-warped product submanifolds other than contact CR-biwarped products in Sasakian manifolds. On the other hand, we prove that if $M$ is a $CRS$ bi-warped product of the form $M=N_T \times_{f_1}N^{n_{1}}_\perp\times_{f_2} N^{n_{2}}_θ$ in a cosymplectic manifold $\widetilde M$, then its second fundamental form $h$ satisfies the inequality: $$\|h\|^2\geq 2n_1\|\nabla(\ln f_1)\|^2+2n_2(1+2\cot^2θ)\|\nabla(\ln f_2)\|^2,$$ where $N_T,\, N^{n_{1}}_\perp$ and $N^{n_{2}}_θ$ are invariant, anti-invariant and proper pointwise slant submanifolds of $…
