For stochastic $C_0$-semigroups on $L^1$-spaces there is wealth of results that show strong convergence to an equilibrium as $t \to \infty$, given that the semigroup contains a partial integral operator. This has plenty of applications to transport equations and in mathematical biology. However, up to now partial integral operators do not play a prominent role in theorems which yield uniform convergence of the semigroup rather than only strong convergence.
In this article we prove that, for irreducible stochastic semigroups, uniform convergence to an equilibrium is actually equivalent to being partially integral and uniformly mean ergodic. In addition to this Tauberian theorem, we also show that our semigroup is uniformly convergent if and only if it is partially integral and the dual semigroup satisfies a certain irreducibility condition. Our proof is based on a uniform version of a lower bound theorem of Lasota and Yorke, which we combine with various techniques from Banach lattice theory.
In this paper we study continuous semigroups of positive operators on general vector lattices equipped with the relative uniform topology $τ_{ru}$. We introduce the notions of strong continuity with respect to $τ_{ru}$ and relative uniform continuity for semigroups. These notions allow us to study semigroups on non-locally convex spaces such as $L^p(\mathbb{R})$ for $0<p<1$ and non-complete spaces such as $Lip(\mathbb{R})$, $UC(\mathbb{R})$, and $C_c(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the (left) translation semigroup on the real line, the heat semigroup and some Koopman semigroups are relatively unifo…
We present new conditions for semigroups of positive operators to converge strongly as time tends to infinity. Our proofs are based on a novel approach combining the well-known splitting theorem by Jacobs, de Leeuw and Glicksberg with a purely algebraic result about positive group representations. Thus we obtain convergence theorems not only for one-parameter semigroups but for a much larger class of semigroup representations. Our results allow for a unified treatment of various theorems from the literature that, under technical assumptions, a bounded positive $C_0$-semigroup containing or dom…
For an increasing sequence $(T_n)$ of one-parameter semigroups of sub Markovian kernel operators over a Polish space, we study the limit semigroup and prove sufficient conditions for it to be strongly Feller. In particular, we show that the strong Feller property carries over from the approximating semigroups to the limit semigroup if the resolvent of the latter maps the constant 1 function to a continuous function. This is instrumental in the study of elliptic operators on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with unbounded coefficients: our abstract result enables us to assign a semigroup to such an operator and …
We extend the Barles-Perthame procedure of semi-relaxed limits of viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations of the type f - lambda H f = h. The convergence result allows for equations on a `converging sequence of spaces' as well as Hamilton-equations written in terms of two equations in terms of operators H_\dagger and H_\dagger that serve as natural upper and lower bounds for the `true' operator H. In the process, we establish a strong relation between non-linear pseudo-resolvents and viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations. As a consequence we derive a convergence result for …
Chernoff approximations to strongly continuous one-parameter semigroups give solutions to a wide class of differential equations. This paper studies the rate of convergence of the Chernoff approximations. We provide simple natural examples for which the convergence is arbitrary fast, is arbitrary slow, and holds in the strong operator topology but does not hold in the norm operator topology. We also prove a general theorem that gives an upper estimate for the speed of decay of the norm of the residual term of the Chernoff approximations. The result is applied to one-dimensional parabolic diffe…
We provide simple and constructive proofs of Harris-type theorems on the existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium and the speed of equilibration of discrete-time and continuous-time stochastic semigroups. Our results apply both to cases where the relaxation speed is exponential (also called geometric) and to those with no spectral gap, with non-exponential speeds (also called subgeometric). We give constructive estimates in the subgeometric case and discrete-time statements which seem both to be new. The method of proof also differs from previous works, based on semigroup and interpolation a…
It is shown that for a certain class of the Kato functions the Trotter-Kato product formulae converge in Dixmier ideal C 1,$\infty$ in topology, which is defined by the $\times$ 1,$\infty$-norm. Moreover, the rate of convergence in this topology inherits the error-bound estimate for the corresponding operator-norm convergence. 1 since [24], [14]. Note that a subtle point of this program is the question about the rate of convergence in the corresponding topology. Since the limit of the Trotter-Kato product formula is a strongly continuous semigroup, for the von Neumann-Schatten ideals this topo…
Let $\{T(t)\}_{t\geq 0}$ be a $C_0$-semigroup of bounded linear operators on the Banach space ${X}$ into itself and let $A$ be their infinitesimal generator. In this paper, we show that if $T(t)$ is uniformly ergodic, then $A$ does not have the single valued extension property, which implies that $A$ must have a nonempty interior of the point spectrum. Furthermore, we introduce the local mean ergodic for $C_0$-semigroup $T(t)$ at a vector $x\in X$ and we establish some conditions implying that $T(t)$ is a local mean ergodic at $x$.
We present a form convergence theorem for sequences of sectorial forms and their associated semigroups in a complex Hilbert space. Roughly speaking, the approximating forms $a_n$ are all `bounded below' by the limiting form $a$, but in contrast to the previous literature there is no monotonicity hypothesis on the sequence. Moreover, the forms are not supposed to be closed or densely defined. For a sectorial form one obtains an associated linear relation, whose negative generates a degenerate strongly continuous semigroup of linear operators. Our hypotheses on the sequence of forms imply strong…
Use of bundles of locally convex spaces in problems of convergence of semigroups of operators defined on different Banach spaces. Applications to spectral stability problems
The paper deals with the long-term behavior of positive operator semigroups on spaces of bounded functions and of signed measures, which have applications to parabolic equations with unbounded coefficients and to stochastic analysis. The main results are a Tauberian type theorem characterizing the convergence to equilibrium of strongly Feller semigroups and a generalization of a classical convergence theorem of Doob. None of these results requires any kind of time regularity of the semigroup.

In this note we prove a refined version of the Christensen-Evans theorem for generators of uniformly continuous GNS-symmetric quantum Markov semigroups. We use this result to show the existence of GNS-symmetric extensions of GNS-symmetric quantum Markov semigroups. In particular, this implies that the generators of GNS-symmetric quantum Markov semigroups on finite-dimensional von Neumann algebra can be written in the form specified by Alicki's theorem.
In this paper, we introduce formulations of the Trotter Kato theorem for approximation of bi continuous semigroups that provide a useful framework whenever convergence of numerical approximations to solutions of PDEs are studied with respect to an additional locally convex topology coarser than the norm topology to treat the lack of the strong continuity. Applicability of our results is demonstrated using a heat equation with infinite boundaries.
The notion of equivalence classes of generators of one-parameter semigroups based on the convergence of the Dyson expansion can be traced back to the seminal work of Hille and Phillips, who in Chapter XIII of the 1957 edition of their Functional Analysis monograph, developed the theory in minute detail. Following their approach of regarding the Dyson expansion as a central object, in the first part of this paper we examine a general framework for perturbation of generators relative to the Schatten-von Neumann ideals on Hilbert spaces. This allows us to develop a graded family of equivalence re…
