We explicitly demonstrate the relation between the 2-point t-channel torus block in the large-c regime and the geodesic length of a specific geodesic diagram stretched in the thermal AdS3 spacetime
We study four types of one-point torus blocks arising in the large central charge regime. According to different limits of conformal dimensions we distinguish between the global block, the light block, the heavy-light block, and the linearized classical block. We show that they are not independent and connected to each other by various links. We find that the global, light, and heavy-light blocks correspond to three different contractions of the Virasoro algebra. Also, we formulate the c-recursive representation of the one-point torus blocks which is relevant in the semiclassical approximation…
We propose the holographic interpretation of the 1-point conformal block on a torus in the semiclassical regime. To this end we consider the linearized version of the block and find its coefficients by means of the perturbation procedure around natural seed configuration corresponding to the zero-point block. From the AdS/CFT perspective the linearized block is given by the geodesic length of the tadpole graph embedded into the thermal AdS plus the holomorphic part of the thermal AdS action.
Recent work has demonstrated that black hole thermodynamics and information loss/restoration in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ can be derived almost entirely from the behavior of the Virasoro conformal blocks at large central charge, with relatively little dependence on the precise details of the CFT spectrum or OPE coefficients. Here, we elaborate on the non-perturbative behavior of Virasoro blocks by classifying all `saddles' that can contribute for arbitrary values of external and internal operator dimensions in the semiclassical large central charge limit. The leading saddles, which determine the naive s…
We study CFT2 conformal blocks on a torus and their holographic realization. The classical conformal blocks arising in the regime where conformal dimensions grow linearly with the large central charge are shown to be holographically dual to the geodesic networks stretched in the thermal AdS bulk space. We discuss the n-point conformal blocks and their duals, the 2-point case is elaborated in full detail. We develop various techniques to calculate both quantum and classical conformal block functions. In particular, we show that exponentiated global torus blocks reproduce classical torus blocks …
After deriving the classical Ward identity for the variation of the action under a change of the modulus of the torus we map the problem of the sphere with four sources to the torus. We extend the method previously developed for computing the classical conformal blocks for the sphere topology to the tours topology. We give the explicit results for the classical blocks up to the third order in the nome included and compare them with the classical limit of the quantum conformal blocks. The extension to higher orders is straightforward.
We give a holographic description of global conformal blocks in two dimensional conformal field theory on the sphere and on the torus. We show that the conformal blocks for one-point functions on the torus can be written as Witten diagrams in thermal AdS. This is accomplished by deriving a general conformal Casimir equation for global conformal blocks, and showing that Witten diagrams obey the same equation. We study the semi-classical limit of n-point conformal blocks, and show that these equal the action of a network of bulk world-lines obeying appropriate geodesic equations. We give an alte…
We consider the Wilson line networks of the Chern-Simons $3d$ gravity theory with toroidal boundary conditions which calculate global conformal blocks of degenerate quasi-primary operators in torus $2d$ CFT. After general discussion that summarizes and further extends results known in the literature we explicitly obtain the one-point torus block and two-point torus blocks through particular matrix elements of toroidal Wilson network operators in irreducible finite-dimensional representations of $sl(2,\mathbb{R})$ algebra. The resulting expressions are given in two alternative forms using diffe…
We consider the conformal block decomposition in arbitrary exchange channels of a two-dimensional conformal field theory on a torus. The channels are described by diagrams built of a closed loop with external legs (a necklace sub-diagram) and trivalent vertices forming trivalent trees attached to the necklace. Then, the $n$-point torus conformal block in any channel can be obtained by acting with a number of OPE operators on the $k$-point torus block in the necklace channel at $k=1,...,n$. Focusing on the necklace channel, we go to the large-$c$ regime, where the Virasoro algebra truncates to …
We chart the breakdown of semiclassical gravity by analyzing the Virasoro conformal blocks to high numerical precision, focusing on the heavy-light limit corresponding to a light probe propagating in a BTZ black hole background. In the Lorentzian regime, we find empirically that the initial exponential time-dependence of the blocks transitions to a universal $t^{-\frac{3}{2}}$ power-law decay. For the vacuum block the transition occurs at $t \approx \frac{πc}{6 h_L}$, confirming analytic predictions. In the Euclidean regime, due to Stokes phenomena the naive semiclassical approximation fails c…
We study large-c SCFT2 on a torus specializing to one-point superblocks in the N=1 Neveu-Schwarz sector. Considering different contractions of the Neveu-Schwarz superalgebra related to the large central charge limit we explicitly calculate three superblocks, osp(1|2) global, light, and heavy-light superblocks, and show that they are related to each other. We formulate the osp(1|2) superCasimir eigenvalue equations and identify their particular solutions as the global superblocks. It is shown that the resulting differential equations are the Heun equations. We study exponentiated global superbl…
We derive recursive representations in the internal weights of N-point Virasoro conformal blocks in the sphere linear channel and the torus necklace channel, and recursive representations in the central charge of arbitrary Virasoro conformal blocks on the sphere, the torus, and higher genus Riemann surfaces in the plumbing frame.
We study the multi-boundary entanglement structure of the state associated with the torus link complement $S^3 \backslash T_{p,q}$ in the set-up of three-dimensional SU(2)$_k$ Chern-Simons theory. The focal point of this work is the asymptotic behavior of the Rényi entropies, including the entanglement entropy, in the semiclassical limit of $k \to \infty$. We present a detailed analysis for several torus links and observe that the entropies converge to a finite value in the semiclassical limit. We further propose that the large $k$ limiting value of the Rényi entropy of torus links of type $T_…
Recursion relations for the sphere $4$-point and torus $1$-point ${\cal W}_3$ conformal blocks, generalizing Alexei Zamolodchikov's famous relation for the Virasoro conformal blocks are proposed. One of these relations is valid for any 4-point conformal block with two arbitrary and two special primaries with charge parameters proportional to the highest weight of the fundamental irrep of $SU(3)$. The other relation is designed for the torus conformal block with a special (in above mentioned sense) primary field insertion. AGT relation maps the sphere conformal block and the torus block to the …
Two dimensional field theories invariant under the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) group are conjectured to be dual to asymptotically flat spacetimes in three dimensions. In this paper, we continue our investigations of the modular properties of these field theories. In particular, we focus on the BMS torus one-point function. We use two different methods to arrive at expressions for asymptotic structure constants for general states in the theory utilising modular properties of the torus one-point function. We then concentrate on the BMS highest weight representation, and derive a host of new result…
This thesis is divided into two parts, where in the first part we investigate the computation of Virasoro 1-point blocks on the torus in the framework of Zamolodchikov's recursion relation. It is widely accepted that this recursion relation contains unphysical poles in the central charge $c$. At each order we conjecture how the pole free expressions depend on the internal and external conformal dimensions and central charge, and propose how to compute it numerically. In this thesis, we have calculated the pole free expression up to order 4. In the second part we introduce a conformal field the…

We consider Virasoro conformal blocks in the large central charge limit. There are different regimes depending on the behavior of the conformal dimensions. The most simple regime is reduced to the global sl(2, C) conformal blocks while the most complicated one is known as the classical conformal blocks. Recently, Fitzpatrick, Kaplan, and Walters showed that the two regimes are related through the intermediate stage of the so-called heavy-light semiclassical limit. We study this idea in the particular case of the 5-point conformal block. To find the 5-point global block we use the projector tec…
We analyse Virasoro conformal blocks in the regime of heavy intermediate exchange $(h_p \rightarrow \infty)$. For the 1-point block on the torus and the 4-point block on the sphere, we show that each order in the large-$h_p$ expansion can be written in closed form as polynomials in the Eisenstein series. The appearance of this structure is explained using the fusion kernel and, more markedly, by invoking the modular anomaly equations via the 2d/4d correspondence. We observe that the existence of these constraints allows us to develop a faster algorithm to recursively construct the blocks in th…
