It was proved in Chen's paper \cite{chen} that every real hypersurface in the complex projective plane of constant holomorphic sectional curvature $4$ satisfies $$ δ(2)\leq \frac{9}{4}H^2+5,$$ where $H$ is the mean curvature and $δ(2)$ is a $δ$-invariant introduced by him. In this paper, we study non-Hopf real hypersurfaces satisfying the equality case of the inequality under the condition that the mean curvature is constant along each integral curve of the Reeb vector field. We describe how to obtain all such hypersurfaces.
We investigate real hypersurfaces in complex space forms attaining equality in an inequality involving the contact $δ$-invariant $δ^c(2)$ introduced by Chen and Mihai in [3].
We determine non-Hopf hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in the complex projective plane which attain equality in a basic inequality between the maximum Ricci curvature and the squared mean curvature.
We study Lorentz hypersurfaces $M_{1}^{n}$ in $E_{1}^{n+1}$ satisfying $\triangle \vec {H}= α\vec {H}$ with non diagonal shape operator, having complex eigenvalues. We prove that every such Lorentz hypersurface in $E_{1}^{n+1}$ having at most five distinct principal curvatures has constant mean curvature.
Using the Blaschke-Berwald metric and the affine shape operator of a hypersurface M in the (n+1)-dimensional real affine space we can define some generalized curvature tensor named the Opozda-Verstraelen affine curvature tensor. In this paper we determine curvature conditions of pseudosymmetry type expressed by this tensor for locally strongly convex hypersurfaces M, n>2, with two distinct affine principal curvatures or with three distinct affine principal curvatures assuming that at least one affine principal curvature has multiplicity 1.
The difference tensor C.R - R.C of Einstein manifolds, some quasi-Einstein manifolds and Roter type manifolds, of dimension n > 3, satisfy the following curvature condition: (A) C.R - R.C = Q(S,C) - (k /(n-1)) Q(g,C). We investigate hypersurfaces M in space forms N satisfying (A). The main result states that if the tensor C.R - R.C of a non-quasi-Einstein hypersurface M in N is a linear combination of the tensors Q(g,C) and Q(S,C) then (A) holds on M. In the case when M is a quasi-Einstein hypersurface in N and some additional assumptions are satisfied then (A) also holds on M.
We prove the equality case of the Penrose inequality in all dimensions for asymptotically flat hypersurfaces. It was recently proven by G. Lam that the Penrose inequality holds for asymptotically flat graphical hypersurfaces in Euclidean space with non-negative scalar curvature and with a minimal boundary. Our main theorem states that if the equality holds, then the hypersurface is a Schwarzschild solution. As part of our proof, we show that asymptotically flat graphical hypersurfaces with a minimal boundary and non-negative scalar curvature must be mean convex, using the argument that we deve…
We establish an inequality among the Ricci curvature, the squared mean curvature, and the normal curvature for real hypersurfaces in complex space forms. We classify real hypersurfaces in two-dimensional non-flat complex space forms which admit a unit vector field satisfying identically the equality case of the inequality.
It was proved in [8,9] that every Lagrangian submanifold $M$ of a complex space form $\tilde M^{5}(4c)$ of constant holomorphic sectional curvature $4c$ satisfies the following optimal inequality: {align}\tag{A}δ(2,2)\leq \text{\small${25}{4}$} H^{2}+8c,{align} where $H^{2}$ is the squared mean curvature and $δ(2,2)$ is a $δ$-invariant on $M$ introduced by the first author. This optimal inequality improves a special case of an earlier inequality obtained in [B.-Y. Chen, Japan. J. Math. 26 (2000), 105-127]. The main purpose of this paper is to classify Lagrangian submanifolds of $\tilde M^{5}(4…
We study hypersurfaces either in the sphere \s{n+1} or in the hyperbolic space \h{n+1} whose position vector $x$ satisfies the condition $L_kx=Ax+b$, where $L_k$ is the linearized operator of the $(k+1)$-th mean curvature of the hypersurface for a fixed $k=0,...,n-1$, $A\in\R{(n+2)\times (n+2)}$ is a constant matrix and $b\in\R{n+2}$ is a constant vector. For every $k$, we prove that when $A$ is self-adjoint and $b=0$, the only hypersurfaces satisfying that condition are hypersurfaces with zero $(k+1)$-th mean curvature and constant $k$-th mean curvature, and open pieces of standard Riemannian…
In this paper, we show that the catenoids and the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces are the only complete minimal hypersurfaces satisfying the Simons' equation (3.9) in the space forms.
This paper presents two results conserning real hypersurfaces in CP^{2} and CH^{2}. More precisely, it is proved that real hypersurfaces equipped with structure Jacobi operator satisfying condition $\mathcal{L}_{X}l=\nabla_{X}l$, where \emph{X} is a vector field orthogonal to structure vector field $ξ$, do not exist. Additional real hypersurfaces equipped with shape operator \emph{A} satisfying relation $\mathcal{L}_{X}A=\nabla_{X}A$, where \emph{X} is a vector field orthogonal to $ξ$, do not exist.
In this paper, we prove that a noncompact complete hypersurface with finite weighted volume, weighted mean curvature vector bounded in norm, and isometrically immersed in a complete weighted manifold is proper. In addition, we obtain an estimate for $f$-stability index of a constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with finite weighted volume and isometrically immersed in a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton that admits at least one parallel field globally defined. For such hypersurface, we still give a necessary condition for equality to be achieved in the estimate obtained.
We study hypersurfaces either in the De Sitter space $§_1^{n+1}\subset\R_1^{n+2}$ or in the anti De Sitter space $\H_1^{n+1}\subset\R_2^{n+2}$ whose position vector $ψ$ satisfies the condition $L_kψ=Aψ+b$, where $L_k$ is the linearized operator of the $(k+1)$-th mean curvature of the hypersurface, for a fixed $k=0,...,n-1$, $A$ is an $(n+2)\times(n+2)$ constant matrix and $b$ is a constant vector in the corresponding pseudo-Euclidean space. For every $k$, we prove that when $A$ is self-adjoint and $b=0$, the only hypersurfaces satisfying that condition are hypersurfaces with zero $(k+1)$-th me…
We show that a given $x:M^n\to \bar{M}^{n+1}=I\times_ϕF^{n}$ closed spacelike hypersurface with constant mean curvature $H$ and warping function $ϕ$ satisfying ϕ''\geq \ma\{Hϕ'',0\}$ is either minimal or a spacelike slice $\{t_{o}\}\times F$ for some $t_{o}\in I$.
In this paper we prove some classification theorems of real hypersur- faces in Mn(c) satisfying certain conditions on the covariant derivative of the structure Jacobi operator. We also prove the non-existence of real hypersurfaces with Codazzi type structure Jacobi operator in Mn(c).
In this article, we will use inverse mean curvature flow to establish an optimal Sobolev-type inequality for hypersurfaces $Σ$ with nonnegative sectional curvature in $\mathbb{H}^n$. As an application, we prove the hyperbolic Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for hypersurfaces with nonnegative sectional curvature in $\mathbb{H}^n$: \begin{align*} \int_Σ p_{2k}\geq ω_{n-1}\left[\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}}\right)^\frac{1}{k}+\left(\frac{|Σ|}{ω_{n-1}}\right)^{\frac{1}{k}\frac{n-1-2k}{n-1}}\right]^k, \end{align*} where $p_i$ is the normalized $i$-th mean curvature. Equality holds if and only if $Σ$ is…
We study constant mean curvature spacelike hypersurfaces and in particular maximal hypersurfaces immersed in pp-wave spacetimes satisfying the timelike convergence condition. We prove the non-existence of compact spacelike hypersurfaces whose constant mean curvature is non-zero and also that every compact maximal hypersurface is totally geodesic. Moreover, we give an extension of the classical Calabi-Bernstein theorem to this class of pp-wave spacetimes.
We consider the problem of deforming a one-parameter family of hypersurfaces immersed into closed Riemannian manifolds with positive curvature operator. The hypersurface in this family satisfies mean curvature flow while the ambient metric satisfying the normalized Ricci flow. We prove that if the initial metric of the background manifold is sufficiently pinched and the initial hypersurface also satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then either the hypersurfaces shrink to a round point in finite time or converge to a totally geodesic sphere as the time tends to infinity.
We introduce fourth fundamental form $IV,$ and $i$-th curvature formulas of hypersurfaces in the four dimensional Euclidean geometry ${\mathbb{E}}^{4}$. Defining fourth fundamental form and $i$-th curvatures for hypersurfaces, we calculate them on rotational hypersurface. In addition we study rotational hypersurface satisfying $Δ^{IV}\mathbf{x=Ax}$ for some $4\times 4$ matrix $\mathbf{A.}$
In this note we characterize compact hypersurfaces of dimension $n\geq 2$ with constant mean curvature $H$ immersed in space forms of constant curvature and satisfying an optimal integral pinching condition: they are either totally umbilical or, when $n\geq 3$ and $H\neq 0$, they are locally contained in a rotational hypersurface. In dimension two, the integral pinching condition reduces to a topological assumption and we recover the classical Hopf-Chern result.
We prove that every Kaehler metric, whose potential is a function of the time-like distance in the flat Kaehler-Lorentz space, is of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures, satisfying certain conditions. This gives a local classification of the Kaehler manifolds with the above mentioned metrics. New examples of Sasakian space forms are obtained as real hypersurfaces of a Kaehler space form with special invariant distribution. We introduce three types of even dimensional rotational hypersurfaces in flat spaces and endow them with locally conformal Kaehler structures. We prove that thes…
In this paper we prove Hessian and Laplacian comparison theorems for the Lorentzian distance function in a spacetime with sectional (or Ricci) curvature bounded by a certain function by means of a comparison criterion for Riccati equations. Using these results, under suitable conditions, we are able to obtain some estimates on the higher order mean curvatures of spacelike hypersurfaces satisfying a Omori-Yau maximum principle for certain elliptic operators.
In this paper, we extend the notion of affine translation surfaces introduced by Liu and Yu (Proc. Japan Acad. Ser. A Math. Sci. 89, 111--113, 2013) in a Euclidean space R^{3} to higher dimensional ambient spaces. We provide that an affine translation hypersurface of constant Gauss-Kronocker curvature K_{0} in R^{n+1} is a cylinder, i.e. K_{0}=0. As further applications we describe such hypersurfaces in the isotropic spaces satisfying certain conditions on the isotropic curvatures and the Laplacian.
It has been proved that there are no real hypersurfaces satisfying RA = 0 in non-flat complex space forms. In this paper we prove that the same is true in the case of CR submanifolds of maximal CR dimension, that is there are no CR submanifolds of maximal CR dimension satisfying RA = 0 in non-flat complex space forms.
We show that compact embedded starshaped $r$-convex hypersurfaces of certain warped products satisfying $H_r=aH+b$ with $a\geqslant 0$, $b>0$, where $H$ and $H_r$ are respectively the mean curvature and $r$-th mean curvature is a slice. In the case of space forms, we show that without the assumption of starshapedness, such Weingarten hypersurfaces are geodesic spheres. Finally, we prove that, in the case of space forms, if $Hr-aH-b$ is close to $0$ then the hypersurface is close to geodesic sphere for the Hausdorff distance. We also prove an anisotropic version of this stability result in the …
A possible evolution of a compact hypersurface in R^n by mean curvature past singularities is defined via the level set flow. In the case that the initial hypersurface has positive mean curvature, we show that the Brakke flow associated to the level set flow is actually a Brakke flow with equality. We obtain as a consequence that no mass drop can occur along such a flow. As a further application of the techniques used above we give a new variational formulation for mean curvature flow of mean convex hypersurfaces.
Given a positive function F on S n satisfying an appropriate con-vexity assumption, we consider hypersurfaces for which a linear combination of some higher order anisotropic curvatures is constant. We define the varia-tional problem for which these hypersurfaces are critical points and we prove that, up to translations and homotheties, the Wulff shape is the only stable closed hypersurface of the Euclidean space for this problem.
Using generalized Tanaka-Webster connection, we considered a real hypersurface $M$ in a complex two-plane Grassmannian $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$ when the GTW Reeb Lie derivative of the structure Jacobi operator coincides with the Reeb Lie derivative. Next using the method of simultaneous diagonalization, we prove a complete classification for a real hypersurface in $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$ satisfying such a condition. In this case, we have proved that $M$ is an open part of a tube around a totally geodesic $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+1})$ in $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$.
In this paper, we study the Dirichlet problem for $p$-convex hypersurfaces with prescribed curvature. We prove that there exists a graphic hypersurface satisfying the prescribed curvature equation with homogeneous boundary condition. An interior curvature estimate is also obtained.
It is shown that moduli spaces of complete families of compact complex hypersurfaces in complex manifolds often come equipped canonically with projective structures satisfying some natural integrability conditions.
We provide a new proof of the equality case of the spacetime positive mass theorem, which states that if a complete asymptotically flat initial data set $(M, g, k)$ satisfying the dominant energy condition has null ADM energy-momentum (that is, $|E|=|P|$), then $(M,g)$ must isometrically embed into Minkowski space with $k$ as its second fundamental form. Previous proofs either used spinor methods [Wit 81, BC96, CM06], relied on the Jang equation [HL20, Eic13], or assumed three spatial dimensions [HZ22]. In contrast, our new proof only requires knowing that $E\ge|P|$ for all complete initial da…
Let $M$ be a Hadamard manifold with curvature bounded above by a negative constant $-α$, satisfying the "strict convexity condition", and assume that $M$ admits a "helicoidal" one-parameter subgroup $G$ of isometries of $M$. Then, given a compact topological $G-$shaped hypersurface $Γ$ in the asymptotic boundary of $M,$ and $|H|<\sqrtα$, we prove the existence of a complete properly embedded hypersurface whose mean curvature is equal to $H$ and whose asymptotic boundary is $Γ$. We are able, this way, to extend a previous theorem of B.Guan and J.Spruck on the hyperbolic space to any rank 1 symm…
This is a revised version (minor changes and a deeper insight in the positive curvature case). We prove some Caccioppoli's inequalities for the traceless part of the second fundamental form of a complete, noncompact, finite index, constant mean curvature hypersurface of a Riemannian manifold, satisfying some curvature conditions. This allows us to unify and clarify many results scattered in the literature and to obtain some new results. For example, we prove that there is no stable, complete, noncompact hypersurface in ${\mathbb R}^{n+1},$ $n\leq 5,$ with constant mean curvature $H\not=0,$ pro…
We study mean curvature flow in $\mathbb S_K^{n+1}$, the round sphere of sectional curvature $K>0$, under the quadratic curvature pinching condition $|A|^{2} < \frac{1}{n-2} H^{2} + 4 K$ when $n\ge 4$ and $|A|^{2} < \frac{3}{5}H^{2}+\frac{8}{3}K$ when $n=3$. This condition is related to a famous theorem of Simons, which states that the only minimal hypersurfaces satisfying $\vert A\vert^2<nK$ are the totally geodesic hyperspheres. It is related to but distinct from two-convexity. Notably, in contrast to two-convexity, it allows the mean curvature to change sign. We show that the pinching condi…
A marginally outer trapped hypersurface is a generalization of minimal hypersurfaces originated from general relativity. We show a curvature estimate for stable marginally outer trapped hypersurfaces up to the free boundary satisfying a uniform area bound. Our proof is based on an iteration argument. The curvature estimate was previously known via a blowup argument for stable minimal hypersurfaces.
We study the geometry of stable maximal hypersurfaces in a variety of spacetimes satisfying various physically relevant curvature assumptions, for instance the Timelike Convergence Condition (TCC). We characterize stability when the target space has constant sectional curvature as well as give sufficient conditions on the geometry of the ambient spacetime (e.g., the validity of TCC) to ensure stability. Some rigidity results and height estimates are also proven in GRW spacetimes. In the last part of the paper we consider $k$-stability of spacelike hypersurfaces, a concept related to mean curva…
In [7], Guan, Ren and Wang obtained a $C^2$ a priori estimate for admissible 2-convex hypersurfaces satisfying the Weingarten curvature equation $σ_2(κ(X))=f(X, ν(X)).$ In this note, we give a simpler proof of this result, and extend it to space forms.
In this paper, I study the isoparametric hypersurfaces in a Randers sphere $(S^n,F)$ of constant flag curvature, with the navigation datum $(h,W)$. I prove that an isoparametric hypersurface $M$ for the standard round sphere $(S^n,h)$ which is tangent to $W$ remains isoparametric for $(S^n,F)$ after the navigation process. This observation provides a special class of isoparametric hypersurfaces in $(S^n,F)$, which can be equivalently described as the regular level sets of isoparametric functions $f$ satisfying $-f$ is transnormal. I provide a classification for these special isoparametric hype…
We show that for a very general and natural class of curvature functions (for example the curvature quotients $(σ_n/σ_l)^{\frac{1}{n-l}}$) the problem of finding a complete spacelike strictly convex hypersurface in de Sitter space satisfying $f(κ) = σ\in (1,\infty)$ with a prescribed compact future asymptotic boundary $Γ$ at infinity has at least one smooth solution (if l = 1 or l = 2 there is uniqueness). This is the exact analogue of the asymptotic plateau problem in Hyperbolic space and is in fact a precise dual problem. By using this duality we obtain for free the existence of strictly con…

We consider a one-parameter family of closed, embedded hypersurfaces moving with normal velocity $G_κ= \big ( \sum_{i < j} \frac{1}{λ_i+λ_j-2κ} \big )^{-1}$, where $λ_1 \leq \hdots \leq λ_n$ denote the curvature eigenvalues and $κ$ is a nonnegative constant. This defines a fully nonlinear parabolic equation, provided that $λ_1+λ_2>2κ$. In contrast to mean curvature flow, this flow preserves the condition $λ_1+λ_2>2κ$ in a general ambient manifold. Our main goal in this paper is to extend the surgery algorithm of Huisken-Sinestrari to this fully nonlinear flow. This is the first construction of…
In this paper we consider complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds $(M, g)$ with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth, of dimension $n \geq 3$. We prove a sharp Willmore-type inequality for closed hypersurfaces $\partial Ω$ in $M$, with equality holding true if and only if $(M{\setminus}Ω, g)$ is isometric to a truncated cone over $\partialΩ$. An optimal version of Huisken's Isoperimetric Inequality for $3$-manifolds is obtained using this result. Finally, exploiting a natural extension of our techniques to the case of parabolic manifolds, we also deduce an enhanced version …
