We show that relations in Homflypt type skein theory of an oriented $3$-manifold $M$ are induced from a $2$-groupoid defined from the fundamental $2$-groupoid of a space of singular links in $M$. The module relations are defined by homomorphisms related to string topology. They appear from a representation of the groupoid into free modules on a set of model objects. The construction on the fundamental $2$-groupoid is defined by the singularity stratification and relates Vassiliev and skein theory. Several explicit properties are discussed, and some implications for skein modules are derived.
If M is an oriented 3-manifold, let S(M) denote the Homflypt skein module of M. We show that S(M_1 connect sum M_2) is isomorphic to S(M_1) tensor S(M_2) modulo torsion. In fact, we show that S(M_1 connect sum M_2) is isomorphic to S(M_1) tensot S(M_2) if we are working over a certain localized ring. We show the similar result holds for relative skein modules. If M contains a separating 2-sphere, we give conditions under which certain relative skein modules of M vanish over specified localized rings.
This paper is a presentation, where we compute the HOMFLYPT Skein module of singular links in the 3-sphere. This calculation is based on some results previously proved by Rabenda and the author on Markov traces on singular Hecke algebras, as well as on classical techniques that allow to pass from the framework of Markov traces on Hecke algebras to the framework of HOMFLYPT Skein modules. Some open problems on singular Hecke algebras are also presented.
Let $k$ be a subring of the field of rational functions in $x, v, s$ which contains $x^{\pm 1}, v^{\pm 1}, s^{\pm 1}$. If $M$ is an oriented 3-manifold, let $S(M)$ denote the Homflypt skein module of $M$ over $k$. This is the free $k$-module generated by isotopy classes of framed oriented links in $M$ quotiented by the Homflypt skein relations: (1) $x^{-1}L_{+}-xL_{-}=(s-s^{-1})L_{0}$; (2) $L$ with a positive twist $=(xv^{-1})L$; (3) $L\sqcup O=(\frac{v-v^{-1}}{s-s^{-1}})L$ where $O$ is the unknot. We give two bases for the relative Homflypt skein module of the solid torus with 2 points in the…
We prove that, in order to derive the HOMFLYPT skein module of the lens spaces $L(p,1)$ from the HOMFLYPT skein module of the solid torus, $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$, it suffices to solve an infinite system of equations obtained by imposing on the Lambropoulou invariant $X$ for knots and links in the solid torus, braid band moves that are performed only on the first moving strand of elements in a set $Λ^{aug}$, augmenting the basis $Λ$ of $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$.
In this paper, we investigate the properties of the full colored HOMFLYPT invariants in the full skein of the annulus $\mathcal{C}$. We show that the full colored HOMFLYPT invariant has a nice structure when $q\rightarrow 1$. The composite invariant is a combination of the full colored HOMFLYPT invariants. In order to study the framed LMOV type conjecture for composite invariants, we introduce the framed reformulated composite invariant $\check{\mathcal{R}}_{p}(\mathcal{L})$. By using the HOMFLY skein theory, we prove that $\check{\mathcal{R}}_{p}(\mathcal{L})$ lies in the ring $2\mathbb{Z}[(q…
By using the HOMFLY skein theory. We prove a strong integrality theorem for the reduced colored HOMFLYPT invariants defined by a basis in the full HOMFLY skein of the annulus.
In this paper we present recent results toward the computation of the HOMFLYPT skein module of the lens spaces $L(p,1)$, $\mathcal{S}\left(L(p,1) \right)$, via braids. Our starting point is the knot theory of the solid torus ST and the Lambropoulou invariant, $X$, for knots and links in ST, the universal analogue of the HOMFLYPT polynomial in ST. The relation between $\mathcal{S}\left(L(p,1) \right)$ and $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$ is established in \cite{DLP} and it is shown that in order to compute $\mathcal{S}\left(L(p,1) \right)$, it suffices to solve an infinite system of equations obtained b…
In this paper we work toward the Homflypt skein module of the lens spaces $L(p,1)$, $\mathcal{S}(L(p,1))$, using braids. In particular, we establish the connection between $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$, the Homflypt skein module of the solid torus ST, and $\mathcal{S}(L(p,1))$ and arrive at an infinite system, whose solution corresponds to the computation of $\mathcal{S}(L(p,1))$. We start from the Lambropoulou invariant $X$ for knots and links in ST, the universal analogue of the Homflypt polynomial in ST, and a new basis, $Λ$, of $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$ presented in \cite{DL1}. We show that $\math…
In this paper we work toward the HOMFLYPT skein module of $L(p, 1)$, $\mathcal{S}(L(p,1))$, via braids. Our starting point is the linear Turaev-basis, $Λ^{\prime}$, of the HOMFLYPT skein module of the solid torus ST, $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$, which can be decomposed as the tensor product of the "positive" ${Λ^{\prime}}^+$ and the "negative" ${Λ^{\prime}}^-$ sub-modules, and the Lambropoulou invariant, $X$, for knots and links in ST, that captures $S({\rm ST})$. It is a well-known result by now that $\mathcal{S}(L(p, 1))=\frac{\mathcal{S}(ST)}{<bbm's>}$, where bbm's (braid band moves) denotes th…
New invariants of links are constructed using the skein invariant polynomial of colored links defined by the author in [1]. These invariants are stronger than the homflypt polynomial.
In this paper we give a new basis, $Λ$, for the Homflypt skein module of the solid torus, $\mathcal{S}({\rm ST})$, which was predicted by Jozef Przytycki, using topological interpretation. The basis $Λ$ is different from the basis $Λ^{\prime}$, discovered independently by Hoste--Kidwell \cite{HK} and Turaev \cite{Tu} with the use of diagrammatic methods. For finding the basis $Λ$ we use the generalized Hecke algebra of type B, $\textrm{H}_{1,n}$, defined by the second author in \cite{La2}, which is generated by looping elements and braiding elements and which is isomorphic to the affine Hecke …
Let k be an integral domain containing the invertible elements α, s and \frac{1}{s-s^{-1}}. If M is an oriented 3-manifold, let K(M) denote the Kauffman skein module of M over k. Based on the work on Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebra by Beliakova and Blanchet, we give an ``idempotent-like'' basis for the Kauffman skein module of handlebodies. Gilmer and Zhong have studied the Homflypt skein modules of a connected sum of two 3-manifolds, here we study the case for the Kauffman skein module and show that K(M_1 # M_2) is isomorphic to K(M_1) tensor K(M_2) over a certain localized ring, where M_1 # M_…
Following the recent work by Chan, and by Morton and Hadji on the Homflypt polynomials of some generalized Hopf links, we investigate the Kauffman polynomials of generalized Hopf links. By studying the Kauffman skein module of the solid torus S^1\times D^2, we establish a similar skein map on the Kauffman skein module of S^1\times D^2 which has distinct eigenvalues. Furthermore we are able to calculate the Kauffman polynomials of some specific generalized Hopf links.
We study the skein relation that governs the HOMFLYPT invariant of links colored by one-column Young diagrams. Our main result is a categorification of this colored skein relation. This takes the form of a homotopy equivalence between two one-sided twisted complexes constructed from Rickard complexes of singular Soergel bimodules associated to braided webs. Along the way, we prove a conjecture of Beliakova--Habiro relating the colored 2-strand full twist complex with the categorical ribbon element for quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$.
In this survey paper we present results about link diagrams in Seifert manifolds using arrow diagrams, starting with link diagrams in $F\times S^1$ and $N\hat{\times}S^1$, where $F$ is an orientable and $N$ an unorientable surface. Reidemeister moves for such arrow diagrams make the study of link invariants possible. Transitions between arrow diagrams and alternative diagrams are presented. We recall results about %the knot group presentation for lens spaces and the Kauffman bracket and HOMFLYPT skein modules of some Seifert manifolds using arrow diagrams, namely lens spaces, a product of a di…
Given any oriented link diagram, one can construct knot invariants using skein relations. Usually such a skein relation contains three or four terms. In this paper, the author introduces several new ways to smooth a crossings, and uses a system of skein equations to construct link invariant. This invariant can also be modified by writhe to get a more powerful invariant. The modified invariant is a generalization of both the HOMFLYPT polynomial and the two-variable Kauffman polynomial. Using the diamond lemma, a simplified version of the modified invariant is given. It is easy to compute and is…
We introduce an infinite family of quantum enhancements of the biquandle counting invariant we call biquandle virtual brackets. Defined in terms of skein invariants of biquandle colored oriented knot and link diagrams with values in a commutative ring $R$ using virtual crossings as smoothings, these invariants take the form of multisets of elements of $R$ and can be written in a "polynomial" form for convenience. The family of invariants defined herein includes as special cases all quandle and biquandle 2-cocycle invariants, all classical skein invariants (Alexander-Conway, Jones, HOMFLYPT and…
Given any oriented link diagram, two types of new knot invariants are constructed. They satisfy some generalized skein relations. The coefficients of each invariant is from a commutative ring. Homomorphisms and representations of those rings define new link invariants. For example, the HOMFLYPT polynomial with three variables. In this sense, type one invariant is a generalization of the HOMFLYPT polynomial. Those invariants can also be modified by writhe and parameterized to get more powerful invariants. For example, the modified type one invariant distinguishes mutants, and the parameterized …
We introduce new skein invariants of links based on a procedure where we first apply the skein relation only to crossings of distinct components, so as to produce collections of unlinked knots. We then evaluate the resulting knots using a given invariant. A skein invariant can be computed on each link solely by the use of skein relations and a set of initial conditions. The new procedure, remarkably, leads to generalizations of the known skein invariants. We make skein invariants of classical links, $H[R]$, $K[Q]$ and $D[T]$, based on the invariants of knots, $R$, $Q$ and $T$, denoting the reg…
In~\cite{Kim} the author generalized the Conway algebra and constructed the invariant valued in the generalized Conway algebra defined by applying two skein relations to crossings, which is called a generalized Conway type invariant. The generalized Conway type invariant is a generalization of Homflypt polynomial. In this paper we show that an example of links, which have the same value of Homflypt polynomial, but have different values of the generalized Conway type invariant. We study a properties of Conway type invariant related to Vassiliev invariant. In section 3 we discuss about further r…
In this paper we introduce the notion of admissible skein modules associated to an ideal in a pivotal category. We explain how these modules are generalizations of the Kauffman skein algebra and how they relate to renormalized quantum invariants coming from non-semisimple categories.
The Homflypt and Kauffman skein modules of the projective space are computed. Both are free and generated by some infinite set of links. This set may be chosen to be L_n, where L_n is an arbitrary link consisting of n projective lines for n>0, and L_0 is an affine unknot.
We give an explicit correspondence between stated skein algebras, which are defined via explicit relations on stated tangles in [Costantino F., Lê T.T.Q., arXiv:1907.11400], and internal skein algebras, which are defined as internal endomorphism algebras in free cocompletions of skein categories in [Ben-Zvi D., Brochier A., Jordan D., J. Topol. 11 (2018), 874-917, arXiv:1501.04652] or in [Gunningham S., Jordan D., Safronov P., arXiv:1908.05233]. Stated skein algebras are defined on surfaces with multiple boundary edges and we generalise internal skein algebras in this context. Now, one needs t…
We equip a knot $K$ with a set of colored bonds, that is, colored intervals properly embedded into $\mathbb{R}^3 \setminus K$. Such a construction can be viewed as a structure that topologically models a closed protein chain including any type of bridges connecting the backbone residues. We introduce an invariant of such colored bonded knots that respects the HOMFLYPT relation, namely the HOMFLYPT skein module of colored bonded knots. We show that the rigid version of the module is freely generated by colored $Θ$-curves and handcuff links, while the non-rigid version is freely generated by the…
Unitary fusion categories (UFCs) have gained increased attention due to emerging connections with quantum physics. We consider a fusion rule of the form $q\otimes q \cong \mathbf{1}\oplus\bigoplus^k_{i=1}x_{i}$ in a UFC $\mathcal{C}$, and extract information using the graphical calculus. For instance, we classify all associated skein relations when $k=1,2$ and $\mathcal{C}$ is ribbon. In particular, we also consider the instances where $q$ is antisymmetrically self-dual. Our main results follow from considering the action of a rotation operator on a "canonical basis". Assuming self-duality of …
Frobenius extensions play a central role in the link homology theories based upon the sl(n) link variants, and each of these Frobenius extensions may be recast geometrically via a category of marked cobordisms in the manner of Bar-Natan. Here we explore a large family of such marked cobordism categories that are relevant to generalized sl(n) link homology theories. We also investigate the skein modules that result from embedding these marked cobordisms within 3-manifolds, and arrive at an explicit presentation for several of these generalized skein modules.
The author defined for each (commutative) Frobenius algebra a skein module of surfaces in a $3$-manifold $M$ bounding a closed $1$-manifold $α\subset \partial M$. The surface components are colored by elements of the Frobenius algebra. The modules are called the Bar-Natan modules of $(M,α)$. In this article we show that Bar-Natan modules are colimit modules of functors associated to Frobenius algebras, decoupling topology from algebra. The functors are defined on a category of $3$-dimensional compression bordisms embedded in cylinders over $M$ and take values in a linear category defined from …
