Valadier and Hensgen proved independently that the restriction of functional $ϕ(x)=\int_{0}^{1}x(t)dt,\,\,x\in L^{\infty}([0,1])$ on the space of continuous functions $C([0,1])$ admits a singular extension back to the whole space $L^{\infty}([0,1]).$ Some general results in this direction for the Banach lattices were obtained by Abramovich and Wickstead. In present note we investigate analogous problem for variable exponent Lebesgue spaces, namely we prove that if the space of continuous functions $C([0,1])$ is closed subspace in $L^{p(\cdot)}([0,1]),$ then every bounded linear functional on $C([0,1])$ is the restriction of a singular linear functional on $L^{p(\cdot)}([0,1])$.
Given $1< p < q < \infty$ it is well know that the natural embedding of Lebesgue sequence spaces $\ell_p \hookrightarrow \ell_q$ is strictly singular. In this paper we extend this classical results and show that even the natural non-compact embedding between Lebesgue and weak Lebesgue sequence spaces $\ell_{p}\hookrightarrow \ell_{p,\infty}$ is strictly singular.
We deduce an extension theorem for the so-called Sobolev-Grand Lebesgue Spaces defined on the suitable subsets of the whole finite-dimensional Euclidean space, and estimate the norms of correspondent extension operator, which may be choosed as linear.
Suppose $Γ$ is a Carleson Jordan curve with logarithmic whirl points, $\varrho$ is a Khvedelidze weight, $p:Γ\to(1,\infty)$ is a continuous function satisfying $|p(τ)-p(t)|\le -\mathrm{const}/\log|τ-t|$ for $|τ-t|\le 1/2$, and $L^{p(\cdot)}(Γ,\varrho)$ is a weighted generalized Lebesgue space with variable exponent. We prove that all semi-Fredholm operators in the algebra of singular integral operators with $N\times N$ matrix piecewise continuous coefficients are Fredholm on $L_N^{p(\cdot)}(Γ,\varrho)$.
We prove a uniformly continuous linear extension principle in topological vector spaces from which we derive a very short and canonical construction of the Lebesgue integral of Banach space valued maps on a finite measure space. The Vitali Convergence Theorem and the Riesz-Fischer Theorem are shown to follow as easy consequences from our construction.
Let $a$ be a semi-almost periodic matrix function with the almost periodic representatives $a_l$ and $a_r$ at $-\infty$ and $+\infty$, respectively. Suppose $p:\mathbb{R}\to(1,\infty)$ is a slowly oscillating exponent such that the Cauchy singular integral operator $S$ is bounded on the variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$. We prove that if the operator $aP+Q$ with $P=(I+S)/2$ and $Q=(I-S)/2$ is Fredholm on the variable Lebesgue space $L_N^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$, then the operators $a_lP+Q$ and $a_rP+Q$ are invertible on standard Lebesgue spaces $L_N^{q_l}(\mathbb{R})$ and $L_N^…
In the paper two-weighted norm estimates with general weights for Hardy-type transforms, maximal functions, potentials and Calderón-Zygmund singular integrals in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces defined on quasimetric measure spaces $(X, d, μ)$ are established. In particular, we derive integral-type easily verifiable sufficient conditions governing two-weight inequalities for these operators. If exponents of Lebesgue spaces are constants, then most of the derived conditions are simultaneously necessary and sufficient for appropriate inequalities. Examples of weights governing the boundedness …
Recently V. Kokilashvili, N. Samko, and S. Samko have proved a sufficient condition for the boundedness of the Cauchy singular integral operator on variable Lebesgue spaces with radial oscillating weights over Carleson curves. This condition is formulated in terms of Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of weights. We prove a partial converse of their result.
In 1968, Israel Gohberg and Naum Krupnik discovered that local spectra of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients on Lebesgue spaces $L^p(Γ)$ over Lyapunov curves have the shape of circular arcs. About 25 years later, Albrecht Böttcher and Yuri Karlovich realized that these circular arcs metamorphose to so-called logarithmic leaves with a median separating point when Lyapunov curves metamorphose to arbitrary Carleson curves. We show that this result remains valid in a more general setting of variable Lebesgue spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}(Γ)$ where $p:Γ\to(1,\infty)$ satisfie…
We prove a Fredholm criterion for operators in the Banach algebra of singular integral operators with matrix piecewise continuous coefficients acting on a variable Lebesgue space with a radial oscillating weight over a logarithmic Carleson curve. The local spectra of these operators are massive and have a shape of spiralic horns depending on the value of the variable exponent, the spirality indices of the curve, and the Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of the weight at each point. These results extend (partially) the results of A. Böttcher, Yu. Karlovich, and V. Rabinovich for standard Lebesgue spac…
Let $p:\R\to(1,\infty)$ be a globally log-Hölder continuous variable exponent and $w:\R\to[0,\infty]$ be a weight. We prove that the Cauchy singular integral operator $S$ is bounded on the weighted variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)}(\R,w)=\{f:fw\in L^{p(\cdot)}(\R)\}$ if and only if the weight $w$ satisfies \[ \sup_{-\infty<a<b<\infty} \frac{1}{b-a}\|wχ_{(a,b)}\|_{p(\cdot)}\|w^{-1}χ_{(a,b)}\|_{p'(\cdot)}<\infty \quad (1/p(x)+1/p'(x)=1). \]
We present a Lebesgue-type decomposition for a representable functional on a $^*$-algebra into absolutely continuous and singular parts with respect to an other. This generalizes the corresponding results of S. P. Gudder for unital Banach $^*$-algebras. We also prove that the corresponding absolutely continuous parts are absolutely continuous with respect to each other.
Here using some methods of combinatorial set theory, particularly the ones related to the construction of independent families of sets and some modified version of the notion of small sets originally introduced by Riecan, Riecan and Neubrunn, we give abstract and generalized formulation of a remarkable theorem of Kakutani and Oxtoby relating to nonseparable extension of Lebesgue measure in spaces with transformation groups
In this article we introduce and investigate a new class of rearrangement invariant (r.i.) Banach function spaces, so-called Composed Grand Lebesgue Spaces (CGLS), in particular, Integral Grand Lebesgue Spaces (IGLS), which are some generalizations of known Grand Lebesgue Spaces (GLS). We consider the fundamental functions of CGLS, calculate its Boyd's indices, obtain the norm boundedness some (regular and singular) operators in this spaces, investigate the conjugate and associate spaces, show that CGLS obeys the absolute continuous norm property etc.
We obtain one variant of the extrapolation theorem of Rubio de Fracia for variable exponent Lebesgue spaces. As a consequence we obtain conditions guarantee boundedness of strongly singular integral operators, singular integral operators with rough kernels, fractional maximal operators related to spherical means, Bochner-Riesz operators in variable Lebesgue spaces.
We introduce a new class of quasi-Banach spaces as an extension of the classical Grand Lebesgue Spaces for small values of the parameter, and we investigate some its properties, in particular, completeness, fundamental function, operators estimates, Boyd indices, contraction principle, tail behavior, dual space, generalized triangle and quadrilateral constants and inequalities.
Given a monotone convex function on the space of essentially bounded random variables with the Lebesgue property (order continuity), we consider its extension preserving the Lebesgue property to as big solid vector space of random variables as possible. We show that there exists a maximum such extension, with explicit construction, where the maximum domain of extension is obtained as a (possibly proper) subspace of a natural Orlicz-type space, characterized by a certain uniform integrability property. As an application, we provide a characterization of the Lebesgue property of monotone convex …
Embeddability of $\ell_p$-spaces into mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces in connection with the validity of vector-valued extensions of the Riesz--Fischer Theorem
Two-weight criteria of various type for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and singular integrals in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces defined on the real line are established.
Let $w\in L^1\_{loc}(\R^n)$ be apositive weight. Assuming that a doubling condition and an $L^1$ Poincaré inequality on balls for the measure $w(x)dx$, as well as a growth condition on $w$, we prove that the compact subsets of $\R^n$ which are removable for the distributional divergence in $L^{\infty}\_{1/w}$ are exactly those with vanishing weighted Hausdorff measure. We also give such a characterization for $L^p\_{1/w}$, $1\textless{}p\textless{}+\infty$, in terms of capacity. This generalizes results due to Phuc and Torres, Silhavy and the first author.
We introduce the Lorentz space $\mathcal{L}^{p(\cdot), q(\cdot)}$ with variable exponents $p(t),q(t)$ and prove the boundedness of singular integral and fractional type operators, and corresponding ergodic operators in these spaces. The main goal of the paper is to show that the boundedness of these operators in the spaces $\mathcal{L}^{p(\cdot), q(\cdot)}$ is possible without the local log-condition on the exponents, typical for the variable exponent Lebesgue spaces; instead the exponents $p(s)$ and $q(s)$ should only satisfy decay conditions of log-type as $s\to 0$ and $s\to\infty$. To prove…
Integrating with respect to functions which are constant on intervals whose bounds are discontinuity points (of those functions) is frequent in many branches of Mathematics, specially in stochastic processes. For such functions and alike extension, a comparison between Riemann-Stieltjes and Lebesgue-Stieltjes integration and the integrals formulas leads to interesting facts for students (as complements of Measure Theory and Integrations) and for practitioners and and researchers. We undergone conditions of existence the Riemann-Stieltjes integrals related to that type of function and compare t…

In 1968, Gohberg and Krupnik found a Fredholm criterion for singular integral operators of the form $aP+bQ$, where $a,b$ are piecewise continuous functions and $P,Q$ are complementary projections associated to the Cauchy singular integral operator, acting on Lebesgue spaces over Lyapunov curves. We extend this result to the case of Nakano spaces (also known as variable Lebesgue spaces) with certain weights having finite sets of discontinuities on arbitrary Carleson curves.
A linear relation, i.e., a multivalued operator $T$ from a Hilbert space ${\mathfrak H}$ to a Hilbert space ${\mathfrak K}$ has Lebesgue type decompositions $T=T_{1}+T_{2}$, where $T_{1}$ is a closable operator and $T_{2}$ is an operator or relation which is singular. There is one canonical decomposition, called the Lebesgue decomposition of $T$, whose closable part is characterized by its maximality among all closable parts in the sense of domination. All Lebesgue type decompositions are parametrized, which also leads to necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of such decomposi…
The structure of non-compactness of optimal Sobolev embeddings of $m$-th order into the class of Lebesgue spaces and into that of all rearrangement-invariant function spaces is quantitatively studied. Sharp two-sided estimates of Bernstein numbers of such embeddings are obtained. It is shown that, whereas the optimal Sobolev embedding within the class of Lebesgue spaces is finitely strictly singular, the optimal Sobolev embedding in the class of all rearrangement-invariant function spaces is not even strictly singular.
In this paper, we first prove some local estimates for bilinear operators (closely related to the bilinear Hilbert transform and similar singular operators) with truncated symbol. Such estimates, in accordance with the Heisenberg uncertainty principle correspond to a description of ``off-diagonal'' decay. In addition they allow us to prove global continuities in Lebesgue spaces for bilinear operators with spatial dependent symbol.
In this paper we study some estimates of norms in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces for a singular integral operators that are imaginary powers of the Laplace operator in $\R^n$. Using Mellin transform argument, from this estimates we obtain boundedness for a family of maximal operators in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces, which are closely related to the (weak) solution of the wave equation.42B25, 42B20, 46E30, 44A10, 42B10, 35L05
Let $(X,d,μ)$ denotes non-homogeneous metric measure space satisfying geometrically doubling and the upper doubling measure condition. In this paper, the boundedness in Lebesgue spaces for two kinds of commutators, which are iterated commutators and commutators in summation form, generated by multilinear strongly singular integral operators with RBMO$(μ)$ function on non-homogeneous metric measure spaces $(X,d,μ)$ is obtained.
Let $(X,d,μ)$ be a metric measure space satisfying both the geometrically doubling and the upper doubling measure conditions, which is called non-homogeneous metric measure space. In this paper, via a sharp maximal operator, the boundedness of commutators generated by multilinear singular integral with $RBMO(μ)$ function on non-homogeneous metric measure spaces in $m$-multiple Lebesgue spaces is obtained.
For kernels $ν$ which are positive and integrable we show that the operator $g\mapsto J_νg=\int_0^x ν(x-s)g(s)ds$ on a finite time interval enjoys a regularizing effect when applied to Hölder continuous and Lebesgue functions and a "contractive" effect when applied to Sobolev functions. For Hölder continuous functions, we establish that the improvement of the regularity of the modulus of continuity is given by the integral of the kernel, namely by the factor $N(x)=\int_0^x ν(s)ds$. For functions in Lebesgue spaces, we prove that an improvement always exists, and it can be expressed in terms of…
Let $Q$ be a fundamental domain of some full-rank lattice in ${\Bbb R}^d$ and let $μ$ and $ν$ be two positive Borel measures on ${\Bbb R}^d$ such that the convolution $μ\astν$ is a multiple of $χ_Q$. We consider the problem as to whether or not both measures must be spectral (i.e. each of their respective associated $L^2$ space admits an orthogonal basis of exponentials) and we show that this is the case when $Q = [0,1]^d$. This theorem yields a large class of examples of spectral measures which are either absolutely continuous, singularly continuous or purely discrete spectral measures. In ad…
A Nikishin-Maurey characterization is given for bounded subsets of weak-type Lebesgue spaces. New factorizations for linear and multilinear operators are shown to follow.
We study the construction of nonuniform tight wavelet frames for the Lebesgue space $L^2(\mathbb{R})$, where the related translation set is not necessary a group. The main purpose of this paper is to prove the unitary extension principle (UEP) and the oblique extension principle (OEP) for construction of multi-generated nonuniform tight wavelet frames for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. Some examples are also given to illustrate the results.
We establish a Fredholm criterion for an arbitrary operator in the Banach algebra of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients on Nakano spaces (generalized Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent) with Khvedelidze weights over Carleson curves with logarithmic whirl points.
We study the structure of bounded linear functionals on a class of non-self-adjoint operator algebras that includes the multiplier algebra of every complete Nevanlinna-Pick space, and in particular the multiplier algebra of the Drury-Arveson space. Our main result is a Lebesgue decomposition expressing every linear functional as the sum of an absolutely continuous (i.e. weak-* continuous) linear functional, and a singular linear functional that is far from being absolutely continuous. This is a non-self-adjoint analogue of Takesaki's decomposition theorem for linear functionals on von Neumann …
Broadly speaking, this paper is concerned with dual spaces of operator algebras. More precisely, we investigate the existence of what we call Lebesgue projections: central projections in the bidual of an operator algebra that detect the weak-$*$ continuous part of the dual space. Associated to any such projection is a Lebesgue decomposition of the dual space. We are particularly interested in Lebesgue projections in the context of inclusions of operator algebras. We show how their presence is intimately connected with an extension property for the inclusion reminiscent of a classical theorem o…
We prove necessary conditions for Fredholmness of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients on weighted Banach function spaces. These conditions are formulated in terms of indices of submultiplicative functions associated with local properties of the space, of the curve, and of the weight. As an example, we consider weighted Nakano spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}_w$ (weighted Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent). Moreover, our necessary conditions become also sufficient for weighted Nakano spaces over nice curves whenever $w$ is a Khvedelidze weight, and the variable exponent …
We reduce the boundedness of operators in Morrey spaces $L_p^r({\mathbb R}^n)$, its preduals, $H^{\varrho}L_p ({\mathbb R}^n)$, and their preduals $\overset{\circ}{L}{}^r_p({\mathbb R}^n)$ to the boundedness of the appropriate operators in Lebesgue spaces, $L_p({\mathbb R}^n)$. Hereby, we need a weak condition with respect to the operators which is satisfied for a large set of classical operators of harmonic analysis including singular integral operators and the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function. The given vector-valued consideration of these issues is a key ingredient for various applications…
This paper can be considered as the sequel of [6], where the authors have proposed an abstract construction of Hardy spaces H^1. They shew an interpolation result for these Hardy spaces with the Lebesgue spaces. Here we describe a more precise result using the real interpolation theory and we clarify the use of Hardy spaces. Then with the help of the bilinear interpolation theory, we then give applications to study bilinear operators on Lebesgue spaces. These ideas permit us to study singular operators with singularities similar to those of bilinear Calderon-Zygmund operators in a far more abs…
We prove that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a separable Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and a maximally modulated Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operator $T^Φ$ is of weak type $(r,r)$ for all $r\in(1,\infty)$, then $T^Φ$ extends to a bounded operator on $X(\mathbb{R}^n)$. This theorem implies the boundedness of the maximally modulated Hilbert transform on variable Lebesgue spaces $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$ under natural assumptions on the variable exponent $p:\mathbb{R}\to(1,\infty)$. Applications of the above r…
The Riesz-Markov theorem identifies any positive, finite, and regular Borel measure on the complex unit circle with a positive linear functional on the continuous functions. By the Weierstrass approximation theorem, the continuous functions are obtained as the norm closure of the Disk Algebra and its conjugates. Here, the Disk Algebra can be viewed as the unital norm-closed operator algebra of the shift operator on the Hardy Space, $H^2$ of the disk. Replacing square-summable Taylor series indexed by the non-negative integers, i.e. $H^2$ of the disk, with square-summable power series indexed b…
Given three measurable functions $V\left(r \right)\geq 0$, $K\left(r\right)> 0$ and $Q\left(r \right)\geq 0$, $r>0$, we consider the bilaplacian equation \[ Δ^2 u+V(|x|)u=K(|x|)f(u)+Q(|x|) \quad \text{in }\,\mathbb{R}^N \] and we find radial solutions thanks to compact embeddings of radial spaces of Sobolev functions into sum of weighted Lebesgue spaces.
We define $A_{p(\cdot)}^{\rm loc}$ and show that the weighted inequality for local Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator on the Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent. This work will extend the theory of Rychkov, who developed the theory of $A_p^{\rm loc}$ weights. It will also extend the work by Cruz-Uribe. SFO, Fiorenza and Neugebaucer, who considered the Muckenhoupt class for Lebesgue spaces with variable exponents. Due to the setting of variable exponents, a new method of extension of weights will be needed; the extension method is different from the one by Rychkov. A passage to the vector-va…
Last years there was increasing an interest to the so called function spaces with non-standard growth, known also as variable exponent Lebesgue spaces. For weighted such spaces on homogeneous spaces, we develop a certain variant of Rubio de Francia's extrapolation theorem. This extrapolation theorem is applied to obtain the boundedness in such spaces of various operators of harmonic analysis, such as maximal and singular operators, potential operators, Fourier multipliers, dominants of partial sums of trigonometric Fourier series and others, in weighted Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent. …
One of the goals of this article is to define a an unified setting adapted to the description of means (normalized integrals or invariant means) on an infinite product of measured spaces with infinite measure. We first remark that some known examples coming from the theory of metric measured spaces and also from oscillatory integrals are obtained as limits of means with respect to finite measures. Then, we explore in a systematic way the limit of means of the type $$ \lim \frac{1}{μ(U_n)} \int_{U_n} f dμ$$ where $μ$ is a a $σ-$finite Radon measure $μ.$ In some cases, we get a linear extension …
