Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a basic simple Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and $θ$ an involution of $\mathfrak{g}$ preserving a nondegenerate invariant form. We prove that either $θ$ or $δ\circθ$ admits an Iwasawa decomposition, where $δ$ is the canonical grading automorphism $δ(x)=(-1)^{\overline{x}}x$. The proof uses the notion of generalized root systems as developed by Serganova, and follows from a more general result on centralizers of certain tori coming from semisimple automorphisms of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}$.
The Cartan and Iwasawa decompositions of real reductive Lie groups play a fundamental role in the representation theory of the groups and their corresponding symmetric spaces. These decompositions are defined by an involution with a compact fixed-point group, called a Cartan involution. For an arbitrary involution, one can consider similar decompositions. We offer a generalization of the Cartan and Iwasawa decompositions for algebraic groups defined over an arbitrary field $k$ and a general involution.
We set up an abstract framework that allows the investigation of Iwasawa decompositions for involutive infinite-dimensional Lie groups modeled on Banach spaces. As an application, we construct Iwasawa decompositions for classical real or complex Banach-Lie groups associated with the Schatten ideals ${\mathfrak S}_p({\mathcal H})$ on a complex separable Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}$ if $1<p<\infty$.
Let $G=GL_{n}(R)$, with the usual Cartan decomposition $G=Kexp(p_0)$ and the usual Iwasawa decomposition $G=NAK$. We determine the image of $exp(p_0)$ under the projection of $G$ to $K$ through the Iwasawa decomposition. As an application, we prove a positivity result about the matrix coefficients of principal series representations of $G$.
We obtain a complete classification of all finite-dimensional irreducible modules over classical map superalgebras, provide formulas for their (super)characters and a description of their extension groups. Furthermore, we describe the block decomposition of the category of finite-dimensional modules for such map superalgebras. As an application, we specialize our results to the case of loop superalgebras in order to obtain a classification of finite-dimensional irreducible modules and block decomposition of the category of finite-dimensional modules over affine Lie superalgebras.
We construct generators of the center of the universal enveloping algebra of the complex orthogonal Lie algebra realized as the alternative matrices of size $n$. These elements are constructed in accordance with the Iwasawa decomposition of the real rank one indefinite orthogonal Lie algebra. We also discuss the Iwasawa decomposition of the Pfaffian.
We discuss Cauchy type decompositions of crystal graphs for general linear Lie superalgebras. More precisely, we consider bicrystal graph structures on various sets of matrices of non-negative integers, and obtain their decompositions with explicit combinatorial isomorphisms.
The purpose of this paper is to prove Duflo's conjecture for $(G,π, AN)$ where $G$ is a simple Lie group of Hermitian type and $π$ is a discrete series of $G$ and $AN$ is the maximal exponential solvable subgroup for an Iwasawa decomposition $G=KAN$. This is essentially reduced from the following general theorem we prove in this paper: let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group . Then a strongly elliptic $G$-coadjoint orbit $\mathcal{O}$ is holomorphic if and only if $\text{p}(\mathcal{O})$ is an open $AN$-coadjoint orbit, where $\text{p} : \mathfrak{g}^* \longrightarrow (\mathfrak{a}\oplus\m…
We study the eigenspace decomposition of a basic classical Lie superalgebra under the adjoint action of a toral subalgebra, thus extending results of Kostant. In recognition of Kostant's contribution we refer to the eigenspaces appearing in the decomposition as Kostant roots. We then prove that Kostant root systems inherit the main properties of classical root systems. Our approach is combinatorial in nature and utilizes certain graphs naturally associated with Kostant root systems. In particular, we reprove Kostant's results without making use of the Killing form.
Following analogous constructions for Lie algebras, we define Whittaker modules and Whittaker categories for finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebras. Results include a decomposition of Whittaker categories for a Lie superalgebra according to the action of an appropriate sub-superalgebra; and, for basic classical Lie superalgebras of type I, a description of the strongly typical simple Whittaker modules.
We study the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ of finite-dimensional integrable representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$. We define an action of the Temperley--Lieb algebra with infinitely many generators and defining parameter $0$ on the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ by translation functors. We also introduce combinatorial tools, called weight diagrams and arrow diagrams for $\mathfrak{p}(n)$ resembling those for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. Using the Temperley--Lieb algebra action and the combinatorics of weight and arrow diagrams, we then calculate the multiplicities of standard and…
In this paper, we give an explicit combinatorial realization of the crystal B(λ) for an irreducible highest weight U_q(q(n))-module V(λ) in terms of semistandard decomposition tableaux. We present an insertion scheme for semistandard decomposition tableaux and give algorithms of decomposing the tensor product of q(n)-crystals. Consequently, we obtain explicit combinatorial descriptions of the shifted Littlewood-Richardson coefficients.
The aim is to determine the derivations of the three series of finite-dimensional Z-graded Lie superalgebras of Cartan-type over a field of characteristic p > 3, called the special odd Hamiltonian superalgebras. To that end we first determine the derivations of negative Z-degree for the restricted and simple special odd Hamiltonian superalgebras by means of weight space decompositions. Then the results are used to determine the derivations of negative Z-degree for the nonrestricted and non-simple special odd Hamiltonian superalgebras. Finally the derivation algebras and the outer derivation al…
We study a dual pair of general linear Lie superalgebras in the sense of R. Howe. We give an explicit multiplicity-free decomposition of a symmetric and skew-symmetric algebra (in the super sense) under the action of the dual pair and present explicit formulas for the highest weight vectors in each isotypic subspace of the symmetric algebra. We give an explicit multiplicity-free decomposition into irreducible $gl(m|n)$-modules of the symmetric and skew-symmetric algebras of the symmetric square of the natural representation of $gl(m|n)$. In the former case we find as well explicit formulas for…
We classify simple Whittaker modules for classical Lie superalgebras in terms of their parabolic decompositions. We establish a type of Miličić-Soergel equivalence of a category of Whittaker modules and a category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. For classical Lie superalgebras of type I, we reduce the problem of composition factors of standard Whittaker modules to that of Verma modules in their BGG categories $\mathcal O$. As a consequence, the composition series of standard Whittaker modules over the general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$ and the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras…
We solve two problems in representation theory for the periplectic Lie superalgebra pe(n), namely the description of the primitive spectrum in terms of functorial realisations of the braid group and the decomposition of category O into indecomposable blocks. To solve the first problem we establish a new type of equivalence between category O for all (not just simple or basic) classical Lie superalgebras and a category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. The latter bimodules have a left action of the Lie superalgebra but a right action of the underlying Lie algebra. To solve the second problem we esta…
In this paper, we begin the study of highest weight representations of the quantized enveloping superalgebra ${\mathfrak U}_q {\mathfrak p}_n$ of type $P$. We introduce a Drinfeld-Jimbo representation and establish a triangular-decomposition of ${\mathfrak U}_q {\mathfrak p}_n$. We explain how to relate modules over ${\mathfrak U}_q {\mathfrak p}_n$ to modules over ${\mathfrak p}_n$, the Lie superalgebra of type $P$, and we prove that the category of tensor modules over ${\mathfrak U}_q {\mathfrak p}_n$ is not semisimple.
The simple integrable modules with finite dimensional weight spaces are classified for the quantum affine special linear superalgebra $\U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}(M|N))$ at generic $q$. Any such module is shown to be a highest weight or lowest weight module with respect to one of the two natural triangular decompositions of the quantum affine superalgebra depending on whether the level of the module is zero or not. Furthermore, integrable $\U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}(M|N))$-modules at nonzero levels exist only if $M$ or $N$ is $1$.
We establish a new Howe duality between a pair of quantum queer superalgebras $(\mathrm{U}_{q^{-1}}(\mathfrak{q}_n), \mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{q}_m))$. The key ingredient is the construction of a non-commutative analogue $\mathcal{A}_q(\mathfrak{q}_n,\mathfrak{q}_m)$ of the symmetric superalgebra $S(\mathbb{C}^{mn|mn})$ with the use of quantum coordinate queer superalgebra. It turns out that this superalgebra is equipped with a $\mathrm{U}_{q^{-1}}(\mathfrak{q}_n)\otimes\mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{q}_m)$-supermodule structure that admits a multiplicity-free decomposition. We also show that the $(\math…
Given an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic zero, a Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}$ over $\Bbbk$ and an associative, commutative $\Bbbk$-algebra $A$ with unit, a Lie superalgebra of the form $\mathfrak{g} \otimes_\Bbbk A$ is known as a map superalgebra. Map superalgebras generalize important classes of Lie superalgebras, such as, loop superalgebras (where $A=\Bbbk[t, t^{-1}]$), and current superalgebras (where $A=\Bbbk[t]$). In this paper, we define Weyl functors, global and local Weyl modules for all map superalgebras where $\mathfrak{g}$ is either $\mathfrak{sl} (n,n)$ with…
We study a family of Siegel modular forms that are constructed using Jacobi forms that arise in Umbral moonshine. All but one of them arise as the Weyl-Kac-Borcherds denominator formula of some Borcherds-Kac-Moody (BKM) Lie superalgebras. These Lie superalgebras have a $\widehat{sl(2)}$ subalgebra which we use to study the Siegel modular forms. We show that the expansion of the Umbral Jacobi forms in terms of $\widehat{sl(2)}$ characters leads to vector-valued modular forms. We obtain closed formulae for these vector-valued modular forms. In the Lie algebraic context, the Fourier coefficients …
We prove a remarkable generalization of a convexity theorem for semisimple symmetric spaces G/H established earlier in 1986 by the second named author. The latter result generalized Kostant's non-linear convexity theorem for the Iwasawa decomposition of a real semisimple Lie group. The present generalization involves Iwasawa decompositions related to minimal parabolic subgroups of G of arbitrary type instead of the particular type relative to H considered in 1986.
Let $Γ$ be a countable abelian semigroup and $A$ be a countable abelian group satisfying a certain finiteness condition. Suppose that a group $G$ acts on a $(Γ\times A)$-graded Lie superalgebra ${\frak L}=\bigoplus_{(α,a) \in Γ\times A} {\frak L}_{(α,a)}$ by Lie superalgebra automorphisms preserving the $(Γ\times A)$-gradation. In this paper, we show that the Euler-Poincaré principle yields the generalized denominator identity for ${\frak L}$ and derive a closed form formula for the supertraces $\text{str}(g|{\frak L}_{(α,a)})$ for all $g\in G$,$(α,a) \in Γ\times A$. We discuss the application…
We show that, for an arbitrary quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra with a triangular decomposition and a character $ζ$ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category $\mathcal O$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ and its target category, respect…
Let ${\mathfrak g}$ be a classical simple Lie superalgebra. In this paper, the author studies the cohomology groups for the subalgebra $\mathfrak{n}^{+}$ relative to the BBW parabolic subalgebras constructed by D. Grantcharov, N. Grantcharov, Nakano and Wu. These classical Lie superalgebras have a triangular decomposition ${\mathfrak g}={\mathfrak n}^{-}\oplus {\mathfrak f} \oplus {\mathfrak n}^{+}$ where $\mathfrak f$ is a detecting subalgebra as introduced by Boe, Kujawa and Nakano. It is shown that there exists a Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence that collapses for all infinite families of…
The character formula of any finite dimensional irreducible module $L_λ$ for Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(n|2)$ is computed. As a by-product, the decomposition of tensor module $L_λ\otimes \mathbb{C}^{n|2}$, where $\mathbb{C}^{n|2}$ is the natural representation, is obtained.
We study the Howe dualities involving the reductive dual pairs $(O(d),spo(2m|2n))$ and $(Sp(d),osp(2m|2n))$ on the (super)symmetric tensor of $\C^d\otimes\C^{m|n}$. We obtain complete decompositions of this space with respect to their respective joint actions. We also use these dualities to derive a character formula for these irreducible representations of $spo(2m|2n)$ and $osp(2m|2n)$ that appear in these decompositions.
The square-root of Siegel modular forms of CHL Z_N orbifolds of type II compactifications are denominator formulae for some Borcherds-Kac-Moody Lie superalgebras for N=1,2,3,4. We study the decomposition of these Siegel modular forms in terms of characters of two sub-algebras: one is a $\widehat{sl(2)}$ and the second is a Borcherds extension of the $\widehat{sl(2)}$. This is a continuation of our previous work where we studied the case of Siegel modular forms appearing in the context of Umbral moonshine. This situation is more intricate and provides us with a new example (for N=5) that did no…
Given a complex orthosymplectic superspace $V$, the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak {osp}(V)$ and general linear algebra ${\mathfrak {gl}}_N$ both act naturally on the coordinate super-ring $\mathcal{S}(N)$ of the dual space of $V\otimes{\mathbb C}^N$, and their actions commute. Hence the subalgebra $\mathcal{S}(N)^{\mathfrak {osp}(V)}$ of $\mathfrak {osp}(V)$-invariants in $\mathcal{S}(N)$ has a ${\mathfrak {gl}}_N$-module structure. We introduce the space of super Pfaffians as a simple ${\mathfrak {gl}}_N$-submodule of $\mathcal{S}(N)^{\mathfrak {osp}(V)}$, give an explicit formu…
We introduce the PBW degeneration for basic classical Lie superalgebras and construct for all type I, $\mathfrak{osp}(1,2n)$ and exceptional Lie superalgebras new monomial bases. These bases are parametrized by lattice points in convex lattice polytopes, sharing useful properties such as the integer decomposition property. This paper is the first step towards extending the framework of PBW degenerations to the Lie superalgebra setting.
Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}+\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$ be a basic Lie superalgebra, $\mathcal{W}_0$ (resp.$\mathcal{W}$) be the finite W-(resp.super-) algebras constructed from a fixed nilpotent element in $\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$. Based on a relation between finite W-algebra $\mathcal{W}_0$ and W-superalgebra $\mathcal{W}$ found recently by the author and Shu, we study the finite dimensional representations of finite W-superalgebras in this paper. We first formulate and prove a version of Premet's conjecture for the finite W-superalgebras from basic simple Lie superalgebras. As in t…
Over a field of characteristic p>2, firstly, the structure of Kac modules of Lie superalgebra $\tilde{P}(2)$ and the weight space decompositions are given. Secondly, the weight-derivations of $\tilde{P}(2)$ to its Kac modules are computed. Finally, the first cohomology of $\tilde{P}(2)$ with coefficients in Kac modules is determined.
We study the quantum affine superalgebra $U_q(Lsl(M,N))$ and its finite-dimensional representations. We prove a triangular decomposition and establish a system of Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt generators for this superalgebra, both in terms of Drinfel'd currents. We define the Weyl modules in the spirit of Chari-Pressley and prove that these Weyl modules are always finite-dimensional and non-zero. In consequence, we obtain a highest weight classification of finite-dimensional simple representations when $M \neq N$. Some concrete simple representations are constructed via evaluation morphisms.
In this paper, we investigate the structure of highest weight modules over the quantum queer superalgebra $U_q(q(n))$. The key ingredients are the triangular decomposition of $U_q(q(n))$ and the classification of finite dimensional irreducible modules over quantum Clifford superalgebras. The main results we prove are the classical limit theorem and the complete reducibility theorem for $U_q(q(n))$-modules in the category $O_q^{\geq 0}$.
Let $ X = G/K $ be a rank one Riemannian symmetric space of noncompact type. In view of the Iwasawa decomposition $ G = NAK $ of the underlying semisimple Lie group, we can also view $ X $ as the solvable extension $ S = NA $ of the Iwasawa group $ N$ which is known to be a $H$-type group. In this work we study the holomorphic extendability of eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator $ Δ_S$ on $ S $ to certain domains in the complexification of the nilpotent group $ N$. We can also do the same for any $H$-type group $ N $ not necessarily an Iwasawa group. The results are accomplished by…
We define global and local Weyl modules for Lie superalgebras of the form $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, where $A$ is an associative commutative unital $\mathbb{C}$-algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a basic Lie superalgebra or $\mathfrak{sl}(n,n)$, $n \ge 2$. Under some mild assumptions, we prove universality, finite-dimensionality, and tensor product decomposition properties for these modules. These properties are analogues of those of Weyl modules in the non-super setting. We also point out some features that are new in the super case.
It is shown that the direct limit of the semistandard decomposition tableau model for polynomial representations of the queer Lie superalgebra exists, which is believed to be the crystal for the upper half of the corresponding quantum group. An extension of this model to describe the direct limit combinatorially is given. Furthermore, it is shown that the polynomial representations may be recovered from the limit in most cases.
This paper is a natural continuation of our previous work on conformal embeddings of vertex algebras [6], [7], [8]. Here we consider conformal embeddings in simple affine vertex superalgebra $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ where $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak g_{\bar 0}\oplus \mathfrak g_{\bar 1}$ is a basic classical simple Lie superalgebras. Let $\mathcal V_k (\mathfrak g_{\bar 0})$ be the subalgebra of $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ generated by $\mathfrak g_{\bar 0}$. We first classify all levels $k$ for which the embedding $\mathcal V_k (\mathfrak g_{\bar 0})$ in $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ is conformal. Next we prove that, for a…
For any decomposition of a Lie superalgebra $\mathcal G$ into a direct sum $\mathcal G=\mathcal H\oplus\mathcal E$ of a subalgebra $\mathcal H$ and a subspace $\mathcal E$, without any further resctrictions on $\mathcal H$ and $\mathcal E$, we construct a nonlinear realisation of $\mathcal G$ on $\mathcal E$. The result generalises a theorem by Kantor from Lie algebras to Lie superalgebras. When $\mathcal G$ is a differential graded Lie algebra, we show that it gives a construction of an associated $L_\infty$-algebra.
We study the periplectic Brauer algebra introduced by Moon in the study of invariant theory for periplectic Lie superalgebras. We determine when the algebra is quasi-hereditary and, for fields of characteristic zero, describe the block decomposition. To achieve this, we also develop theories of Jucys-Murphy elements, Bratteli diagrams, Murphy bases, determine when there exist quasi-hereditary 1-covers, obtain a BGG reciprocity relation and determine some decomposition multiplicities of cell modules. As an application, we determine the blocks in the category of finite dimensional weight modules…
We introduce and obtain multimode paraboson coherent states. In appropriate subspaces these coherent states provide a decomposition of unity where the measure, when expressed using the cat-type states, is positive definite. Bicoherent states where the mutually commuting lowering operators are diagonalized are also obtained. Matrix elements in the coherent state basis are calculated.
A Jantzen type filtration for generalised Varma modules of Lie superalgebras is introduced. In the case of type I Lie superalgebras, it is shown that the generalised Jantzen filtration for any Kac module is the unique Loewy filtration, and the decomposition numbers of the layers of the filtration are determined by the coefficients of inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. Furthermore, the length of the Jantzen filtration for any Kac module is determined explicitly in terms of the degree of atypicality of the highest weight. These results are applied to obtain a detailed description of the submod…
Let $g$ be an exceptional Lie superalgebra, and let $p$ be the maximal parabolic subalgebra which contains the distinguished Borel subalgebra and has a purely even Levi subalgebra. For any parabolic Verma module in the parabolic category $O^p$, it is shown that the Jantzen filtration is the unique Loewy filtration, and the decomposition numbers of the layers of the filtration are determined by the coefficients of inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. An explicit description of the submodule lattices of the parabolic Verma modules is given, and formulae for characters and dimensions of the finit…
For a finite dimensional unital complex simple Jordan superalgebra $J$, the Tits-Kantor-Koecher construction yields a 3-graded Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak g_\flat\cong \mathfrak g_\flat(-1)\oplus\mathfrak g_\flat(0)\oplus\mathfrak g_\flat(1)$, such that $\mathfrak g_\flat(-1)\cong J$. Set $V:=\mathfrak g_\flat(-1)^*$ and $\mathfrak g:=\mathfrak g_\flat(0)$. In most cases, the space $\mathcal P(V)$ of superpolynomials on $V$ is a completely reducible and multiplicity-free representation of $\mathfrak g$, with a decomposition $\mathcal P(V):=\bigoplus_{λ\inΩ}V_λ$, where $\left(V_λ\right)_{λ\inΩ}…
A new, so called odd Gel'fand-Zetlin basis is introduced for the irreducible covariant tensor representations of the Lie superalgebra gl(n|n). The related Gel'fand-Zetlin patterns are based upon the decomposition according to a particular chain of subalgebras of gl(n|n). This chain contains only genuine Lie superalgebras of type gl(k|l) with k and l nonzero (apart from the final element of the chain which is gl(1|0)=gl(1)). Explicit expressions for a set of generators of the algebra on this Gel'fand-Zetlin basis are determined. The results are extended to an explicit construction of a class of…
Utilizing Lie superalgebra (LS) realizations via the Relative Parabose Set algebra $P_{BF}$, combined with earlier results on the Fock-like representations of $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$, we proceed to the construction of a family of Fock-like representations of LSs: these are infinite dimensional, decomposable super-representations, which are parameterized by the value of a positive integer $p$. They can be constructed for any LS $L$, either initiating from a given 2-dimensional, $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-graded representation of $L$ or using its inclusion as a subalgebra of $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$. As an application w…
In previous work Regev used part of the representation theory of Lie superalgebras to compute the values of a character of the symmetric group whose decomposition into irreducible constituents is described by semistandard $(k,\ell)$-tableaux. In this short note we give a new proof of Regev's result using skew characters.
