In this work, we present the analytical approach to the evaluation of the conditional measure Wiener path integral. We consider the time-dependent model parameters. We find the differential equation for the variable, determining the behavior of the harmonic as well the an-harmonic parts of the oscillator. We present the an-harmonic part of the result in the form of the operator function.
We use the tridiagonal representation approach to obtain an exact solution of the three-dimensional radial Schrödinger equation for a spiked oscillator with inverse quartic singularity and for all angular momenta. The solution is a finite series of square integrable functions written in terms of the Bessel polynomial.
The O(N) invariant quartic anharmonic oscillator is shown to be exactly solvable if the interaction parameter satisfies special conditions. The problem is directly related to that of a quantum double well anharmonic oscillator in an external field. A finite dimensional matrix equation for the problem is constructed explicitly, along with analytical expressions for some excited states in the system. The corresponding Niven equations for determining the polynomial solutions for the problem are given.
In this paper, a quantum mechanical Green's function $G_{qo}(y_b,t_b;$ $y_a,t_a)$ for the quartic oscillator is presented. This result is built upon two previous papers: first [1], detailing the linearization of the quartic oscillator $(qo)$ to the harmonic oscillator $(ho)$, second [2], the integration of the classical action function for the quartic oscillator. Here an equivalent form for the quartic oscillator action function $S_{qo}(y_b,t_b;$ $y_a,t_a)$ in terms of harmonic oscillator variables is derived in order to facilitate the derivation of the quartic oscillator Green's Function ampl…
In this paper, we derive an explicit form in terms of end-point data in space-time for the classical action, i.e. integration of the Langrangian along an extremal, for the nonlinear quartic oscillator evaulated on extremals.
In this paper, we present an explicit form in terms of end-point data for the classical action $S_{2n}$ evaluated on extremals satisfying the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for each member of a hierarchy of classical non-relativistic oscillators characterized by even power potentials (i.e., attractive potentials $V_{2n}(y_{2n})={\frac{1}{2n}}k_{2n}y_{2n}^{2n}(t)|_{n{\geq}1}$). The nonlinear quartic oscillator corresponds to $n=2$ while the harmonic oscillator corresponds to $n=1$.
We introduce the most general quartic Poisson algebra generated by a second and a fourth order integral of motion of a 2D superintegrable classical system. We obtain the corresponding quartic (associative) algebra for the quantum analog and we extend Daskaloyannis' construction in obtained in context of quadratic algebras and we obtain the realizations as deformed oscillator algebras for this quartic algebra. We obtain the Casimir operator and discuss how these realizations allow to obtain the finite dimensional unitary irreductible representations of quartic algebras and obtain algebraically …
To lowest order of perturbation theory we show that an equivalence can be established between a $\cal PT$-symmetric generalized quartic anharmonic oscillator model and a Hermitian position-dependent mass Hamiltonian $h$. An important feature of $h$ is that it reveals a domain of couplings where the quartic potential could be attractive, vanishing or repulsive. We also determine the associated physical quantities.
The symmetrized quartic polynomial oscillator is shown to admit an sl(2,$\R$) algebraization. Some simple quasi-exactly solvable (QES) solutions are exhibited. A new symmetrized sextic polynomial oscillator is introduced and proved to be QES by explicitly deriving some exact, closed-form solutions by resorting to the functional Bethe ansatz method. Such polynomial oscillators include two categories of QES potentials: the first one containing the well-known analytic sextic potentials as a subset, and the second one of novel potentials with no counterpart in such a class.
Two quantum quartic anharmonic many-body oscillators are introduced. One of them is the celebrated Calogero model (rational $A_n$ model) modified by quartic anharmonic two-body interactions which support the same symmetry as the Calogero model. Another model is the three-body Wolfes model (rational $G_2$ model) with quartic anharmonic interaction added which has the same symmetry as the Wolfes model. Both models are studied in the framework of algebraic perturbation theory and by the variational method.
We use the Hellman-Feynman (HF) and Hypervirial (HV) theorems, to calculate the perturbative coefficients of the eigenenergies formal series, in the case of the Coulomb potential with a radial linear term and the radial quartic anharmonic oscillator potential. This calculation method, contrary to the usual Rayleigh-Schrodinger Perturbation Theory (RSPT), does not require the calculation of eigenfunctions coefficients. This method is a fast and efficient tool for the calculation of large order eigenenergies coefficients.
The set of world lines for the non-relativistic quartic oscillator satisfying Newton's equation of motion for all space and time in 1-1 dimensions with no constraints other than the "spring" restoring force is shown to be equivalent (1-1-onto) to the corresponding set for the harmonic oscillator. This is established via an energy preserving invertible linearization map which consists of an explicit nonlinear algebraic deformation of coordinates and a nonlinear deformation of time coordinates involving a quadrature. In the context stated, the map also explicitly solves Newton's equation for the…
In our previous paper I (del Valle--Turbiner, Int. J. Mod. Phys. A34, 1950143, 2019) it was developed the formalism to study the general $D$-dimensional radial anharmonic oscillator with potential $V(r)= \frac{1}{g^2}\,\hat{V}(gr)$. It was based on the Perturbation Theory (PT) in powers of $g$ (weak coupling regime) and in inverse, fractional powers of $g$ (strong coupling regime) in both $r$-space and in $(gr)$-space, respectively. As the result it was introduced - the Approximant - a locally-accurate uniform compact approximation of a wave function. If taken as a trial function in variationa…
In a previous paper a formalism to analyze the dynamical evolution of classical and quantum probability distributions in terms of their moments was presented. Here the application of this formalism to the system of a particle moving on a potential is considered in order to derive physical implications about the classical limit of a quantum system. The complete set of harmonic potentials is considered, which includes the particle under a uniform force, as well as the harmonic and the inverse harmonic oscillators. In addition, as an example of anharmonic system, the pure quartic oscillator is an…
It is shown that fundamental solutions $K^σ(x,y;t)=\langle x|e^{-i H^σt}|y\rangle$ of the non-stationary Schrödinger equation (Green functions, or propagators) for the rational extensions of the Harmonic oscillator $H^σ=H_{\rm osc}+ΔV^σ$ are expressed in terms of elementary functions only. An algorithm to calculate explicitly $K_σ$ for an arbitrary $σ\in \mathbb{N}$ is given, compact expressions for $K^{\{1,2\}}$ and $K^{\{2,3\}}$ are presented. A generalization of the Mehler's formula to the case of exceptional Hermite polynomials is given.
We consider the Schrodinger operator on the real line with even quartic potential and study analytic continuation of eigenvalues, as functions of the coefficient of the potential. We prove several properties of this analytic continuation conjectured by Bender, Wu, Loeffel and Martin. 1. All eigenvalues are given by branches of two multi-valued analytic functions, one for even eigenfunctions and one for odd ones. 2. The only singularities of these multi-valued functions in the complex plane are algebraic ramification points, and there are only finitely many singularities over each compact subse…
The quantum propagator and characteristic equation in the presence of a chain of $δ$-potentials are obtained in the rectangular, cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems. The simplicity and efficiency of the method is illustrated via examples. As an application, the characteristic equation of a quantum harmonic oscillator confined to an infinite box is obtained. The roots of the characteristic equation, determining the energy eigenvalues of the restricted oscillator, are calculated approximately and compared with the existing numerical data.
We consider the Schrödinger operator on the real line with an even quartic potential. Our main result is a product formula of the type $ψ_k(x)ψ_k(y) = \int_{\mathbb{R}} ψ_k(z)\mathcal{K}(x,y,z)dz$ for its eigenfunctions $ψ_k$. The kernel function $\mathcal{K}$ is given explicitly in terms of the Airy function $\mathrm{Ai}(x)$, and is positive for appropriate parameter values. As an application, we obtain a particular asymptotic expansion of the eigenfunctions $ψ_k$.
An explicit solution of the spectral problem of the non-local Schrödinger operator obtained as the sum of the square root of the Laplacian and a quartic potential in one dimension is presented. The eigenvalues are obtained as zeroes of special functions related to the fourth order Airy function, and closed formulae for the Fourier transform of the eigenfunctions are derived. These representations allow to derive further spectral propertiessuch as estimates of spectral gaps, heat trace and the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues, as well as a detailed analysis of the eigenfunctions. A subtle…
We present an analytical calculation of periodic orbits in the homogeneous quartic oscillator potential. Exploiting the properties of the periodic Lam{é} functions that describe the orbits bifurcated from the fundamental linear orbit in the vicinity of the bifurcation points, we use perturbation theory to obtain their evolution away from the bifurcation points. As an application, we derive an analytical semiclassical trace formula for the density of states in the separable case, using a uniform approximation for the pitchfork bifurcations occurring there, which allows for full semiclassical qu…
In an earlier paper it was argued that the conventional double-scaling limit of an O(N)-symmetric quartic quantum field theory is inconsistent because the critical coupling constant is negative and thus the integral representing the partition function of the critical theory does not exist. In this earlier paper it was shown that for an O(N)-symmetric quantum field theory in zero-dimensional spacetime one can avoid this difficulty if one replaces the original quartic theory by its PT-symmetric analog. In the current paper an O(N)-symmetric quartic quantum field theory in one-dimensional spaceti…
We will derive a rigorous real time propagator for the Non-relativistic Quantum Mechanic $L^2$ transition probability amplitude and for the Non-relativistic wave function. The propagator will be explicitly given in terms of the time evolution operator. The derivation will be for all self-adjoint nonvector potential Hamiltonians. For systems with potential that carries at most a finite number of singularity and discontinuities, we will show that our propagator can be written in the form of a rigorous real time, time sliced Feynman path integral via improper Riemann integrals. We will also deriv…
We have given a straightforward method to solve the problem of noncentral anharmonic oscillator in three dimensions. The relative propagator is presented by means of path integrals in spherical coordinates. By making an adequate change of time we were able to separate the angular motion from the radial one. The relative propagator is then exactly calculated. The energy spectrum and the corresponding wave functions are obtained.
The Dirac delta function and the Feynman propagator of the harmonic oscillator are found by a simple calculation using Fock Bargmann space and the generating function of the harmonic oscillator. With help of the Schwinger generating function of Wigner's D-matrix elements we derive the generating function of spherical harmonics, the quadratic transformations and the generating functions of: the characters of SU (2), Legendre and Gegenbauer polynomials. We also deduce the van der Wearden invariant of 3-j symbols of SU (2). Using the Fock Bargmann space and its complex conjugate we find the integ…
Below we study theoretically and numerically the asymptotics of the algebraic part of the spectrum for the quasi-exactly solvable sextic potential, its level crossing points, and its monodromy in the complex plane of its parameter. We also discuss connection between the quasi-exactly solvable sextic and the classical quartic potential.
In this paper we provide the representation of the symplectic group $Sp(2n, \mathbb{R})$ in polymer quantum mechanics. We derive the propagator of the polymer free particle and the polymer harmonic oscillator without considering a polymer scale. The polymer scale is then introduced to reconcile our results with those expressions for the polymer free particle. The propagator for the polymer harmonic oscillator implies non-unitary evolution.
We present a strong coupling expansion that permits to develop analysis of quantum field theory in the infrared limit. Application to a quartic massless scalar field gives a massive spectrum and the propagator in this regime. We extend the approach to a pure Yang-Mills theory obtaining analogous results. The gluon propagator is compared satisfactorily with lattice results and similarly for the spectrum. Comparison with experimental low energy spectrum of QCD supports the view that $σ$ resonance is indeed a glueball. The gluon propagator we obtained is finally used to formulate a low energy Lag…
The propagators (fundamental solutions) of the heat and Schrödinger's equations on the half-line with a combined harmonic oscillator and inverse-square potential calculated in the recent paper [{\em J. Math. Phys.} {\bf 59}, 051507 (2018)] using Laplace's method are demonstrated to be obtainable alternatively within the framework of symmetry group methods discussed in a series of two papers in the same journal.
A new scheme of approximation in quantum theory is proposed which is potentially applicable to arbtrary interacting systems. The method consists in in approximating the original Hamiltonian by one corresponding to a suitable exactly solvable system (with interaction) such that the "quantum average" of both are equal, thus forcing self-consistency.The method transcends the limitations of the variational method and the perturbation theory. The results are systematically improvable by the construction of a improved perturbation theory (IPT) which automatically satisfies the condition of convergenc…
We consider a particle represented by an anharmonic oscillator, coupled to an environment (a field) modeled by an ensemble of anharmonic oscillators, the whole system being confined in a cavity of diameter $L$. Up to the first perturbative order in the quartic interaction (interaction parameter $λ$), we use the formalism of {\it dressed} states introduced in previous publications, to obtain for a large cavity explicit $λ$-dependent formulas for the particle radiation process. These formulas are obtained in terms of the corresponding exact expressions for the linear case. We conclude for the en…
We study complexified Harmonic Oscillator with a position-dependent mass, termed as Complex Exotic Oscillator (CEO). The complexification induces a gauge invariance [19,11]. The role of PT -symmetry is discussed from the perspective of classical trajectories of CEO for real energy. Some trajectories of CEO are similar to those for the particle in a quartic potential in the complex domain [10, 32].

We construct a time-dependent double well potential as an exact spectral equivalent to the explicitly time-dependent negative quartic oscillator with a time-dependent mass term. Defining the unstable anharmonic oscillator Hamiltonian on a contour in the lower-half complex plane, the resulting time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is first mapped by an exact solution of the time-dependent Dyson equation to a time-dependent Hermitian Hamiltonian defined on the real axis. When unitary transformed, scaled and Fourier transformed we obtain a time-dependent double well potential bounded from belo…
We examine some nontrivial consequences that emerge from interpreting a position-dependent mass (PDM) driven Duffing oscillator in the presence of a quartic potential. The propagation dynamics is studied numerically and sensi- tivity to the PDM-index is noted. Remarkable transitions from a limit cycle to chaos through period doubling and from a chaotic to a regular motion through intermediate periodic and chaotic routes are demonstrated.
A certain notion of canonical equivalence in quantum mechanics is proposed. It is used to relate quantal systems with discrete ones. Discrete systems canonically equivalent to the celebrated harmonic oscillator as well as the quartic and the quasi-exactly-solvable anharmonic oscillators are found. They can be viewed as a translation-covariant discretization of the (an)harmonic oscillator preserving isospectrality. The notion of the $q-$deformation of the canonical equivalence leading to a dilatation-covariant discretization preserving polynomiality of eigenfunctions is also presented.
The classical and quantum formalism for a p-adic and adelic harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frequency is developed, and general formulae for main theoretical quantities are obtained. In particular, the p-adic propagator is calculated, and the existence of a simple vacuum state as well as adelic quantum dynamics is shown. Space discreteness and p-adic quantum-mechanical phase are noted.
We study eigenfunctions of Schrodinger operators -y"+Py on the real line with zero boundary conditions, whose potentials P are real even polynomials with positive leading coefficients. For quartic potentials we prove that all zeros of all eigenfunctions belong to the union of the real and imaginary axes. Similar result holds for sextic potentials and their eigenfunctions with finitely many complex zeros. As a byproduct we obtain a complete classification of such eigenfunctions of sextic potentials.
We construct an explicit solution of the Cauchy initial value problem for the time-dependent Schroedinger equation for a charged particle with a spin moving in a uniform magnetic field and a perpendicular electric field varying with time. The corresponding Green function (propagator) is given in terms of elementary functions and certain integrals of the fields with a characteristic function, which should be found as an analytic or numerical solution of the equation of motion for the classical oscillator with a time-dependent frequency. We discuss a particular solution of a related nonlinear Sc…
The framework Doplicher-Fredenhagen-Roberts (DFR) of a noncommutative (NC) space-time is considered as a alternative approach to study the NC space-time of the early Universe. In this formalism, the parameter of noncommutative $θ^{μν}$ is promoted to a coordinate of the space-time, and consequently, we are describing a field theory in a space-time with extra-dimension. Consequently, there is a canonical momentum associated to this new coordinate in which the effects of a new physics can emerge in the propagation of the fields along the extra-dimension. The Fourier space of this framework is au…
We consider Schrödinger equations with variable coefficients and the harmonic potential. We suppose the perturbation is short-range type in the sense of [Nakamura 2004]. We characterize the wave front set of the solutions to the equation in terms of the classical scattering data and the propagator of the unperturbed harmonic oscillator. In particular, we give a "recurrence of singularities" type theorem for the propagation of the period $t=π$.
We prove that the Schrödinger equation for N number of particles in the time dependent electro-magnetic field generates a unique unitary propagator on the state space under the condition that the field is smooth and moderately but almost critically increases at the spatial infinity such that propagator for every single particle in the field enjoys the time local Strichartz estimates and that the time dependent inter-particle potentials are almost critically singular for Hamiltonians to have a unique selfadjoint realization at every fixed time. We also show that the domain of definition of the …
The isotropic harmonic oscillator in dimension 3 separates in several different coordinate systems. Separating in a particular coordinate system defines a system of three commuting operators, one of which is the Hamiltonian. We show that the joint spectrum of the Hamilton operator, the $z$ component of the angular momentum, and a quartic integral obtained from separation in prolate spheroidal coordinates has quantum monodromy for sufficiently large energies. This means that one cannot globally assign quantum numbers to the joint spectrum. The effect can be classically explained by showing that…
We discuss the form of the propagator $U(t)$ for the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on an asyptotically Euclidean, or, more generally, asymptotically conic, manifold with no trapped geodesics. In the asymptotically Euclidean case, if $χ\in \mathcal{C}_0^\infty$, and with $\mathcal{F}$ denoting Fourier transform, $\mathcal{F}\circ e^{-ir^2/2t} U(t) χ$ is a Fourier integral operator for $t\neq 0.$ The canonical relation of this operator is a ``sojourn relation'' associated to the long-time geodesic flow. This description of the propagator follows from its more precise characterization as a …
We give a class of exact solutions of quartic scalar field theories. These solutions prove to be interesting as are characterized by the production of mass contributions arising from the nonlinear terms while maintaining a wave-like behavior. So, a quartic massless equation has a nonlinear wave solution with a dispersion relation of a massive wave and a quartic scalar theory gets its mass term renormalized in the dispersion relation through a term depending on the coupling and an integration constant. When spontaneous breaking of symmetry is considered, such wave-like solutions show how a mass…
