The Dirac delta function and the Feynman propagator of the harmonic oscillator are found by a simple calculation using Fock Bargmann space and the generating function of the harmonic oscillator. With help of the Schwinger generating function of Wigner's D-matrix elements we derive the generating function of spherical harmonics, the quadratic transformations and the generating functions of: the characters of SU (2), Legendre and Gegenbauer polynomials. We also deduce the van der Wearden invariant of 3-j symbols of SU (2). Using the Fock Bargmann space and its complex conjugate we find the integral representations of 3j symbols, function of the series, and from the properties of we deduce a set of generalized hypergeometric functions of SU (2) and from Euler's identity we find Regge symmetry. We find also the integral representation of the 6j symbols. We find the generating function and a new expression of the 3j symbols for SU (3) multiplicity free. Our formula of SU (3) is a product of a constant, 3j symbols of SU (2) by . The calculations in this work require only the Gauss integral, well known to undergraduates.
In this paper, we correct an inaccurate result of previous works on the Feynman propagator in position space of a free Dirac field in (3+1)-dimensional spacetime, and we derive the generalized analytic formulas of both the scalar Feynman propagator and the spinor Feynman propagator in position space in arbitrary (D+1)-dimensional spacetime, and we further find a recurrence relation among the spinor Feynman propagator in (D+1)-dimensional spacetime and the scalar Feynman propagators in (D+1)-, (D-1)- and (D+3)-dimensional spacetimes.
We consider the Klein-Gordon equation on a static spacetime and minimally coupled to a static electromagnetic potential. We show that it is essentially self-adjoint on $C_{\mathrm{c}}^\infty$. We discuss various distinguished inverses and bisolutions of the Klein-Gordon operator, focusing on the so-called Feynman propagator. We show that the Feynman propagator can be considered the boundary value of the resolvent of the Klein-Gordon operator, in the spirit of the limiting absorption principle known from the theory of Schrödinger operators. We also show that the Feynman propagator is the limit …
We will derive a rigorous real time propagator for the Non-relativistic Quantum Mechanic $L^2$ transition probability amplitude and for the Non-relativistic wave function. The propagator will be explicitly given in terms of the time evolution operator. The derivation will be for all self-adjoint nonvector potential Hamiltonians. For systems with potential that carries at most a finite number of singularity and discontinuities, we will show that our propagator can be written in the form of a rigorous real time, time sliced Feynman path integral via improper Riemann integrals. We will also deriv…
A novel derivation of Feynman's sum-over-histories construction of the quantum propagator using the groupoidal description of Schwinger picture of Quantum Mechanics is presented. It is shown that such construction corresponds to the GNS representation of a natural family of states called Dirac-Feynman-Schwinger (DFS) states. Such states are obtained from a q-Lagrangian function $\ell$ on the groupoid of configurations of the system. The groupoid of histories of the system is constructed and the q-Lagrangian $\ell$ allow to define a DFS state on the algebra of the groupoid. The particular insta…
We consider the massive Klein-Gordon equation on short-range asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes. Extending our results in [GW1], we show that the Klein-Gordon operator with Feynman type boundary conditions at infinite times is invertible and that its inverse, called the Feynman inverse, satisfies the microlocal conditions of Feynman parametrices in the sense of Duistermaat and Hörmander. This supplements the recent work of Vasy with more explicit techniques.
Recently quantum walks have been considered as a possible fundamental description of the dynamics of relativistic quantum fields. Within this scenario we derive the analytical solution of the Weyl walk in 2+1 dimensions. We present a discrete path-integral formulation of the Feynman propagator based on the binary encoding of paths on the lattice. The derivation exploits a special feature of the Weyl walk, that occurs also in other dimensions, that is closure under multiplication of the set of the walk transition matrices. This result opens the perspective of a similar solution in the 3+1 case.
This study shows how Aronszajn's theory of reproducing kernels can be of use for the construction the Hilbert spaces of quantum theory. We show that the Feynman propagator is an example of a reproducing kernel under a boundedness condition. To every Lagrangian thus corresponds a Hilbert space that does not need to be postulated \emph{a priori}. For the free non-relativistic particle, we justify mathematically the concept of space-time granularity. Reproducing kernels allow for a functional, rather than distributional, description of the Hilbert spaces of quantum theory, including the Fock spac…
We consider functional Schrödinger equations associated with a wide class of Hamiltonians in all Fock representations of the bosonic canonical commutation relations, in particular the Cook-Fock, Friedrichs-Fock, and Bargmann-Fock models. An infinite-dimensional symbolic calculus allows us to prove the convergence of the corresponding Hamiltonian Feynman integrals for propagators of coherent states.
By appeal to Distribution Theory we discuss in rigorous fashion, without appealing to {\bf any conjecture} (as usually done by other authors), the boundary-bulk propagators for the scalar field, both in the non-massive and massive cases. These calculations, new in the literature as far as we know, are carried out in two instances: (i) when the boundary is a Euclidean space and (ii) when it is of Minkowskian nature. In this last case we compute also three propagators: Feynman's, Anti-Feynman's, and Wheeler's (half advanced plus half retarded). For an operator corresponding to scalar field we ob…
In this paper, we shall show that the limiting absorption principle for the wave operator on the asymptotically Minkowski spacetime. This problem was previously considered by [A. Vasy, J. Spect. Theory, 10,439-461 , (2020)]. Here, we employ a more transparent tool, the Mourre theory and removes an additional condition which is imposed in his paper. Moreover, we also prove that the anti-Feynman propagator defined by Gérard and Wrochna coincides with the outgoing resolvent.
In the Feynman formalism of quantum mechanics one encounters a postulate, namely, that the propagator in an infinitesimal time-interval is the classical wave function. This postulate, which was later studied thoroughly by Holland, was recently highlighted by using the improved Makri-Miller propagator. The present note, whose conclusion is in agreement with that recent achievement, demonstrates that the Heisenberg picture of quantum mechanics invariably includes the Feynman postulate and is able to yield a proof for it. In other words, by starting out from the Heisenberg picture, it is proved t…
We consider the massive Klein-Gordon equation on asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes, in the sense that the manifold is $R^{1+d}$ and the metric approaches that of Minkowski space at infinity in a short-range way (jointly in time and space variables). In this setup we define Feynman and anti-Feynman scattering data and prove the Fredholm property of the Klein-Gordon operator with the associated Atiyah-Patodi-Singer type boundary conditions at infinite times. We then construct a parametrix (with compact remainder terms) for the Fredholm problem and prove that it is also a Feynman parametrix in …
Trying to interpret B. Zilber's project on model theory of quantum mechanics we study a way of building limit models from finite-dimensional approximations. Our point of view is that of metric model theory, and we develop a method of taking ultraproducts of unbounded operators. We first calculate the Feynman propagator for the free particle as defined by physicists as an inner product $\langle x_{0}| K^{t}| x_{1}\rangle $ of the eigenvector $| x_{0}\rangle $ of the position operator with eigenvalue $x_{0}$ and $K^{t}(| x_{1}\rangle )$, where $K^{t}$ is the time evolution operator. However, due…
We consider the two-loop massless propagator-type Feynman diagram with an arbitrary (non-integer) index on the central line. We analytically prove the equality of the two well-known results existing in the literature which express this diagram in terms of ${}_3F_2$-hypergeometric functions of argument $-1$ and $1$, respectively. We also derive new representations for this diagram which may be of importance in practical calculations.
We consider the massive Klein-Gordon equation on a class of asymptotically static spacetimes. We prove the existence and Hadamard property of the in and out states constructed by scattering theory methods. Assuming in addition that the metric approaches that of Minkowski space at infinity in a short-range way, jointly in time and space variables, we define Feynman scattering data and prove the Fredholm property of the Klein-Gordon operator with the associated Atiyah-Patodi-Singer boundary conditions. We then construct a parametrix (with compact remainder terms) for the Fredholm problem and pro…
The Feynman integral for the Schroedinger propagator is constructed as a generalized function of white noise, for a linear space of potentials spanned by measures and Laplace transforms of measures, i.e., locally singular as well as rapidly growing at infinity. Remarkably, all these propagators admit a perturbation expansion.
We review some basic notions and results of White Noise Analysis that are used in the construction of the Feynman integrand as a generalized White Noise functional. After sketching this construction for a large class of potentials we show that the resulting Feynman integrals solve the Schroedinger equation.
Having in mind applications to gravitational wave theory (in connection with the radiation reaction problem), stochastic semiclassical gravity (in connection with the regularization of the noise kernel) and quantum field theory in higher-dimensional curved spacetime (in connection with the Hadamard regularization of the stress-energy tensor), we improve the DeWitt-Schwinger and Hadamard representations of the Feynman propagator of a massive scalar field theory defined on an arbitrary gravitational background by deriving higher-order terms for the covariant Taylor series expansions of the geome…
We show that, for a class of systems described by a Lagrangian L(x,\dot{x},t) = 1/2\dot{x}^{2} - V(x,t) the propagator can be reduced via Noether's Theorem to a standard path integral multiplied by a phase factor. Using Henstock's integration technique, this path integral is given a firm mathematical basis. Finally, we recast the propagator as an evolutionary semigroup.
Recently the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) approach has been extended to loop level, but the resulting loop integrand has propagators that are linear in the loop momentum unlike Feynman's. In this note we present a new technique that directly produces quadratic propagators identical to Feynman's from the CHY approach. This paper focuses on $Φ^3$ theory but extensions to others theories are briefly discussed. In addition, our proposal has an interesting geometric meaning, we can interpret this new formula as a unitary cut on a higher genus Riemann surface.
The Dirac's formalism for constrained systems is applied to the analysis of time-dependent Hamiltonians in the extended phase space. We show that the Lewis invariant is a reparametrization invariant and we calculate the Feynman propagator using the extended phase description. We show that the quantum phase of the Feynman propagator is given by the boundary term of the canonical transformation of the extended phase space.

We describe an analytic continuation of the Euclidean Grosse-Wulkenhaar and LSZ models which defines a one-parameter family of duality covariant noncommutative field theories interpolating between Euclidean and Minkowski space versions of these models, and provides an alternative regularization to the usual Feynman prescription. This regularization allows for a matrix model representation of the field theories in terms of a complex generalization of the usual basis of Landau wavefunctions. The corresponding propagators are calculated and identified with the Feynman propagators of the field the…
We outline a new approach to calculating the quantum mechanical propagator in the presence of geometrically non-trivial Dirichlet boundary conditions based upon a generalisation of an integral transform of the propagator studied in previous work (the so-called ``hit function''), and a convergent sequence of Padé approximants. In this paper the generalised hit function is defined as a many-point propagator and we describe its relation to the sum over trajectories in the Feynman path integral. We then show how it can be used to calculate the Feynman propagator. We calculate analytically all such…
We study the half advanced and half retarded Wheeler Green function and its relation to Feynman propagators. First for massless equation. Then, for Klein-Gordon equations with arbitrary mass parameters; real, imaginary or complex. In all cases the Wheeler propagator lacks an on-shell free propagation. The Wheeler function has support inside the light-cone (whatever the mass). The associated vacuum is symmetric with respect to annihilation and creation operators.
We study the convergence in $L^2$ of the time slicing approximation of Feynman path integrals under low regularity assumptions on the potential. Inspired by the custom in Physics and Chemistry, the approximate propagators considered here arise from a series expansion of the action. The results are ultimately based on function spaces, tools and strategies which are typical of Harmonic and Time-frequency analysis.
The computational technique of $N$-fold Mellin-Barnes (MB) integrals, presented in a companion paper by the same authors, is used to derive sets of series representations of the massive one-loop conformal 3-point Feynman integral in various configurations. This shows the great simplicity and efficiency of the method in nonresonant cases (generic propagator powers) as well as some of its subtleties in the resonant ones (for unit propagator powers). We confirm certain results in the physics and mathematics literature and provide many new results, some of them dealing with the more general massiv…
In this note we study the properties of a sequence of approximate propagators for the Schrödinger equation, in the spirit of Feynman's path integrals. Precisely, we consider Hamiltonian operators arising as the Weyl quantization of a quadratic form in phase space, plus a bounded potential perturbation in the form of a pseudodifferential operator with a rough symbol. It is known that the corresponding Schrödinger propagator is a generalized metaplectic operator. This naturally motivates the introduction of a manageable time slicing approximation consisting of operators of the same type. By mean…
We consider the wave equation on asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes and the Klein-Gordon equation on even asymptotically de Sitter spaces. In both cases we show that the extreme difference of propagators (i.e. retarded propagator minus advanced, or Feynman minus anti-Feynman), defined as Fredholm inverses, induces a symplectic form on the space of solutions with wave front set confined to the radial sets. Furthermore, we construct isomorphisms between the solution spaces and symplectic spaces of asymptotic data. As an application of this result we obtain distinguished Hadamard two-point funct…
The off-shell massless six-point double box and hexagon conformal Feynman integrals with generic propagator powers are expressed in terms of linear combinations of multiple hypergeometric series of the generalized Horn type. These results are derived from 9-fold Mellin-Barnes representations obtained from their dual conformal Feynman parameter representations. The individual terms in the presented expressions satisfy the differential equation that relates the double box in $D$ dimensions to the hexagon in $D+2$ dimensions.
We propose a geometric approach to construct the Cauchy evolution operator for the Lorentzian Dirac operator on Cauchy-compact globally hyperbolic 4-manifolds. We realise the Cauchy evolution operator as the sum of two invariantly defined oscillatory integrals -- the positive and negative Dirac propagators -- global in space and in time, with distinguished complex-valued geometric phase functions. As applications, we relate the Cauchy evolution operators with the Feynman propagator and construct Cauchy surfaces covariances of quasifree Hadamard states.
Two-loop massive Feynman integrals for $ϕ^4$ field-theoretical model with long-range correlated disorder are considered. Massive integrals for the vertex function $Γ^{(4)}$ including two or three massless propagators for generic space dimension and for any value of the correlation parameter are evaluated analytically applying Mellin-Barnes method as well as familiar representation for one-loop integrals. Obtained expressions are presented in the form of hypergeometric functions.
