By appeal to Distribution Theory we discuss in rigorous fashion, without appealing to {\bf any conjecture} (as usually done by other authors), the boundary-bulk propagators for the scalar field, both in the non-massive and massive cases. These calculations, new in the literature as far as we know, are carried out in two instances: (i) when the boundary is a Euclidean space and (ii) when it is of Minkowskian nature. In this last case we compute also three propagators: Feynman's, Anti-Feynman's, and Wheeler's (half advanced plus half retarded). For an operator corresponding to scalar field we obtain the two points correlations functions in the three instances above mentioned
We study the half advanced and half retarded Wheeler Green function and its relation to Feynman propagators. First for massless equation. Then, for Klein-Gordon equations with arbitrary mass parameters; real, imaginary or complex. In all cases the Wheeler propagator lacks an on-shell free propagation. The Wheeler function has support inside the light-cone (whatever the mass). The associated vacuum is symmetric with respect to annihilation and creation operators.
We present an approximate model of Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics for which uniqueness of solutions is proved. It is simple enough to be instructive but close enough to Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics such that we can discuss its natural type of initial data, constants of motion and stable orbits with regard to Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics.
We study the equations of Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics which is an action-at-a-distance theory about world-lines of charges that interact through their corresponding advanced and retarded Liénard-Wiechert field terms. The equations are non-linear, neutral, and involve time-like advanced as well as retarded arguments of unbounded delay. Using a reformulation in terms of Maxwell-Lorentz electrodynamics without self-interaction, which we have introduced in a preceding work, we are able to establish the existence of conditional solutions. These are solutions that solve the Wheeler-Feynman equat…

The Wheeler function has support inside the light-cone (whatever the mass). The associated vacuum is symmetric with respect to annihilation and creation operators. The problem of 1-dimensional ultra-relativistic scattering of 2 identical charged particles in classical electrodynamics with retarded and advanced interactions is investigated.
The search for purely virtual quanta has attracted interest in the past. We consider various proposals and compare them to the concept of fake particle, or "fakeon". In particular, the Feynman-Wheeler propagator, which amounts to using the Cauchy principal value inside Feynman diagrams, violates renormalizability, unitarity and stability, due to the coexistence of the prescriptions $\pm iε$. We contrast the Feynman, fakeon and Feynman-Wheeler prescriptions in ordinary as well as cut diagrams. The fakeon does not have the problems of the Feynman-Wheeler propagator and emerges as the correct con…
A supersymmetric formulation of the classical action of interacting charged and neutral fermions with arbitrary anomalous magnetic moment is considered. This formulation generalizes the known action for scalar charged particles investigated in papers by Fokker, Schwarzschild, Tetrode, Wheeler and Feynman. The superfield formulation of the electrodynamics of the Maxwell supermultiplet, constructed from the world coordinates of charged or neutral fermions is carried out basing on the proposed action.
We present a systematic expansion of all constraint equations in canonical quantum gravity up to the order of the inverse Planck mass squared. It is demonstrated that this method generates the conventional Feynman diagrammatic technique involving graviton loops and vertices. It also reveals explicitly the back reaction effects of quantized matter and graviton vacuum polarization. This provides an explicit correspondence between the frameworks of canonical and covariant quantum gravity in the semiclassical limit.
We consider the two-loop massless propagator-type Feynman diagram with an arbitrary (non-integer) index on the central line. We analytically prove the equality of the two well-known results existing in the literature which express this diagram in terms of ${}_3F_2$-hypergeometric functions of argument $-1$ and $1$, respectively. We also derive new representations for this diagram which may be of importance in practical calculations.
Having in mind applications to gravitational wave theory (in connection with the radiation reaction problem), stochastic semiclassical gravity (in connection with the regularization of the noise kernel) and quantum field theory in higher-dimensional curved spacetime (in connection with the Hadamard regularization of the stress-energy tensor), we improve the DeWitt-Schwinger and Hadamard representations of the Feynman propagator of a massive scalar field theory defined on an arbitrary gravitational background by deriving higher-order terms for the covariant Taylor series expansions of the geome…
We construct the retarded Green function and the Hadamard function in the Lorentzian (d+1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime for the Poincaré coordinate by performing the mode integration directly. We explore the structure of singularities for the position-space Feynman propagator derived from them. The boundary scaling limits of the bulk Feynman propagator yield the bulk-boundary propagator and the boundary conformal correlation function with an extra factor.
Recently the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) approach has been extended to loop level, but the resulting loop integrand has propagators that are linear in the loop momentum unlike Feynman's. In this note we present a new technique that directly produces quadratic propagators identical to Feynman's from the CHY approach. This paper focuses on $Φ^3$ theory but extensions to others theories are briefly discussed. In addition, our proposal has an interesting geometric meaning, we can interpret this new formula as a unitary cut on a higher genus Riemann surface.
Mainly on nano-scale, but maybe not exclusively, it can be imagined a spontaneous charge disjunction inside certain media due to the fluctuations, collisions, wall effects, radiation or/and other presently unknown interactions. The repulsive Casimir-Lifshitz force may be also a good candidate as a source of this kind of phenomenon. To cover this assumption mathematically an additional term should appear in the Maxwell equations. As a consequence of this term, similar Klein-Gordon equations with a negative mass term will be obtained for the electric and magnetic fields. These equations may have…
We describe an analytic continuation of the Euclidean Grosse-Wulkenhaar and LSZ models which defines a one-parameter family of duality covariant noncommutative field theories interpolating between Euclidean and Minkowski space versions of these models, and provides an alternative regularization to the usual Feynman prescription. This regularization allows for a matrix model representation of the field theories in terms of a complex generalization of the usual basis of Landau wavefunctions. The corresponding propagators are calculated and identified with the Feynman propagators of the field the…
The Feynman propagator for a free bosonic scalar field on the discrete spacetime of a causal set is presented. The formalism includes scalar field operators and a vacuum state which define a scalar quantum field theory on a causal set. This work can be viewed as a novel regularisation of quantum field theory based on a Lorentz invariant discretisation of spacetime.
We present three methods for calculating the Feynman propagator for the non-relativistic harmonic oscillator. The first method was employed by Schwinger a half a century ago, but has rarely been used in non-relativistic problems since. Also discussed is an algebraic method and a path integral method so that the reader can compare the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
We propose that the concept of multidimensional residues can be used to directly extracting the coefficients of scalar master integrals (with single propagators only) from one-loop Feynman integrals with generic power of propagators. Unlike the usual integration-by-parts (IBP) technique, where one has to solve iteratively a complicated set of equations to carry out the reduction and determine the coefficients of scalar master integrals, using multidimensional residues provides the possibility of directly extracting the coefficients of the master integrals. As the first application of this idea…
The direct interaction theory of electromagnetism, also known as Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics, is often misinterpreted and found unappealing because of its reference to the absorber and, more importantly, to the so-called absorber condition. Here we remark that the absorber condition is indeed questionable and presumably not relevant for the explanation of irreversible radiation phenomena in our universe. What is relevant and deserves further scrutiny is the emergent effective description of a test particle in an environment. We therefore rephrase what we consider the relevant calculation b…
It is shown that the usual expression for a Feynman diagram in terms of the Feynman propagator $Δ_F(x-y)$ can be replaced by an equivalent expression involving the positive-energy on-shell propagator $Δ^+(x-y)$, supplemented by appropriate functions associated with time-ordering. When this alternate way of expressing a Feynman diagram is Fourier transformed into momentum space, the momentum associated with each function $Δ^+(x-y)$ is on-shell, and is only conserved at each vertex if an energy is attributed to the contributions of the time-ordering functions. The resulting expression is analogo…
The Feynman propagator used in the conventional in-out formalism in quantum field theory is not a causal propagator as wave packets are propagated virtually instantaneously outside the causal region of the initial state. We formulate a causal in-out formalism in quantum field theory by making use of the Wheeler propagator, the time ordered commutator propagator, which is manifestly causal. Only free scalar field theories and their first quantization are considered. We identify the real Klein Gordon field itself as the wave function of a neutral spinless relativistic particle. Furthermore, we d…
A modification of the Fokker action is proposed, which allows one to formulate the covariant quantum theory of the charge system, in which the proper time of each particle serves as the evolution parameter and the particles themselves receive an additional quantum number - spin. The modification consists in adding to the Fokker action its variation generated by the infinitesimal shifts of the proper time parameters. As a result, the proper time parameters become observable at the quantum level.
A new topological field theory is constructed, which is characterized by cubic interactions similar to those of non-abelian Chern-Simons field theories, but still retains the simplicity of the abelian case. The perturbative expansion of this theory contains in fact only two connected Feynman diagrams, the propagator and a three vertex. Apart from the Gauss linking number, the Wilson loop amplitudes generate a further topological invariant, whose physical and mathematical meaning is investigated.
In order to use the Gaussian representation for propagators in Feynman amplitudes, a representation which is useful to relate string theory and field theory, one has to prove first that each $α$- parameter (where $α$ is the parameter associated to each propagator in the $α$-representation of the Feynman amplitudes) can be replaced by a constant instead of being integrated over and second, prove that this constant can be taken equal for all propagators of a given graph. The first proposition has been proven in one recent letter when the number of propagators is infinite. Here we prove the secon…
We extend our new approach for numeric evaluation of Feynman diagrams to integrals that include fermionic and vector propagators. In this initial discussion we begin by deriving the Sinc function representation for the propagators of spin-1/2 and spin-1 fields and exploring their properties. We show that the attributes of the spin-0 propagator which allowed us to derive the Sinc function representation for scalar field Feynman integrals are shared by fields with non-zero spin. We then investigate the application of the Sinc function representation to simple QED diagrams, including first order …
The Dimensional Regularization of Bollini and Giambiags (Phys. Lett. {\bf B 40}, 566 (1972), Il Nuovo Cim. {\bf B 12}, 20 (1972). Phys. Rev. {\bf D 53}, 5761 (1996)) can not be defined for all Schwartz Tempered Distributions Explicitly Lorentz Invariant (STDELI) ${\cal S}^{'}_L$. In this paper we overcome here such limitation and show that it can be generalized to all aforementioned STDELI and obtain a product in a ring with zero divisors. For this purpose, we resort to a formula obtained in [Int. J. of Theor. Phys. {\bf 43}, 1019 (2004)] and demonstrate the existence of the convolution (in Mi…
An analog of the S=1/2 Feynman-Dyson propagator is presented in the framework of the S=1 Weinberg theory. The basis for this construction is the concept of the Weinberg field as a system of four field functions differing by parity and by dual transformations. Next, we analyze the recent controversy in the definitions of the Feynman-Dyson propagator for the field operator containing the S=1/2 self/anti-self charge conjugate states in the papers by D. Ahluwalia et al. and by W. Rodrigues Jr. et al. The solution of this mathematical controversy is obvious. It is related to the necessary doubling …
We present a simplified and generalized derivation of the flavour-coherent propagators and Feynman rules for the fermionic kinetic theory based on coherent quasiparticle approximation (cQPA). The new formulation immediately reveals the composite nature of the cQPA Wightman function as a product of two spectral functions and an effective two-point interaction vertex, which contains all quantum statistical and coherence information. We extend our previous work to the case of nonzero dispersive self-energy, which leads to a broader range of applications. By this scheme, we derive flavoured kineti…
We analyze the algebra of Dirac observables of the relativistic particle in four space-time dimensions. We show that the position observables become non-commutative and the commutation relations lead to a structure very similar to the non-commutative geometry of Deformed Special Relativity (DSR). In this framework, it appears natural to consider the 4d relativistic particle as a five dimensional massless particle. We study its quantization in terms of wave functions on the 5d light cone. We introduce the corresponding five-dimensional action principle and analyze how it reproduces the physics …
The CPT-even gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension is composed of nineteen components comprised in the tensor $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}$, of \ which nine do not yield birefringence. In this work, we examine the Maxwell electrodynamics supplemented by these nine nonbirefringent CPT-even components in aspects related to the Feynman propagator and full consistency (stability, causality, unitarity). We adopt a prescription that parametrizes the nonbirefringent components in terms of a symmetric and traceless tensor, $K_{μν},$ and second parametrization that writes $K_{μν}$ in terms of two arbitrary f…
Topological data analysis is a rapidly developing area of data science where one tries to discover topological patterns in data sets to generate insight and knowledge discovery. In this project we use quantum walk algorithms to discover features of a data graph on which the walk takes place. This can be done faster on quantum computers where all paths can be explored using superposition. We begin with simple walks on a polygon and move up to graphs described by higher dimensional meshes. We use insight from the physics description of quantum walks defined in terms of probability amplitudes to …
We link the notion causality with the orientation of the 2-complex on which spin foam models are based. We show that all current spin foam models are orientation-independent, pointing out the mathematical structure behind this independence. Using the technology of evolution kernels for quantum fields/particles on Lie groups/homogeneous spaces, we construct a generalised version of spin foam models, introducing an extra proper time variable and prove that different ranges of integration for this variable lead to different classes of spin foam models: the usual ones, interpreted as the quantum g…
The computational technique of $N$-fold Mellin-Barnes (MB) integrals, presented in a companion paper by the same authors, is used to derive sets of series representations of the massive one-loop conformal 3-point Feynman integral in various configurations. This shows the great simplicity and efficiency of the method in nonresonant cases (generic propagator powers) as well as some of its subtleties in the resonant ones (for unit propagator powers). We confirm certain results in the physics and mathematics literature and provide many new results, some of them dealing with the more general massiv…
We consider the wave equation on asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes and the Klein-Gordon equation on even asymptotically de Sitter spaces. In both cases we show that the extreme difference of propagators (i.e. retarded propagator minus advanced, or Feynman minus anti-Feynman), defined as Fredholm inverses, induces a symplectic form on the space of solutions with wave front set confined to the radial sets. Furthermore, we construct isomorphisms between the solution spaces and symplectic spaces of asymptotic data. As an application of this result we obtain distinguished Hadamard two-point funct…
Starting from the Mellin-Barnes integral representation of a Feynman integral depending on set of kinematic variables $z_i$, we derive a system of partial differential equations w.r.t.\ new variables $x_j$, which parameterize the differentiable constraints $z_i=y_i(x_j)$. In our algorithm, the powers of propagators can be considered as arbitrary parameters. Our algorithm can also be used for the reduction of multiple hypergeometric sums to sums of lower dimension, finding special values and reduction equations of hypergeometric functions in a singular locus of continuous variables, or finding …
We show that the problem of solving recurrence relations for L-loop (R+1)-point Feynman integrals within the method of integration by parts is equivalent to the corresponding problem for (L+R)-loop vacuum or (L+R-1)-loop propagator-type integrals. Using this property we solve recurrence relations for two-loop massless vertex diagrams, with arbitrary numerators and integer powers of propagators in the case when two legs are on the light cone, by reducing the problem to the well-known solution of the corresponding recurrence relations for massless three-loop propagator diagrams with specific bou…
We outline a new approach to calculating the quantum mechanical propagator in the presence of geometrically non-trivial Dirichlet boundary conditions based upon a generalisation of an integral transform of the propagator studied in previous work (the so-called ``hit function''), and a convergent sequence of Padé approximants. In this paper the generalised hit function is defined as a many-point propagator and we describe its relation to the sum over trajectories in the Feynman path integral. We then show how it can be used to calculate the Feynman propagator. We calculate analytically all such…
We compute the Pauli-Jordan, Hadamard and Feynman propagators for the massive metrical perturbations on de Sitter space. They are expressed both in terms of mode sums and in invariant forms.
Recently there is an alternative reduction method proposed by Chen in [1,2]. In this paper, using the one-loop scalar integrals with propagators having higher power, we show the power of the improved version of Chen's new method in which we used some tricks to cancel the dimension shift and the terms we do not want. We present the explicit examples of bubble, triangle, box and pentagon with one propagators doubled. With these results, we have completed our previous computations in \cite{wang} with the missed tadpole coefficients.
In this paper, we will calculate the bosonic as well as fermionic propagators under classical homogeneous and constant magnetic and electric fields in a Euclidean space. For this, we will reassess the Ritus' method for calculating the Feynman propagator.
Manifest N=2 supersymmetric hypermultiplet mass terms can be introduced in the projective N=2 superspace formalism. In the case of complex hypermultiplets, where the gauge covariantized spinor derivatives have an explicit representation in terms of gauge prepotentials, it is possible to interpret such masses as vacuum expectation values of an Abelian vector multiplet. The duality transformation that relates the N=2 off-shell projective description of the hypermultiplet to the on-shell description involving two N=1 chiral superfields allows us to obtain the massive propagators of the N=1 comple…
We study the no gravity limit G_{N}-> 0 of the Ponzano-Regge amplitudes with massive particles and show that we recover in this limit Feynman graph amplitudes (with Hadamard propagator) expressed as an abelian spin foam model. We show how the G_{N} expansion of the Ponzano-Regge amplitudes can be resummed. This leads to the conclusion that the dynamics of quantum particles coupled to quantum 3d gravity can be expressed in terms of an effective new non commutative field theory which respects the principles of doubly special relativity. We discuss the construction of Lorentzian spin foam models …
Negative dimensional integration method (NDIM) is a technique which can be applied, with success, in usual covariant gauge calculations. We consider three two-loop diagrams: the scalar massless non-planar double-box with six propagators and the scalar pentabox in two cases, where six virtual particles have the same mass and in the case where all of them are massless. Our results are given in terms hypergeometric functions of Mandelstam variables and for arbitrary exponents of propagators and dimension $D$ as well.
We give the results for all the one-loop propagators, including finite parts, in the Coulomb gauge. In finite parts we find new non-rational functions in addition to the single logarithms of the Feynman gauge. Of course, the two gauges must agree for any gauge invariant function. We revise the manuscript hep-th/0311118v2 and Eur.Phys.J.C37, 307-313(2004) in accordance with the notation and correct Feynman rules for the Coulomb gauge in Minkowski space found in [16]. The high-energy behaviour of the proper two-point functions is added in Appendix C.
An analog of the $j=1/2$ Feynman-Dyson propagator is presented in the framework of the $j=1$ Weinberg's theory. The basis for this construction is the concept of the Weinberg field as a system of four field functions differing by parity and by dual transformations.
In order to popularize the so called Schwinger's method we reconsider the Feynman propagator of two non-relativistic systems: a charged particle in a uniform magnetic field and a charged harmonic oscillator in a uniform magnetic field. Instead of solving the Heisenberg equations for the position and the canonical momentum operators, ${\bf R}$ and ${\bf P}$, we apply this method by solving the Heisenberg equations for the gauge invariant operators ${\bf R}$ and $\mathversion{bold}$π$ = {\bf P}-e{\bf A}$, the latter being the mechanical momentum operator. In our procedure we avoid fixing the gau…
N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory exhibits a rather surprising duality of Wilson-loop vacuum expectation values and scattering amplitudes. In this paper, we investigate this correspondence at the diagram level. We find that one-loop triangles, one-loop boxes, and two-loop diagonal boxes can be cast as simple one- and two- parametric integrals over a single propagator in configuration space. We observe that the two-loop Wilson-loop "hard-diagram" corresponds to a four-loop hexagon Feynman diagram. Guided by the diagrammatic correspondence of the configuration-space propagator and loop Feynma…
We present a method for a recursive graphical construction of Feynman diagrams with their correct multiplicities in quantum electrodynamics. The method is first applied to find all diagrams contributing to the vacuum energy from which all n-point functions are derived by functional differentiation with respect to electron and photon propagators, and to the interaction. Basis for our construction is a functional differential equation obeyed by the vacuum energy when considered as a functional of the free propagators and the interaction. Our method does not employ external sources in contrast to…
We show that a notion of one-particle state and the corresponding vacuum state exists in general curved backgrounds for spin $\frac{1}{2}$ fields. A curved spacetime can be equipped with a coordinate system in which the metric component $g_{--}=0$. We separate the component of the left-handed massless Dirac field which is annihilated by the null vector $\partial_-$ and compute the corresponding Feynman propagator. We find that the propagating modes are localized on two dimensional subspaces and the Feynman propagator is similar to the Feynman propagator of chiral fermions in two dimensional Mi…
