Let $K$ be a complete discrete valuation field of characteristic $0$ with not necessarily perfect residue field of characteristic $p>0$. We define a Faltings extension of $\mathcal{O}_K$ over $\mathbb{Z}_p$, and we construct a Hodge-Tate filtration for abelian varieties over $K$ by generalizing Fontaine's construction in 1981, where he treated the perfect residue field case.
We prove a formula, which, given a principally polarized abelian variety $(A,λ)$ over the field of algebraic numbers, relates the stable Faltings height of $A$ with the Néron--Tate height of a symmetric theta divisor on $A$. Our formula completes earlier results due to Bost, Hindry, Autissier and Wagener. The local non-archimedean terms in our formula can be expressed as the tropical moments of the tropicalizations of $(A,λ)$.
The Hodge-Tate spectral sequence for a proper smooth variety over a p-adic field provides a framework for us to revisit Faltings' approach to p-adic Hodge theory and to fill in many details. The spectral sequence is obtained from the Cartan-Leray spectral sequence for the canonical projection from the Faltings topos to the étale topos of an integral model of the variety. Its abutment is computed by Faltings' main comparison theorem from which derive all comparison theorems between p-adic étale cohomology and other p-adic cohomologies, and its initial term is related to the sheaf of differentia…
We give in this note an overview of a recent work leading to a generalization of the Hodge-Tate spectral sequence to morphisms. The latter takes place in Faltings topos, but its construction requires the introduction of a relative variant of this topos which is the main novelty of our work.
One of the goals of this article is to describe the isomorphism between Lubin-Tate and Drinfeld towers at the level of their skeletons after taking quotient by $\GL_n (Ø_F)\times Ø_D^\times$ or $I\timesØ_D^\times$ where $Ø_D$ is the maximal order in the division algebra with invariant $\frac{1}{n}$ over $F$ and $I$ a Iwahori subgroup of $\GL_n$. We give applications to the theory of canonical subgroups on Lubin-Tate spaces, the description of spherical Hecke orbits in those spaces, fundamental domains for Hecke correspondences and the Gross-Hopkins period mapping. We also study in details the …

Faltings initiated in 2005 a p-adic analogue of the (complex) Simpson correspondence whose construction has been taken up by various authors, according to several approaches. Following the one we initiated previously, we present an overview of a new monograph developing new features of the p-adic Simpson correspondence, inspired by our construction of the relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. First, we address the connection to Hodge-Tate local systems. Second, we establish the functoriality of the p-adic Simpson correspondence by proper direct image. Along the way, we expand the scope of our…
For $C$ a complete algebraically closed extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$, we show that a one-dimensional $p$-divisible group $G/ \mathcal{O}_C$ can be defined over a complete discretely valued subfield $L \subset C$ with Hodge-Tate period ratios contained in $L$ if and only if $G$ has CM, if and only if the period ratios generate an extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ of degree equal to the height of the connected part of $G$. This is a $p$-adic analog of a classical transcendence result of Schneider which states that for $τ$ in the complex upper half plane, $τ$ and $j(τ)$ are simultaneously algebraic over…
This is loosely a continuation of the author's previous paper arXiv:1802.09496. In the first part, given a fibered variety, we pull back the Leray filtration to the Chow group, and use this to give some criteria for the Hodge and Tate conjectures to hold for such varieties. In the second part, we show that the Hodge conjecture holds for a good desingularization of a self fibre product of a non-isotrivial elliptic surface under appropriate conditions. We also show that the Hodge and Tate conjectures hold for natural families of abelian varieties parameterized by certain Shimura curves. This use…
The family of all mixed Hodge structures on a given rational vector space $M_\mathbb{Q}$ with a fixed weight filtration $W_\cdot$ and a fixed associated graded Hodge structure $Gr^WM$ is naturally in a one to one correspondence with a complex affine space. We study the unipotent radical of the very general Mumford-Tate group of the family. We do this by using general Tannakian results which relate the unipotent radical of the fundamental group of an object in a filtered Tannakian category to the extension classes of the object coming from the filtration. Our main result shows that if $Gr^WM$ i…
Faltings' approach in $p$-adic Hodge theory can be schematically divided into two main steps: firstly, a local reduction of the computation of the $p$-adic étale cohomology of a smooth variety over a $p$-adic local field to a Galois cohomology computation and then, the establishment of a link between the latter and differential forms. These relations are organized through Faltings ringed topos whose definition relies on the choice of an integral model of the variety, and whose good properties depend on the (logarithmic) smoothness of this model. Scholze's generalization for rigid analytic vari…
We compute the rational homotopy groups of the $K(n)$-local sphere for all heights $n$ and all primes $p$, verifying a prediction that goes back to the pioneering work of Morava in the early 1970s. More precisely, we show that the inclusion of the Witt vectors into the Lubin-Tate ring induces a split injection on continuous stabilizer cohomology with torsion cokernel of bounded exponent, thereby proving Hopkins' chromatic splitting conjecture and the vanishing conjecture of Beaudry-Goerss-Henn rationally. The key ingredients are the equivalence between the Lubin-Tate tower and the Drinfeld tow…
Let $\cO_K$ be a complete discrete valuation ring of residue characteristic $p>0$, and $G$ be a finite flat group scheme over $\cO_K$ of order a power of $p$. We prove in this paper that the Abbes-Saito filtration of $G$ is bounded by a simple linear function of the degree of $G$. Assume $\cO_K$ has generic characteristic 0 and the residue field of $\cO_K$ is perfect. Fargues constructed the higher level canonical subgroups for a Barsotti-Tate group $\cG$ over $\cO_K$ which is "not too supersingular". As an application of our bound, we prove that the canonical subgroup of $\cG$ of level $n\geq…
In his 1982 paper, Ogus defined a class of cycles in the de Rham cohomology of smooth proper varieties over number fields. This notion is a crystalline analogue of $\ell$-adic Tate cycles. In the case of abelian varieties, this class includes all the Hodge cycles by the work of Deligne, Ogus, and Blasius. Ogus predicted that such cycles coincide with Hodge cycles for abelian varieties. In this paper, we confirm Ogus' prediction for some families of abelian varieties. These families include abelian varieties that have both prime dimension and nontrivial endomorphism ring. The proof is based on …
For $E/K$ an elliptic curve without complex multiplication we bound the index of the image of $\operatorname{Gal}(\bar{K}/K)$ in $\operatorname{GL}_2(\hat{\mathbb{Z}})$, the representation being given by the action on the Tate modules of $E$ at the various primes. The bound is effective and only depends on $[K:\mathbb{Q}]$ and on the stable Faltings height of $E$. We also prove a result relating the structure of subgroups of $\operatorname{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z}_\ell)$ to certain Lie algebras naturally attached to them.
We prove that for abelian varieties with semistable ordinary reduction the p-adic Mazur-Tate height pairing is induced by the unit root splitting of the Hodge filtration on the first deRham cohomology.
The principal result of this work is the freeness in the $ \overline{\mathbb Z}_l$-cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower. The strategy is of global nature and relies on studying the filtration of stratification of the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles of some Shimura varieties of Kottwitz-Harris-Taylor types, whose graduates can be explicited as some intermediate extension of some local system constructed in the book of Harris andTaylor. The crucial point relies on the study of the difference between such extension for the two classical $t$-structures $p$ and $p+$. The main ingredients use the t…
A p-divisible group, or more generally an F-crystal, is said to be Hodge-Newton reducible if its Hodge polygon passes through a break point of its Newton polygon. Katz proved that Hodge-Newton reducible F-crystals admit a canonical filtration called the Hodge-Newton filtration. The notion of Hodge-Newton reducibility plays an important role in the deformation theory of p-divisible groups; the key property is that the Hodge-Newton filtration of a p-divisible group over a field of characteristic p can be uniquely lifted to a filtration of its deformation. We generalize Katz's result to F-crystal…
This paper studies Artin-Tate motives over number rings. As a subcategory of geometric motives, the triangulated category of Artin-Tate motives DATM(S) is generated by motives of schemes that are finite over the base S. After establishing stability of these subcategories under pullback and pushforward along open and closed immersions, a motivic t-structure is constructed. Exactness properties of these functors familiar from perverse sheaves are shown to hold in this context. The cohomological dimension of mixed Artin-Tate motives is two, and there is an equivalence of the triangulated category…
Let p be a prime number. We give a conjecture of a sheaf-theoretic nature which is equivalent to the strong form of the Tate conjecture for smooth, projective varieties X over F_p: for all n>0, the order of pole of the Hasse-Weil zeta function of X at s=n equals the rank of the group of algebraic cycles of codimension n modulo numerical equivalence. Our main result is that this conjecture implies other well-known conjectures in characteristic p, among which: - The (weak) Tate conjecture for smooth, projective varieties X over any finitely generated field of characteristic p: given a prime l di…
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over a global function field $K$ of characteristic $p$. We study the $μ$-invariant appearing in the Iwasawa theory of $A$ over the unramified $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. Ulmer suggests that this invariant is equal to what he calls the dimension of the Tate-Shafarevich group of $A$ and that it is indeed the dimension of some canonically defined group scheme. Our first result is to verify his suggestions. He also gives a formula for the dimension of the Tate-Shafarevich group (which is now the $μ$-invariant) in terms of other quantities including the Faltings h…
Kisin and Pappas constructed integral models of Hodge-type Shimura varieties with parahoric level structure at $p>2$, such that the formal neighbourhood of a mod~$p$ point can be interpreted as a deformation space of $p$-divisible group with some Tate cycles (generalising Faltings' construction). In this paper, we study the central leaf and the closed Newton stratum in the formal neighbourhoods of mod~$p$ points of Kisin-Pappas integral models with parahoric level structure; namely, we obtain the dimension of central leaves and the almost product structure of Newton strata. In the case of hype…
Classical Serre-Tate theory describes deformations of ordinary abelian varieties. It implies that every such variety has a canonical lift to characteristic zero and equips its local moduli space with a Frobenius lifting and canonical multiplicative coordinates. A variant of this theory has been obtained for ordinary K3 surfaces by Nygaard and Ogus. In this paper, we construct canonical liftings modulo $p^2$ of varieties with trivial canonical class which are ordinary in the weak sense that the Frobenius acts bijectively on the top cohomology of the structure sheaf. Consequently, we obtain a Fr…
The goal of this paper is to give an explicit description of the triangulated categories of Tate and Artin-Tate motives with finite coefficients Z/m over a field K containing a primitive m-root of unity as the derived categories of exact categories of filtered modules over the absolute Galois group of K with certain restrictions on the successive quotients. This description is conditional upon (and its validity is equivalent to) certain Koszulity hypotheses about the Milnor K-theory/Galois cohomology of K. This paper also purports to explain what it means for an arbitrary nonnegatively graded …
Let $G$ be a reductive algebraic group over a perfect field $k$ and $\cG$ a $G$-bundle over a scheme $X/k$. The main aim of this article is to study the motive associated with $\cG$, inside the Veovodsky Motivic categories. We consider the case that $\charakt k=0$ (resp. $\charakt k\geq 0$), the motive associated to $X$ is geometrically mixed Tate (resp. geometrically cellular) and $\cG$ is locally trivial for the Zariski (resp. étale) topology on $X$ and show that the motive of $\cG$ is geometrically mixed Tate. Moreover for a general $X$ we construct a nested filtration on the motive associa…
For any two degrees coprime to the rank, we construct a family of ring isomorphisms parameterized by GSp(2g) between the cohomology of the moduli spaces of stable Higgs bundles which preserve the perverse filtrations. As consequences, we prove two structural results concerning the cohomology of Higgs moduli which are predicted by the P=W conjecture in non-abelian Hodge theory: (1) Galois conjugation for character varieties preserves the perverse filtrations for the corresponding Higgs moduli spaces. (2) The restriction of the Hodge-Tate decomposition for a character variety to each piece of th…
For a smooth projective geometrically uniruled threefold defined over a perfect field we show that there exists a canonical abelian variety over the field, namely the second algebraic representative, whose rational Tate modules model canonically the third l-adic cohomology groups of the variety for all primes l. In addition, there exists a rational correspondence inducing these identifications. In the case of a geometrically rationally chain connected variety, one obtains canonical identifications between the integral Tate modules of the second algebraic representative and the third l-adic coh…
We study certain 'weights' for triangulated categories endowed with $t$-structures. Our results axiomatize and describe in detail the relations between the Chow weight structure (introduced in a preceding paper), the (conjectural) motivic t-structure for Voevodsky's motives, and the conjectural weight filtration for them. This picture becomes non-conjectural when restricted to the derived categories of 1-motives (over a smooth base) and of Artin-Tate motives over number fields; other examples include Beilinson's derived category of graded polarizable mixed Hodge complexes and Saito's derived c…
