In the paper we propose a proof of Reeder's Conjecture on the graded multiplicities of small representations in the exterior algebra $Λ$g for the simple Lie algebras of type B and C.
In the paper we complete a case by case proof of Reeder's Conjecture started in our previous work, proving the conjecture for simple Lie algebras of type $D$ and for the exceptional cases.
Let G be a simple complex algebraic group. We prove that the irregularity of the adjoint connection of an irregular flat G-bundle on the formal punctured disk is always greater than or equal to the rank of G. This can be considered as a geometric analogue of a conjecture of Gross and Reeder. We will also show that the irregular connections with minimum adjoint irregularity are precisely the (formal) Frenkel-Gross connections.
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra with Cartan subalgebra $\mathfrak h$ and Weyl group $W$. We build up a graded map $(\mathcal H\otimes \bigwedge\mathfrak h\otimes \mathfrak h)^W\to (\bigwedge \mathfrak g\otimes \mathfrak g)^\mathfrak g$ of $(\bigwedge \mathfrak g)^\mathfrak g\cong S(\mathfrak h)^W$-modules, where $\mathcal H$ is the space of $W$-harmonics. In this way we prove an enhanced form of a conjecture of Reeder for the adjoint representation. New version with different title. Various improvements. New section 7.
We investigate the structure of electrical Lie algebras of finite Dynkin type. These Lie algebras were introduced by Lam-Pylyavskyy in the study of \textit{circular planar electrical networks}. The corresponding Lie group acts on such networks via some combinatorial operations studied by Curtis-Ingerman-Morrow and Colin de Verdière-Gitler-Vertigan. Lam-Pylyavskyy studied the electrical Lie algebra of type $A$ of even rank in detail, and gave a conjecture for the dimension of electrical Lie algebras of finite Dynkin types. We prove this conjecture for all classical Dynkin types, that is, $A$, $…
We prove the Kac-Wakimoto conjecture for the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$, stating that any simple module lying in a block of non-maximal atypicality has superdimension zero.
Atypicality is a fundamental combinatorial invariant for simple supermodules of a basic Lie superalgebra. Boe, Nakano, and the author gave a conjectural geometric interpretation of atypicality via support varieties. Inspired by low dimensional topology, Geer, Patureau-Mirand, and the author gave a generalization of the Kac-Wakimoto atypicality conjecture. We prove both of these conjectures for the Lie superalgebra osp(m|2n).
I give the details of some conjectures regarding Schubert calculus in Lie types B and D. Specifically, I conjecture rules for Schubert structure constants $c_{u,v}^w$ when $X_{w_0u}^v$ is a Richardson variety stable under the spherical Levi subgroup $\C^* \times SO(n-2,\C)$ of $SO(n,\C)$.
In this paper we verify Navarro's refinement of the McKay conjecture for quasi-simple groups of Lie type in their defining characteristic. Navarro's refinement takes into account the action of specific Galois automorphisms on the characters present in the McKay conjecture. Our proof of this case of the conjecture relies on a character correspondence constructed by Maslowski. Building on this we verify the inductive condition for Navarro's refinement for most groups of Lie type in defining characteristic.
A finite dimensional Lie algebra L with magic number c(L) is said to satisfy Rentschler's property if it admits an abelian Lie subalgebra H of dimension at least c(L) - 1. We study the occurrence of this new property in various Lie algebras, such as nonsolvable, solvable, nilpotent, metabelian and filiform Lie algebras. Under some mild condition H gives rise to a complete Poisson commutative subalgebra of the symmetric algebra S(L). Using this, we show that Milovanov's conjecture holds for the filiform Lie algebras of type Ln, Qn, Rn, Wn and also for all filiform Lie algebras of dimension at m…
We formulate a general super duality conjecture on connections between parabolic categories O of modules over Lie superalgebras and Lie algebras of type A, based on a Fock space formalism of their Kazhdan-Lusztig theories which was initiated by Brundan. We show that the Brundan-Kazhdan-Lusztig (BKL) polynomials for Lie superalgebra gl(m|n) in our parabolic setup can be identified with the usual parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. We establish some special cases of the BKL conjecture on the parabolic category O of gl(m|n)-modules and additional results which support the BKL conjecture and su…

We address two fundamental questions in the representation theory of affine Hecke algebras of classical types. One is an inductive algorithm to compute characters of tempered modules, and the other is the determination of the constants in the formal degrees of discrete series (in the form conjectured by Reeder \cite{Re}). The former is completely different than the Lusztig-Shoji algorithm \cite{Sh, L}, and it is more effective in a number of cases. The main idea in our proof is to introduce a new family of representations which behave like tempered modules, but for which it is easier to analyz…
We consider modular Lie algebras over algebraically closed field of characteristic $p \geq 7$. This paper purports to prove the conjecture that classical modular Lie algebras,in particular of $C_l$ and of $A_l$ type, should be a Park's Lie algebra, and so a Hypo- Lie algebra.
A proof of Thompson's conjecture for real semi-simple Lie groups has been given by Kapovich, Millson, and Leeb. In this note, we give another proof of the conjecture by using a theorem of Alekseev, Meinrenken, and Woodward from symplectic geometry.
Let $\g$ be any simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. Recall that there exists an embedding of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ into $\g$, called a principal TDS, passing through a principal nilpotent element of $\g$ and uniquely determined up to conjugation. Moreover, $\wedge (\g^*)^\g$ is freely generated (in the super-graded sense) by primitive elements $ω_1, \dots, ω_\ell$, where $\ell$ is the rank of $\g$. N. Hitchin conjectured that for any primitive element $ω\in \wedge^d (\g^*)^\g$, there exists an irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-submodule $V_ω\subset \g$ of dimension $d$ such that $ω$ is non-zero on t…
Let g be a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We show that if the Gelfand-Kirillov conjecture holds for g, then g has type A_n, C_n or G_2.
We give a uniform proof of a significant part of the Cachazo-Douglas-Seiberg-Witten conjecture by using topology and geometry of infinite Grassmannians.
In this paper we prove the Kazhdan-Lusztig type character formula for irreducible highest weight modules with positive rational highest weights over symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras.
Recently, motivated by supersymmetric gauge theory, Cachazo, Douglas, Seiberg, and Witten proposed a conjecture about finite dimensional simple Lie algebras, and checked it in the classical cases. Later V. Kac and the author proposed a uniform approach to this conjecture, based on the theory of abelian ideals in the Borel subalgebra; this allowed them to check the conjecture for type G_2. In this note we further develop this approach, and propose three natural conjectures which imply the three parts of the CDSW conjecture. In a sense, these conjectures explain why the CDSW conjecture should be…
For a finite dimensional complex Lie algebra, its index is the minimal dimension of stabilizers for the coadjoint action. A famous conjecture due to Elashvili says that the index of the centralizer of an element of a reductive Lie algebra is equal to the rank. That conjecture caught attention of several Lie theorists for years. In this paper we give an almost general proof of that conjecture.
Späth showed that the Alperin-McKay conjecture in the representation theory of finite groups holds if the so-called inductive Alperin-McKay condition holds for all finite simple groups. In a previous article, we showed that the Bonnafé-Rouquier equivalence for blocks of finite groups of Lie type can be lifted to include automorphisms of groups of Lie type. We use our results to reduce the verification of the inductive condition for groups of Lie type to quasi-isolated blocks.
In the framework of canonical and dual canonical bases of Fock spaces, Brundan in 2003 formulated a Kazhdan-Lusztig type conjecture for the characters of the irreducible and tilting modules in the BGG category for the general linear Lie superalgebra for the first time. In this paper, we prove Brundan's conjecture and its variants associated to all Borel subalgebras in full generality.
This article discusses the modular representation theory of finite groups of Lie type from the viewpoint of Broue's abelian defect group conjecture. We discuss both the defining characteristic case, the inspiration for Alperin's weight conjecture, and the non-defining case, the inspiration for Broue's conjecture. The modular representation theory of general finite groups is conjectured to behave both like that of finite groups of Lie type in defining characteristic, and in non-defining characteristic, to a large extent. The expected behaviour of modular representation theory of finite groups o…
We extend classical results of Kostant and al. on multiplets of representations of finite-dimensional Lie algebras and on the cubic Dirac operator to the setting of affine Lie algebras and twisted affine cubic Dirac operator. We prove in this setting an analogue of Vogan's conjecture on infinitesimal characters of Harish-Chandra modules in terms of Dirac cohomology. For our calculations we use the machinery of Lie conformal and vertex algebras.
We study the derived representation scheme DRep_n(A) parametrizing the n-dimensional representations of an associative algebra A over a field of characteristic zero. We show that the homology of DRep_n(A) is isomorphic to the Chevalley-Eilenberg homology of the current Lie coalgebra gl_n^*(C) defined over a Koszul dual coalgebra of A. We extend this isomorphism to representation schemes of Lie algebras: for a finite-dimensional reductive Lie algebra g, we define the derived affine scheme DRep_g(a) parametrizing the representations (in g) of a Lie algebra a; we show that the homology of DRep_g(…
Vogan raised the idea of Dirac cohomology to study representations of semisimple Lie groups and Lie algebras. He conjectured that the infinitesimal character of Harish-Chandra modules are determined by their Dirac cohomology. Huang and Pandžić proved this conjecture and initiated the research on Dirac cohomology for Lie superalgebras based on Kostant's results. The aim of the present paper is to study Dirac cohomology of unitary representations for the general linear superalgebra and its relation to nilpotent Lie superalgebra cohomology.
The exceptional infinite-dimensional linearly compact simple Lie superalgebra ${E}(5,10)$, which Kac believes, is the algebra of symmetries of the ${SU}_{5}$ Grand Unified Model. In this paper, we give a proof of Kac and Rudakov's conjecture about the classification of all the degenerate generalized Verma module over ${E}(5,10)$. Also, we work out all the nontrivial singular vectors degree by degree. It is a potential that the representation theory of ${E}(5,10)$ will shed new light on various features of the the ${SU}_{5}$ Grand unified model.
In 1971 Kac and Weisfeiler made two important conjectures regarding the representation theory of restricted Lie algebras over fields of positive characteristic. The first of these predicts the maximal dimension of the simple modules, and can be stated without the hypothesis that the Lie algebra is restricted. In this short article we construct the first example of a non-restricted Lie algebra for which the prediction of the first Kac--Weisfeiler conjecture fails. Our method is to present pairs of Lie algebras which have isomorphic enveloping algebras but distinct indexes.
We consider the equivariant K-theory of a real semisimple Lie group which acts on the (complex) flag variety of its complexification group. We construct an assemble map in the framework of KK-theory and then we prove that it is an isomorphism. The prove relies on a careful study of the orbits of the real group action on the flag variety and then piecing together different orbits. This result is a special case of the Baum-Connes conjecture with coefficients.
In 1971, Kac and Weisfeiler made two influential conjectures describing the dimensions of simple modules of a restricted Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The first predicts the maximal dimension of simple $\mathfrak{g}$-modules and in this paper we apply the Lefschetz principle and classical techniques from Lie theory to prove this conjecture for all restricted Lie subalgebras of $\mathfrak{gl}_n(k)$ whenever $k$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p \gg n$. As a consequence we deduce that the conjecture holds for the the Lie algebra of a group scheme when specialised to an algebrai…
Given a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of an algebraic group over a ring $S,$ we show that the first Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture holds for reductions of $\mathfrak{g} \mod p$ for large enough primes $p,$ reproving a recent result of Martin, Stewart and Topley. As a byproduct of our proof, we show that the center of the skew field of fractions of the the enveloping algebra $\mathfrak{U}\mathfrak{g}_{k}$ for a field $k$ of characteristic $p>>0$ is generated by the $p$-center and by the reduction $\mod p$ of the center of the fraction skew field of $\mathfrak{U}\mathfrak{g}.$
Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. It is well known that any quasi-reductive Lie algebra is stable. However, there are stable Lie algebras which are not quasi-reductive. This raises the question, if for some particular class of non-reductive Lie algebras, there is equivalence between stability and quasi-reductivity. In particular, it was conjectured by Panyushev that these two notions are equivalent for biparabolic subalgebras of a reductive Lie algebra. In this paper, we give a positive answer to this conjecture.
In the present paper, we study a purely inseparable counterpart of Abhyankar's conjecture for the affine line in positive characteristic, and prove its validity for all the finite local non-abelian simple group schemes in characteristic $p>5$. The crucial point is how to deal with finite local group schemes which cannot be realized as the Frobenius kernel of a smooth algebraic group. Such group schemes appear as the ones associated with Cartan type Lie algebras. We settle the problem for such Lie algebras by making use of natural gradations or filtrations on them.
Vogan and Barbasch-Vogan attach two similar invariants to representations of a reductive Lie group, one by an algebraic process, the other analytic. They conjectured that the two invariants determine each other in a definite manner. Here we prove the conjecture. Our arguments involve two finer invariants -- the characteristic cycles of representations -- which are interesting in their own right.
In this paper, we discuss the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras, especially for indefinite type. Firstly, we compute the Poincaré series of certain indefinite Kac-Moody Lie algebras whose Cartan matrices have the same type of $2\times 2$ principal sub-matrices. Secondly, we show that the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras satisfy certain interesting properties. Lastly we give some applications of the Poincaré series to other fields. Particularly we construct some counter examples to a conjecture of Victor Kac\cite{Kac_85} and a conjecture of Chapavalov, Leites and Stekolshchik\c…
We state a conjecture (due to M. Duflo) analogous to the Kashiwara--Vergne conjecture in the case of a characteristic $p>2$, where the role of the Campbell--Hausdorff series is played by the Jacobson element. We prove a simpler version of this conjecture using Vergne's explicit rational solution of the Kashiwara--Vergne problem. Our result is related to the structure of the Grothendieck--Teichmüller Lie algebra $\mathfrak{grt}$ in characteristic $p$: we conjecture existence of a generator of $\mathfrak{grt}$ in degree $p-1$, and we provide this generator for $p=3$ and $p=5$.
Let $G$ be a connected Lie group, with Lie algebra $g$. In 1977, Duflo constructed a homomorphism of $g$-modules $Duf: S(g) -> U(g)$, which restricts to an algebra isomorphism on invariants. Kashiwara and Vergne (1978) proposed a conjecture on the Campbell-Hausdorff series, which (among other things) extends the Duflo theorem to germs of bi-invariant distributions on the Lie group $G$. The main results of the present paper are as follows. (1) Using a recent result of Torossian (2002), we establish the Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture for any Lie group $G$. (2) We give a reformulation of the Kashiwa…
This article is a survey about applications of bi-quantization theory in Lie theory. We focus on a conjecture of M. Duflo. Most of the applications are coming from our article with Alberto Cattaneo and some extensions are relating discussions with my student. The end of the article is completely new. We prove that the conjecture E=1 implies the Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture. Our deformation is non geometric but uses a polynomial deformation of the coefficients.
The McKay--Navarro conjecture is a refinement of the McKay conjecture that additionally takes the action of some Galois automorphisms into account. We verify the inductive McKay--Navarro condition in the defining characteristic for the finite groups of Lie type with exceptional graph automorphisms, the Suzuki and Ree groups, $\mathsf{B}_n(2)$ ($n \geq 2$), and the groups of Lie type with non-generic Schur multiplier. This completes the verification of the inductive McKay--Navarro condition for the finite groups of Lie type in their defining characteristic.
We give an upper bound for the index of certain Lie algebras, called of seaweed type, introduced by V. Dergachev, A. Kirillov and D. Panyushev. We deduce from this a conjecture of D. Panyushev stated in "Inductive formulas for the index of seaweed Lie algebra, Moscow Math. Journal (2001) 221-241". We conjecture that our upper bound gives in fact a formula for the index of such Lie algebras, and we prove it in certain cases. Finally, we obtain a result concerning the index of parabolic subalgebras of a semisimple Lie algebra.
Let $H$ be a real algebraic group acting equivariantly with finitely many orbits on a real algebraic manifold $X$ and a real algebraic bundle $\mathcal{E}$ on $X$. Let $\mathfrak{h}$ be the Lie algebra of $H$. Let $\mathcal{S}(X,\mathcal{E})$ be the space of Schwartz sections of $\mathcal{E}$. We prove that $\mathfrak{h}\mathcal{S}(X,\mathcal{E})$ is a closed subspace of $\mathcal{S}(X,\mathcal{E})$ of finite codimension. We give an application of this result in the case when $H$ is a real spherical subgroup of a real reductive group $G$. We deduce an equivalence of two old conjectures due to …
We consider the finite W-superalgebras for a basic classical Lie superalgebra g associated with an even nilpotent element in g both over the field of complex numbers field and and over a filed of positive characteristic. We present the PBW theorem for these finite W-superalgebrfas. Then we formulate a conjecture about the minimal dimensional representations of of complex finite W-superalgebras, and demonstrate it with some examples. Under the assumption that the conjecture holds, we finally show that the lower bound of dimensions predicted in the super version of Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture form…
Let $G$ be connected reductive algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 0$ and suppose that $p$ is a good prime for the root system of $G$, the derived subgroup of $G$ is simply connected and the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g} = \operatorname{Lie}(G)$ admits a non-degenerate Ad$(G)$-invariant symmetric bilinear form. Given a linear function $χ$ on $\mathfrak{g}$ we denote by $U_χ(\mathfrak{g})$ the reduced enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ associated with $χ$. By the Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture (now a theorem), any irreducible $U_χ(\mathfrak{g})$-module has…
We establish a maximal parabolic version of the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture \cite[Conjecture 5.10]{CKW} for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}_{k,ζ}$ of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of "$\pm ζ$-weights", where $k\leq n$ and $ζ\in\mathbb{C} \setminus \frac{1}{2} \mathbb{Z}$. As a consequence, the irreducible characters of these $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules in this maximal parabolic category are given by the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of type $A$ Lie algebras. As an application, closed character formulas for a class of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules resembling polynomial and Kostant modules of the general linea…
The Broadhurst-Kreimer (BK) conjecture describes the Hilbert series of a bigraded Lie algebra A related to the multizeta values. Brown proposed a conjectural description of the homology of this Lie algebra (homological conjecture (HC)), and showed it implies the BK conjecture. We show that a part of HC is equivalent to a presentation of A, and that the remaining part of HC is equivalent to a weaker statement. Finally, we prove that granted the first part of HC, the remaining part of HC is equivalent to either of the following equivalent statements: (a) the vanishing of the third homology group…
Premet has conjectured that the nilpotent variety of any finite-dimensional restricted Lie algebra is an irreducible variety. In this paper, we prove this conjecture in the case of Hamiltonian Lie algebra. and show that its nilpotent variety is normal and a complete intersection. In addition, we generalize the Chevalley Restriction theorem to Hamiltonian Lie algebra. Accordingly, we give the generators of the invariant polynomial ring.
We prove the Feigin-Tipunin conjecture on the geometric construction of the logarithmic W-algebras associated with a simply-laced simple Lie algebra and an integer p bigger than 2, and their modules.
The index of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $g$ is the minimum of dimensions of stabilisers $g_α$ of elements $α\in g^*$. Let $g$ be a reductive Lie algebra and $z(x)$ a centraliser of a nilpotent element $x\in g$. Elashvili has conjectured that the index of the centraliser $z(x)$ equals the index of $g$, i.e., the rank of $g$. Here Elashvili's conjecture is proved for reductive Lie algebras of classical type. It is shown that in cases $g=gl_n$ and $g=sp_{2n}$ the coadjoint action of $z(x)$ has a generic stabiliser. Also, we give an example of a nilpotent element $x\in so_8$ such that the co…
The purpose of this paper is to prove Duflo's conjecture for $(G,π, AN)$ where $G$ is a simple Lie group of Hermitian type and $π$ is a discrete series of $G$ and $AN$ is the maximal exponential solvable subgroup for an Iwasawa decomposition $G=KAN$. This is essentially reduced from the following general theorem we prove in this paper: let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group . Then a strongly elliptic $G$-coadjoint orbit $\mathcal{O}$ is holomorphic if and only if $\text{p}(\mathcal{O})$ is an open $AN$-coadjoint orbit, where $\text{p} : \mathfrak{g}^* \longrightarrow (\mathfrak{a}\oplus\m…
We deduce the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture on the multiplicities of simple modules over a simple complex Lie algebra in Verma modules in category O from the equivariant geometric Satake correspondence and the analysis of torus fixed points in zastava spaces. We make similar speculations for the affine Lie algebras and W-algebras.
The notion of a non-associative universal enveloping algebra for a Lie triple system arises when Lie triple systems are considered as Bol algebras (more generally, Sabinin algebras). In this paper a new construction for these universal enveloping algebras is given, and their properties are studied. It is shown that universal enveloping algebras of Lie triple systems have surprisingly few ideals. It is conjectured, and the conjecture is verified on several examples, that the only proper ideal of the universal enveloping algebra of a simple Lie triple system is the augmentation ideal.
