Let $R$ be an Artin algebra and $e$ an idempotent of $R$. Assume that ${\rm Tor}_i^{eRe}(Re,G)=0$ for any $G\in{\rm GProj} eRe$ and $i$ sufficiently large. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the Schur functor $S_e$ to induce a triangle-equivalence $\mathbb{D}_{def}(R)\simeq\mathbb{D}_{def}(eRe)$. Combine this with a result of Psaroudakis-Skartsaterhagen-Solberg [29], we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the singular equivalence $\mathbb{D}_{sg}(R)\simeq\mathbb{D}_{sg}(eRe)$ to restrict to a triangle-equivalence $\underline{{\rm GProj} R}\simeq\underline{{\rm GProj} eRe}$. Applying these to the triangular matrix algebra $T=\left(
\begin{array}{cc}
A & M \quad
0 & B
\end{array}
\right)$, corresponding results between candidate categories of $T$ and $A$ (resp. $B$) are obtained. As a consequence, we infer Gorensteinness and CM-freeness of $T$ from those of $A$ (resp. $B$). Some concrete examples are given to indicate one can realise the Gorenstein defect category of a triangular matrix algebra as the singularity category of one of its corner algabras.
We establish relations between Gorenstein projective precovers linked by Frobenius functors. This is motivated by an open problem that how to find general classes of rings for which modules have Gorenstein projective precovers. It is shown that if $F:\C\rightarrow\D$ is a separable Frobenius functor between abelian categories with enough projective objects, then every object in $\C$ has a Gorenstein projective precover provided that every object in $\D$ has a Gorenstein projective precover. This result is applied to separable Frobenius extensions and excellent extensions.
In this note, we mainly extend some Gorenstein homological properties from special rings (Noetherian or coherent rings ) to arbitrary rings by introducing the notions of Gorenstein weak injective and weak projective modules respectively.
Duality properties are studied for a Gorenstein algebra that is finite and projective over its center. Using the homotopy category of injective modules, it is proved that there is a local duality theorem for the subcategory of acyclic complexes of such an algebra, akin to the local duality theorems of Grothendieck and Serre in the context of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. A key ingredient is the Nakayama functor on the bounded derived category of a Gorenstein algebra, and its extension to the full homotopy category of injective modules.
From certain triangle functors, called non-negative functors, between the bounded derived categories of abelian categories with enough projective objects, we introduce their stable functors which are certain additive functors between the stable categories of the abelian categories. The construction generalizes a previous work by Hu and Xi. We show that the stable functors of non-negative functors have nice exactness property and are compatible with composition of functors. This allows us to compare conveniently the homological properties of objects linked by the stable functors. Particularly, …
Let $k$ be a commutative ring, let $\mathcal{C}$ be a small, $k$-linear, Hom-finite, locally bounded category, and let $\mathcal{B}$ be a $k$-linear abelian category. We construct a Frobenius exact subcategory $\mathcal{GP}(\mathcal{G}_P\operatorname{proj}(\mathcal{B}^{\mathcal{C}}))$ of the functor category $\mathcal{B}^{\mathcal{C}}$, and we show that it is a subcategory of the Gorenstein projective objects $\mathcal{GP}(\mathcal{B}^{\mathcal{C}})$ in $\mathcal{B}^{\mathcal{C}}$. Furthermore, we obtain criteria for when $\mathcal{GP}(\mathcal{G}_P\operatorname{proj}(\mathcal{B}^{\mathcal{C}}…
We study certain Schur functors which preserve singularity categories of rings and we apply them to study the singularity category of triangular matrix rings. In particular, combining these results with Buchweitz-Happel's theorem, we can describe singularity categories of certain non-Gorenstein rings via the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules. Three concrete examples of finite-dimensional algebras with the same singularity category are discussed.
The theory of Schur functors provides a powerful and elegant approach to the representation theory of GL_n - at least to the so-called polynomial representations - especially to questions about how the theory varies with n. We develop parallel theories that apply to other classical groups and to non-polynomial representations of GL_n. These theories can also be viewed as linear analogs of the theory of FI-modules.

We introduce categories of homogeneous strict polynomial functors, $\Pol^\I_{d,\k}$ and $\Pol^\II_{d,\k}$, defined on vector superspaces over a field $\k$ of characteristic not equal 2. These categories are related to polynomial representations of the supergroups $GL(m|n)$ and Q(n), respectively. In particular, we prove an equivalence between $\Pol^\I_{d,\k}$, $\Pol^\II_{d,\k}$ and the category of finite dimensional supermodules over the Schur superalgebra $\Sc(m|n,d)$, $\Qc(n,d)$ respectively provided $m,n \ge d$. We also discuss some aspects of Sergeev duality from the viewpoint of the categ…
We consider the homotopy category of complexes of projective modules over a Noetherian ring. Truncation at degree zero induces a fully faithful triangle functor from the totally acyclic complexes to the stable derived category. We show that if the ring is either Artin or commutative Noetherian local, then the functor is dense if and only if the ring is Gorenstein. Motivated by this, we define the Gorenstein defect category of the ring, a category which in some sense measures how far the ring is from being Gorenstein.
Rickard proved that for certain self-injective algebras, a stable equivalence induced from an exact functor is a stable equivalence of Morita type, in the sense of Broué. In this paper we study singular equivalences of finite dimensional algebras induced from tensor product functors. We prove that for certain Gorenstein algebras, a singular equivalence induced from tensoring with a suitable complex of bimodules, induces a singular equivalence of Morita type with level, in the sense of Wang. This recovers Rickard's theorem in the self-injective case.
In this paper we introduce a generalization of the Nakayama functor for finite-dimensional algebras. This is obtained by abstracting its interaction with the forgetful functor to vector spaces. In particular, we characterize the Nakayama functor in terms of an ambidextrous adjunction of monads and comonads. In the second part we develop a theory of Gorenstein homological algebra for such Nakayama functor. We obtain analogues of several classical results for Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras. One of our main examples is the module category $Λ\text{-}\operatorname{Mod}$ of a $k$-algebra $Λ$, where $k$…
Happel constructed a fully faithful functor $\mathcal{H} :\mathsf{D}^{\mathrm{b}}(\text{mod} \ Λ) \to \underline{\text{mod}}^{\Bbb{Z}} \ \text{T}(Λ)$ for a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$. He also showed that this functor $\mathcal{H}$ gives an equivalence precisely when $\text{gldim } Λ< \infty$. Thus if $\mathcal{H}$ gives an equivalence, then it provides a canonical tilting object $\mathcal{H} (Λ)$ of $\underline{\text{mod}}^{\mathbb{Z}} \ \text{T}(Λ)$. In this paper we generalize Happel's functor $\mathcal{H}$ in the case where $\text{T}(Λ)$ is replaced with a finitely graded IG algebra $A$…
Gorenstein rings are important to mathematical areas as diverse as algebraic geometry, where they encode information about singularities of spaces, and homotopy theory, through the concept of model categories. In consequence, the study of Gorenstein rings has led to the advent of a whole branch of homological algebra, known as Gorenstein homological algebra. This paper solves one of the open problems of Gorenstein homological algebra by showing that so-called Gorenstein projective resolutions exist over quite general rings, thereby enabling the definition of a Gorenstein version of derived fun…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ be abelian categories and $\mathbf{F}:\mathcal{A}\to \mathcal{B}$ an additive and right exact functor which is perfect, and let $(\mathbf{F},\mathcal{B})$ be the left comma category. We give an equivalent characterization of Gorenstein projective objects in $(\mathbf{F},\mathcal{B})$ in terms of Gorenstein projective objects in $\mathcal{B}$ and $\mathcal{A}$. We prove that there exists a left recollement of the stable category of the subcategory of $(\mathbf{F},\mathcal{B})$ consisting of Gorenstein projective objects modulo projectives relative to the same…
In the recent paper "The Nakayama functor and its completion for Gorenstein algebras", a class of Gorenstein algebras over commutative noetherian rings was introduced, and duality theorems for various categories of representations were established. The manuscript on hand provides more context to the results presented in the aforementioned work, identifies new classes of Gorenstein algebras, and explores their behaviour under standard operations like taking tensor products and tilting.
We define an extension of the affine Brauer algebra, the type B/C affine Brauer algebra. This new algebra contains the hyperoctahedral group and it naturally acts on $END_K(X \otimes V^{\otimes k})$ for Orthogonal and Symplectic groups. Thus we obtain a compact analogue of Schur-Weyl duality. We study functors $F_{μ,k}$ from the category of admissible $O(p,q)$ or $Sp_{2n}(\mathbb{R})$ modules to representations of the type B/C affine Brauer algebra $\mathfrak{B}_k^θ$. Thus providing a Akawaka-Suzuki-esque link between $O(p,q)$ (or $Sp_{2n}(\mathbb{R})$) and $\mathfrak{B}_k^θ$. Furthermore thes…
By considering the nilpotent Lie algebra with the derived subalgebra of dimension $ 2$, we compute some functors include the Schur multiplier, the exterior square and the tensor square of these Lie algebras. We also give the corank of such Lie algebras.
In this paper, we introduce the theory of local cohomology and local duality to Notherian connected cochain DG algebras. We show that the notion of local cohomology functor can be used to detect the Gorensteinness of a homologically smooth DG algebra. For any Gorenstein homologically smooth locally finite DG algebra $\mathcal{A}$, we define a group homomorphism $\mathrm{Hdet}: \mathrm{Aut}_{dg}(\mathcal{A})\to k^{\times},$ called the homological determinant. As applications, we present a sufficient condition for the invariant DG subalgebra $\mathcal{A}^G$ to be Gorensten, where $\mathcal{A}$ i…
We generalise notions of Gorenstein homological algebra for rings to the context of arbitrary abelian categories. The results are strongest for module categories of rngs with enough idempotents. We also reformulate the notion of Frobenius extensions of noetherian rings into a setting which allows for direct generalisation to arbitrary abelian categories. The abstract theory is then applied to the BGG category O for Lie superalgebras, which can now be seen as a "Frobenius extension" of the corresponding category for the underlying Lie algebra and is therefore "Gorenstein". In particular we obta…
For a free presentation $0 \to R \to F \to G \to 0$ of a Leibniz algebra $G$, the Baer invariant ${\cal M}^{\sf Lie}(G) = \frac{R \cap [F, F]_{Lie}}{[F, R]_{Lie}}$ is called the Schur multiplier of $G$ relative to the Liezation functor or Schur Lie-multiplier. For a two-sided ideal $N$ of a Leibniz algebra $G$, we construct a four-term exact sequence relating the Schur Lie-multiplier of $G$ and $G/N$, which is applied to study and characterize Lie-nilpotency, Lie-stem covers and Lie-capability of Leibniz algebras.
By studying certain kind of centralizer algebras of the affine Schur algebra $\widetilde{S}(n,r)$ we show that $\widetilde{S}(n,r)$ is Noetherian and we determine its center. Assuming $n\geq r$, we show that $\widetilde{S}(n+1,r)$ is Morita equivalent to $\widetilde{S}(n,r)$, and the Schur functor is an equivalence under certain conditions.
It is important for applications of Homological Algebra in Representation Theory to have control over the behaviour of (minimal) projective resolutions under various functors. In this article we describe three broad families of functors that preserve such resolutions. We will use these results in our work on Representation Theory of Schur algebras.
For any ring R the category of monomorphisms is a full subcategory of the morphsim category over R, where the latter is equivalent to the module category of the triangular matrix ring with entries the ring R. In this work, we consider the monomorphism category as a full subcategory of the module category over the Morita ring with all entries the ring R and zero bimodule homomorphisms. This approach provides an interesting link between Morita rings and monomorphism categories. The aim of this paper is two-fold. First, we construct Gorenstein-projective modules over Morita rings with zero bimodu…
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0, let m,r be integers with m\ge1, r\ge0 and m\ge r and let S_0(2m,r) be the symplectic Schur algebra over k as introduced by the first author. We introduce the symplectic Schur functor, derive some basic properties of it and relate this to work of Hartmann and Paget. We do the same for the orthogonal Schur algebra. We give a modified Jantzen sum formula and a block result for the symplectic Schur algebra under the assumption that r and the residue of 2m mod p are small relative to p. From this we deduce a block result for the orthogon…
Let $A_n(K)$ be the Kostant form of $\mathfrak{U}(sl_n^+)$ and $Γ$ the monoid generated by the positive roots of $sl_n$. For each $λ\in Λ(n,r)$ we construct a functor $F_λ$ from the category of finitely generated $Γ$-graded $A_n(K)$-modules to the category of finite dimensional $S^+(n,r)$-modules, with the property that $F_λ$ maps (minimal) projective resolutions of the one-dimensional $A_n(K)$-module $K_{A}$ to (minimal) projective resolutions of the simple $S^+(n,r)$-module $K_λ$.
We investigate the behavior of singularity categories and stable categories of Gorenstein projective modules along a morphism of rings. The natural context to approach the problem is via change of rings, that is, the classical adjoint triple between the module categories. In particular, we identify conditions on the change of rings to induce functors between the two singularity categories or the two stable categories of Gorenstein projective modules. Moreover, we study this problem at the level of `big singularity categories' in the sense of Krause. Along the way we establish an explicit const…
Auslander conjectured that every Artin algebra satisfies a certain condition on vanishing of cohomology of finitely generated modules. The failure of this conjecture - by a 2003 counterexample due to Jorgensen and Sega - motivates the consideration of the class of rings that do satisfy Auslander's condition. We call them AC rings and show that an AC Artin algebra that is left-Gorenstein is also right-Gorenstein. Furthermore, the Auslander-Reiten Conjecture is proved for AC rings, and Auslander's G-dimension is shown to be functorial for AC rings that are commutative or have a dualizing complex…
Recently, the authors obtained the Schur multiplier, the non-abelian tensor square and the non-abelian exterior square of $d$-generator generalized Heisenberg Lie algebras of rank $ \frac{1}{2}d(d-1).$ Here, we intend to obtain the same results for $d$-generator generalized Heisenberg Lie algebras of rank $ t$ when $ \frac{1}{2}d(d-1)-3 \leq t\leq \frac{1}{2}d(d-1)-1.$ Then, as a result, we give similar consequences for a nilpotent Lie algebra $ L $ of class two when $ \dim (L/Z(L))=d,$ $ \dim L^2=t $ such that $ \frac{1}{2}d(d-1)-3 \leq t\leq \frac{1}{2}d(d-1)-1.$
In this paper, by using functor rings and functor categories, we study finiteness and purity of subcategories of the module categories. We give a characterisation of contravariantly finite resolving subcategories of the module category of finite representation type in terms of their functor rings. We also characterize contravariantly finite resolving subcategories of the module category $Λ${\rm -mod} that contain the Jacobson radical of $Λ$ of finite type, by their functor categories. We study the pure semisimplicity conjecture for a locally finitely presented category ${\underrightarrow{\lim}…
Let $A= Λ\oplus C$ be a trivial extension algebra. The aim of this paper is to establish formulas for the projective dimension and the injective dimension for a certain class of $A$-modules which is expressed by using the derived functors $- \otimes^{\mathbb{L}}_ΛC$ and $\mathbb{R}\text{Hom}_Λ(C, -)$. Consequently, we obtain formulas for the global dimension of $A$, which gives a modern expression of the classical formula for the global dimension by Palmer-Roos and Löfwall that is written in complicated classical derived functors. The main application of the formulas is to give a necessary and…
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional representation of the complex circle $\mathbb{C}^\times$ determined by a weight vector $\mathbf{a}\in\mathbb{Z}^n$. We study the Hilbert series $\operatorname{Hilb}_{\mathbf{a}}(t)$ of the graded algebra $\mathbb{C}[V]^{\mathbb{C}_{\mathbf{a}}^\times}$ of polynomial $\mathbb{C}^\times$-invariants in terms of the weight vector $\mathbf{a}$ of the $\mathbb{C}^\times$-action. In particular, we give explicit formulas for $\operatorname{Hilb}_{\mathbf{a}}(t)$ as well as the first four coefficients of the Laurent expansion of $\operatorname{Hilb}_{\mathbf{a}}(t)$ at $…
For any ring R we construct two triangulated categories, each admitting a functor from R-modules that sends projective and injective modules to 0. When R is a quasi-Frobenius or Gorenstein ring, these triangulated categories agree with each other and with the usual stable module category. Our stable module categories are homotopy categories of Quillen model structures on the category of R-modules. These model categories involve generalizations of Gorenstein projective and injective modules that we derive by replacing finitely presented modules by modules of type FP-infinity. Along the way, we …
For a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$ of finite representation type and an additive generator $M$ for $\mathrm{mod}\,Λ$, we investigate the properties of the Yoneda algebra $Γ=\bigoplus_{i \geq 0}\mathrm{Ext}_Λ^i(M,M)$. We show that $Γ$ is graded coherent and Gorenstein of self-injective dimension at most $1$, and the graded singularity category $\mathrm{D_{sg}^\mathbb{Z}}(Γ)$ of $Γ$ is triangle equivalent to the derived category of the stable Auslander algebra of $Λ$. These results remain valid for representation-infinite algebras. For this we introduce the Yoneda category $\mathcal{Y}$ of $Λ$…
For a recollement $(\mathcal{D}B,\mathcal{D}A,\mathcal{D}C)$ of derived categories of algebras, we investigate when the functor $j^*:\mathcal{D}A\rightarrow\mathcal{D}C$ is an eventually homological isomorphism. In this context, we compare the algebras $A$ and $C$ with respect to Gorensteinness, singularity categories and the finite generation condition Fg for the Hochschild cohomology. The results are applied to stratifying ideals, triangular matrix algebras and derived discrete algebras.
We study Morita rings $Λ_{(ϕ,ψ)}=\bigl({smallmatrix} A &_AN_B_BM_A & B {smallmatrix}\bigr)$ in the context of Artin algebras from various perspectives. First we study covariant finite, contravariant finite, and functorially finite subcategories of the module category of a Morita ring when the bimodule homomorphisms $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are zero. Further we give bounds for the global dimension of a Morita ring $Λ_{(0,0)}$, regarded as an Artin algebra, in terms of the global dimensions of $A$ and $B$ in the case when both $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are zero. We illustrate our bounds with some examples. Finally we inve…
