We consider the homotopy category of complexes of projective modules over a Noetherian ring. Truncation at degree zero induces a fully faithful triangle functor from the totally acyclic complexes to the stable derived category. We show that if the ring is either Artin or commutative Noetherian local, then the functor is dense if and only if the ring is Gorenstein. Motivated by this, we define the Gorenstein defect category of the ring, a category which in some sense measures how far the ring is from being Gorenstein.
A recent result by J. Šaroch and J. Šťov\'ıček asserts that there is a unique abelian model structure on the category of left $R$-modules, for any associative ring $R$ with identity, whose (trivially) cofibrant and (trivially) fibrant objects are given by the classes of Gorenstein flat (resp., flat) and cotorsion (resp., Gorenstein cotorsion) modules. In this paper, we generalise this result to a certain relativisation of Gorenstein flat modules, which we call Gorenstein $\mathcal{B}$-flat modules, where $\mathcal{B}$ is a class of right $R$-modules. Using some of the techniques considered by …
Owing to the difference in $K$-theory, an example by Dugger and Shipley implies that the equivalence of stable categories of Gorenstein projective modules should not be a Quillen equivalence. We give a sufficient and necessary condition for the Frobenius pair of faithful functors between two abelian categories to be a Quillen equivalence, which is also equivalent to that the Frobenius functors induce mutually inverse equivalences between stable categories of Gorenstein projective objects. We show that the category of Gorenstein projective objects is a Waldhausen category, then Gorenstein $K$-g…
A well-known theorem of Buchweitz provides equivalences between three categories: the stable category of Gorenstein projective modules over a Gorenstein algebra, the homotopy category of acyclic complexes of projectives, and the singularity category. To adapt this result to $N$-complexes, one must find an appropriate candidate for the $N$-analogue of the stable category. We identify this "$N$-stable category" via the monomorphism category and prove Buchweitz's theorem for $N$-complexes over a Frobenius exact abelian category. We also compute the Serre functor on the $N$-stable category over a …
We prove that any faithful Frobenius functor between abelian categories preserves the Gorenstein projective dimension of objects. Consequently, it preserves and reflects Gorenstein projective objects. We give conditions on when a Frobenius functor preserves the stable categories of Gorenstein projective objects, the singularity categories and the Gorenstein defect categories, respectively. In the appendix, we give a direct proof of the following known result: for an abelian category with enough projectives and injectives, its global Gorenstein projective dimension coincides with its global Gor…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category. In this paper, we investigate the global $(\mathcal{X} , \mathcal{Y})$-Gorenstein projective dimension $\mathrm{gl.GPD}(\mathcal{X} ,\mathcal{Y})(\mathcal{A})$, associated to a GP-admissible pair $(\mathcal{X} , \mathcal{Y} )$. We give homological conditions over $(\mathcal{X} , \mathcal{Y})$ that characterize it. Moreover, given a GI-admisible pair $(\mathcal{Z} , \mathcal{W} )$, we study conditions under which $\mathrm{gl.GID}(\mathcal{Z},\mathcal{W})(\mathcal{A})$ and $\mathrm{gl.GPD}(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y})(\mathcal{A})$ are the same.
Let $A$, $B$ be two rings and $T=\left(\begin{smallmatrix} A & M \\ 0 & B \\\end{smallmatrix}\right)$ with $M$ an $A$-$B$-bimodule. We first construct a semi-complete duality pair $\mathcal{D}_{T}$ of $T$-modules using duality pairs in $A$-Mod and $B$-Mod respectively. Then we characterize when a left $T$-module is Gorenstein $D_{T}$-projective, Gorenstein $D_{T}$-injective or Gorenstein $D_{T}$-flat. These three class of $T$-modules will induce model structures on $T$-Mod. Finally we show that the homotopy category of each of model structures above admits a recollement relative to correspondi…
Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. In this paper, we study Gorenstein derived functors for extriangulated categories. More precisely, we first introduce the notion of the proper $ξ$-Gorenstein projective resolution for any object in $\mathcal{C}$ and define the functors $ξ\text{xt}_{\mathcal{GP}(ξ)}$ and $ξ\text{xt}_{\mathcal{GI}(ξ)}$. Under some assumptions, we give some equivalent characterizations for any object with finite $ξ$-Gorenstein projective dimension. Next we get some nice results by using der…
Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. In this paper, we first introduce the $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology in terms of $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective resolutions and $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$injective coresolutions, respectively, and then we get the balance of $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology. Moreover, we study the interplay among $ξ$-cohomology, $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology and $ξ$-complete cohomology, and obtain the Avramov-Martsinkovsky type exact sequences in this setting.
It was well known that there are $e$-particles and $m$-strings in the 3-dimensional (spatial dimension) toric code model, which realizes the 3-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$ topological order. Recent mathematical result, however, shows that there are additional string-like topological defects in the 3-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$ topological order. In this work, we construct all topological defects of codimension 2 and higher, and show that they form a braided fusion 2-category satisfying a braiding non-degeneracy condition.
