From an octonion algebra $\mathbb{O}$ over a field $k$ of characteristic not two or three, we show that the fundamental representation ${\rm Im}(\mathbb{O})$ of the derivation algebra ${\rm Der}(\mathbb{O})$ and the spinor representation $\mathbb{O}$ of $\mathfrak{so}({\rm Im}(\mathbb{O}))$ are special orthogonal representations. They have particular geometric properties coming from their similarities with binary cubics and we show that the covariants of these representations and their Mathews identities are related to the Fano plane and the affine space $(\mathbb{Z}_2)^3$. This also permits to give constructions of exceptional Lie superalgebras.
Recently Alberto Elduque listed all simple and graded modulo 2 finite dimensional Lie algebras and superalgebras whose odd component is the spinor representation of the orthogonal Lie algebra equal to the even component, and discovered one exceptional such Lie superalgebra in characteristic 5. For this Lie superalgebra all inequivalent Cartan matrices (in other words, inequivalent systems of simple roots) are listed together with defining relations between analogs of its Chevalley generators.
We classify the blocks, compute the Verma flags of tilting and projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $G(3)$. The projective injective modules in $\mathcal O$ are classified. We also compute the Jordan-Hölder multiplicities of the Verma modules in $\mathcal O$.
For the exceptional finite-dimensional modular Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}(A)$ with indecomposable Cartan matrix $A$, and their simple subquotients, we computed non-isomorphic Lie superalgebras constituting the homologies of the odd elements with zero square. These homologies are~key ingredients in the Duflo--Serganova approach to the representation theory. There were two definitions of defect of Lie superalgebras in the literature with different ranges of application. We suggest a third definition and an easy-to-use way to find its value. In positive characteristic, we found out one more …
We use the language of Lie pseudoalgebras to gain information about the representation theory of the simple infinite-dimensional linearly compact Lie superalgebra of exceptional type $E(5,10)$. This technology allows us to prove that the degree of singular vectors in minimal Verma modules is $\leq 14$. A few technical adjustments allow us to refine the bound, proving that the degree must always be $\leq 12$ and it is actually, except for a finite number of cases, $\leq 10$.
This paper is a resolution of three related problems proposed by Yu. I. Manin and V. Kac for the so-called {\it{exceptional}} Lie superalgebras F(4) and G(3). The first problem posed by Kac (1978) is the problem of finding character and superdimension formulae for the simple modules. The second problem posed by Kac (1978) is the problem of classifying all indecomposable representations. The third problem posed by Manin (1981) is the problem of constructing the {\it{superanalogue}} of Borel-Weil-Bott theorem.
Using tensor categories, we present new constructions of several of the exceptional simple Lie superalgebras with integer Cartan matrix in characteristic $p = 3$ and $p = 5$ from the complete classification of modular Lie superalgebras with indecomposable Cartan matrix and their simple subquotients over algebraically closed fields by Bouarroudj, Grozman, and Leites in 2009. Specifically, let $\mathbfα_p$ denote the kernel of the Frobenius endomorphism on the additive group scheme $\mathbb{G}_a$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$. The Verlinde category $\mathrm{Ver}_p$ is …
For the orthogonal Lie algebra O(2n+1), in addition to the conventional set of orthogonal polynomials, another set is produced with the help of the Lie superalgebra OSP(1|2n). Difficulties related with expression of Dyson's constant for the Lie superalgebras are discussed.
We establish character formulae for representations of the one-parameter family of simple Lie superalgebras $D(2|1;ζ)$. We provide a complete description of the Verma flag multiplicities of the tilting modules and the projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of integral weights, for any complex parameter $ζ$. The composition factors of all Verma modules in $\mathcal O$ are then obtained.
We construct two infinite-dimensional irreducible representations for $D(2,1;α)$: a Schrödinger model and a Fock model. Further, we also introduce an intertwining isomorphism. These representations are similar to the minimal representations constructed for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup and for Hermitian Lie groups of tube type. The intertwining isomorphism is the analogue of the Segal-Bargmann transform for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup and for Hermitian Lie groups of tube type.
We classify all continuous degenerate irreducible modules over the exceptional linearly compact Lie superalgebra E(1, 6), and all finite degenerate irreducible modules over the exceptional Lie conformal superalgebra CK6, for which E(1, 6) is the annihilation algebra.
Let $g$ be an exceptional Lie superalgebra, and let $p$ be the maximal parabolic subalgebra which contains the distinguished Borel subalgebra and has a purely even Levi subalgebra. For any parabolic Verma module in the parabolic category $O^p$, it is shown that the Jantzen filtration is the unique Loewy filtration, and the decomposition numbers of the layers of the filtration are determined by the coefficients of inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. An explicit description of the submodule lattices of the parabolic Verma modules is given, and formulae for characters and dimensions of the finit…
Symplectic (respectively orthogonal) triple systems provide constructions of Lie algebras (resp. superalgebras). However, in characteristic 3, it is shown that this role can be interchanged and that Lie superalgebras (resp. algebras) can be built out of symplectic triple systems (resp. orthogonal triple systems) with a different construction. As a consequence, new simple finite dimensional Lie superalgebras, as well as new models of some nonclassical simple Lie algebras, are obtained over fields of characteristic 3.
Two new simple modular Lie superalgebras are obtained in characteristics 3 and 5, which share the property that their even parts are orthogonal Lie algebras and the odd parts their spin modules. The characteristic 5 case is shown to be related, by means of a construction of Tits, to the exceptional ten dimensional Jordan superalgebra of Kac.
Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$ be a finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebra of type $D(2,1;α)$, $G(3)$ or $F(4)$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $G$ be the simply connected semisimple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$ such that $\mathrm{Lie}(G)=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$. Suppose $e\in\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$ is nilpotent. We describe the centralizer $\mathfrak{g}^{e}$ of $e$ in $\mathfrak{g}$ and its centre $\mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e})$ especially. We also determine the labelled Dynkin diagram for $e$. We prove theorems relating the dimension of $\left(\mathfra…
We introduce the PBW degeneration for basic classical Lie superalgebras and construct for all type I, $\mathfrak{osp}(1,2n)$ and exceptional Lie superalgebras new monomial bases. These bases are parametrized by lattice points in convex lattice polytopes, sharing useful properties such as the integer decomposition property. This paper is the first step towards extending the framework of PBW degenerations to the Lie superalgebra setting.
Freudenthal's Magic Square, which in characteristic 0 contains the exceptional Lie algebras other than G2, is extended over fields of characteristic 3, through the use of symmetric composition superalgebras, to a larger square that contains both Lie algebras and superalgebras. With one exception, the simple Lie superalgebras that appear have no counterpart in characteristic 0.
Over algebraically closed fields of characteristic p>2, prolongations of the simple finite dimensional Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras with Cartan matrix are studied for certain simplest gradings of these algebras. Several new simple Lie superalgebras are discovered, serial and exceptional, including superBrown and superMelikyan superalgebras. Simple Lie superalgebras with Cartan matrix of rank 2 are classified.
An algorithm for embedding finite dimensional Lie algebras into Lie algebras of vector fields (and Lie superalgebras into Lie superalgebras of vector fields) is offered in a way applicable over ground fields of any characteristic. The algorithm is illustrated by reproducing Cartan's interpretations of the Lie algebra of G(2) as the Lie algebra that preserves certain non-integrable distributions. Similar algorithm and interpretation are applicable to other exceptional simple Lie algebras, as well as to all non-exceptional simple ones and many non-simple ones, and to many Lie superalgebras.
We present a geometric construction of the exceptional Lie algebras F4 and E8 starting from the round 8- and 15-spheres, respectively, inspired by the construction of the Killing superalgebra of a supersymmetric supergravity background. (There is no supergravity in the paper.)
We classify blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of modules of non-integral weights for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $G(3)$. We compute the characters for tilting modules of non-integral weights in $\mathcal O$. Reduction methods are established to connect non-integral blocks of $G(3)$ with blocks of the special linear Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$, the exceptional Lie algebra $G_2$, the general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$, $\mathfrak{gl}(2|1)$ and the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(3|2)$.
Recently, Grozman and Leites returned to the original Cartan's description of Lie algebras to interpret the Melikyan algebras (for p<7) and several other little-known simple Lie algebras over algebraically closed fields for p=3 as subalgebras of Lie algebras of vector fields preserving nonintegrable distributions analogous to (or identical with) those preserved by G(2), O(7), Sp(4) and Sp(10). The description was performed in terms of Cartan-Tanaka-Shchepochkina prolongs using Shchepochkina's algorithm and with the help of SuperLie package. Grozman and Leites also found two new series of simpl…
We construct a duality functor in the category of continuous representations of the Lie superalgebra E(4,4), the only exceptional simple linearly compact Lie superalgebra, for which it wasn't known. This is achieved by constructing a Lie conformal superalgebra of type (4,4), for which E(4,4) is the annihilation algebra. Along the way we obtain an explicit realization of E(4,4) by vector fields on a (4|4)-dimensional supermanifold.
Let $A$ be an associative simple (central) superalgebra over ${\mathbb C}$ and $L$ an invariant linear functional on it (trace). Let $a\mapsto a^t$ be an antiautomorphism of $A$ such that $(a^t)^ t=(-1)^{p(a)}a$, where $p(a)$ is the parity of $a$, and let $L(a^t)=L(a)$. Then $A$ admits a nondegenerate supersymmetric invariant bilinear form $\langle a, b\rangle=L(ab^t)$. For $A=U({\mathfrak{sl}}(2))/{\mathfrak{m}}$, where ${\mathfrak{m}}$ is any maximal ideal of $U({\mathfrak{sl}}(2))$, Leites and I have constructed orthogonal basis in $A$ whose elements turned out to be, essentially, Chebyshev…
We present a classification of all spherical indecomposable representations of classical and exceptional Lie superalgebras. We also include information about stabilizers, symmetric algebras, and Borels for which sphericity is achieved. In one such computation, the symmetric algebra of the standard module of $\mathfrak{osp}(m|2n)$ is computed, which in particular gives the representation-theoretic structure of polynomials on the complex supersphere.
The analogs of Chevalley generators are offered for simple (and close to them) Z-graded complex Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras of polynomial growth without Cartan matrix. We show how to derive the defining relations between these generators and explicitly write them for a "most natural" ("distinguished" in terms of Penkov and Serganova) system of simple roots. The results are given mainly for Lie superalgebras whose component of degree zero is a Lie algebra (other cases being left to the reader). Observe presentations of exceptional Lie superalgebras and Lie superalgebras of hamiltonian ve…
Finite dimensional modular Lie superalgebras over algebraically closed fields with indecomposable Cartan matrices are classified under some technical, most probably inessential, hypotheses. If the Cartan matrix is invertible, the corresponding Lie superalgebra is simple otherwise the quotient of the derived Lie superalgebra modulo center is simple (if its rank is greater than 1). Eleven new exceptional simple modular Lie superalgebras are discovered. Several features of classic notions, or notions themselves, are clarified or introduced, e.g., Cartan matrix, several versions of restrictedness …
We define and describe simple complex Lie superalgbras of vector fields on "supercircles" - simple stringy superalgebras. There are four series of such algebras and four exceptional stringy superalgebras. The 13 of the simple stringy Lie superalgebras are distinguished: only they have nontrivial central extensions; since two of the distinguish algebras have 3 nontrivial central extensions each, there are exactly 16 superizations of the Liouville action, Schroedinger equation, KdV hierarchy, etc. We also present the three nontrivial cocycles on the N=4 extended Neveu-Schwarz and Ramond superalg…
The exceptional infinite-dimensional linearly compact simple Lie superalgebra ${E}(5,10)$, which Kac believes, is the algebra of symmetries of the ${SU}_{5}$ Grand Unified Model. In this paper, we give a proof of Kac and Rudakov's conjecture about the classification of all the degenerate generalized Verma module over ${E}(5,10)$. Also, we work out all the nontrivial singular vectors degree by degree. It is a potential that the representation theory of ${E}(5,10)$ will shed new light on various features of the the ${SU}_{5}$ Grand unified model.
We construct a Fock model of the minimal representation of the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1, α)$. Explicit expressions for the action are given by integrating to group level a Fock model of the Lie superalgebra $D(2,1, α)$ constructed earlier by the authors. It is also shown that the representation is superunitary in the sense of de Goursac--Michel.
In this paper we describe an approach to generalise minimal representations to the super setting for Lie superalgebras obtained from Jordan superalgebras using the TKK construction. This approach was used successfully to construct a Fock model, a Schrödinger model and intertwining Segal-Bargmann transform for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup $\mathop{OSp}(p,q|2n)$ and the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1;α)$. We also describe some obstacles to use this approach for the periplectic and queer Lie superalgebras.
In the framework of algebraic supergeometry, we give a construction of the scheme-theoretic supergeometric analogue of Chevalley groups, namely affine algebraic supergroups associated to simple Lie superalgebras of classical type. In particular both basic (even exceptional) and strange cases are covered. This provides a unified approach to most of the algebraic supergroups considered so far in literature, and an effective method to construct new ones. As an intermediate step, we prove an existence theorem for Chevalley bases of simple classical Lie superalgebras and a PBW-like theorem for thei…
We study modular invariance of normalized supercharacters of tame integrable modules over an affine Lie superalgebra, associated to an arbitrary basic Lie superalgebra $ \mathfrak{g}. $ For this we develop a several step modification process of multivariable mock theta functions, where at each step a Zwegers' type "modifier" is used. We show that the span of the resulting modified normalized supercharacters is $ SL_2(\mathbb{Z}) $-invariant, with the transformation matrix equal, in the case the Killing form on $\mathfrak{g}$ is non-degenerate, to that for the subalgebra $ \mathfrak{g}^! $ of $…
We consider exceptional vertex operator algebras and vertex operator superalgebras with the property that particular Casimir vectors constructed from the primary vectors of lowest conformal weight are Virasoro descendents of the vacuum. We show that the genus one partition function and characters for simple ordinary modules must satisfy modular linear differential equations. We show the rationality of the central charge and module lowest weights, modularity of solutions, the dimension of each graded space is a rational function of the central charge and that the lowest weight primaries generat…
This is a survey of some recent results on Sapovalov elements and the Jantzen filtration for contragredient Lie superalgebras. The topics covered include the existence and uniqueness of the Sapovalov elements, bounds on the degrees of their coefficients and the behavior of Sapovalov elements when the Borel subalgebra is changed. There is always a unique term whose coefficient has larger degree than any other term. This allows us to define some new highest weight modules. If X is a set of orthogonal isotropic roots and $λ\in h^*$ is such that $λ+ρ$ is orthogonal to all roots in X, we construct …
Let \mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}} be a basic classical Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field \mathbb{K} whose characteristic p>0 is a good prime for \mathfrak{g}. Let G_{\bar{0}} be the reductive algebraic group over \mathbb{K} such that \mathrm{Lie}(G_{\bar{0}})=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}. Suppose e\in\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}} is nilpotent. Write \mathfrak{g}^{e} for the centralizer of e in \mathfrak{g} and \mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e}) for the centre of \mathfrak{g}^{e}. We calculate a basis for \mathfrak{g}^{e} and \mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e}) by …
In this paper we propose the notion of cluster superalgebras which is a supersymmetric version of the classical cluster algebras introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky. We show that the symplectic-orthogonal supergroup $SpO(2|1)$ admits a cluster superalgebra structure and as a consequence of this, we deduce that the supercommutative superalgebra generated by all the entries of a superfrieze is a subalgebra of a cluster superalgebra. We also show that the coordinate superalgebra of the super Grassmannian $G(2|0; 4|1)$ of chiral conformal superspace (that is, $(2|0)$ planes inside the superspace $\…
Let \mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}} be a basic classical Lie superalgebra over \mathbb{C}, e\in\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}} a nilpotent element and \mathfrak{g}^{e} the centralizer of e in \mathfrak{g}. We study various properties of nilpotent elements in \mathfrak{g}, which have previously only been considered in the case of Lie algebras. In particular, we prove that e is reachable if and only if e satisfies the Panyushev property for \mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}(m|n), m\neq n or \mathfrak{psl}(n|n) and \mathfrak{osp}(m|2n). For exceptional Lie superalgebras \mathfrak{…
We consider supersymmetry in five dimensions, where the fermionic parameters are a 2-form under SL(5). Supermultiplets are investigated using the pure spinor superfield formalism, and are found to be closely related to infinite-dimensional extensions of the supersymmetry algebra: the Borcherds superalgebra ${\scr B}(E_4)$, the tensor hierarchy algebra $S(E_4)$ and the exceptional superalgebra $E(5,10)$. A theorem relating ${\scr B}(E_4)$ and $E(5,10)$ to all levels is given.
If $\mathfrak{g}$ is a contragredient Lie superalgebra and $γ$ is a root of $\mathfrak{g},$ we prove the existence and uniqueness of Šapovalov elements for $γ$ and give upper bounds on the degrees of their coefficients. Then we use Šapovalov elements to define some new highest weight modules. If $X$ is a set of orthogonal isotropic roots and $λ\in \mathfrak{h}^*$ is such that $λ+ρ$ is orthogonal to all roots in $X$, we construct a highest weight module $M^X(λ)$ with character $ε^λ{p}_X$. Here $p_X$ is a function that counts partitions not involving roots in $X$. Examples of such modules can be…
We classify blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of modules of non-integral weights for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $D(2|1;ζ)$. We establish various reduction methods, which connect some types of non-integral blocks of $D(2|1;ζ)$ with integral blocks of general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}{(1|1)}$ and $\mathfrak{gl}{(2|1)}$. We compute the characters for irreducible $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of non-integral weights in $\mathcal O$.
In the first part of my talk I will explain a solution to the extension of Lie's problem on classification of "local continuous transformation groups of a finite-dimensional manifold" to the case of supermanifolds. (More precisely, the problem is to classify simple linearly compact Lie superalgebras, i.e. toplogical Lie superalgebras whose underlying space is a topological product of finite-dimensional vector spaces). In the second part I will explain how this result is used in a classification of superconformal algebras. The list consists of affine superalgebras and certain super extensions o…
For modular Lie superalgebras, new notions are introduced: Divided power homology and divided power cohomology. For illustration, we give presentations (in terms of analogs of Chevalley generators) of finite dimensional Lie (super)algebras with indecomposable Cartan matrix in characteristic 2 (and in other characteristics for completeness of the picture). We correct the currently available in the literature notions of Chevalley generators and Cartan matrix in the modular and super cases, and an auxiliary notion of the Dynkin diagram. In characteristic 2, the defining relations of simple classi…
We formulate the transfer factor of character lifting from orthogonal groups to symplectic groups by Adams in the framework of symplectic Dirac cohomology for the Lie superalgebras and the Rittenberg-Scheunert correspondence of representations of the Lie superalgebra $\fro\frsp(1|2n)$ and the Lie algebra $\fro(2n+1)$. This leads to formulation of a direct lifting of characters from the linear symplectic group $Sp(2n,\bbR)$ to its nonlinear covering metaplectic group $Mp(2n,\bbR)$.
We study the ideal of maximal minors in Littlewood varieties, a class of quadratic complete intersections in spaces of matrices. We give a geometric construction for a large class of modules, including all powers of this ideal, and show that they have a linear free resolution over the complete intersection and that their Koszul dual is an infinite-dimensional irreducible representation of the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra. We calculate the algebra of cohomology operators acting on this free resolution. We prove analogous results for powers of the ideals of maximal minors in the variety of l…
