Let $\mathbf{G}$ be an algebraic group over a local field $\mathbf k$ of characteristic zero. We show that the locally compact group $\mathbf G(\mathbf k)$ consisting of the $\mathbf k$-rational points of $\mathbf G$ is of type I. Moreover, we complete Lipsman's characterization of the groups $\mathbf G$ for which every irreducible unitary representation of $\mathbf G(\mathbf k)$ is a CCR representation and show at the same time that such groups $\mathbf G(\mathbf k)$ are trace class as studied recently by Deitmar and van Dijk.
We construct unitary intertwiners for degenerate C*-algebraic universal principal series of SL(n+1) over a local field by explicitely normalizing standard intertwining integrals a the level of Hilbert modules.
We examine from an algebraic point of view some families of unitary group representations that arise in mathematical physics and are associated to contraction families of Lie groups. The contraction families of groups relate different real forms of a reductive group and are continuously parametrized, but the unitary representations are defined over a parameter subspace that includes both discrete and continuous parts. Both finite- and infinite-dimensional representations can occur, even within the same family. We shall study the simplest nontrivial examples, and use the concepts of algebraic f…
We analyze the abstract representations of the groups of rational points of even-dimensional quasi-split special unitary groups associated with quadratic field extensions. We show that, under certain assumptions, such representations have a standard description, as predicted by a conjecture of Borel and Tits. Our method extends the approach introduced by the first author to study abstract representations of Chevalley groups and is based on the construction and analysis of a certain algebraic ring associated to a given abstract representation.
In a "naive" attempt to create algebraic quantum field theories on the circle, we obtain a family of unitary representations of Thompson's groups T and F for any subfactor. The Thompson group elements are the "local scale transformations" of the theory. In a simple case the coefficients of the representations are polynomial invariants of links. We show that all links arise and introduce new "oriented" subgroups $\overrightarrow F <F$ and $\overrightarrow T< T$ which allow us to produce all \emph{oriented} knots and links.
Inspired by Ol'shanskii's work, we provide an axiomatic framework to describe certain irreducible unitary representations of non-discrete unimodular totally disconnected locally compact groups. We then look at the applications to certain groups of automorphisms of locally finite trees and semi-regular right-angled buildings.
The irreducible decomposition of a unitary representation often contains continuous spectrum when restricted to a non-compact subgroup. The author singles out a nice class of branching problems where each irreducible summand occurs discretely with finite multiplicity (admissible restrictions). Basic theory and new perspectives of admissible restrictions are presented from both analytic and algebraic view points. We also discuss some applications of admissible restrictions to modular varieties and $L^p$-harmonic analysis.
We consider the class of groups called identity excluding which has the property that any non-trivial irreducible unitary representation restricted to a dense subgroup does not weakly contain the trivial representation. For adapted and strictly aperiodic probability measures on these groups, it is known that the averages of unitary representations converge strongly. We show that motion group of a totally disconnected nilpotent group and certain class of p-adic algebraic groups which includes gruops whose solvable radical is type R are identity excluding. We also prove the convergence of averag…
Let $G$ be a complex connected simple algebraic group with a fixed real form $σ$. Let $G(\mathbb{R})=G^σ$ be the corresponding group of real points. This paper reports a finiteness theorem for the classification of irreducible unitary Harish-Chandra modules of $G(\mathbb{R})$ (up to equivalence) having non-vanishing Dirac cohomology. Moreover, we study the distribution of the spin norm along Vogan pencils for certain $G(\mathbb{R})$, with particular attention paid to the unitarily small convex hull introduced by Salamanca-Riba and Vogan.
This is a largely expository article based on our previous work on arithmetic diagonal cycles on unitary Shimura varieties. We define a class of Shimura varieties closely related to unitary groups which represent a moduli problem of abelian varieties with additional structure, and which admit interesting algebraic cycles. We generalize to arbitrary signature type the results of our previous work valid under special signature conditions. We compare our Shimura varieties with other unitary Shimura varieties.
We prove a structure theorem for finite-dimensional indefinite-signature metric 3-Lie algebras admitting a maximally isotropic centre. This algebraic condition indicates that all the negative-norm states in the associated Bagger-Lambert theory can be consistently decoupled from the physical Hilbert space. As an immediate application of the theorem, new examples beyond index 2 are constructed. The lagrangian for the Bagger-Lambert theory based on a general physically admissible 3-Lie algebra of this kind is obtained. Following an expansion around a suitable vacuum, the precise relationship betw…
Following Roberts' work in the case of orthogonal-symplectic similitude dual pairs, we study the local theta correspondence for unitary similitude dual pairs over a $p$-adic field.
In this paper, we prove a conjecture of Wei Zhang on comparison of certain local spherical characters from which we draw some consequences for the Ichino-Ikeda conjecture for unitary groups.
In this paper, we extend our result on a depth preserving property of the local Langlands correspondence for quasi-split unitary groups (arXiv:1804.10901) to non-quasi-split unitary groups by using the local theta correspondence. The key ingredients are a depth preserving property of the local theta correspondence proved by Pan and a description of the local theta correspondence via the local Langlands correspondence established by Gan--Ichino. To combine them, we compare splittings for metaplectic covers of unitary groups constructed by Kudla with those constructed by Pan.
Governed by locality, we explore a connection between unitary braid group representations associated to a unitary $R$-matrix and to a simple object in a unitary braided fusion category. Unitary $R$-matrices, namely unitary solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation, afford explicitly local unitary representations of braid groups. Inspired by topological quantum computation, we study whether or not it is possible to reassemble the irreducible summands appearing in the unitary braid group representations from a unitary braided fusion category with possibly different positive multiplicities to get rep…
In this paper, we establish the theory of local newforms for irreducible tempered generic representations of unramified odd unitary groups over a non-archimedean local field. For the proof, we prove an analogue of the fundamental lemma for our compact groups.
In this paper we present the generating function method for the derivation of bosons polynomials of Gel'fand basis and Wigner coefficients for the canonical basis of SU(n). We find a new analytic polynomial basis of SU(4) with the exact number of summations, five only. We find also a new algebraic expression of Wigner coefficient with multiplicity for the canonical basis and the isoscalors factors of SU (3) with only. three summations.
We find the irreducible decomposition of the Weil representation of the unitary group $\mathrm{U}_{2n}(A)$, where $A$ is a ramified quadratic extension of a finite, commutative, local, principal ideal ring $R$ and the nilpotency degree of the maximal ideal of $A$ is odd. We show in particular that this Weil representation is multiplicity free. Restriction to the special unitary group $\mathrm{SU}_{2n}(A)$ preserves irreducibility and multiplicity freeness provided $n>1$.
The p-adic local Langlands correspondence for GL2(Qp) attaches to any 2-dimensional irreducible p-adic representation V of the absolute Galois groups of Qp an admissible unitary representation Pi(V) of GL2(Qp). The unitary principal series of GL2(Qp) are those Pi(V) corresponding to trianguline representations. In this article, for p>2, using the machinery of Colmez, we determine the space of locally analytic vectors for all non-exceptional unitary principal series of GL2(Qp) by proving a conjecture of Emerton.
In this paper, we obtain explicit branching laws for all irreducible unitary representations of $\Spin(N,1)$ restricted to a parabolic subgroup $P$. The restriction turns out to be a finite direct sum of irreducible unitary representations of $P$. We also verify Duflo's conjecture for the branching law of tempered representations of $\Spin(N,1)$ with respect to a parabolic subgroup $P$. That is to show: in the framework of the orbit method, the branching law of a tempered representation is determined by the behavior of the moment map from the corresponding coadjoint orbit. A few key tools used…
We study Whittaker--Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on a quasi-split unitary group. We reduce the analogue of the Ichino--Ikeda conjectures to a conjectural local statement using the descent method of Ginzburg--Rallis--Soudry.
Locally affine Lie algebras are generalizations of affine Kac--Moody algebras with Cartan subalgebras of infinite rank whose root system is locally affine. In this note we study a class of representations of locally affine algebras generalizing integrable highest weight modules. In particular, we construct such an integrable representation for each integral weight not vanishing on the center and show that, over the complex numbers, we thus obtain unitary representations w.r.t. a unitary real form. We also use Yoshii's recent classification of locally affine root systems to derive a classificat…
Using the theta correspondence, we extend the classification of irreducible representations of quasi-split unitary groups (the so-called local Langlands correspondence, which was established in an early paper of Mok) to non quasi-split unitary groups. We also prove that our classification satisfies some good properties, which characterize it uniquely. In particular, this provides an alternative approach to the works of Kaletha-Minguez-Shin-White and Moeglin-Renard.
We consider the local multiplicity problems of the analogy of the Ginzburg-Rallis model for the unitary group and the unitary similitude group cases. For the unitary similitude group case, by proving a local trace formula for the model, we are able to prove a multiplicity formula for all tempered representations, which implies that the summation of the multiplicities is equal to $1$ over every tempered local Vogan $L$-packet. For the unitary group case, we also prove a multiplicity formula for all tempered representations which implies that the summation of the multiplicities is equal to $2$ o…
