We prove second and fourth order improved Poincaré type inequalities on the hyperbolic space involving Hardy-type remainder terms. Since theirs l.h.s. only involve the radial part of the gradient or of the laplacian, they can be seen as stronger versions of the classical Poincaré inequality. We show that such inequalities hold true on model manifolds as well, under suitable curvature assumptions and sharpness of some constants is also discussed.
The aim of this note is to show that Poincaré inequalities imply corresponding weighted versions in a quite general setting. Fractional Poincaré inequalities are considered, too. The proof is short and does not involve covering arguments.
We show that a class of Poincaré-Wirtinger inequalities on bounded convex sets can be obtained by means of the dynamical formulation of Optimal Transport. This is a consequence of a more general result valid for convex sets, possibly unbounded.
We study Hardy-type inequalities on infinite homogeneous trees. More precisely, we derive optimal Hardy weights for the combinatorial Laplacian in this setting and we obtain, as a consequence, optimal improvements for the Poincaré inequality.
In this note, we establish a $L^p-$version of the Poincaré--Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$. The interest of this result is that it relates both the Poincaré (or Hardy) inequality and the Sobolev inequality with the sharp constant in $\mathbb H^n$. Our approach is based on the comparison of the $L^p-$norm of gradient of the symmetric decreasing rearrangement of a function in both the hyperbolic space and the Euclidean space, and the sharp Sobolev inequalities in Euclidean spaces. This approach also gives the proof of the Poincaré--Gagliardo--Nirenberg and Poincaré--…
In a previous paper we developed a new method to obtain symmetrization inequalities of Sobolev type for functions in $W_{0}^{1,1}(Ω)$. In this paper we extend our method to Sobolev functions that do not vanish at the boundary.
We provide sufficient conditions for boundary Hardy inequality to hold in bounded Lipschitz domains, complement of a point (the so-called point Hardy inequality), domain above the graph of a Lipschitz function, the complement of a bounded Lipschitz domain in fractional Orlicz-Sobolev setting. As a consequence, we get sufficient conditions for regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequality in bounded Lipschitz domains. Necessary conditions for fractional Orlicz Hardy and regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequalities are also given for bounded Lipschitz domains. Various sufficient conditions …
In this paper we study Hardy and Poincaré inequalities and their weak versions for quadratic forms satisfying the first Beurling-Deny criterion. We employ these inequalities to establish a criticality theory for such forms.
We show that fractional (p,p)-Poincaré inequalities and even fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities hold for bounded John domains, and especially for bounded Lipschitz domains. We also prove sharp fractional (1,p)-Poincaré inequalities for s-John domains.
In this paper we establish improved Hardy and Rellich type inequalities on Riemannian manifold $M$. Furthermore, we also obtain sharp constant for the improved Hardy inequality and explicit constant for the Rellich inequality on hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^n$.
By using quasi-Banach techniques as key ingredient we prove Poincaré- and Sobolev- type inequalities for $m$-subharmonic functions with finite $(p,m)$-energy. A consequence of the Sobolev type inequality is a partial confirmation of Błocki's integrability conjecture for $m$-subharmonic functions.
We use the characterization of weak type inequalities via Garsia-Rodemich conditions to show self improving properties of Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities in a very general context.
Using a method of Korobenko, Maldonado and Rios we show a new characterization of doubling metric-measure spaces supporting Poincaré inequalities without assuming a priori that the measure is doubling.
In this paper we obtain the non-asymptotic inequalities of Poincare type between function and its weak gradient belonging the so-called Bilateral Grand Lebesgue Spaces over general metric measurable space. We also prove the sharpness of these inequalities.
We continue our previous study of improved Hardy, Rellich and Uncertainty principle inequalities on a Riemannian manifold $M$, started in \cite{Kombe-Ozaydin}. In the present paper we prove new weighted Hardy-Poincaré, Rellich type inequalities as well as improved version of our Uncertainty principle inequalities on a Riemannian manifold $M$. In particular, we obtain sharp constants for these inequalities on the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^n$.
Weighted fractional Poincaré-type inequalities are proved on John domains whenever the weights defined on the domain are depending on the distance to the boundary and to an arbitrary compact set in the boundary of the domain.
In this paper we obtain the non - asymptotic estimations of Poincare type between function and its gradient in the so - called Bilateral Grand Lebesgue Spaces. We also give some examples to show the sharpness of these inequalities.
In this paper we investigate Poincaré-type integral inequalities in the functional Musielak structure. We extend the ones already well known in Sobolev, Orlicz and variable exponent Sobolev spaces. We introduce conditions on the Musielak functions under which they hold. The identification with null trace functions space is given.
We prove a local $L^p$-Poincaré inequality, $1\leq p < \infty$, on noncompact Lie groups endowed with a sub-Riemannian structure. We show that the constant involved grows at most exponentially with respect to the radius of the ball, and that if the group is nondoubling, then its growth is indeed, in general, exponential. We also prove a nonlocal $L^2$-Poincaré inequality with respect to suitable finite measures on the group.
We consider integral inequalities in the sense of Choquet with respect to the Hausdorff content $\mathcal{H}_\infty^δ$. In particular, if $Ω$ is a bounded John domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 2$, and $0 <δ\le n$, we prove that the corresponding $(δp/(δ-p),p)$-Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities hold for all continuously differentiable functions defined on $Ω$ whenever $δ/n < p < δ$. We prove also that the $(p,p)$-Poincaré inequality is valid for all $p>δ/n$.
In this paper, we study the sharp Poincaré inequality and the Sobolev inequalities in the higher order Lorentz--Sobolev spaces in the hyperbolic spaces. These results generalize the ones obtained in \cite{Nguyen2020a} to the higher order derivatives and seem to be new in the context of the Lorentz--Sobolev spaces defined in the hyperbolic spaces.
Let $G$ be a real connected Lie group with polynomial volume growth, endowed with its Haar measure $dx$. Given a $C^2$ positive function $M$ on $G$, we give a sufficient condition for an $L^2$ Poincaré inequality with respect to the measure $M(x)dx$ to hold on $G$. We then establish a non-local Poincaré inequality on $G$ with respect to $M(x)dx$.
We observe some higher order Poincare-type inequalities on a closed manifold, which is inspired by Hurwitz's proof of the Wirtinger's inequality using Fourier theory. We then give some geometric implication of these inequalities by applying them on the sphere. More specifically, by applying them to the support function of a convex hypersurface in the Euclidean space, we obtain some sharp Minkowski-type inequalities, such as a stability inequality for the classical Minkowski inequality and the Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality.
With direct and simple proofs, we establish Poincaré type inequalities (including Poincaré inequalities, weak Poincaré inequalities and super Poincaré inequalities), entropy inequalities and Beckner-type inequalities for non-local Dirichlet forms. The proofs are efficient for non-local Dirichlet forms with general jump kernel, and also work for $L^p (p>1)$ settings. Our results yield a new sufficient condition for fractional Poincaré inequalities, which were recently studied in \cite{MRS,Gre}. To our knowledge this is the first result providing entropy inequalities and Beckner-type inequalitie…
Poincar{é} and Sobolev inequalities for differential forms on Heisenberg balls, involving Rumin's differentials, are given. Furthermore, a global homotopy of Rumin's complex which improves differentiability of Rumin forms is provided on any bounded geometry contact manifold.
We prove Lp Poincare inequalities for functions on the discrete cube and their discrete gradient. We thus recover an exponential inequality and the concentration phenomenon for the uniform probability on the cube first obtained by Bobkov and Gotze. Inequalities involving the discrete gradient and powers of the discrete Laplacian are also considered, for the Lp norm or more general ones. Similar results hold true, replacing functions on the cube by elements of the CAR algebra and considering the annihilation operators and the number operator.
We present an argument which leads from the Brunn-Minkowski inequality to a Poincare' type inequality on the boundary of convex bodies with smooth boundary and positive Gauss curvature
We prove the existence of minimizers for some constrained variational problems on $BV(Ω)$, under subcritical and critical restrictions, involving the affine energy introduced by Zhang in \cite{Z}. Related functionals have non-coercive geometry and properties like semicontinuity and affine compactness are deeper in the weak* topology. As a by-product of the theory, extremal functions are shown to exist for various affine Poincaré-Sobolev type inequalities.
If Poincar{é} inequality has been studied by Bobkov for radial measures, few is known about the logarithmic Sobolev inequalty in the radial case. We try to fill this gap here using different methods: Bobkov's argument and super-Poincar{é} inequalities, direct approach via L1-logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We also give various examples where the obtained bounds are quite sharp. Recent bounds obtained by Lee-Vempala in the logconcave bounded case are refined for radial measures.
We prove, using optimal transport tools, weighted Poincar'e inequalities for log-concave random vectors satisfying some centering conditions. We recover by this way similar results by Klartag and Barthe-Cordero-Erausquin for log-concave random vectors with symmetries. In addition, we prove that the variance conjecture is true for increments of log-concave martingales.
We study Poincar{é} inequalities and long-time behavior for diffusion processes on R^n under a variable curvature lower bound, in the sense of Bakry-Emery. We derive various estimates on the rate of convergence to equilibrium in L^1 optimal transport distance, as well as bounds on the constant in the Poincar{é} inequality in several situations of interest, including some where curvature may be negative. In particular, we prove a self-improvement of the Bakry-Emery estimate for Poincar{é} inequalities when curvature is positive but not constant.
We prove that if a super-Poincaré inequality is satisfied by an infinitesimal generator $-A$ of a symmetric contracting semigroup then it implies a corresponding super-Poincaré inequality for $-g(A)$ with any Bernstein function $g$. We also study the converse statement. We deduce similar results for the Nash-type inequality. Our results applied to fractional powers of $A$ and to $\log(I+A)$ and thus generalize some results of Biroli and Maheux, and Wang 2007. We provide several examples.
We investigate the possibility of improving the $p$-Poincaré inequality $\|\nabla_{\mathbb{H}^N} u\|_p \ge Λ_p \|u\|_p$ on the hyperbolic space, where $p>2$ and $Λ_p:=[(N-1)/p]^{p}$ is the best constant for which such inequality holds. We prove several different, and independent, improved inequalities, one of which is a Poincaré-Hardy inequality, namely an improvement of the best $p$-Poincaré inequality in terms of the Hardy weight $r^{-p}$, $r$ being geodesic distance from a given pole. Certain Hardy-Maz'ya-type inequalities in the Euclidean half-space are also obtained.
We prove Poincaré and Plancherel-Polya inequalities for weighted {\ell}p -spaces on weighted graphs in which the constants are explicitly expressed in terms of some geometric characteristics of a graph. We use Poincaré type inequality to obtain some new relations between geometric and spectral properties of the combinatorial Laplace operator. Several well known graphs are considered to demonstrate that our results are reasonably sharp. The Plancherel-Polya inequalities allow for application of the frame algo- rithm as a method for reconstruction of Paley-Wiener functions on weighted graphs fro…
We study compactness and boundedness of embeddings from Sobolev type spaces on metric spaces into $L^q$ spaces with respect to another measure. The considered Sobolev spaces can be of fractional order and some statements allow also nondoubling measures. Our results are formulated in a general form, using sequences of covering families and local Poincaré type inequalities. We show how to construct such suitable coverings and Poincaré inequalities. For locally doubling measures, we prove a self-improvement property for two-weighted Poincaré inequalities, which applies also to lower-dimensional m…
Firstly, we derive in dimension one a new covariance inequality of $L_{1}-L_{\infty}$ type that characterizes the isoperimetric constant as the best constant achieving the inequality. Secondly, we generalize our result to $L_{p}-L_{q}$ bounds for the covariance. Consequently, we recover Cheeger's inequality without using the co-area formula. We also prove a generalized weighted Hardy type inequality that is needed to derive our covariance inequalities and that is of independent interest. Finally, we explore some consequences of our covariance inequalities for $L_{p}$-Poincaré inequalities and …
Let $G$ be a countable discrete group with an orthogonal representation $α$ on a real Hilbert space $H$. We prove $L_p$ Poincaré inequalities for the group measure space $L_\infty(Ω_H,γ)\rtimes G$, where both the group action and the Gaussian measure space $(Ω_H, γ)$ are associated with the representation $α$. The idea of proof comes from Pisier's method on the boundedness of Riesz transform and Lust-Piquard's work on spin systems. Then we deduce a transportation type inequality from the $L_p$ Poincaré inequalities in the general noncommutative setting. This inequality is sharp up to a constan…
We propose a new method for obtaining Poincare-type inequalities on arbitrary convex bodies in R^n. Our technique involves a dual version of Bochner's formula and a certain moment map, and it also applies to some non-convex sets. In particular, we generalize the central limit theorem for convex bodies to a class of non-convex domains, including the unit balls of L_p-spaces in R^n for 0 < p < 1.
We prove that for a probability measure on $\mathbb{R}^n$, the Poincaré inequality for convex functions is equivalent to the weak transportation inequality with a quadratic-linear cost. This generalizes recent results by Gozlan et al. and Feldheim et al., concerning probability measures on the real line. The proof relies on modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities of Bobkov-Ledoux type for convex and concave functions, which are of independent interest. We also present refined concentration inequalities for general (not necessarily Lipschitz) convex functions, complementing recent results by …
Let $V\in C^2(\R^d)$ such that $μ_V(\d x):= \e^{-V(x)}\,\d x$ is a probability measure, and let $å\in (0,2)$. Explicit criteria are presented for the $å$-stable-like Dirichlet form $$\E_{å,V}(f,f):= \int_{\R^d\times\R^d} \ff{|f(x)-f(y)|^2}{|x-y|^{d+α}}\,\d y\,\e^{-V(x)}\,\d x$$ to satisfy Poincaré-type (i.e., Poincaré, weak Poincaré and super Poincaré) inequalities. As applications, sharp functional inequalities are derived for the Dirichlet form with $V$ having some typical growths. Finally, the main result of \cite{MRS} on the Poincaré inequality is strengthened
We employ weak hypocoercivity methods to study the long-term behavior of operator semigroups generated by degenerate Kolmogorov operators with variable second-order coefficients, which solve the associated abstract Cauchy problem. We prove essential m-dissipativity of the operator, which extends previous results and is key to the rigorous analysis required. We give estimates for the $L^2$-convergence rate by using weak Poincaré inequalities. As an application, we obtain estimates for the (sub-)exponential convergence rate of solutions to the corresponding degenerate Fokker-Planck equations and…
In this paper we prove that several natural approaches to Sobolev spaces coincide on the Vicsek fractal. More precisely, we show that the metric approach of Korevaar-Schoen, the approach by limit of discrete $p$-energies and the approach by limit of Sobolev spaces on cable systems all yield the same functional space with equivalent norms for $p>1$. As a consequence we prove that the Sobolev spaces form a real interpolation scale. We also obtain $L^p$-Poincaré inequalities for all values of $p \ge 1$.
We prove a deviation inequality for noncommutative martingales by extending Oliveira's argument for random matrices. By integration we obtain a Burkholder type inequality with satisfactory constant. Using continuous time, we establish noncommutative Poincaré type inequalities for "nice" semigroups with a positive curvature condition. These results allow us to prove a general deviation inequality and a noncommutative transportation inequality due to Bobkov and Götze in the commutative case. To demonstrate our setting is general enough, we give various examples, including certain group von Neuma…
By adapting some ideas of M. Ledoux \cite{ledoux2}, \cite{ledoux-stflour} and \cite{Led} to a sub-Riemannian framework we study Sobolev, Poincaré and isoperimetric inequalities associated to subelliptic diffusion operators that satisfy the generalized curvature dimension inequality that was introduced by F. Baudoin and N. Garofalo in \cite{Bau2}. Our results apply in particular on all CR Sasakian manifolds whose horizontal Webster-Tanaka-Ricci curvature is non negative, all Carnot groups with step two, and wide subclasses of principal bundles over Riemannian manifolds whose Ricci curvature is …
We prove some results about the super Poincaré inequality (SPI) and its relation to the spectrum of an operator: we show that it can be alternatively written with Orlicz norms instead of L1 norms, and we use this to give an alternative proof that a bound on the bottom of the essential spectrum implies a SPI. Finally, we apply these ideas to give a spectral proof of the log Sobolev inequality for the Gaussian measure.
