We give a notion of "combinatorial proximity" among strongly stable ideals in a given polynomial ring with a fixed Hilbert polynomial. We show that this notion guarantees "geometric proximity" of the corresponding points in the Hilbert scheme. We define a graph whose vertices correspond to strongly stable ideals and whose edges correspond to pairs of adjacent ideals. Every term order induces an orientation of the edges of the graph. This directed graph describes the behavior of the points of the Hilbert scheme under Gröbner degenerations with respect to the given term order.
Then, we introduce a polyhedral fan that we call Gröbner fan of the Hilbert scheme. Each cone of maximal dimension corresponds to a different directed graph induced by a term order. This fan encodes several properties of the Hilbert scheme. We use these tools to present a new proof of the connectedness of the Hilbert scheme. Finally, we improve the technique introduced in the paper "Double-generic initial ideal and Hilbert scheme" by Bertone, Cioffi and Roggero to give a lower bound on the number of irreducible components of the Hilbert scheme.
Let $G$ be a finite abelian subgroup of $PGL(r-1,K)=\mathrm{Aut}(¶^{r-1}_K)$. In this paper, we prove that the normalization of the $G$-orbit Hilbert scheme $\Hilb^G(¶^{r-1})$ is described as a toric variety, which corresponds to the Gröbner fan for some homogeneous ideal $I$ of $K[x_1, ..., x_r]$.
For fixed degree $d\leq 12$, we study the Hilbert scheme of degree $d$ smooth Fano threefolds in their anticanonical embeddings. We use this to classify all possible degenerations of these varieties to toric Fano varieties with at most canonical Gorenstein singularities.
We discuss various results on Hilbert schemes of lines and conics and automorphism groups of smooth Fano threefolds with Picard rank 1. Besides a general review of facts well known to experts, the paper contains some new results, for instance, we give a description of the Hilbert scheme of conics on any smooth Fano threefold of index 1 and genus 10. We also show that the action of the automorphism group of a Fano threefold $X$ of index 2 (respectively, 1) on an irreducible component of its Hilbert scheme of lines (respectively, conics) is faithful if the anticanonical class of $X$ is very ampl…
Let $X^o=\mathbb P^3\setminus D$ where $D$ is the union of two quadrics such that their intersection contains a smooth conic, or the union of a smooth quadric surface and two planes, or the union of a smooth cubic surface $V$ and a plane $Π$ such that the intersection $V\capΠ$ contains a line. In all these cases we show that the set of integral points of $X^o$ is potentially dense. We apply the above results to prove that integral points are potentially dense in some log-Fano or in some log-Calabi-Yau threefold.
In this paper we try to further explore the linear model of the moduli of rational maps. Our attempt yields following results. Let $X\subset \mathbf P^n$ be a generic hypersurface of degree $h$. Let $R_d(X, h)$ denote the open set of the Hilbert scheme parameterizing irreducible rational curves of degree $d$ on $X$. We obtain that (1) If $4\leq h\leq n-1$, $R_d(X, h)$ is an integral, local complete intersection of dimension \begin{equation} (n+1-h)d+n-4. \end{equation} (2) If furthermore $(h^2-n)d+h\leq 0$ and $h\geq 4$, in addition to part (1), $R_d(X, h)$ is also rationally connected.
Following Craw, Maclagan, Thomas and Nakamura's work on Hilbert schemes for abelian groups, we give an explicit description of the G-Hilbert scheme for G equal to a cyclic group of order r, acting on C^3 with weights 1,a,r-a. We describe how the combinatorial properties of the fan of G-Hilbert scheme relates to the Euclidean algorithm.
In this paper, we investigate the question of triviality of the rational Chow groups of complete intersections in projective spaces and obtain improved bounds for this triviality to hold. Along the way, we study the dimension and nonemptiness of some Hilbert schemes of fat $r$-planes contained in a complete intersection $Y$, generalizing well-known results on the Fano varieties of $r$-planes contained in $Y$.
We prove that for every smooth prime Fano $3$-fold $V$, the Hilbert scheme $\operatorname{Hilb}^{sc} V$ of smooth connected curves on $V$ contains a generically non-reduced irreducible component of Mumford type. We also study the deformations of degenerate curves $C$ in $V$, i.e., curves $C$ contained in a smooth anti-canonical member $S \in |-K_V|$ of $V$. We give a sufficient condition for $C$ to be stably degenerate, i.e., every small (and global) deformation of $C$ in $V$ is contained in a deformation of $S$ in $V$. As a result, by using the Hilbert-flag scheme of $V$, we determine the dim…
We prove a closed formula for leading Gopakumar- Vafa BPS invariants of local Calabi-Yau geometries given by the canonical line bundles of toric Fano surfaces. It shares some similar features with Goettsche-Yau-Zaslow formula: Connection with Hilbert schemes, connection with quasimodular forms, and quadratic property after suitable transformation. In Part I of this paper we will present the case of projective plane, more general cases will be presented in Part II.
Let $H_{a,b}^n$ denote the component of the Hilbert scheme whose general point parameterizes an $a$-plane union a $b$-plane meeting transversely in $\mathbf{P}^n$. We describe the effective and nef cones of $H_{a,b}^n$ and determine when the component is Fano. Moreover, we show that $H_{a,b}^n$ is a Mori dream space for all values of $a,b,n$.
Let $\mathcal{H}_{a,b}^n$ denote the component of the Hilbert scheme whose general point parameterizes an $a$-plane union a $b$-plane meeting transversely in $\mathbf{P}^n$. We show that $\mathcal{H}_{a,b}^n$ is smooth and isomorphic to successive blow ups of $\mathbf{Gr}(a,n) \times \mathbf{Gr}(b,n)$ or $\text{Sym}^2 \mathbf{Gr}(a,n)$ along certain incidence correspondences. We classify the subschemes parameterized by $\mathcal{H}_{a,b}^n$ and show that this component has a unique Borel fixed point. We also study the birational geometry of this component. In particular, we describe the effect…
Let \X be an affine toric variety under a torus \T and let T be a subtorus. The general T-orbit closures in \X and their flat limits are parametrized by the main component H_0 of the toric Hilbert scheme. Further, the quotient torus \T/T acts on H_0 with a dense orbit. We describe the fan of this toric variety; this leads us to an integral analogue of the fiber polytope of Billera and Sturmfels. We also describe the relation of H_0 to the main component of the inverse limit of GIT quotients of \X by T.
For a finite abelian group G in GL(n,k), we describe the coherent component Y_theta of the moduli space M_theta of theta-stable McKay quiver representations. This is a not-necessarily-normal toric variety that admits a projective birational morphism to A^n/G obtained by variation of GIT quotient. As a special case, this gives a new construction of Nakamura's G-Hilbert scheme that avoids the (typically highly singular) Hilbert scheme of |G|-points in A^n. To conclude, we describe the toric fan of Y_theta and hence calculate the quiver representation corresponding to any point of Y_theta.
We study relations in the Grothendieck ring of varieties which connect the Hilbert scheme of points on a cubic hypersurface $Y$ with a certain moduli space of twisted cubic curves on $Y$. These relations are generalizations of the "beautiful" $Y$-$F(Y)$ relation by Galkin and Shinder which connects $Y$ with the Hilbert scheme of two points on $Y$ and the Fano variety $F(Y)$ of lines on $Y$. We concentrate mostly on the case of cubic surfaces. The symmetries of $27$ lines on a smooth cubic surface give a lot of restrictions on possible forms of the relations.
This paper concerns the recent Virasoro conjecture for the theory of stable pairs on a 3-fold proposed by Oblomkov, Okounkov, Pandharipande and the author in arXiv:2008.12514. Here we extend the conjecture to 3-folds with non-$(p,p)$-cohomology and we prove it in two specializations. For the first specialization, we let $S$ be a simply-connected surface and consider the moduli space $P_n(S\times \mathbb{P}^1, n[\mathbb{P}^1])$, which happens to be isomorphic to the Hilbert scheme $S^{[n]}$ of $n$ points on $S$. The Virasoro constraints for stable pairs, in this case, can be formulated entirely…
We construct an obstruction theory for relative Hilbert schemes in the sense of Behrend-Fantechi and compute it explicitly for relative Hilbert schemes of divisors on smooth projective varieties. In the special case of curves on a surface V, our obstruction theory determines a virtual fundamental class $[[ \Hilb^m_V ]]$, which we use to define Poincare invariants (P^+_V,P^-_V): H^2(V,Z) --> Λ^* H^1(V,Z) x Λ^* H^1(V,Z). These maps are invariant under deformations, satisfy a blow-up formula, and a wall crossing formula for surfaces with $p_g(V)=0$. We determine the invariants completely for rule…
