We study the out-of-time-order correlation (OTOC) of the Floquet transverse Ising model and use it to verify the phase diagram of the system. First, we present the exact analytical solution of the transverse magnetization OTOC using the Jorden-Wigner transformation. We calculate the speed of correlation propagation and analyze the behavior of the revival time with the separation between the observables. In order to get the phase structure of the Floquet transverse Ising system, we use the longitudinal magnetization OTOC as it is known to serve as an order parameter of the system. We show the phase structure numerically in the transverse Ising Floquet system by using the long time average of the longitudinal magnetization OTOC. In both the open and the closed chain systems, we find distinct phases out of which two are paramagnetic (0-paramagnetic and $π$-paramagnetic), and two are ferromagnetic (0-ferromagnetic and $π$-ferromagnetic) as defined in the literature.
We study the time-dependent circuit complexity of the periodically driven transverse field Ising model using Nielsen's geometric approach. In the high-frequency driving limit the system is known to exhibit non-equilibrium phase transitions governed by the amplitude of the driving field. We analytically compute the complexity in this regime and show that it clearly distinguishes between the different phases, exhibiting a universal linear behavior at early times. We also evaluate the time averaged complexity, provide evidence of non-analytic behavior at the critical points, and discuss its origi…
We study characteristic, dynamic, and saturation regimes of the out-of-time-order correlation (OTOC) in the constant field Floquet system with and without longitudinal field. In the calculation of OTOC, we take local spins in longitudinal and transverse directions as observables which are local and non-local in terms of Jordan-Wigner fermions, respectively. We use the exact analytical solution of OTOC for the integrable model (without longitudinal field term) with transverse direction spins as observables and numerical solutions for other integrable and nonintegrable cases. OTOCs generated in …
By means of a Floquet analysis, we study the quantum dynamics of a fully connected Lipkin-Ising ferromagnet in a periodically driven transverse field showing that thermalization in the steady state is intimately connected to properties of the $N\to \infty$ classical Hamiltonian dynamics. When the dynamics is ergodic, the Floquet spectrum obeys a Wigner-Dyson statistics and the system satisfies the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH): Independently of the initial state, local observables relax to the $T=\infty$ thermal value, and Floquet states are delocalized in the Hilbert space. On th…
We give a generalization to an infinite tree geometry of Vidal's infinite time-evolving block decimation (iTEBD) algorithm for simulating an infinite line of quantum spins. We numerically investigate the quantum Ising model in a transverse field on the Bethe lattice using the Matrix Product State ansatz. We observe a second order phase transition, with certain key differences from the transverse field Ising model on an infinite spin chain. We also investigate a transverse field Ising model with a specific longitudinal field. When the transverse field is turned off, this model has a highly dege…
Ground state of the one-dimensional transverse field Ising model is investigated under the hyperbolic deformation, where the energy scale of j-th bond is proportional to the function \cosh ( j λ) that contains a parameter λ. Although the Hamiltonian is position dependent, the ground state is nearly uniform and finitely correlated. We observe the energy cross over between the ordered and disordered state with respect to the transverse field. The model shows first order phase transition, and the discontinuities in the magnetization and entanglement entropy at the transition point detect the Isin…
We investigate the propagation of a local perturbation in the two-dimensional transverse-field Ising model with a time-dependent application of mean-field theory based on the BBGKY hierarchy. We show that the perturbation propagates through the system with a finite velocity and that there is transition from Manhattan to Euclidian metric, resulting in a light cone with an almost circular shape at sufficiently large distances. The propagation velocity of the perturbation defining the front of the light cone is discussed with respect to the parameters of the Hamiltonian and compared to exact resu…
We study the time evolution of the local magnetization in the critical Ising chain in a transverse field after a sudden change of the parameters at a defect. The relaxation of the defect magnetization is algebraic and the corresponding exponent, which is a continuous function of the defect parameters, is calculated exactly. In finite chains the relaxation is oscillating in time and its form is conjectured on the basis of precise numerical calculations.
We present a quantitative semi-classical theory for the non-equilibrium dynamics of transverse Ising chains after quantum quenches, in particular sudden changes of the transverse field strength. We obtain accurate predictions for the quench dependent relaxation times and correlation lengths, and also about the recurrence times and quasiperiodicity of time dependent correlations in finite systems with open or periodic boundary conditions. We compare the quantiative predictions of our semi-classical theory (local magnetization, equal time bulk-bulk and surface-to-bulk correlations, and bulk auto…
Dynamic correlation and response functions of classical and quantum systems in thermal equilibrium are connected by fluctuation-dissipation theorems, which allow an alternative definition of their (unique) temperature. Motivated by this fundamental property, we revisit the issue of thermalization of closed many-body quantum systems long after a sudden quench, focussing on the non-equilibrium dynamics of the Ising chain in a critical transverse field. We show the emergence of distinct observable-dependent effective temperatures, which rule out Gibbs thermalization in a strict sense but might st…
We study the onset of eigenstate thermalization in the two-dimensional transverse field Ising model (2D-TFIM) in the square lattice. We consider two non-equivalent Hamiltonians: the ferromagnetic 2D-TFIM and the antiferromagnetic 2D-TFIM in the presence of a uniform longitudinal field. We use full exact diagonalization to examine the behavior of quantum chaos indicators and of the diagonal matrix elements of operators of interest in the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian. A finite size scaling analysis reveals that quantum chaos and eigenstate thermalization occur in those systems whenever the fie…
We study analytically and numerically quench dynamics and defects formation in the quantum Ising model in the presence of a time-dependent transverse magnetic field. We generalize the Landau-Ziner formula to the case of non-adiabatic evolution of the quantum system. For a quasi-static magnetic field, with a slow dependence on time, our outcomes are similar to the results predicted by the Landau-Zener formula. However, a quench dynamics under a shock-wave load is more complicated. The final state of the system depends on the amplitude and pulse velocity, resulting in the mixture of ground and e…
The transverse-field Ising model is one of the fundamental models in quantum many-body systems, yet a full understanding of its dynamics remains elusive in higher than one dimension. Here, we show for the first time the breakdown of ergodicity in $d$-dimensional Ising models with a weak transverse field in a prethermal regime. We demonstrate that novel Hilbert-space fragmentation occurs in the effective non-integrable model with $d\geq2$ as a consequence of only one emergent global conservation law of the domain wall number. Our results indicate nontrivial initial-state dependence for non-equi…
Starting from an exact formal identity for the two-state transverse Ising model and using correlation inequalities rigorous upper bounds for the critical temperature and the critical transverse field are obtained which improve effective results.
We study a 1D-Quantum Ising Model in transverse field driven out of equilibrium by performing a composite quantum quench to deduce the asymptotic properties of the transverse magnetization stationary state via the analysis of the spectral function. What emerges is that, in correspondence of the dynamical phase transition transition predicted for this model, the spectral function vanishes giving a hint of the criticality. This result suggests also that linear response experiment can be used to detect this kind of phase transition.
We demonstrate the feasibility of ground state preparation for the transverse Ising model using projective cooling, and show that the algorithm can effectively construct the ground state in the disordered (paramagnetic) phase. On the other hand, significant temperature effects are encountered in the ordered (ferromagnetic) phase requiring larger lattices to accurately simulate.
Energy eigenvalues and order parameters are calculated by exact diagonalization for the transverse Ising model on square lattices of up to 6x6 sites. Finite-size scaling is used to estimate the critical parameters of the model, confirming universality with the three-dimensional classical Ising model. Critical amplitudes are also estimated for both the energy gap and the ground-state energy.
The scaling behavior of the entanglement entropy in the two-dimensional random transverse field Ising model is studied numerically through the strong disordered renormalization group method. We find that the leading term of the entanglement entropy always scales linearly with the block size. However, besides this \emph{area law} contribution, we find a subleading logarithmic correction at the quantum critical point. This correction is discussed from the point of view of an underlying percolation transition, both at finite and at zero temperature.
We introduce transverse ferromagnetic interactions, in addition to a simple transverse field, to quantum annealing of the random-field Ising model to accelerate convergence toward the target ground state. The conventional approach using only the transverse-field term is known to be plagued by slow convergence when the true ground state has strong ferromagnetic characteristics for the random-field Ising model. The transverse ferromagnetic interactions are shown to improve the performance significantly in such cases. This conclusion is drawn from the analyses of the energy eigenvalues of instant…
We investigate roughening transitions in the context of transverse-field Ising models. As a modification of the transverse Ising model with short range interactions, which has been shown to exhibit domain wall roughening, we have looked into the possibility of a roughening transition for the case of long-range interactions, since such a system is physically realized in the insulator LiHoF4. The combination of strong Ising anisotropy and long-range forces lead naturally to the formation of domain walls but we find that the long-range forces destroy the roughening transition.
In this paper we show how an infinite system of coupled Toda-type nonlinear differential equations derived by one of us can be used efficiently to calculate the time-dependent pair-correlations in the Ising chain in a transverse field. The results are seen to match extremely well long large-time asymptotic expansions newly derived here. For our initial conditions we use new long asymptotic expansions for the equal-time pair correlation functions of the transverse Ising chain, extending an old result of T.T. Wu for the 2d Ising model. Using this one can also study the equal-time wavevector-depe…
We derive an exact closed-form expression for fidelity susceptibility of the quantum Ising model in the transverse field. We also establish an exact one-to-one correspondence between fidelity susceptibility in the ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases of this model. Elegant summation formulas are obtained as a by-product of these studies.
We consider the stationary state properties of the reduced density matrix as well as spin-spin correlation functions after a sudden quantum quench of the magnetic field in the transverse field Ising chain. We demonstrate that stationary state properties are described by a generalized Gibbs ensemble. We discuss the approach to the stationary state at late times.
We consider the transverse Ising model in one dimension with nearest-neighbour interaction and calculate exactly the longitudinal spin-spin correlation for a class of excited states. These states are known to play an important role in the perturbative treatment of one-dimensional transverse Ising model with frustrated second-neighbour interaction. To calculate the correlation, we follow the earlier procedure of Wu, use Szego's theorem and also use Fisher-Hartwig conjecture. The result is that the correlation decays algebraically with distance ($n$) as $1/\surd n$ and is oscillatory or non-osci…
The entanglement entropy of the random transverse-field Ising model is calculated by a numerical implementation of the asymptotically exact strong disorder renormalization group method in 2d, 3d and 4d hypercubic lattices for different shapes of the subregion. We find that the area law is always satisfied, but there are analytic corrections due to E-dimensional edges (1<=E<=d-2). More interesting is the contribution arising from corners, which is logarithmically divergent at the critical point and its prefactor in a given dimension is universal, i.e. independent of the form of disorder.
We study transitions between distinct phases of one-dimensional periodically driven (Floquet) systems. We argue that these are generically controlled by infinite-randomness fixed points of a strong-disorder renormalization group procedure. Working in the fermionic representation of the prototypical Floquet Ising chain, we leverage infinite randomness physics to provide a simple description of Floquet (multi)criticality in terms of a new type of domain wall associated with time-translational symmetry-breaking and the formation of `Floquet time crystals'. We validate our analysis via numerical s…
Using the strong disorder renormalization group method we study numerically the critical behavior of the random transverse Ising model at a free surface, at a corner and at an edge in D=2, 3 and 4-dimensional lattices. The surface magnetization exponents are found to be: x_s=1.60(2), 2.65(15) and 3.7(1) in D=2, 3 and 4, respectively, which do not depend on the form of disorder. We have also studied critical magnetization profiles in slab, pyramid and wedge geometries with fixed-free boundary conditions and analyzed their scaling behavior.
Recently, Heim, Ronnow, Isakov and Troyer [Science 348 (2015) 215] have reported that Monte Carlo simulations for the Ising spin glass model on the square lattice in the physically relevant continuous-imaginary-time limit do not show superiority of quantum annealing (QA) using transverse field against classical annealing (CA). Although the QA schedule that they had used has been using conventionally, however the QA schedule mathematically has no guarantee that the used schedule is the best QA schedule for performance of optimization. We propose a new QA schedule for studying transverse-field-b…
We study the low-energy properties of the long-range random transverse-field Ising chain with ferromagnetic interactions decaying as a power alpha of the distance. Using variants of the strong-disorder renormalization group method, the critical behavior is found to be controlled by a strong-disorder fixed point with a finite dynamical exponent z_c=alpha. Approaching the critical point, the correlation length diverges exponentially. In the critical point, the magnetization shows an alpha-independent logarithmic finite-size scaling and the entanglement entropy satisfies the area law. These obser…
We propose a method to evaluate parameters in the Hamiltonian of the Ising chain under site-dependent transverse fields, with a proviso that we can control and measure one of the edge spins only. We evaluate the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian and the time-evoultion operator exactly for a 3-spin chain, from which we obtain the expectation values of $σ_x$ of the first spin. The parameters are found from the peak positions of the Fourier transform of the expectation value. There are four assumptions in our method, which are mild enough to be satisfied in many physical systems.
We show that the symmetry-breaking gap of the quantum Ising model in the transverse field can be extracted from free evolution of the longitudinal magnetization taking place after a gradual quench of the magnetic field. We perform for this purpose numerical simulations of the Ising chains with either periodic or open boundaries. We also study the condition for adiabaticity of evolution of the longitudinal magnetization finding excellent agreement between our simulations and the prediction based on the Kibble-Zurek theory of non-equilibrium phase transitions. Our results should be relevant for …
The quantum-critical properties of the transverse-field Ising model with algebraically decaying interactions are investigated by means of stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo, on both the one-dimensional linear chain and the two-dimensional square lattice. We extract the critical exponents $ν$ and $β$ as a function of the decay exponent of the long-range interactions. For ferromagnetic Ising interactions, we resolve the limiting regimes known from field theory, ranging from the nearest-neighbor Ising to the long-range Gaussian universality classes, as well as the intermediate regime…
In this paper we study the critical behavior of the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model in both uniform longitudinal ($H$) and transverse ($Ω$) magnetic fields. Using the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlation in single site cluster we calculate the phase diagrams in the $H-T$ and $Ω-T$ planes for the square ($z=4$) lattices. We have only found second order phase transitions for all values of fields and reentrant behavior was not observed.
The effect of the zero centered Gaussian random magnetic field distribution on the phase diagrams and ground state magnetizations of the transverse Ising thin film has been investigated. As a formulation, the differential operator technique and decoupling approximation within the effective field theory has been used. The variation of the phase diagrams with the Gaussian distribution width (σ) has been obtained and particular attention has been paid on the evolution of the special point coordinate with distribution parameter. In addition, the ground state longitudinal and transverse magnetizati…
A non-hermitian deformation of the one-dimensional transverse Ising model is shown to have the property of quasi-hermiticity. The transverse Ising chain is obtained from the starting non-hermitian Hamiltonian through a similarity transformation. Consequently, both the models have identical eigen-spectra, although the eigen-functions are different. The metric in the Hilbert space, which makes the non-hermitian model unitary and ensures the completeness of states, has been constructed explicitly. Although the longitudinal correlation functions are identical for both the non-hermitian and the her…
We consider the full probability distribution for the transverse magnetization of a finite subsystem in the transverse field Ising chain. We derive a determinant representation of the corresponding characteristic function for general Gaussian states. We consider applications to the full counting statistics in the ground state, finite temperature equilibrium states, non-equilibrium steady states and time evolution after global quantum quenches. We derive an analytical expression for the time and subsystem size dependence of the characteristic function at sufficiently late times after a quantum …
Using rigorous analytical analysis and exact numerical data for the spin-1/2 transverse Ising chain we discuss the effects of regular alternation of the Hamiltonian parameters on the quantum phase transition inherent in the model.
The criticality of the (2+1)-dimensional S=1 transverse-field Ising model is investigated with the numerical diagonalization method. The scaling behavior is improved by tuning the coupling-constant parameters; the S=1 spin model allows us to incorporate a variety of interactions such as the single-ion anisotropy and the biquadratic interactions. Simulating the clusters with N=6,8,...,20 spins, we estimate the critical indices as 1/ν=1.586(6) and η=0.034(4).
We analyze the long range Ising spin glass in a transverse field by using Grassmann variables in a field theory where the spin operators are represented by bilinear combinations of fermionic fields. We compare the results of two fermionic models. In the four state (4S)-model the diagonal Sz operator has two vanishing eigenvalues, that are suppressed by a restraint in the two states (2S)-model. Within a replica symmetric theory and in the static approximation we obtain similar results for both models.
We consider the time evolution of the gaps of the entanglement spectrum for a block of consecutive sites in finite transverse field Ising chains after sudden quenches of the magnetic field. We provide numerical evidence that, whenever we quench at or across the quantum critical point, the time evolution of the ratios of these gaps allows to obtain universal information. They encode the low-lying gaps of the conformal spectrum of the Ising boundary conformal field theory describing the spatial bipartition within the imaginary time path integral approach to global quenches at the quantum critica…
The Quantum Transfer Matrix method based on the Suzuki-Trotter formulation is extended to dynamical problems. The auto-correlation functions of the Transverse Ising chain are derived by this method. It is shown that the Trotter-directional correlation function is interpreted as a Matsubara's temperature Green function and that the auto-correlation function is given by analytic continuation of the Green function. We propose the Trotter-directional correlation function is a new measure of the quantum fluctuation and show how it works well as a demonstration.
Within the framework of the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations, the phase diagrams of a cylindrical spin-1 Ising nanowire is investigated, depending on the ratio of the Hamiltonian parameters. We discuss in detail the influence of interfacial coupling, crystal field and transfer field ratio on the phase diagrams, and some characteristic phenomena have been found such as tricritical point and first-order transitions.
We study the effect of presence of different types of critical points such as ordinary critical point, multicritical point and quasicritical point along different paths on the Fidelity susceptibility and Loschmidt echo of a three spin interacting transverse Ising chain using a method which does not involve the language of tensors. We find that the scaling of fidelity susceptibility and Loschmidt echo with the system size at these special critical points of the model studied, is in agreement with the known results, thus supporting our method.
We study quasi-particle dynamics in a quasi-periodic Ising model with temporally fluctuating transverse fields. Specifically, we calculate the dynamical exponents of the standard deviation of a quasi-particle spreading under a field chosen randomly from binary values $\pm h$ at every time interval. We find that the short-time behavior of the dynamical exponents depends on the interval of the temporally fluctuating fields. We also reveal how the quasi-particle dynamics affects the relaxation of spin-spin correlation functions. The dynamics can be explained via the overlap between the eigenvecto…
We show that the Temperley-Lieb algebra is constructed from the generators of the transverse-field Ising-type bond algebra. It is also shown that, when we take the representation of the generators to the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model, then the Temperley-Lieb algebra constructed on three consecutive bond generators becomes the XXZ model. Furthermore, we obtain several integrable spin systems from other representations for the bond generators.
A spin-1 transverse Ising model with longitudinal crystal field in a longitudinal magnetic field is examined by introducing an effective field approximation (IEFT) which includes the correlations between different spins that emerge when expanding the identities. The effects of the crystal field as well as the transverse and longitudinal magnetic fields on the thermal and magnetic properties of the spin system are discussed in detail. The order parameters, Helmholtz free energy and entropy curves are calculated numerically as functions of the temperature and Hamiltonian parameters. A number of …
The inner product between the ground-state eigenvectors with proximate interaction parameters, namely, the fidelity, plays a significant role in the quantum dynamics. In this paper, the critical behaviors of the transverse- and longitudinal-field fidelity susceptibilities for the d=2 quantum (transverse-field) Ising model are investigated by means of the numerical diagonalization method; the former susceptibility has been investigated rather extensively. The critical exponents for these fidelity susceptibilities are estimated as α^{(t)}_F=0.752(24) and α^{(h)}_F=1.81(13), respectively. These i…
We study eigenstate thermalization and related signatures of quantum chaos in the one-dimensional ferromagnetic transverse-field Ising model with power-law interactions. The presence of long-range interactions allows for a finite-temperature phase transition despite the one-dimensional geometry of the model. Unlike previous studies of eigenstate thermalization in non-disordered systems with finite temperature phase transitions, our model possesses sufficiently many energy eigenstates below the critical energy density to allow us to make a definitive statement about the presence of eigenstate t…
We study the three-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model in both uniform longitudinal ($H$) and transverse ($Ω$) magnetic fields by using the effective-field theory with finite cluster $N=1$ spin (EFT-1). We analyzed the behavior of the magnetic susceptibility to investigate the reentrant phenomena we have seen the same phase diagram previously obtained in another papers. Our results shows the presence of two divergences in the susceptibility that indicates the existence of a reentrant behaviour.
We consider the spin-1/2 Ising chain in a regularly alternating transverse field to examine the effects of regular alternation on the quantum phase transition inherent in the quantum Ising chain. The number of quantum phase transition points strongly depends on the specific set of the Hamiltonian parameters but never exceeds 2p where p is the period of alternation. Calculating the spin correlation functions numerically (for long chains of up to 5400 sites) and determining the critical exponents we have demonstrated that two types of critical behavior are possible. In most cases the square-latt…
We have adjusted the Density Matrix Renormalization method to handle two dimensional systems of limited width. The key ingredient for this extension is the incorporation of symmetries in the method. The advantage of our approach is that we can force certain symmetry properties to the resulting ground state wave function. Combining the results obtained for system sizes up-to $30 \times 6$ and finite size scaling, we derive the phase transition point and the critical exponent for the gap in the Ising model in a Transverse Field on a two dimensional square lattice.
We study the time evolution in the transverse-field Ising chain subject to quantum quenches of finite duration, ie, a continuous change in the transverse magnetic field over a finite time. Specifically, we consider the dynamics of the total energy, one- and two-point correlation functions and Loschmidt echo during and after the quench as well as their stationary behaviour at late times. We investigate how different quench protocols affect the dynamics and identify universal properties of the relaxation.
I investigate the quantum phase transition of the transverse-field quantum Ising model in which nearest neighbors are defined according to the connectivity of scale-free networks. Using a continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo simulation method and the finite-size scaling analysis, I identify the quantum critical point and study its scaling characteristics. For the degree exponent $λ=6$, I obtain results that are consistent with the mean-field theory. For $λ=4.5$ and $4$, however, the results suggest that the quantum critical point belongs to a non-mean-field universality class. The deviation fro…
The low-temperature properties and crossover phenomena of $d$-dimensional transverse Ising-like systems within the influence domain of the quantum critical point are investigated solving the appropriate one-loop renormalization group equations. The phase diagram is obtained near and at $d=3$ and several sets of critical exponents are determined which describe different responses of a system to quantum fluctuations according to the way of approaching the quantum critical point. The results are in remarkable agreement with experiments for a wide variety of compounds exhibiting a quantum phase tr…
