We provide a Lagrangian construction for the fixed-point subalgebra, together with its idempotent form, in a quasi-split symmetric pair of type $A_{n-1}$. This is obtained inside the limit of a projective system of Borel-Moore homologies of the Steinberg varieties of $n$-step isotropic flag varieties. Arising from the construction are a basis of homological origin for the idempotent form and a geometric realization of rational modules.
We describe the equivariant K-groups of a family of generalized Steinberg varieties that interpolates between the Steinberg variety of a reductive, complex algebraic group and its nilpotent cone in terms of the extended affine Hecke algebra and double cosets in the extended affine Weyl group. As an application, we use this description to define Kazhdan-Lusztig "bar" involutions and Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for these equivariant K-groups.
We discuss some connections between the closure $\bar F$ of a Steinberg fiber in the wonderful compactification of an adjoint group and the affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties $X_w(1)$ in the affine flag variety. Among other things, we describe the emptiness/nonemptiness pattern of $X_w(1)$ if the translation part of $w$ is quasi-regular. As a by-product, we give a new proof of the explicit description of $\bar F$, first obtained in \cite{H1}.
In the first half of this article, we review the Steinberg theory for double flag varieties for symmetric pairs. For a special case of the symmetric space of type AIII, we will consider $ X = GL_{2n}/P_{(n,n)} \times GL_n / B_n^+ \times GL_n / B_n^- $ on which $ K = GL_n \times GL_n $ acts diagonally. We give a classification of $ K $-orbits in $ X $, and explicit combinatorial description of the Steinberg maps. In the latter half, we develop the theory of embedding of a double flag variety into a larger one. This embedding is a powerful tool to study different types of double flag varieties i…
In this paper we give a simple description of DT-invariants of double quivers without potential as the multiplicity of the Steinberg character in some representation associated with the quiver. When the dimension vector is indivisible we use this description to express these DT-invariants as the Poincaré polynomial of some singular quiver varieties. Finally we explain the connections with previous work of Hausel-Letellier-Villegas where DT-invariants are expressed as the graded multiplicities of the trivial representation of some Weyl group in the cohomology of some non-singular quiver varieti…
This note extends the Steinberg Tensor product theorem from the Frobenius kernel $G_{(r)}$ to the deformation $\mathcal{U}^{[r]}(\mathfrak{g})$ of its distribution algebra. As a Corollary we proof some conjectures from \cite{Wes}. Further it describes the graded representation theory of $\mathcal{U}^{[r]}(\mathfrak{g})$ at a generic semisimple p-central character as a twist of the category of graded $G_{(r-1)}$-modules. We conclude by explaining this relation for $SL_2$ explicitely as well as computing the center in this case.
Let $G$ be a complex, connected, reductive algebraic group. In this paper we show analogues of the computations by Borho and MacPherson of the invariants and anti-invariants of the cohomology of the Springer fibres of the cone of nilpotent elements, $\mathcal N$, of $\operatorname{Lie}(G)$ for the Steinberg variety $Z$ of triples. Using a general specialization argument we show that for a parabolic subgroup $W_P \times W_Q$ of $W \times W$ the space of $W_P \times W_Q$-invariants and the space of $W_P \times W_Q$-anti-invariants of $H_{4n}(Z)$ are isomorphic to the top Borel-Moore homology gro…
Let $mathfrak{g}$ be a restricted Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>2$. Let $\mathfrak{u}(\mathfrak{g})$ denote the restricted enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this paper we prove that the cohomology ring $\HH^\bullet(\fu(\fg), k)$ is finitely generated. This allows one to define support varieties for finite dimensional $\fu(\fg)$-supermodules. We also show that support varieties for finite dimensional $\fu(\fg)$ supermodules satisfy the desirable properties of support variety theory.
We initiate the investigation of the projective varieties $\mathbb E(r,\mathfrak g)$ of elementary subalgebras of dimension $r$ of a ($p$-restricted) Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ for various $r \geq 1$. These varieties $\mathbb E(r,\mathfrak g)$ are the natural ambient varieties for generalized support varieties for restricted representations of $\mathfrak g$. We identify these varieties in special cases, revealing their interesting and varied geometric structures. We also introduce invariants for a finite dimensional $\mathfrak u(\mathfrak g)$-module $M$, the local $(r,j)$-radical rank and local…
Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field $\mathbbm k$ of characteristic zero. We consider the commuting variety $\mathcal C(\mathfrak u)$ of the nilradical $\mathfrak u$ of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak b$ of a Borel subgroup $B$ of $G$. In case $B$ acts on $\mathfrak u$ with only a finite number of orbits, we verify that $\mathcal C(\mathfrak u)$ is equidimensional and that the irreducible components are in correspondence with the {\em distinguished} $B$-orbits in $\mathfrak u$. We observe that in general $\mathcal C(\mathfrak u)$ is not equidim…
Let $(\mathfrak{g},[p])$ be a restricted Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p\!\ge \!3$. Motivated by the behavior of geometric invariants of the so-called $(\mathfrak{g},[p])$-modules of constant $j$-rank ($j \in \{1,\ldots,p\!-\!1\}$), we study the projective variety $\mathbb{E}(2,\mathfrak{g})$ of two-dimensional elementary abelian subalgebras. If $p\!\ge\!5$, then the topological space $\mathbb{E}(2,\mathfrak{g}/C(\mathfrak{g}))$, associated to the factor algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ by its center $C(\mathfrak{g})$, is shown to be connected. We give applicat…
Birational equivalence of the Zassenhaus varieties for basic classical Lie superalgebras and their purely-even reductive Lie subalgebras in odd characteristic
The representation theory of the symmetric group has been intensively studied for over 100 years and is one of the gems of modern mathematics. The full transformation monoid $\mathfrak T_n$ (the monoid of all self-maps of an $n$-element set) is the monoid analogue of the symmetric group. The investigation of its representation theory was begun by Hewitt and Zuckerman in 1957. Its character table was computed by Putcha in 1996 and its representation type was determined in a series of papers by Ponizovski{\uı}, Putcha and Ringel between 1987 and 2000. From their work, one can deduce that the glo…
We classify completely prime primitive ideals whose associated varieties are the closure of the minimal nilpotent orbit of $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$, and classify irreducible $(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{k})$-modules which have those ideals as annihilators. Moreover, we irreducibly decompose them as $\mathfrak{k}$-modules.
We establish a multiplication formula for a tridiagonal standard basis element in the idempotented coideal subalgebras of quantum affine $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ arising from the geometry of affine partial flag varieties of type $C$. We apply this formula to obtain the stabilization algebras $\dot{\mathbf K}^{\mathfrak{c}}_n$, $\dot{\mathbf K}^{\jmath \imath}_{\mathfrak{n}}$, $\dot{\mathbf K}^{\imath \jmath}_{\mathfrak{n}}$ and $\dot{\mathbf K}^{\imath \imath}_η$, which are idempotented coideal subalgebras of quantum affine $\mathfrak{gl}_n$. The symmetry in the formula leads to an isomorphism of the…
Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$, and assume that the characteristic of $k$ is zero or a pretty good prime for $G$. Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and let $\mathfrak p$ be the Lie algebra of $P$. We consider the commuting variety $\mathcal C(\mathfrak p) = \{(X,Y) \in \mathfrak p \times \mathfrak p \mid [X,Y] = 0\}$. Our main theorem gives a necessary and sufficient condition for irreducibility of $\mathcal C(\mathfrak p)$ in terms of the modality of the adjoint action of $P$ on the nilpotent variety of $\mathfrak p$. As a conseque…
S. Ovsienko proved that the Gelfand-Tsetlin variety for $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ is equidimensional (i.e., all its irreducible components have the same dimension) of dimension $\frac{n(n-1)}{2}$. This result is known as Ovsienko's Theorem and it has important consequences in Representation Theory of Algebras. In this paper, we will study the Gelfand-Tsetlin varieties for restricted Yangian $Y_p(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ and the equidimensionality for $Y_p(\mathfrak{gl}_3)$.
In this paper we determine, for all $r$ sufficiently large, the irreducible component(s) of maximal dimension of the variety of commuting $r$-tuples of nilpotent elements of $\mathfrak{gl}_n$. Our main result is that in characteristic $\neq 2,3$, this nilpotent commuting variety has dimension $(r+1)\lfloor \frac{n^2}{4}\rfloor$ for $n\geq 4$, $r\geq 7$. We use this to find the dimension of the (ordinary) $r$-th commuting varieties of $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ and $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ for the same range of values of $r$ and $n$. Our principal motivation is the connection between nilpotent commuting variet…
This work pursues a circle of Lie-theoretic ideas involving Hessenberg varieties, Poisson geometry, and wonderful compactifications. In more detail, one may associate a symplectic Hamiltonian $G$-variety $μ:G\times\mathcal{S}\longrightarrow\mathfrak{g}$ to each complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with adjoint group $G$ and fixed Kostant section $\mathcal{S}\subseteq\mathfrak{g}$. This variety is one of Bielawski's hyperkähler slices, and it is central to Moore and Tachikawa's work on topological quantum field theories. It also bears a close relation to two log symplectic Hamiltonian …
In \cite{BKN} the authors initiated a study of the representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras via a cohomological approach. Detecting subalgebras were constructed and a theory of support varieties was developed. The dimension of a detecting subalgebra coincides with the defect of the Lie superalgebra and the dimension of the support variety for a simple supermodule was conjectured to equal the atypicality of the supermodule. In this paper the authors compute the support varieties for Kac supermodules for Type I Lie superalgebras and the simple supermodules for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. T…
Consider the moment map $μ\colon T^*(\mathfrak{p} \times \mathbb{C}^n) \to \mathfrak{p}^*$ for a parabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak{p}$ of $\mathfrak{gl}_n(\mathbb{C})$. We prove that the preimage of $0$ under $μ$ is a complete intersection when $\mathfrak{p}$ has finitely many $P$-orbits, where $P\subseteq \operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb{C})$ is a parabolic subgroup such that $\operatorname{Lie}(P) = \mathfrak{p}$, and give an explicit description of the irreducible components. This allows us to study nearby fibers of $μ$ as they are equidimensional, and one may also construct GIT quotients $μ^{-1}(…
The complexity of a module is the rate of growth of the minimal projective resolution of the module while the $z$-complexity is the rate of growth of the number of indecomposable summands at each step in the resolution. Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{osp}(k|2)$ ($k>2$) be the type II orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra of types $B$ or $D$. In this paper, we compute the complexity and the $z$-complexity of the simple finite-dimensional $\mathfrak{g}$-supermodules. We then give geometric interpretations using support and associated varieties for these complexities.
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a complex semisimple Lie algebra. For a regular element $x$ in $\mathfrak{g}$ and a Hessenberg space $H\subseteq \mathfrak{g}$, we consider a regular Hessenberg variety $X(x,H)$ in the flag variety associated with $\mathfrak{g}$. We take a Hessenberg space so that $X(x,H)$ is irreducible, and show that the higher cohomology groups of the structure sheaf of $X(x,H)$ vanish. We also study the flat family of regular Hessenberg varieties, and prove that the scheme-theoretic fibers over the closed points are reduced. We include applications of these results as well.
This is a continuation of our work to understand vertex operator algebras using the geometric properties of varieties attached to vertex operator algebras. For a class of vertex operator algebras including affine vertex operator algebras associated to a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we describe their varieties of semi-conformal vectors by some matrix equations. These matrix equations are too complicated to be solved for us. However, for affine vertex operator algebras associated to the simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we find the adjoint group $G$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ ac…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple Lie algebra defined over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p$. Fix an integer $r>1$ and suppose that $V_1,\ldots,V_r$ are irreducible closed subvarieties of $\mathfrak{g}$. Let $C(V_1,\ldots,V_r)$ be the closed variety of all the pairwise commuting elements in $V_1\times\cdots\times V_r$. This paper studies the dimension and irreducibility of such varieties with various $V_i$ in a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. In particular, we complete the problem for the case when $V_i$'s are either $\overline{\mathcal{O}_{\text{sub}}}$ the closure of the subre…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the $p$-dimensional Witt algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>3$. Let $\mathscr{N}={x\in\ggg\mid x^{[p]}=0}$ be the nilpotent variety of $\mathfrak{g}$, and $\mathscr{C}(\mathscr{N}):=\{(x,y)\in \mathscr{N}\times\mathscr{N}\mid [x,y]=0\}$ the nilpotent commuting variety of $\mathfrak{g}$. As an analogue of Premet's result in the case of classical Lie algebras [A. Premet, Nilpotent commuting varieties of reductive Lie algebras. Invent. Math., 154, 653-683, 2003.], we show that the variety $\mathscr{C}(\mathscr{N})$ is reducible and equidimens…
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a semisimple Lie algebra and $\mathfrak k\subset\mathfrak g$ be a reductive in $\mathfrak g$ subalgebra. A $(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak k)$-module is a $\mathfrak g$-module which after restriction to $\mathfrak k$ becomes a direct sum of finite-dimensional $\mathfrak k$-modules. I.Penkov and V.Serganova introduce definition of bounded $(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak k)$-modules for reductive subalgebras $\mathfrak k\subset\mathfrak g$, i.e. $(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak k)$-modules whose $\mathfrak k$-multiplicities are uniformly bounded. A question arising in this context is, given $\mat…
The purpose of this paper is to bring together various loose ends in the theory of integrable systems. For a semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$, we obtain several results on completeness of homogeneous Poisson-commutative subalgebras of ${\mathcal S}(\mathfrak g)$ on coadjoint orbits. This concerns, in particular, Mishchenko-Fomenko and Gelfand-Tsetlin subalgebras.
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group with $\mathfrak g=\mathsf{Lie} G$ and $\mathcal O_{\sf min}\subset\mathfrak g$ the minimal nilpotent orbit. For a $\mathbb Z_2$-grading $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak g_0\oplus\mathfrak g_1$, let $G_0$ be a connected subgroup of $G$ with $\mathsf{Lie} G_0=\mathfrak g_0$. We study the $G_0$-equivariant projections $φ:\overline{\mathcal O_{\sf min}}\to \mathfrak g_0$ and $ψ:\overline{\mathcal O_{\sf min}}\to\mathfrak g_1$. It is shown that the properties of $\overline{φ(\mathcal O_{\sf min})}$ and $\overline{ψ(\mathcal O_{\sf min})}$ essentially depend on whether the …
We study cohomology for classical Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}$ (e.g. gl(m|n)) over the complex numbers. Using results from invariant theory, we show that there exist subsuperalgebras which detect the cohomology of $\mathfrak{g}.$ Furthermore, drawing inspiration from finite groups and restricted Lie algebras, we introduce the notion of support varieties in this context. One can prove these varieties have many of the desirable properties of such a theory. They also appear to provide new interpretations for certain combinatorics associated with Lie superalgebras.
In this note, we prove that the universal affine vertex algebra associated with a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is simple if and only if the associated variety of its unique simple quotient is equal to $\mathfrak{g}^*$. We also derive an analogous result for the quantized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction applied to the universal affine vertex algebra.
The paper studies the dimensions of irreducible components of commuting varieties of (restricted) nilpotent $r$-tuples in a classical Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ defined over an algebraically closed field $k$. As applications, we obtain some new results on the structure of the (even) cohomology ring of Frobenius kernels $G_r$ for each $r\ge 1$, where $G$ is the simply connected, simple algebraic group such that $\text{Lie}(G)=\mathfrak{g}$. Explicit calculations for rank two groups are also presented.
We study fixed-point loci of Nakajima varieties under symplectomorphisms and their anti-symplectic cousins, which are compositions of a diagram automorphism, a reflection functor and a transpose defined by certain bilinear forms. These subvarieties provide a natural home for geometric representation theory of symmetric pairs. In particular, the cohomology of a Steinberg-type variety of the symplectic fixed-point subvarieties is conjecturally related to the universal enveloping algebra of the subalgebra in a symmetric pair. The latter symplectic subvarieties are further used to construct geomet…
In this paper, we deal with the $\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})$-action on a $\mathfrak{g}$-module on which a larger algebra $\mathcal{A}$ acts irreducibly. Under a mild condition, we will show that the support of the $\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{g})$-action is a union of affine subspaces in the dual of a Cartan subalgebra modulo the Weyl group action. As a consequence, we propose a definition of a Cartan subalgebra for such a $\mathfrak{g}$-module. The support of the $\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{g})$-module is an algebraic counterpart of the support of the measure in the irreducible decomposition of a unitary…
The proof of Theorem 5.12 in [C.M. Drupieski, On injective modules and support varieties for the small quantum group, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2011 (2011), 2263-2294] does not make sense as written because the algebra $u_ζ(\mathfrak{b}_α^+)$ need not be a Hopf subalgebra of $u_ζ(\mathfrak{b}^+)$ unless $α$ is a simple root. This note describes how the proof should be modified to work around this fact.
Using combinatorial properties of symmetric polynomials, we compute explicitly the Soergel modules for some permutations whose corresponding Schubert varieties are rationally smooth. We build from them diagram algebras whose module categories are equivalent to the subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ which show up in categorification of $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$-representations. We construct diagrammatically the graded cellular structure and the properly stratified structure of these algebras.
We construct an injective algebra homomorphism of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ into a quantum cluster algebra $\mathbf{L}_n$ associated to the moduli space of framed $PGL_{n+1}$-local systems on a marked punctured disk. We obtain a description of the coproduct of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ in terms of the corresponding quantum cluster algebra associated to the marked twice punctured disk, and express the action of the $R$-matrix in terms of a mapping class group element corresponding to the half-Dehn twist rotating one puncture about the other. As a consequence, we realize the …
This paper generalizes the results of the paper \cite{mi3} to the case of the general $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ Schubert varieties. We study the homomorphisms between different Schubert varieties, describe their geometry and the group of the line bundles. We also derive some consequences, concerning the infinite-dimensional generalized affine grassmanians.
Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a split connected reductive group scheme over the ring of integers $\mathfrak{o}$ of a finite extension $L|\mathbb{Q}_p$ and $λ\in X(\mathbb{T})$ an algebraic character of a split maximal torus $\mathbb{T}\subseteq\mathbb{G}$. Let us also consider $X^{\text{rig}}$ the rigid analytic flag variety of $\mathbb{G}$ and $G=\mathbb{G}(L)$. In the first part of this paper, we introduce a family of $λ$-twisted differential operators on a formal model $\mathfrak{Y}$ of $X^{\text{rig}}$. We compute their global sections and we prove coherence together with several cohomological prope…
