We have studied thermal chaotic behavior in the extended phase space for a charged dilaton-AdS black hole by Melnikov method and present the effect of dilaton parameter on the thermal chaos. Our result show that for the temporal perturbation the thermal chaos in the charged dilaton-AdS black hole occurs only if the perturbation amplitude is larger than certain a critical value, but for the spatially perturbation, the chaos always exists irrespective of perturbation amplitude. These behaviors are similar to those in other AdS black hole, which can be regarded as the common features of the static AdS black holes. Moreover, we also find that the critical temporal perturbation amplitude leading to chaos increases with the dilaton parameter and decreases with the charge. This means that under the temporal perturbation the presence of dilaton parameter makes the onset of chaos more difficult, which differs from that of the charge parameter.
In this paper, with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials, we obtain the higher dimensional charged slowly rotating dilaton black hole solution for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. The angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. It is shown that the dilaton field modifies the gyromagnetic ratio of the rotating dilaton black holes.
For the $n-1$ dimensional FRW domain wall universe induced by $n$ dimensional charged dilaton black hole, its movement formula in the bulk can be rewrite as the expansion or collapsing of domain wall. By analysing, we found that in this static AdS space, the cosmologic behaviour of domain wall is particularly single. Even more surprising, it exists an anomaly that the domain wall has a motion area outside of horizon, in which it cannot be explained by our classical theory.
Quantum effects lead to the annihilation of AdS Universe when dilaton is absent. We consider here the role of the form for the dilatonic potential in the quantum creation of a dilatonic AdS Universe and its stabilization. Using the conformal anomaly for dilaton coupled scalar, the anomaly induced action and the equations of motion are obtained. Using numerical methods the solutions of the full theory which correspond to quantum-corrected AdS Universe are given for a particular case of dilatonic potential.
The critical phenomena of dilaton AdS black holes are probed from a totally different perspective other than the $P-v$ criticality and the $q-U$ criticality discussed in the former literature. We investigate not only the two point correlation function but also the entanglement entropy of dilaton AdS black holes. We achieve this goal by solving the equation of motion constrained by the boundary condition numerically and we concentrate on $δL$ and $δS$ which have been regularized by subtracting the terms in pure AdS with the same boundary region. For both the two point correlation function and t…
We present exact spherically symmetric dyonic black hole solutions in four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with Liouville-type potentials for the dilaton field. These solutions have unusual asymptotics--they are neither asymptotically flat nor asymptotically (anti-) de Sitter. The solutions have one or two horizons hiding a curvature singularity at the origin. A class of topological dyonic black holes with topology of a torus is also presented. Some basic properties of the black holes are discussed.
We find that AdS spacetime with a non-trivial linear dilaton field is an exact solution in the effective action of string theory, which is described by gravity with the Gauss-Bonnet curvature terms coupled to a dilaton field in the string frame. The AdS radius is determined by the spacetime dimensions and the coupling constants of curvature corrections. We also construct the asymptotically AdS black hole solutions with a linear dilaton field numerically. We discuss the thermodynamical properties of those solutions. Extending the model to the case with the even-order higher Lovelock curvature t…
It is well known that the charged scalar perturbations of the Reissner-Nordstrom metric will decay slower at very late times than the neutral ones, thereby dominating in the late time signal. We show that at the stage of quasinormal ringing, on the contrary, the neutral perturbations will decay slower for RN, RNAdS and dilaton black holes. The QN frequencies of the nearly extreme RN black hole have the same imaginary parts (damping times) for charged and neutral perturbations. An explanation of this fact is not clear but, possibly, is connected with the Choptuik scaling.
We revisit critical behaviour and phase structure of charged anti-deSitter (AdS) dilaton black holes for arbitrary values of dilaton coupling $α$, and realize several novel phase behaviour for this system. We adopt the viewpoint that cosmological constant (pressure) is fixed and treat the charge of the black hole as a thermodynamical variable. We study critical behaviour and phase structure by analyzing the phase diagrams in $T-S$ and $ q-T$ planes. We numerically derive the critical point in terms of $α$ and observe that for $α=1$ and $α\geq \sqrt{3}$, the system does not admit any critical p…
We study electromagnetically charged dilatonic black brane solutions in arbitrary dimensions with flat transverse spaces, that are asymptotically AdS. This class of solutions includes spacetimes which possess a bulk region where the metric is approximately invariant under Lifshitz scalings. Given fixed asymptotic boundary conditions, we analyze how the behavior of the bulk up to the horizon varies with the charges and derive the extremality conditions for these spacetimes.
The possibility of quantum creation of a dilatonic AdS Universe is discussed.Without dilaton it is known that quantum effects lead to the annihilation of AdS Universe. We consider the role of the form for the dilatonic potential in the quantum creation of a dilatonic AdS Universe. Using the conformal anomaly for dilaton coupled scalar, the anomaly induced action and the equations of motion are obtained. The anomaly induced action is added to classical dilaton gravity action. The solutions of the full theory which correspond to quantum-corrected AdS Universe are given for number of dilatonic po…
We show that several features of the Jackiw-Teitelboim model are in fact universal properties of two-dimensional Maxwell-dilaton gravity theories with a broad class of asymptotics. These theories satisfy a flow equation with the structure of a dimensionally reduced TTbar deformation, and exhibit chaotic behavior signaled by a maximal Lyapunov exponent. One consequence of our results is a no-go theorem for smooth flows from an asymptotically AdS2 region to a de Sitter fixed point.
We present a new class of asymptotically AdS magnetic solutions in ($n+1$)-dimensional dilaton gravity in the presence of an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type potentials. This class of solutions is asymptotically AdS in six and higher dimensions and yields a spacetime with longitudinal magnetic field generated by a static brane. These solutions have no curvature singularity and no horizons but have a conic geometry with a deficit angle. We find that the brane tension depends on the dilaton field and approaches a constant as the coupling constant of dilaton field goes to infinity.…
Using Maxwell's equal area law, we discuss the phase transition of higher dimensional charged topological dilaton AdS black holes with a nonlinear source. The coexisting region of the two phases is found and we depict the coexistence region in $P-v$ diagrams. The two-phase equilibrium curves in $P-T$ diagrams are plotted, and we take the first order approximation of volume $v$ in the calculation. To better compare with a general thermodynamic system, the Clapeyron equation is derived for higher dimensional charged topological black hole with a nonlinear source. The latent heat of isothermal ph…
We investigate the holographic DC and Hall conductivity in massive Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) gravity. Two special EMD backgrounds are considered explicitly. One is dyonic Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m-AdS (RN-AdS) geometry and the other one is hyperscaling violation AdS (HV-AdS) geometry. We find that the linear-T resistivity and quadratic-T inverse Hall angle can be simultaneously achieved in HV-AdS models, providing a hint to construct holographic models confronting with the experimental data of strange metal in future.
We construct a new class of dyonic dilaton black hole solutions in the background of Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In order to find an analytical solution which satisfy all the field equations, we should consider the string case where the dilaton coupling is $α=1$. The asymptotic behaviour of the solution ($r\rightarrow\infty$) is exactly AdS, where the dilaton field becomes zero and the metric function reduces to $f(r)\rightarrow -Λr^2/3$. In this spacetime, black hole horizons and cosmological horizons, can be a two-dimensional positive, zero or negative constant curvature surface. We stud…
We study Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity models in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime which admit the Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole solution. We show that below a critical temperature the AdS-RN solution becomes unstable against scalar perturbations and the gravitational system undergoes a phase transition. We show using numerical calculations that the new phase is a charged dilatonic black hole. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we discuss the phase transition in the dual field theory both for non-vanishing temperatures and in the extremal limit. The extremal solution has a …
We study asymptotically AdS topological black hole solutions with k=0 (plane symmetric) in the Einstein gravity with Gauss-Bonnet term, the dilaton and a "cosmological constant" in various dimensions. We derive the field equations for suitable ansatz for general D dimensions. We determine the parameter regions including dilaton couplings where such solutions exist and construct black hole solutions of various masses numerically in D=4,5,6 and 10 dimensional spacetime with (D-2)-dimensional hypersurface of zero curvature.
In this paper we discuss phase transition of the charged topological dilaton AdS black holes by Maxwell equal area law. The two phases involved in the phase transition could be coexist and we depict the coexistence region in $P-v$ diagrams. The two-phase equilibrium curves in $P-T$ diagrams are plotted, the Clapeyron equation for the black hole is derived, and the latent heat of isothermal phase transition is investigated. We also analyze of the parameters of the black hole that have an effect on the two phases coexistence. The results show that the black hole may go through a small-large phas…
Based on the Melnikov method, we investigate chaotic behaviors in the extended thermodynamic phase space for a slowly rotating Kerr-AdS black hole under temporal and spatial perturbations. Our results show that the temporal perturbation coming from a thermal quench of the spinodal region in the phase diagram may cause the temporal chaos only when the perturbation amplitude is above a critical value, which involves the angular momentum . Under the spatial perturbation, however, it is found that the spatial chaos always occurs, which is independent of the perturbation amplitude.
It is well-known that there exists a Hawking-Page phase transition between a spherical AdS black hole and a thermal AdS space. The phase transition does not happen between a Ricci flat AdS black hole whose horizon is a Ricci flat space and a thermal AdS space in the Poincare coordinates. However, the Hawking-Page phase transition occurs between a Ricci flat AdS black hole and an AdS soliton if at least one of horizon coordinates for the Ricci flat black hole is compact. We show a similar phase transition betwen the Ricci flat black holes and deformed AdS solitons in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity an…
We study generic two-dimensional dilaton gravity with a Maxwell field and prove its triviality for constant dilaton boundary conditions, despite of the appearance of a Virasoro algebra with non-zero central charge. We do this by calculating the canonical boundary charges, which turn out to be trivial, and by calculating the quantum gravity partition function, which turns out to be unity. We show that none of the following modifications changes our conclusions: looser boundary conditions, non-linear interactions of the Maxwell field with the dilaton, inclusion of higher spin fields, inclusion o…
In this paper, we study the phase structure and equilibrium state space geometry of charged topological dilaton black holes in $(n+1)$-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime. By considering the pairs of parameters $(P\sim V)$ and $(Q\sim U)$ as variables, we analyze the phase structure and critical phenomena of black holes and discuss the relation between the two kinds of critical phenomena. We find that the phase structures and critical phenomena drastically depend on the cosmological constant $l$ (or the static electric charge $Q$ of the black holes), dimensionality $n$ and dilaton field $Φ$.
We investigate the thermodynamic chaos of RN-AdS black holes immersed in Perfect Fluid Dark Matter by considering the dynamical equations of the fluid system evolved in the spinodal region. Based on the Melnikov method, it is shown that there exists a critical amplitude that affects the temporal chaos. And the influence of black holes charge and state parameter on the critical amplitude is investigated with specific initial temperature. Then, for inevitable spatial chaos, three different types of portraits are discssued according to the difference between the phase transition pressure and the …
We study black hole solutions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the dilaton and a negative ``cosmological constant''. We derive the field equations for the static spherically symmetric ($k=1$) and hyperbolically symmetric ($k=-1$) spacetime in general $D$ dimensions. The system has some scaling symmetries which are used in our analysis of the solutions. We find exact solutions, i.e., regular AdS solution for $k=1$ and a massless black hole solution for $k=-1$. Nontrivial asymptotically AdS solutions are obtained numerically in D=4 -- 6 and 10 dimensional spacetimes. For spherically sym…
We study the motion of a ring string in the background of the Bardeen-AdS black hole surrounded by the quintessence dark energy. The effects of the magnetic monopole charge, the quintessence state parameter, and the quintessence normalization parameter on the dynamical behavior of the ring string are respectively analyzed. Our numerical results show that the chaotic behavior of string generally becomes stronger with the increase of the quintessence normalization parameter. In particular, the conditions for the existence of chaos are distinctly diverse for two different quintessence state param…
In this paper, we study topological AdS black branes of $(n+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory and investigate their properties. We use the area law, surface gravity and Gauss law interpretations to find entropy, temperature and electrical charge, respectively. We also employ the modified Brown and York subtraction method to calculate the quasilocal mass of the solutions. We obtain a Smarr-type formula for the mass as a function of the entropy and the charge, compute the temperature and the electric potential through the Smarr-type formula and show that these thermodynamic quantit…
We consider (1+1)-dimensional dilaton gravity with a reflecting dynamical boundary. The boundary cuts off the region of strong coupling and makes our model causally similar to the spherically-symmetric sector of multidimensional gravity. We demonstrate that this model is exactly solvable at the classical level and possesses an on-shell SL(2,R) symmetry. After introducing general classical solution of the model, we study a large subset of soliton solutions. The latter describe reflection of matter waves off the boundary at low energies and formation of black holes at energies above critical. Th…
We describe how unbounded three--form fluxes can lead to families of $AdS_3 \times S_7$ vacua, with constant dilaton profiles, in the $USp(32)$ model with "brane supersymmetry breaking" and in the $U(32)$ 0'B model, if their (projective--)disk dilaton tadpoles are taken into account. We also describe how, in the $SO(16) \times SO(16)$ heterotic model, if the torus vacuum energy $Λ$ is taken into account, unbounded seven--form fluxes can support similar $AdS_7 \times S_3$ vacua, while unbounded three--form fluxes, when combined with internal gauge fields, can support $AdS_3 \times S_7$ vacua, w…
We show that previously known non-asymptotically flat static black hole solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory may be obtained as near-horizon limits of asymptotically flat black holes. Specializing to the case of the dilaton coupling constant $α^2 = 3$, we generate from the non-asymptotically flat magnetostatic or electrostatic black holes two classes of rotating dyonic black hole solutions. The rotating dyonic black holes of the ``magnetic'' class are dimensional reductions of the five-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes relative to one of the azimuthal angles, while those of the ``ele…

According to the gauge/gravity duality, the Van der Waals transition of charged AdS black holes in extended phase space is conjectured to be dual to a renormalization group flow on the space of field theories. So exploring the Van der Waals transition is potentially valuable for studying holographic properties of charged black hole thermodynamics. There are different transition behaviors for charged dilatonic AdS black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory with string-inspired potential with different dilaton coupling constants in diverse dimensions. In this work, we find a special cl…
Several classes of gravitational backgrounds in $3+1$ dimensions have been proposed as holographic duals to Lifshitz-like theories describing critical phenomena in $2+1$ dimensions with critical exponent $z\geq 1$. We numerically explore one such model, characterized by a temperature $T$ and chemical potential $μ$, and find how to embed these solutions into AdS for a range of values of $z$. We find no phase transition going from the $T\llμ$ to the $T\gg μ$ regimes, and find that the solutions smoothly interpolate between the Lifshitz-like behavior and the relativistic AdS-like behavior. Finall…
AdS black holes show richer transition behaviors in extended phase space by assuming the cosmological constant and its conjugate quantity to behave like thermodynamic pressure and thermodynamic volume. We study the extended thermodynamics of charged dilatonic AdS black holes in a class of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories that can be embedded in gauged supergravities in various dimensions. We find that the transition behaviors of higher dimensional dilatonic AdS black holes are different from the four dimensional counterparts, and new transition behaviors emerges in higher dimensions. First, t…
We clarify the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies of a massless scalar perturbation on the 3D charged-dilaton black holes. This case is quite interesting because the potential-step appears outside the event horizon similar to the case of the electromagnetic perturbations on the large Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. It turns out that the potential-step type provides the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies, while the potential-barrier type gives the complex quasinormal modes.
We present a revisitation of the Almheiri-Polchinski dilaton gravity model from a two-dimensional (2D) bulk perspective. We describe a peculiar feature of the model, namely the pattern of conformal symmetry breaking using bulk Killing vectors, a covariant definition of mass and the flow between different vacua of the theory. We show that the effect of the symmetry breaking is both the generation of an infrared scale (a mass gap) and to make local the Goldstone modes associated with the asymptotic symmetries of the 2D spacetime. In this way a non vanishing central charge is generated in the dua…
We study a theory of dilaton gravity in a 5-dimensional brane scenario, with a non-minimal coupling of the dilaton to the matter content of the universe localized on the brane. The effective gravitational equations at the brane are derived in the Einstein frame in the covariant approach, addressing certain misconceptions in the literature. We then investigate whether the observed large-scale structure of the universe can exist on the brane in this dilaton gravity scenario with an exact anti de Sitter bulk, assuming that the matter energy-momentum tensor has the form of an inhomogeneous perfect…
The mass of an AdS black hole represents its enthalpy, which in addition to internal energy, generally includes the energy required to assemble the system in its environment. In this paper, we consider black holes immersed in a more complex environment, generated by a scalar field with an exponential potential. In the analogue of the AdS vacuum, which we call dilaton-AdS, the scalar field has non-trivial behavior, breaking the hyperscaling symmetry of AdS and modifying the asymptotic form of the spacetime. We find that the scalar field falloff at infinity makes novel contributions to the ADM m…
Thermal chaos under spatially/temporally periodic perturbations in the extended phase space of Bardeen-AdS black holes surrounded by quintessence dark energy is investigated. The occurring condition of chaos is obtained with the Melnikov integral. It is shown that spatial chaos is always supposed to occur even for a tiny spatially periodic perturbation imposed on the equilibrium configuration. However, the temporal chaos will arise in the unstable spinodal region only if the given perturbed amplitude γ is larger than a critical value γc. The value of γc is determined by the magnetic monopole c…
We consider type IIB supergravity backgrounds corresponding to the deformed AdS_n x S^n supercoset string models of the type constructed in arXiv:1309.5850 which depend on one deformation parameter \k. In AdS_2 x S^2 case we find that the deformed metric can be extended to a full supergravity solution with non-trivial dilaton, RR scalar and RR 5-form strength. The solution depends on a free parameter (called a) that should be chosen as a particular function of \k to correspond to the deformed supercoset model. In AdS_3 x S^3 case the full solution supported by the dilaton, RR scalar and RR 3-f…
By the Poincare sections, the dynamical behaviors of the ring string in the AdS-Gauss-Bonnet (AdS-GB) black hole are studied. A threshold value of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) parameter $λ$ are found by the numerical method, below which the behavior of this dynamical system is no-chaotic and above which the behavior becomes gradually chaotic. The chaotic behavior becomes stronger with the increases of GB parameter. It is different from the case in the AdS-Schwarzschild black hole, which is weakly chaotic. Furthermore, we confirm our findings by the Fast Lyapunov indicators.
We uncover a novel structure in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity: an ${\rm AdS}_2 \times S^2$ solution in string frame, which can be obtained by a near-horizon limit of the extreme GHS black hole with dilaton coupling $λ\neq 1$. Unlike the Bertotti-Robinson spacetime, our solution has independent length scales for the ${\rm AdS}_2$ and $S^2$, with ratio controlled by $λ$. We solve the perturbation problem for this solution, finding the independently propagating towers of states in terms of superpositions of gravitons, photons, and dilatons and their associated effective potentials. These poten…
We resolve the controversial issue of the geometric approach to the black hole thermodynamics. The geometric description of the equilibrium thermodynamics comes from Ruppeiner geometry based on a metric on the thermodynamic state space. For this purpose, we consider the Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RN-AdS) black hole which provides two different ensembles: canonical ensemble for fixed-charge case and grand canonical ensemble for fixed-potential case. Two cases are independent and cannot be mixed into each other. Hence, we calculate different Ruppeiner curvatures for two ensembles. However, we could…
We propose that Strominger's method to derive the BTZ black hole entropy is in fact applicable to other asymptotically AdS_3 black holes and gives the correct functional form of entropies. We discuss various solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell theory, dilaton gravity, Einstein-scalar theories, and Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. In some cases, solutions approach AdS_3 asymptotically, but their entropies do not have the form of Cardy's formula. However, it turns out that they are actually not "asymptotically $AdS_3$" solutions. On the other hand, for truly asymptotically AdS_3 solutions, their e…
We construct a general family of exact non-extremal 4-dimensional black holes in AdS gravity with U(1) gauge fields non-minimally coupled to a dilaton and a non-trivial dilaton potential. These black holes can have spherical, toroidal, and hyperbolic horizon topologies. We use the entropy function formalism to obtain the near horizon data in the extremal limit. Due to the non-trivial self-interaction of the scalar field, the zero temperature black holes can have a finite horizon area even if only the electric field is turned on.
Using the Sen's entropy function formalism, we compute the entropy for the extremal dyonic black hole solutions of theories in the presence of dilaton field coupled to the field strength and a dilaton potential. We solve the attractor equations analytically and determine the near horizon metric, the value of the scalar fields and the electric field on the horizon, and consequently the entropy of these black holes. The attractor mechanism plays a very important role for these systems, and after studying the simplest systems involving dilaton fields, we propose a general ansatz for the value of …
We study the nature of a family of curvature singularities which are precisely the timelike cousins of the spacelike singularities studied by Belinski, Khalatnikov, and Lifshitz (BKL). We show that the approach to the singularity can be modeled by a billiard ball problem on hyperbolic space, just as in the case of BKL. For pure gravity, generic chaotic behavior is retained in (3+1) dimensions, and we provide evidence that it disappears in higher dimensions. We speculate that such singularities, if occurring in AdS/CFT and of the chaotic variety, may be interpreted as (transient) chaotic renorm…
Electrically charged black holes with flat event horizon in anti-de Sitter space have received much attention due to various applications in Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence, from modeling the behavior of quark-gluon plasma to superconductor. Crucial to the physics on the dual field theory is the fact that when embedded in string theory, black holes in the bulk may become vulnerable to instability caused by brane pair-production. Since dilaton arises naturally in the context of string theory, we study the effect of coupling dilaton to Maxwell field on the stabilit…
Lifshitz space-times with critical exponent z=2 can be obtained by dimensional reduction of Schroedinger space-times with critical exponent z=0. The latter space-times are asymptotically AdS solutions of AdS gravity coupled to an axion-dilaton system and can be uplifted to solutions of type IIB supergravity. This basic observation is used to perform holographic renormalization for 4-dimensional asymptotically z=2 locally Lifshitz space-times by Scherk-Schwarz dimensional reduction of the corresponding problem of holographic renormalization for 5-dimensional asymptotically locally AdS space-tim…
We study solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with a constant magnetic flux which describe, in the holographic AdS/CFT framework, field theories characterized by a dynamical critical exponent and a hyperscaling violation exponent. Such solutions are known to be IR-incomplete due to the presence of a running dilaton, which drives the theory towards strong coupling in the IR, where quantum corrections become important. After introducing generic corrections, in this note we examine the conditions for the emergence of an AdS_2 x R^2 region close to the horizon, which provides an IR-comple…
Born-Infeld-AdS black holes in extended phase space may possess phase structures resembling that of van der Waals fluid in four-dimensional spacetime. We study dynamics of its state, which is in the unstable spinodal region initially on phase space, under time-periodic thermal perturbations. By applying the Melnikov method, it is found that there exists a critical amplitude $γ_c$ of the perturbations, which depends on the Born-Infeld parameter $b$ and the black hole charge $Q$, such that chaos occurs for $γ> γ_c$. We found that larger $b$ or $Q$ makes the onset of chaos easier. Space-periodic …
We investigate the conjectured bound on the Lyapunov exponent for a charged particle with angular motion in the Kerr-Newman-AdS black hole. The Lyapunov exponent is calculated based on the effective Lagrangian. We show that the negative cosmological constant reduces the chaotic behavior of the particle, namely, it decreases the Lyapunov exponent. Hence, the bound is more effective in the AdS spacetime than in the flat spacetime. Nevertheless, we find that the bound can be violated when the angular momenta of the black hole are turned on. Moreover, we show that in an extremal black hole, the bo…
All thermodynamic quantities of the Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole can be obtained from the dilaton and its potential of two dimensional (2D) dilaton gravity. The dual relations of four thermodynamic laws are also established. Furthermore, the near-horizon thermodynamics of the extremal RN black hole is completely described by the Jackiw-Teitelboim theory which is obtained by perturbing around the AdS$_2$-horizon.
We study charged dilaton black branes in $AdS_4$. Our system involves a dilaton $ϕ$ coupled to a Maxwell field $F_{μν}$ with dilaton-dependent gauge coupling, ${1\over g^2} = f^2(ϕ)$. First, we find the solutions for extremal and near extremal branes through a combination of analytical and numerical techniques. The near horizon geometries in the simplest cases, where $f(ϕ) = e^{αϕ}$, are Lifshitz-like, with a dynamical exponent $z$ determined by $α$. The black hole thermodynamics varies in an interesting way with $α$, but in all cases the entropy is vanishing and the specific heat is positive …
We show that the 3D charged Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole solution interpolates between two different 2D AdS spacetimes: a near-extremal, near-horizon AdS_2 geometry with constant dilaton and U(1) field and an asymptotic AdS_2 geometry with a linear dilaton. Thus, the charged BTZ black hole can be considered as interpolating between the two different formulations proposed until now for AdS_2 quantum gravity. In both cases the theory is the chiral half of a 2D CFT and describes, respectively, Brown-Hennaux-like boundary deformations and near-horizon excitations. The central charge…
