AdS black holes show richer transition behaviors in extended phase space by assuming the cosmological constant and its conjugate quantity to behave like thermodynamic pressure and thermodynamic volume. We study the extended thermodynamics of charged dilatonic AdS black holes in a class of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories that can be embedded in gauged supergravities in various dimensions. We find that the transition behaviors of higher dimensional dilatonic AdS black holes are different from the four dimensional counterparts, and new transition behaviors emerges in higher dimensions. First, there exists standard Van der Waals transition only in a five dimensional dilatonic AdS black hole with two equal charges. Second, there emerge a new phase transition branch in negative pressure region in six and seven dimensional dilatonic black holes with two equal charges. Third, there emerge transition behaviors in higher dimensional black hole with single charge cases, which are absent in four dimensions.

Using exceptional generalised geometry, we classify which five-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ gauged supergravities can arise as a consistent truncation of 10-/11-dimensional supergravity. Exceptional generalised geometry turns the classification into an algebraic problem of finding subgroups $G_S \subset \mathrm{USp}(8) \subset \mathrm{E}_{6(6)}$ that preserve exactly two spinors. Moreover, the intrinsic torsion of the $G_S$ structure must contain only constant singlets under $G_S$, and these, in turn, determine the gauging of the five-dimensional theory. The resulting five-dimensional theories are…
We construct new 1/2 supersymmetric solutions in D=3, N=2, matter coupled, U(1) gauged supergravities and study some of their properties. In the most general case they represent a string superposed with gravitational and Chern-Simons electromagnetic waves. The waves are attached to the string and the solution satisfies an electromagnetic self-duality relation. When the sigma model is non-compact it interpolates between an asymptotically Kaigorodov space and a naked singularity. For the compact sigma model there is a regular horizon with the Kaigorodov geometry and asymptotically it is either M…
Supersymmetry of five dimensional string solutions is examined in the context of gauged D=5, N=2 supergravity coupled to abelian vector multiplets. We find magnetic black strings preserving one quarter of supersymmetry and approaching the half-supersymmetric product space AdS_3\times H^2 near the event horizon. The solutions thus exhibit the phenomenon of supersymmetry enhancement near the horizon, like in the cases of ungauged supergravity theories, where the near horizon limit is fully supersymmetric. Finally, product space compactifications are studied in detail, and it is shown that only f…
Topological classes of thermodynamics of the static multi-charge AdS black holes in gauged supergravities: novel temperature-dependent thermodynamic topological phase transition
We present f(R) theories of ten-dimensional supergravities, including the fermionic sector up to the quadratic order in fermion fields. They are obtained by performing the conformal scaling on the usual supergravities to the f(R) frame in which the dilaton becomes an auxiliary field and can be integrated out. The f(R) frame coincides with that of M-theory, D2-branes or NS-NS 5-branes. We study various BPS p-brane solutions and their near-horizon AdS \times sphere geometries in the context of the f(R) theories. We find that new solutions emerge with global structures that do not exist in the co…
We perform the generalised dimensional reduction of D=11 supergravity over three-dimensional group manifolds as classified by Bianchi. Thus, we construct eleven different maximal D=8 gauged supergravities, two of which have an additional parameter. One class of group manifolds (class B) leads to supergravities that are defined by a set of equations of motion that cannot be integrated to an action. All 1/2 BPS domain wall solutions are given. We also find a non-supersymmetric domain wall solution where the single transverse direction is time. This solution describes an expanding universe and up…
We find broad classes of solutions to the field equations for d-dimensional gravity coupled to an antisymmetric tensor of arbitrary rank and a scalar field with non-vanishing potential. Our construction generates these configurations from the solution of a single nonlinear ordinary differential equation, whose form depends on the scalar potential. For an exponential potential we find solutions corresponding to brane geometries, generalizing the black p-branes and S-branes known for the case of vanishing potential. These geometries are singular at the origin with up to two (regular) horizons. T…
We have studied scalar potentials V of gauged N=8,4,2 supergravities in d=4. Extrema of these potentials may correspond to de Sitter, anti de Sitter and Minkowski vacua. All de Sitter extrema that we have studied correspond to unstable maximum/saddle points with negative curvature |V''|=2V for the fields canonically normalized at the extremum. This is equivalent to the relation |m^2| =|R|/2 = 6H^2 for the tachyonic mass m, the curvature scalar R, and the Hubble constant H. This prevents the use of de Sitter extrema for slow-roll inflation in the early universe, which would require |V''| \ll V …
We couple n copies of N=(2,0) scalar multiplets to a gauged N=(2,0) supergravity in 2+1 dimensions which admits AdS_3 as a vacuum. The scalar fields are charged under the gauged R-symmetry group U(1) and parametrize certain Kahler manifolds with compact or non-compact isometries. The radii of these manifolds are quantized in the compact case, but arbitrary otherwise. In the compact case, we find half-supersymmetry preserving and asymptotically Minkowskian black string solutions. For a particular value of the scalar manifold radius, the solution coincides with that of Horne and Horowitz found i…
We construct new 1/2 supersymmetric solutions in D=3, N=2, matter coupled, U(1) gauged supergravities and study some of their properties. We do this by employing a quite general supersymmetry breaking condition, from which we also redrive some of the already known solutions. Among the new solutions, we have an explicit non-topological soliton for the non-compact sigma model, a locally flat solution for the compact sigma model and a string-like solution for both types of sigma models. The last one is smooth for the compact scalar manifold.
We show how to construct consistent truncations of 10-/11-dimensional supergravity to 3-dimensional gauged supergravity, preserving various amounts of supersymmetry. We show, that as in higher dimensions, consistent truncations can be defined in terms of generalised $G$-structures in Exceptional Field Theory, with $G \subset E_{8(8)}$ for the 3-dimensional case. Differently from higher dimensions, the generalised Lie derivative of $E_{8(8)}$ Exceptional Field Theory requires a set of "covariantly constrained" fields to be well-defined, and we show how these can be constructed from the $G$-stru…
We show how to construct seven-dimensional half-maximally supersymmetric consistent truncations of 11-/10-dimensional SUGRA using $\mathrm{SL}(5)$ exceptional field theory. Such truncations are defined on generalised $\mathrm{SU}(2)$-structure manifolds and give rise to seven-dimensional half-maximal gauged supergravities coupled to $n$ vector multiplets and thus with scalar coset space $\mathbb{R}^+ \times \mathrm{O}(3,n)/\mathrm{O}(3)\times\mathrm{O}(n)$. The consistency conditions for the truncation can be written in terms of the generalised Lie derivative and take a simple geometric form. …
We present new results towards the construction of the most general black hole solutions in four-dimensional Fayet-Iliopoulos gauged supergravities. In these theories black holes can be asymptotically AdS and have arbitrary mass, angular momentum, electric and magnetic charges and NUT charge. Furthermore, a wide range of horizon topologies is allowed (compact and noncompact) and the complex scalar fields have a nontrivial radial and angular profile. We construct a large class of solutions in the simplest single scalar model with prepotential $F = -i X^0 X^1$ and discuss their thermodynamics. M…
Consistent embeddings are found of the minimal $\mathcal{N} = 2$ and $\mathcal{N} = 3$ gauged supergravities in four dimensions into its maximally supersymmetric, $\mathcal{N} = 8$, counterpart with a dyonic ISO(7) gauging. These minimal truncations retain the metric along with relevant U(1) and SO(3) R-symmetry gauge fields selected from the ISO(7) ones. The remaining ISO(7) gauge fields are turned off, with subtleties introduced by the dyonic gauging, and the scalars are fixed to their expectation values at the $\mathcal{N} = 2$ and $\mathcal{N} = 3$ vacua of the $\mathcal{N} = 8$ theory. Us…
We give holomorphic Chern-Simons-like action functionals on supertwistor space for self-dual supergravity theories in four dimensions, dealing with N=0,...,8 supersymmetries, the cases where different parts of the R-symmetry are gauged, and with or without a cosmological constant. The gauge group is formally the group of holomorphic Poisson transformations of supertwistor space where the form of the Poisson structure determines the amount of R-symmetry gauged and the value of the cosmological constant. We give a formulation in terms of a finite deformation of an integrable \dbar-operator on a …
With the help of a generalized form of the metric ansatz found for the single-charge case in a previous work [S.Q. Wu, Phys. Rev. D 83, 121502(R) (2011)], I adopt a simple algorithm to construct the most general nonextremal rotating charged black hole solutions in five-dimensional $U(1)^3$ gauged supergravity. The general solution that is interesting for testing the AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ correspondence in M-theory, is characterized by its mass, two unequal rotation parameters, three different U(1) charges, and a negative cosmological constant. The metric ansatz is very universal and illuminative, it…
We discuss the dynamics of multiple scalar fields and the possibility of realistic inflation in the maximal gauged supergravity. In this paper, we address this problem in the framework of recently discovered 1-parameter deformation of ${\rm SO}(4,4)$ and ${\rm SO}(5,3)$ dyonic gaugings, for which the base point of the scalar manifold corresponds to an unstable de Sitter critical point. In the gauge-field frame where the embedding tensor takes the value in the sum of the {\bf 36} and {\bf 36'} representations of ${\rm SL}(8)$, we present a scheme that allows us to derive an analytic expression …
We study the thermodynamics of accelerating asymptotically AdS black holes with scalar hair in four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories, which can be embedded in gauged supergravities for specific dilaton coupling constants. These accelerating black holes are described by charged dilaton C metrics, which have unique features but are almost unexplored before. Thermodynamics of slowly accelerating black holes is generalized to include scalar hair. We find that properly accounting for mixed boundary conditions for the scalar field leads to standard consistent first law and other thermod…
We consider a certain ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric, $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ invariant, subsector of the $ω$-deformed family of $SO(8)$-gauged ${\cal N}=8$ four-dimensional supergravities. The theory contains two scalar fields and two pseudoscalar fields. We look for stationary points of the scalar potential, corresponding to AdS vacua in the theory. One of these, which breaks all supersymmetries but is nonetheless stable, is new. It exists only when $ω\ne 0$. We construct supersymmetric domain wall solutions in the truncated theory, and we give a detailed analysis of their holographic dual interpre…
