We consider the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with Maxwellian and hard potentials (i.e with $γ\in[0,1)$) on the whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove that if the initial data $f_{\text{in}}$ are close to the vacuum solution $f_{\text{vac}}=0$ in an appropriate weighted norm then the solution $f$ exists globally in time. This work builds up on the author's earlier work on local existence of solutions to Landau equation with hard potentials. Our proof uses $L^2$ estimates and exploits the null-structure established by Luk [Stability of vacuum for the Landau equation with moderately soft potentials, Annals of PDE (2019) 5:11]. To be able to close our estimates, we have to couple the weighted energy estimates, which were established by the author in a previous paper [Local existence for the Landau equation with hard potentials, arXiv:1910.11866], with the null-structure and devise new weighted norms that take this into account.
Consider the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with moderately soft potentials (i.e. with $γ\in (-2,0)$) on the whole space $\mathbb R^3$. We prove that if the initial data $f_{\mathrm{in}}$ are close to the vacuum solution $f_{\mathrm{vac}} \equiv 0$ in an appropriate norm, then the solution $f$ remains regular globally in time. This is the first stability of vacuum result for a binary collisional model featuring a long-range interaction. Moreover, we prove that the solutions in the near-vacuum regime approach solutions to the linear transport equation as $t\to +\infty$. Furthermore, in…
We study the asymptotic behaviour, as a small parameter $\varepsilon$ tends to zero, of minimisers of a Ginzburg-Landau type energy with a nonlinear penalisation potential vanishing on a compact submanifold $\mathcal{N}$ and with a given $\mathcal{N}$-valued Dirichlet boundary data. We show that minimisers converge up to a subsequence to a singular $\mathcal{N}$-valued harmonic map, which is smooth outside a finite number of points around which the energy concentrates and whose singularities' location minimises a renormalised energy, generalising known results by Bethuel, Brezis and Hélein for…
In this paper, the two-component Ginzburg-Landau (TCGL) model, which is an important research object in mathematics and physics of two scalar fields with $U(1)\times U(1)$ symmetry, is studied in detail by the shooting method and the fixed point theorem, which contains two cases: single vacuum expectation value (1VEV) and two vacuum expectation values (2VEV). This represents two different physical states: superconductivity-normal state and superconductivity superconductivity state, and we prove the existence, uniqueness, asymptotic properties and quantization of the solutions to these two boun…
We study the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations with hard potential in the perturbation setting, and establish the analytic smoothing effect in both spatial and velocity variables for a class of low-regularity weak solutions. This shows the Landau equations behave essentially as the hypoelliptic Fokker-Planck operators. The spatial analyticity relies on a new time-average operator, and the proof is based on a straightforward energy estimate with a careful estimate on the derivatives with respect to the new time-average operator.
In this document we discuss the long time behaviour for the homogeneous Landau-Fermi-Dirac equation in the hard potential case. Uniform in time estimates for statistical moments and Sobolev regularity are presented and used to prove exponential relaxation of non degenerate distributions to the Fermi-Dirac statistics. All these results are valid for rather general initial datum. An important feature of the estimates is the independence with respect to the quantum parameter. Consequently, in the classical limit the same estimates are recovered for the Landau equation.
We establish the well-posedness and some quantitative stability of the spatially homogeneous Landau equation for hard potentials, using some specific Monge-Kantorovich cost, assuming only that the initial condition is a probability measure with a finite moment of order $p$ for some $p>2$. As a consequence, we extend previous regularity results and show that all non-degenerate measure-valued solutions to the Landau equation, with a finite initial energy, immediately admit analytic densities with finite entropy. Along the way, we prove that the Landau equation instantaneously creates Gaussian mo…
We consider weak solutions of the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials ($γ\in (0,1]$), under the assumption that mass, energy, and entropy densities are under control. In this regime, with arbitrary initial data, we show that solutions satisfy pointwise Gaussian upper and lower bounds in the velocity variable. This is different from the behavior in the soft potentials case ($γ<0$), where Gaussian estimates are known not to hold without corresponding assumptions on the initial data. Our upper bounds imply weak solutions are $C^\infty$ in all three variables, and that con…
We consider the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials (i.e. with $γ\in [0,1]$) on the whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove existence and uniquenss of solutions for a small time, assuming that the initial data is in a weighted tenth-order Sobolev space and has exponential decay in the velocity variable. In constrast to the soft potential case, local existence for the hard potentials case has been missing from the literature. This is because the moment loss issue is the most severe for these potentials. To get over this issue, our proof relies on a weighted hierarchy of no…
In this work, we study the Cauchy problem of the spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials in a close-to-quilibrium framework. We prove that the solution to the Cauchy problem enjoys the analytic regularizing effect of the time variable with an L2 initial datum for positive time. So that the smoothing effect of Cauchy problem for the spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials is exactly same as heat equation.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equation with soft potentials in the case of large (i.e. non-perturbative) initial data. We construct a solution for any bounded, measurable initial data with uniform polynomial decay in the velocity variable, and that satisfies a technical lower bound assumption (but can have vacuum regions). For uniqueness in this weak class, we have to make the additional assumption that the initial data is Hölder continuous. Our hypotheses are much weaker, in terms of regularity and decay, than previous large-data well-posedness results …
In this manuscript we establish an $L^\infty$ estimate for the isotropic analogue of the homogeneous Landau equation. This is done for values of the interaction exponent $γ$ in (a part of) the range of very soft potentials. The main observation in our proof is that the classical weighted Hardy inequality leads to a weighted Poincaré inequality, which in turn implies the propagation of some $L^p$ norms of solutions. From here, the $L^\infty$ estimate follows from certain weighted Sobolev inequalities and De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory.
In this note we prove that, under some minimal regularity assumptions on the initial datum, solutions to the spatially homogenous Boltzmann and Landau equations for hard potentials uniformly propagate the Fisher information. The proof of such a result is based upon some explicit pointwise lower bound on solutions to Boltzmann equation and strong diffusion properties for the Landau equation. We include an application of this result related to emergence and propagation of exponential tails for the solution's gradient. These results complement estimates provided in the literature.
In this work, we study the nonlinear spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potential in a close-to-equilibrium framework, we show that the solution to the Cauchy problem with $L^2$ initial datum enjoys a analytic Gelfand-Shilov regularizing effect in the class $S^1_1(\mathbb{R}^3)$, meaning that the solution of the Cauchy problem and its Fourier transformation are analytic for any positive time, the evolution of analytic radius is similar to the heat equation.
In this paper, we study the Landau equation under the Navier-Stokes scaling in the torus for hard and moderately soft potentials. More precisely, we investigate the Cauchy theory in a perturbative framework and establish some new short time regularization estimates for our rescaled nonlinear Landau equation. These estimates are quantified in time and optimal, indeed, we obtain the instantaneous expected anisotropic gain of regularity (see [53] for the corresponding hypoelliptic estimates on the linearized Landau collision operator). Moreover, the estimates giving the gain of regularity in the …
In this paper, we present new estimates for the entropy dissipation of the Landau-Fermi-Dirac equation (with hard or moderately soft potentials) in terms of a weighted relative Fisher information adapted to this equation. Such estimates are used for studying the large time behaviour of the equation, as well as for providing new a priori estimates (in the soft potential case). An important feature of such estimates is that they are uniform with respect to the quantum parameter. Consequently, the same estimations are recovered for the classical limit, that is the Landau equation.
