We consider the parabolic polyharmonic diffusion and $L^2$-gradient flows of the $m$-th arclength derivative of curvature for regular closed curves evolving with generalised Neumann boundary conditions. In the polyharmonic case, we prove that if the curvature of the initial curve is small in $L^2$, then the evolving curve converges exponentially in the $C^\infty$ topology to a straight horizontal line segment. The same behaviour is shown for the $L^2$-gradient flow provided the energy of the initial curve is sufficiently small. In each case the smallness conditions depend only on $m$.
We investigate the relation between the level set approach and the varifold approach for the mean curvature flow with Neumann boundary conditions. With an appropriate initial data, we prove that the almost all level sets of the unique viscosity level set solution satisfy Brakke's inequality and a generalized Neumann boundary condition.
In this paper, we study the mean curvature flow of graphs with Neumann boundary condition. The main aim is to use the maximum principle to get the boundary gradient estimate for solutions. In particular, we obtain the corresponding existence theorem for the mean curvature flow of graphs.
We study the mean curvature flow of graphs both with Neumann boundary conditions and transport terms. We derive boundary gradient estimates for the mean curvature flow. As an application, the existence of the mean curvature flow of graphs is presented. A key argument is a boundary monotonicity formula of a Huisken type derived using reflected backward heat kernels. Furthermore, we provide regularity conditions for the transport terms.
In this paper, we use the maximum principle to get the gradient estimate for the solutions of the prescribed mean curvature equation with Neumann boundary value problem, which gives a positive answer for the question raised by Lieberman \cite{Lieb13} in page 360. As a consequence, we obtain the corresponding existence theorem for a class of mean curvature equations. Moreover we can get a new proof of the gradient estimates for the mean curvature equation with prescribed contact angle boundary value problem.
We analyze existence, multiplicity and oscillatory behavior of positive radial solutions to a class of quasilinear equations governed by the Lorentz-Minkowski mean curvature operator. The equation is set in a ball or an annulus of $\mathbb R^N$, is subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, and involves a nonlinear term on which we do not impose any growth condition at infinity. The main tool that we use is the shooting method for ODEs.

In this paper we study the problem of prescribing the Gaussian curvature under a conformal change of the metric. We are concerned with the problem posed on a subdomain of the 2-sphere under Neumann boundary conditions of the conformal factor. If the area of the subdomain is greater than 2π, the associated energy functional is no longer bounded from below. We treat this case by using min-max techniques, giving a new existence result that generalizes and unifies previous work on the argument.
Here, we study a level-set forced mean curvature flow with the homogeneous Neumann boundary condition. We first show that the solution is Lipschitz in time and locally Lipschitz in space. Then, under an additional condition on the forcing term, we prove that the solution is globally Lipschitz. We obtain the large time behavior of the solution in this setting and study the large time profile in some specific situations. Finally, we give two examples demonstrating that the additional condition on the forcing term is sharp, and without it, the solution might not be globally Lipschitz.
In this paper, we prove long time existence and convergence results for a class of general curvature flows with Neumann boundary condition. This is the first result for the Neumann boundary problem of non Monge-Ampere type curvature equations. Our method also works for the corresponding elliptic setting.
In this paper, we investigate the critical points of solutions to the prescribed constant mean curvature equation with Neumann and Robin boundary conditions respectively in a bounded smooth convex domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^{n}(n\geq2)$. Firstly, we show the non-degeneracy and uniqueness of the critical points of solutions in a planar domain by using the local Chen & Huang's comparison technique and the geometric properties of approximate surfaces at the non-degenerate critical points. Secondly, we deduce the uniqueness and non-degeneracy of the critical points of solutions in a rotationally sy…
We study mean curvature flow of smooth, axially symmetric surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Neumann boundary data. We show that all singularities at the first singular time must be of type I.
We give new estimates on the lower bounds for the first closed or Neumann eigenvalue for a compact manifold with positive Ricci curvature in terms of the diameter and the lower bound of Ricci curvature. The results improve the previous estimates.
We revisit a construction principle of Fredholm operators using Hilbert complexes of densely defined, closed linear operators and apply this to particular choices of differential operators. The resulting index is then computed with the help of explicitly describing the dimension of the cohomology groups of generalised (`harmonic') Dirichlet and Neumann tensor fields. The main results of this contribution are the computation of the indices of Dirac-type operators associated to the elasticity complex and the newly found biharmonic complex, relevant for the biharmonic equation, elasticity, and fo…
We prove the existence of multiple positive BV-solutions of the Neumann problem $$ \begin{cases} \displaystyle -\left(\frac{u'}{\sqrt{1+u'^2}}\right)'=a(x)f(u)\quad&\mbox{in }(0,1), u'(0)=u'(1)=0,& {cases} $$ where $a(x) > 0$ and $f$ belongs to a class of nonlinear functions whose prototype example is given by $f(u) = -λu + u^p$, for $λ> 0$ and $p > 1$. In particular, $f(0)=0$ and $f$ has a unique positive zero, denoted by $u_0$. Solutions are distinguished by the number of intersections (in a generalized sense) with the constant solution $u = u_0$. We further prove that the solutions found ha…
We consider strictly convex hypersurfaces which are evolving by the non-parametric logarithmic Gauss curvature flow subject to a Neumann boundary condition. Solutions are shown to converge smoothly to hypersurfaces moving by translation. In particular, for bounded domains we prove that convex functions with prescribed normal derivative satisfy a uniform oscillation estimate.
In this paper we study the Neumann problem for a type of fully nonlinear second order elliptic partial differential equations on domains in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ without any curvature assumptions on the domain.
We prove the existence of Sobolev extension operators for certain uniform classes of domains in a Riemannian manifold with an explicit uniform bound on the norm depending only on the geometry near their boundaries. We use this quantitative estimate to obtain uniform Neumann heat kernel upper bounds and gradient estimates for positive solutions of the Neumann heat equation assuming integral Ricci curvature conditions and geometric conditions on the boundary. Those estimates also imply quantitative lower bounds on the first Neumann eigenvalue of the considered domains.
We show that small energy curves under a particular sixth order curvature flow with generalised Neumann boundary conditions between parallel lines converge exponentially in the smooth topology in infinite time to straight lines.
We consider the following Liouville-type equation with exponential Neumann boundary condition: $$ -Δ\tilde u = \varepsilon^2 K(x) e^{2\tilde u}, \quad x\in D, \qquad \frac{\partial \tilde u}{\partial n} + 1 = \varepsilon κ(x) e^{\tilde u}, \quad x\in\partial D, $$ where $D\subset \mathbb R^2$ is the unit disc, $\varepsilon^2 K(x)$ and $\varepsilon κ(x)$ stand for the prescribed Gaussian curvature and the prescribed geodesic curvature of the boundary, respectively. We prove the existence of concentration solutions if $κ(x) + \sqrt{K(x)+κ(x)^2}$ ($x\in\partial D$) has a strictly local extremum p…
We prove the existence of a pair of positive radial solutions for the Neumann boundary value problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \, \mathrm{div}\,\Biggl{(} \dfrac{\nabla u}{\sqrt{1- | \nabla u |^{2}}}\Biggr{)} + λa(|x|)u^p = 0, & \text{in $B$,} \\ \, \partial_νu=0, & \text{on $\partial B$,} \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $B$ is a ball centered at the origin, $a(|x|)$ is a radial sign-changing function with $\int_B a(|x|)\,\mathrm{d}x < 0$, $p>1$ and $λ> 0$ is a large parameter. The proof is based on the Leray-Schauder degree theory and extends to a larger class of nonlinearities.
For a given bounded domain $Ω$ with smooth boundary in a smooth Riemannian manifold $(\mathcal{M},g)$, we show that the Poisson type upper-estimate of the heat kernel associated to the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator, the Sobolev trace inequality, the Log-Sobolev trace inequality, the Nash trace inequality, and the Rozenblum-Lieb-Cwikel type inequality are all equivalent. Upon decomposing the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator into a sum of the square root of the Laplacian and a pseudodifferntial operator and by applying Grubb's method of symbolic calculus for the corresponding pseudodifferential hea…
This note introduces a class of nonlinear Neumann problems on balls expanding with the radii tending towards infinity. Performing singular perturbation arguments, we establish the corresponding concentration phenomenon and refined asymptotic expansions with the precise first two order terms. In doing so, we obtain the nontrivial boundary structure of solutions with effects coming from the nonlinear Neumann boundary condition and the boundary mean curvature varied with expanding domains.
In this paper we classify the solutions to the geometric Neumann problem for the Liouville equation in the upper half-plane or an upper half-disk, with the energy condition given by finite area. As a result, we classify the conformal Riemannian metrics of constant curvature and finite area on a half-plane that have a finite number of boundary singularities, not assumed a priori to be conical, and constant geodesic curvature along each boundary arc.
We study a singular limit problem of the Allen-Cahn equation with the homogeneous Neumann boundary condition on non-convex domains with smooth boundaries under suitable assumptions for initial data. The main result is the convergence of the time parametrized family of the diffused surface energy to Brakke's mean curvature flow with a generalized right angle condition on the boundary of the domain.
We prove that optimal lower eigenvalue estimates of Zhong-Yang type as well as a Cheng-type upper bound for the first eigenvalue hold on closed manifolds assuming only a Kato condition on the negative part of the Ricci curvature. This generalizes all earlier results on $L^p$-curvature assumptions. Moreover, we introduce the Kato condition on compact manifolds with boundary with respect to the Neumann Laplacian, leading to Harnack estimates for the Neumann heat kernel and lower bounds for all Neumann eigenvalues, what provides a first insight in handling variable Ricci curvature assumptions in …
In this paper we study the number of the boundary single peak solutions of the problem {align*} {cases} -\varepsilon^2 Δu + u = u^p, &\text{in}Ωu > 0, &\text{in}Ω\frac{\partial u}{\partial ν} = 0,& \text{on}\partial Ω{cases} {align*} for $\varepsilon$ small and $p$ subcritical. Under some suitable assumptions on the shape of the boundary near a critical point of the mean curvature, we are able to prove exact multiplicity results. Note that the degeneracy of the critical point is allowed.
In this paper we study the shape of least-energy solutions to a singularly perturbed quasilinear problem with homogeneous Neumann boundary condition. We use an intrinsic variation method to show that at limit, the global maximum point of least-energy solutions goes to a point on the boundary faster than the linear rate and this point on the boundary approaches to a point where the mean curvature of the boundary achieves its maximum. We also give a complete proof of exponential decay of least-energy solutions.
We obtain a complete asymptotic expansion for the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann maps associated with Schrödinger operators on compact Riemannian surfaces with boundary. For the zero potential, we recover the well-known spectral asymptotics for the Steklov problem. For nonzero potentials, we obtain new geometric invariants determined by the spectrum of what we call the parametric Steklov problem. In particular, for constant potentials parametric Steklov problem, the total geodesic curvature on each connected component of the boundary is a spectral invariant. Under the constant curvatu…
In this paper, we will use the maximum principle to give a new proof of the gradient estimates for mean curvature equations with some oblique derivative problems. Specially, we shall give a new proof for the capillary problem with zero gravity in any dimension $n\geq 2$ and Neumann problem in $n=2, 3$ dimensions.
We study a singular limit problem of the Allen-Cahn equation with Neumann boundary conditions and general initial data of uniformly bounded energy. We prove that the time-parametrized family of limit energy measures is Brakke's mean curvature flow with a generalized right angle condition on the boundary.

We consider a fully nonlinear parabolic equation with nonlinear Neumann type boundary condition, and show that the longtime existence and convergence of the flow. Finally we apply this study to the boundary value problem for minimal Lagrangian graphs.
We prove the existence of $C^{1,1}$ isometric immersions of several classes of metrics on surfaces $(\mathcal{M},g)$ into the three-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$, where the metrics $g$ have strictly negative curvature. These include the standard hyperbolic plane, generalised helicoid-type metrics and generalised Enneper metrics. Our proof is based on the method of compensated compactness and invariant regions in hyperbolic conservation laws, together with several observations on the geometric quantities (Gauss curvature, metric components etc.) of negatively curved surfaces.
Let (M,g) be a smooth compact, n dimensional Riemannian manifold, n=3,4 with smooth n-1 dimensional boundary. We search the positive solutions of the singularly perturbed Klein Gordon Maxwell Proca system with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions or for the singularly perturbed Klein Gordon Maxwell system with mixed Dirichlet Neumann homogeneous boundary conditions. We prove that stable critical points of the mean curvature of the boundary generates solutions when the perturbation parameter is sufficiently small.
We investigate the formation of singularities for surfaces evolving by volume preserving mean curvature flow. For axially symmetric flows - surfaces of revolution - in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Neumann boundary conditions, we prove that the first developing singularity is of Type I. The result is obtained without any additional curvature assumptions being imposed, while axial symmetry and boundary conditions are justifiable given the volume constraint. Additional results and ingredients towards the main proof include a non-cylindrical parabolic maximum principle, and a series of estimates on geometr…
Let $ Ω\subset R^2$ be a bounded piecewise smooth domain and $ϕ_λ$ be a Neumann (or Dirichlet) eigenfunction with eigenvalue $λ^2$ and nodal set ${ N}_{ϕ_λ} = {x \in Ω; ϕ_λ(x) = 0}.$ Let $H \subset Ω$ be an interior $C^ω$ curve. Consider the intersection number $$ n(λ,H):= \# (H \cap N_{ϕ_λ} ).$$ We first prove that for general piecewise-analytic domains, and under an appropriate "goodness" condition on $H$, $$ n(λ,H) = {\mathcal O}_H(λ) (*)$$ as $λ\rightarrow \infty.$ We then prove that the bound in $(*)$ is satisfied in the case of quantum ergodic (QE) sequences of interior eigenfunctions, p…
