We consider the following Liouville-type equation with exponential Neumann boundary condition: $$ -Δ\tilde u = \varepsilon^2 K(x) e^{2\tilde u}, \quad x\in D, \qquad \frac{\partial \tilde u}{\partial n} + 1 = \varepsilon κ(x) e^{\tilde u}, \quad x\in\partial D, $$ where $D\subset \mathbb R^2$ is the unit disc, $\varepsilon^2 K(x)$ and $\varepsilon κ(x)$ stand for the prescribed Gaussian curvature and the prescribed geodesic curvature of the boundary, respectively. We prove the existence of concentration solutions if $κ(x) + \sqrt{K(x)+κ(x)^2}$ ($x\in\partial D$) has a strictly local extremum point, which is a total new result for exponential Neumann boundary problem.
We consider the following singularly perturbed elliptic problem \[ - {\varepsilon ^2}Δu + u = f(u){\text{ in }}Ω,{\text{ }}u > 0{\text{ in }}Ω,{\text{ }}u = 0{\text{ on }}\partial Ω, \] where $Ω$ is a domain in ${\mathbb{R}^N}(N \ge 3)$, not necessarily bounded, with boundary $\partial Ω\in {C^2}$ and the nonlinearity $f$ is of critical growth. In this paper, we construct a family of multi-peak solutions to the equation given above which concentrate around any prescribed finite sets of local maxima of the distance function from the boundary $\partial Ω$.
We consider the problem of prescribing Gaussian and geodesic curvatures for a conformal metric on the unit disk. This is equivalent to solving the following P.D.E. \begin{equation*}\begin{cases}-Δu=2K(z)e^u&\hbox{in}\;\mathbb{D}^2,\\ \partial_νu+2=2h(z)e^\frac u2&\hbox{on}\;\partial\mathbb{D}^2,\end{cases} \end{equation*} where $K,h$ are the prescribed curvatures. We construct a family of conformal metrics with curvatures $K_\varepsilon,h_\varepsilon$ converging to $K,h$ respectively as $\varepsilon$ goes to $0$, which blows up at one boundary point under some generic assumptions.
This paper is concerned with the compactness of metrics of the disk with prescribed Gaussian and geodesic curvatures. We consider a blowing-up sequence of metrics and give a precise description of its asymptotic behavior. In particular, the metrics blow-up at a unique point on the boundary and we are able to give necessary conditions on its location. It turns out that such conditions depend locally on the Gaussian curvatures but they depend on the geodesic curvatures in a nonlocal way. This is a novelty with respect to the classical Nirenberg problem where the blow-up conditions are local, and…
We consider the problem of prescribing the Gaussian and the geodesic curvatures of a compact surface with boundary by a conformal deformation of the metric. We derive some existence results using a variational approach, either by minimization of the Euler-Lagrange energy or via min-max methods. One of the main tools in our approach is a blow-up analysis of solutions, which in the present setting can have diverging volume. To our knowledge, this is the first time in which such an aspect is treated. Key ingredients in our arguments are: a blow-up analysis around a sequence of points different fr…
We consider a periodically perforated domain obtained by making in R^n a periodic set of holes, each of them of size proportional to ε. Then we introduce a nonlinear boundary value problem for the Lamé equations in such a periodically perforated domain. The unknown of the problem is a vector valued function u which represents the displacement attained in the equilibrium configuration by the points of a periodic linearly elastic matrix with a hole of size εcontained in each periodic cell. We assume that the traction exerted by the matrix on the boundary of each hole depends (nonlinearly) on the…
This paper is concerned with the existence of conformal metrics of the disk with prescribed Gaussian and geodesic curvatures. Being more specific, given nonnegative smooth functions $K: \overline{\mathbb{D}} \to \mathbb{R}$ and $h: \partial \mathbb{D} \to \mathbb{R}$, we consider the problem of finding a conformal metric realizing $K$ and $h$ as Gaussian and geodesic curvatures, respectively. This is the natural analogue of the classical Nirenberg problem posed on the disk. As we shall see, both curvatures play a role in the existence of solutions. Indeed we are able to give existence results …
We study a singularly perturbed problem related to infinity Laplacian operator with prescribed boundary values in a region. We prove that solutions are locally (uniformly) Lipschitz continuous, they grow as a linear function, are strongly non-degenerate and have porous level surfaces. Moreover, for some restricted cases we show the finiteness of the (n-1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure of level sets. The analysis of the asymptotic limits is carried out as well.
We prove that the second nontrivial Neumann eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^n \subseteq \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ is maximized by the union of two disjoint, equal, geodesic balls among all subsets of $\mathbb{S}^n$ of prescribed volume. In fact, the result holds in a stronger version, involving the harmonic mean of the eigenvalues of order $2$ to $n$, and extends to densities. A (surprising) consequence occurs on the maximality of a geodesic ball for the first nontrivial eigenvalue under the volume constraint: the hemisphere inclusion condition of the Ashbaug…

We study conformal metrics with prescribed Gaussian curvature on surfaces with conical singularities and geodesic boundary in supercritical regimes. Exploiting a variational argument, we derive a general existence result for surfaces with at least two boundary components. This seems to be the first result in this setting. Moreover, we allow to have conical singularities with both positive and negative orders, that is cone angles both less and grater than $2π$.
In this article, we give results of prescribing scalar and mean curvature functions for metrics either pointwise conformal or conformally equivalent to a Riemannian metric that is equipped on a compact manifold with boundary, with dimensions at least $ 3 $. The results are classified by the sign of the first eigenvalue of the conformal Laplacian. This leads to a "Trichotomy Theorem" in terms of both scalar and mean curvature functions, which is a full extension of the "Trichotomy Theorem" given by Kazdan and Warner. We also discuss prescribing Gauss and geodesic curvature problems on compact R…
In this paper we prove classification results to elliptic fully nonlinear conformal equations on certain subdomains of the sphere with prescribed constant mean curvature on its boundary. Such subdomains are the hemisphere (or a geodesic ball on $\mathbb{S}^n$) of dimension $n\geq 2$ with prescribed constant mean curvature on its boundary, and annular domains with minimal boundary. Our results extend the classifications of Escobar in \cite{E0} when $n\geq 3$, and Hang-Wang in \cite{HaWa} and Jimenez in \cite{J} when $n=2$.
The paper is concerned with comparative analysis of differential and integral formulations for boundary value problems in nonlocal elasticity. For the sake of simplicity, the focus is on an antiplane problem for a half-space for an exponential kernel. First, a surface loading in the form of a travelling harmonic wave is studied. This provides a counter-example, revealing that within the framework of Eringen's theory the solution to the differential model does not satisfy the equation of motion in nonlocal stresses underlying the related integral formulation. A more general differential setup, …
We study constant mean curvature graphs in the Riemannian 3-dimensional Heisenberg spaces ${\cal H}={\cal H}(τ)$. Each such ${\cal H}$ is the total space of a Riemannian submersion onto the Euclidean plane $\mathbb{R}^2$ with geodesic fibers the orbits of a Killing field. We prove the existence and uniqueness of CMC graphs in ${\cal H}$ with respect to the Riemannian submersion over certain domains $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ taking on prescribed boundary values.

We study the volume functional on the space of constant scalar curvature metrics with a prescribed boundary metric. We derive a sufficient and necessary condition for a metric to be a critical point, and show that the only domains in space forms, on which the standard metrics are critical points, are geodesic balls. In the zero scalar curvature case, assuming the boundary can be isometrically embedded in the Euclidean space as a compact strictly convex hypersurface, we show that the volume of a critical point is always no less than the Euclidean volume bounded by the isometric embedding of the…
