In this paper, we highlight that the point group structure of elliptic curves over finite or infinite fields, may be also observed on singular cubics with a quadratic component. Starting from this, we are able to introduce in a very general way a group's structure over any kind of conics. In the case of conics over finite fields, we see that the point group is cyclic and lies on the quadric; the straight line component plays a role which may be not explicitly visible in the algebraic description of point composition, but it is indispensable in the geometric description. Moreover, some applications to cryptography are described, considering convenient parametrizations of the conics. Finally, we perform an evaluation of the complexity of the operations involved in the parametric groups and consequently in the cryptographic applications.
We propose three kinds of explicit formulas for the elliptic lambda function by the elliptic modular function. Further, we derive incredible cubic identities as a corollary of our explicit formulas and evaluate some singular values of the elliptic lambda function explicitly.
Let $n$ be a positive multiple of $4$. We establish an asymptotic formula for the number of rational points of bounded height on singular cubic hypersurfaces $S_n$ defined by $$ x^3=(y_1^2 + \cdots + y_n^2)z . $$ This result is new in two aspects: first, it can be viewed as a modest start on the study of density of rational points on those singular cubic hypersurfaces which are not covered by the classical theorems of Davenport or Heath-Brown; second, it proves Manin's conjecture for singular cubic hypersurfaces $S_n$ defined above.

Let S Q denote x 3 = Q(y 1 ,. .. , y m)z where Q is a primitive positive definite quadratic form in m variables with integer coefficients. This S Q ranges over a class of singular cubic hypersurfaces as Q varies. For S Q we prove (i) Manin's conjecture is true if Q is locally determined with 2 | m and m 4; (ii) in general Manin's conjecture is true up to a leading constant if 2 | m and m 6.
In this article, we introduce a systematic and uniform construction of non-singular plane curves of odd degrees $n \geq 5$ which violate the local-global principle. Our construction works unconditionally for $n$ divisible by $p^2$ for some odd prime number $p$. Moreover, our construction also works for $n$ divisible by some $p \geq 5$ which satisfies a conjecture on $p$-adic properties of the fundamental units of $\mathbb{Q}(p^{1/3})$ and $\mathbb{Q}((2p)^{1/3})$. This conjecture is a natural cubic analogue of the classical Ankeny-Artin-Chowla-Mordell conjecture for $\mathbb{Q}(p^{1/2})$ and e…
We prove Manin's conjecture for a singular cubic surface S with a singularity of type E6. If U is the open subset of S obtained by deleting the unique line from S, then the number of rational points in U with anticanonical height bounded by B behaves asymptotically as cB(log B)^6, where the constant c agrees with the one conjectured by Peyre.
Let U denote the open subset formed by deleting the unique line from the singular cubic surface x_1x_2^2+x_2x_0^2+x_3^3=0. In this paper an asymptotic formula is obtained for the number of rational points on U of bounded height, which thereby verifies the Manin conjecture for this particular surface.
We show that the number of non-trivial rational points of height at most $B$, that lie on the cubic surface $x_1x_2x_3=x_4(x_1+x_2+x_3)^2$, has order of magnitude $B(\log B)^6$. This agrees with the Manin conjecture.
We establish Manin's conjecture for a cubic surface split over Q and whose singularity type is 2A_2+A_1. For this, we make use of a deep result about the equidistribution of the values of a certain restricted divisor function in three variables in arithmetic progressions. This result is due to Friedlander and Iwaniec (and was later improved by Heath-Brown) and draws on the work of Deligne.
A conjecture of Manin predicts the distribution of K-rational points on certain algebraic varieties defined over a number field K. In recent years, a method using universal torsors has been successfully applied to several hard special cases of Manin's conjecture over the field Q of rational numbers. Combining this method with techniques developed by Schanuel, we give a proof of Manin's conjecture over arbitrary number fields for the singular cubic surface S given by the equation w^3 = x y z.
In this paper, we classify torsion groups of rational Mordell curves explicitly over cubic fields as well as over sextic fields. Also, we classify torsion groups of Mordell curves over cubic fields and for Mordell curves over sextic fields, we produce all possible torsion groups.
Manin's conjecture predicts the asymptotic behavior of the number of rational points of bounded height on algebraic varieties. For toric varieties, it was proved by Batyrev and Tschinkel via height zeta functions and an application of the Poisson formula. An alternative approach to Manin's conjecture via universal torsors was used so far mainly over the field Q of rational numbers. In this note, we give a proof of Manin's conjecture over the Gaussian rational numbers Q(i) and over other imaginary quadratic number fields with class number 1 for the singular toric cubic surface defined by t^3=xy…
For any finite field k of characteristic exceeding 3, the Hasse principle and weak approximation is established for non-singular cubic hypersurfaces X over the function field k(t), provided that X has dimension at least 6.
We prove that, on average, the monogenicity or $n$-monogenicity of a cubic field has an altering effect on the behavior of the 2-torsion in its class group.
Given any family of cubic fields defined by local conditions at finitely many primes, we determine the mean number of 2-torsion elements in the class groups and narrow class groups of these cubic fields when ordered by their absolute discriminants. For an order $\cal O$ in a cubic field, we study the three groups: $\rm Cl_2(\cal O)$, the group of ideal classes of $\cal O$ of order 2; $\rm Cl^+_2(\cal O)$, the group of narrow ideal classes of $\cal O$ of order 2; and ${\cal I}_2(\cal O)$, the group of ideals of $\cal O$ of order 2. We prove that the mean value of the difference $|\rm Cl_2({\cal…
We establish the non-singular Hasse Principle for pairs of diagonal quartic equations in 22 or more variables. Our methods involve the estimation of a certain entangled two-dimensional 21st moment of quartic smooth Weyl sums via a novel cubic moment of Fourier coefficients.
We prove upper bounds for the number of rational points on non-singular cubic curves defined over the rationals. The bounds are uniform in the curve and involve the rank of the corresponding Jacobian. The method used in the proof is a combination of the "determinant method" with an m-descent on the curve.
Bhargava, Hanke, and Shankar have recently shown that the asymptotic average $2$-torsion subgroup size of the family of class groups of monogenized cubic fields with positive and negative discriminants is $3/2$ and $2$, respectively. In this paper, we provide strong computational evidence for these asymptotes. We then develop a pair of novel conjectures that predicts, for $p$ prime, the asymptotic average $p$-torsion subgroup size in class groups of monogenized cubic fields.
A version of the Hardy-Littlewood circle method is developed for number fields K/Q and is used to show that non-singular projective cubic hypersurfaces over K always have a K-rational point when they have dimension at least 8.
In this note, we establish an asymptotic formula for the number of rational points of bounded height on the singular cubic surface $$ x_0(x_1^2 + x_2^2)=x_3^3 $$ with a power-saving error term, which verifies the Manin-Peyre conjectures for this surface.
Let $E$ be a modular elliptic curve over a totally real cubic field. We have a cubic-triple product motive over $\mathbb{Q}$ constructed from $E$ through multiplicative induction; it is of rank $8$. We show that, under certain assumptions on $E$, the non-vanishing of the central critical value of the $L$-function attached to the motive implies that the dimension of the associated Bloch-Kato Selmer group is $0$.
We investigate the average number of solutions of certain quadratic congruences. As an application, we establish Manin's conjecture for a cubic surface whose singularity type is A_5+A_1.
We report on our project to construct non-singular cubic surfaces over $\bbQ$ with a rational line. Our method is to start with degree 4 Del Pezzo surfaces in diagonal form. For these, we develop an explicit version of Galois descent.
We are concerned with finding explicit generators of the Brauer group of diagonal cubic surfaces in terms of norm residue symbols, which was originally studied by Manin. We introduce the notion of uniform generators and find that the Brauer group of some classes of diagonal cubic surfaces have uniform generators. However, we also prove that the Brauer group of general diagonal cubic surfaces do not have such ones. This reveals that a result of Manin for certain diagonal cubic surfaces cannot be generalized in some sense.
Let X be a geometrically integral projective cubic hypersurface defined over the rationals, with dimension D and singular locus of dimension at most D-4. For any ε>0, we show that X contains O(B^{D+ε}) rational points of height at most B. The implied constant in this estimate depends upon the choice of εand the coefficients of the cubic form defining X.
We establish estimates for the number of solutions of certain affine congruences. These estimates are then used to prove Manin's conjecture for a cubic surface split over Q and whose singularity type is D_4. This improves on a result of Browning and answers a problem posed by Tschinkel.
Let g be a cubic polynomial with integer coefficients and n>9 variables, and assume that the congruence g=0 modulo p^k is soluble for all prime powers p^k. We show that the equation g=0 has infinitely many integer solutions when the cubic part of g defines a projective hypersurface with singular locus of dimension <n-10. The proof is based on the Hardy-Littlewood circle method.
For given non-zero integers a,b,q we investigate the density of integer solutions (x,y) to the binary cubic congruence ax^2+by^3=0 (mod q). We use this to establish the Manin conjecture for a singular del Pezzo surface of degree 2 defined over the rationals and to examine the distribution of elliptic curves with square-free discriminant.
To any cubic surface, one can associate a cubic threefold given by a triple cover of $\mathbb P^3$ branched in this cubic surface. D. Allcock, J. Carlson, and D. Toledo used this construction to define the period map for cubic surfaces. It is interesting to calculate this map for some specific cubic surfaces. In this paper, we have calculated it in the case when the cubic surface is given by a triple covering of $\mathbb P^2$ branched in a smooth elliptic curve. In this case, the periods can be expressed through periods of the corresponding elliptic curve.
