In 2010, Olson \& Robinson [Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, 362(1), 145-168] introduced the notion of an almost homogeneous metric space and showed that if $X$ is a subset of a Hilbert space such that $X-X$ is almost homogeneous, then $X$ admits almost bi--Lipschitz embeddings into Euclidean spaces. In this paper, we extend this result and we show that if $X$ is a subset of a Banach space such that $X-X$ is almost homogeneous at the origin, then $X$ can be embedded in a Euclidean space in an almost bi--Lipschitz way.
In this paper, we pursue the study of harmonic functions on the real hyperbolic ball started by the second named author. Our focus here is on the theory of Hardy, Hardy-Sobolev and Lipschitz spaces of these functions. We prove here that these spaces admit Fefferman-Stein like characterizations in terms of maximal and square functionals. We further prove that the hyperbolic harmonic extension of Lipschitz functions on the boundary extend into Lipschitz functions on the whole ball.
When 0<p<1, it is known that the p-Bloch and (1-p)-Lipschitz spaces of the unit ball in n-dimensional complex Eucllidean space are equal as sets. We prove that these spaces are additionally norm-equivalent, thus extending known results for n=1 and the polydisk. As an application, we generalize work by Madigan on the disk by investigating boundedness of composition operators between p- and q-Lipschitz spaces of the ball.

A norm one element $x$ of a Banach space is a Daugavet-point (respectively, a $Δ$-point) if every slice of the unit ball (respectively, every slice of the unit ball containing $x$) contains an element, which is almost at distance 2 from $x$. We characterize Daugavet- and $Δ$-points in Lipschitz-free spaces. Furthermore, we construct a Lipschitz-free space with the Radon--Nikodým property and a Daugavet-point; this is the first known example of such a Banach space.
We prove that all extreme points of the unit ball of a Lipschitz-free space over a compact metric space have finite support. Combined with previous results, this completely characterizes extreme points and implies that all of them are also extreme points in the bidual ball. For the proof, we develop some properties of an integral representation of functionals on Lipschitz spaces originally due to K. de Leeuw.
A norm one element $x$ of a Banach space is a Daugavet-point (respectively,~a $Δ$-point) if every slice of the unit ball (respectively,~every slice of the unit ball containing $x$) contains an element that is almost at distance 2 from $x$. We prove the equivalence of Daugavet- and $Δ$-points in spaces of Lipschitz functions over proper metric spaces and provide two characterizations for them. Furthermore, we show that in some spaces of Lipschitz functions, there exist $Δ$-points that are not Daugavet-points. Lastly, we prove that every space of Lipschitz functions over an infinite metric space…
Let $B_E$ be the open unit ball of a complex finite or infinite dimensional Hilbert space. If $f$ belongs to the space $\mathcal{B}(B_E)$ of Bloch functions on $B_E$, we prove that the dilation map given by $x \mapsto (1-\|x\|^2) \mathcal{R} f(x)$ for $x \in B_E$, where $\mathcal{R} f$ denotes the radial derivative of $f$, is Lipschitz continuous with respect to the pseudohyperbolic distance $ρ_E$ in $B_E$, which extends to the finite and infinite dimensional setting the result given for the classical Bloch space $\mathcal{B}$. In order to provide this result, we will need to prove that $ρ_E(z…
For pointed compact metric spaces $(X,d)$, we address the biduality problem as to when the space of Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ is isometrically isomorphic to the bidual of the space of little Lipschitz functions $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$, and show that this is the case whenever the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{lip}_0(X,d)$ is dense in the closed unit ball of $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d)$ with respect to the topology of pointwise convergence. Then we apply our density criterion to prove in an alternate way the real version of a classical result which asserts that $\mathrm{Lip}_0(X,d^α)$ is i…
We show that, given a Banach space $X$, the Lipschitz-free space over $X$, denoted by $\mathcal{F}(X)$, is isomorphic to $(\sum_{n=1}^\infty \mathcal{F}(X))_{\ell_1}$. Some applications are presented, including a non-linear version of Pelczyśki's decomposition method for Lipschitz-free spaces and the identification up to isomorphism between $\mathcal{F}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and the Lipschitz-free space over any compact metric space which is locally bi-Lipschitz embeddable into $\mathbb{R}^n$ and which contains a subset that is Lipschitz equivalent to the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also show tha…
We give some characterizations of Lipschitz type spaces of slice regular functions in the unit ball of the skew field of quaternions with prescribed modulus of continuity.
We prove that Alexandrov spaces $X$ of nonnegative curvature have Markov type 2 in the sense of Ball. As a corollary, any Lipschitz continuous map from a subset of $X$ into a 2-uniformly convex Banach space is extended as a Lipschitz continuous map on the entire space $X$.
We show that the class of Lipschitz-free spaces over closed subsets of any complete metric space $M$ is closed under arbitrary intersections, improving upon the previously known finite-diameter case. This allows us to formulate a general and natural definition of supports for elements in a Lipschitz-free space $\mathcal F(M)$. We then use this concept to study the extremal structure of $\mathcal F(M)$. We prove in particular that $(δ(x) - δ(y))/d(x,y)$ is an exposed point of the unit ball of $\mathcal F(M)$ whenever the metric segment $[x,y]$ is trivial, and that any extreme point which can be…
The goal of this paper is to study geometric and extremal properties of the convex body $B_{\mathcal F(M)}$, which is the unit ball of the Lipschitz-free Banach space associated with a finite metric space $M$. We investigate $\ell_1$ and $\ell_\infty$-sums, in particular we characterize the metric spaces such that $B_{\mathcal F(M)}$ is a Hanner polytope. We also characterize the finite metric spaces whose Lipschitz-free spaces are isometric. We discuss the extreme properties of the volume product $\mathcal{P}(M)=|B_{\mathcal F(M)}|\cdot|B_{\mathcal F(M)}^\circ|$, when the number of elements o…
In this note we prove that a molecule $d(x,y)^{-1}(δ(x)-δ(y))$ is an exposed point of the unit ball of a Lispchitz free space $\mathcal F(M)$ if and only if the metric segment $[x,y]=\{z \in M \; : \; d(x,y)=d(z,x)+d(z,y) \}$ is reduced to $\{x,y\}$. This is based on a recent result due to Aliaga and Pernecká which states that the class of Lipschitz free spaces over closed subsets of M is closed under arbitrary intersections when M has finite diameter.

We study the Daugavet property in the space of Lipschitz functions $\operatorname{Lip}_0(M)$ for a complete metric space $M$. Namely we show that $\operatorname{Lip}_0(M)$ has the Daugavet property if and only if $M$ is a length space. This condition also characterises the Daugavet property in the Lipschitz free space $\mathcal{F}(M)$. Moreover, when $M$ is compact, we show that either $\mathcal{F}(M)$ has the Daugavet property or its unit ball has a strongly exposed point. If $M$ is an infinite compact subset of a strictly convex Banach space then the Daugavet property of $\operatorname{Lip}_…
We analyse the relationship between different extremal notions in Lipschitz free spaces (strongly exposed, exposed, preserved extreme and extreme points). We prove in particular that every preserved extreme point of the unit ball is also a denting point. We also show in some particular cases that every extreme point is a molecule, and that a molecule is extreme whenever the two points, say $x$ and $y$, which define it satisfy that the metric segment $[x, y]$ only contains $x$ and $y$. The most notable among them is the case when the free space admits an isometric predual with some additional p…
We prove that for every $n\in \mathbb{N}$ there exists a metric space $(X,d_X)$, an $n$-point subset $S\subseteq X$, a Banach space $(Z,\|\cdot\|_Z)$ and a $1$-Lipschitz function $f:S\to Z$ such that the Lipschitz constant of every function $F:X\to Z$ that extends $f$ is at least a constant multiple of $\sqrt{\log n}$. This improves a bound of Johnson and Lindenstrauss. We also obtain the following quantitative counterpart to a classical extension theorem of Minty. For every $α\in (1/2,1]$ and $n\in \mathbb{N}$ there exists a metric space $(X,d_X)$, an $n$-point subset $S\subseteq X$ and a fun…
We study the density of the set $\operatorname{SNA}(M,Y)$ of those Lipschitz maps from a (complete pointed) metric space $M$ to a Banach space $Y$ which strongly attain their norm (i.e.\ the supremum defining the Lipschitz norm is actually a maximum). We present new and somehow counterintuitive examples, and we give some applications. First, we show that $\operatorname{SNA}(\mathbb T,Y)$ is not dense in ${\mathrm{Lip}}_0(\mathbb T,Y)$ for any Banach space $Y$, where $\mathbb T$ denotes the unit circle in the Euclidean plane. This provides the first example of a Gromov concave metric space (i.e…
For a complete metric space $M$, we prove that the finitely supported extreme points of the unit ball of the Lipschitz-free space $\mathcal{F}(M)$ are precisely the elementary molecules $(δ(p)-δ(q))/d(p,q)$ defined by pairs of points $p,q$ in $M$ such that the triangle inequality $d(p,q)<d(p,r)+d(q,r)$ is strict for any $r\in M$ different from $p$ and $q$. To this end, we show that the class of Lipschitz-free spaces over closed subsets of $M$ is closed under arbitrary intersections when $M$ has finite diameter, and that this allows a natural definition of the support of elements of $\mathcal{F…
We find general conditions under which Lipschitz-free spaces over metric spaces are isomorphic to their infinite direct $\ell_1$-sum and exhibit several applications. As examples of such applications we have that Lipschitz-free spaces over balls and spheres of the same finite dimensions are isomorphic, that the Lipschitz-free space over $\mathbb{Z}^d$ is isomorphic to its $\ell_1$-sum, or that the Lipschitz-free space over any snowflake of a doubling metric space is isomorphic to $\ell_1$. Moreover, following new ideas from [E. Bruè, S. Di Marino and F. Stra, Linear Lipschitz and $C^1$ extensi…
We show that, for a separable and complete metric space $M$, the Lipschitz-free space $\mathcal F(M)$ embeds linearly and almost-isometrically into $\ell_1$ if and only if $M$ is a subset of an $\mathbb R$-tree with length measure 0. Moreover, it embeds isometrically if and only if the length measure of the closure of the set of branching points of $M$ (taken in any minimal $\mathbb R$-tree that contains $M$) is negligible. We also prove that, for any subset $M$ of an $\mathbb R$-tree, every extreme point of the unit ball of $\mathcal F(M)$ is an element of the form $(δ(x)-δ(y))/d(x,y)$ for $x…
A metric space $X$ has {\em Markov type} 2, if for any reversible finite-state Markov chain $\{Z_t\}$ (with $Z_0$ chosen according to the stationary distribution) and any map $f$ from the state space to $X$, the distance $D_t$ from $f(Z_0)$ to $f(Z_t)$ satisfies $\E(D_t^2) \le K^2 t \E(D_1^2)$ for some $K=K(X)<\infty$. This notion is due to K. Ball (1992), who showed its importance for the Lipschitz extension problem. However until now, only Hilbert space (and its bi-Lipschitz equivalents) were known to have Markov type 2. We show that every Banach space with modulus of smoothness of power typ…

We prove that the equation d-bar u = f can be solved on a ball B(R) of radius R in the Banach space l^1 if f is a closed Lipschitz continuous (0,1) form on B(R). We also present examples of closed (0,1) forms f of various regularities on the spaces l^p that are not exact. In particular, in the first result above, it is not enough to assume that f is merely continuous, rather than Lipschitz continuous.
We find conditions for a smooth nonlinear map $f:U\rightarrow V$ between open subsets of Hilbert or Banach spaces to be locally convex in the sense that for some $c$ and each positive $\varepsilon<c$ the image $% f(B_\varepsilon(x))$ of each $\varepsilon$-ball $B_\varepsilon(x)\subset U$ is convex. We give a lower bound on $c$ via the second order Lipschitz constant $\mathrm{Lip}_2(f)$, the Lipschitz-open constant $\mathrm{Lip}_o(f)$ of $f$, and the 2-convexity number $\mathrm{conv}_2(X)$ of the Banach space $% X$.
A remarkable theorem of R. C. James is the following: suppose that $X$ is a Banach space and $C \subseteq X$ is a norm bounded, closed and convex set such that every linear functional $x^* \in X^*$ attains its supremum on $C$; then $C$ is a weakly compact set. Actually, this result is significantly stronger than this statement; indeed, the proof can be used to obtain other surprising results. For example, suppose that $X$ is a separable Banach space and $S$ is a norm separable subset of the unit ball of $X^*$ such that for each $x \in X$ there exists $x^* \in S$ such that $x^*(x) = \|x\|$ then…
Existence and uniqueness of complex geodesics joining two points of a convex bounded domain in a Banach space $X$ are considered. Existence is proved for the unit ball of $X$ under the assumption that $X$ is 1-complemented in its double dual. Another existence result for taut domains is also proved. Uniqueness is proved for strictly convex bounded domains in spaces with the analytic Radon-Nikodym property. If the unit ball of $X$ has a modulus of complex uniform convexity with power type decay at 0, then all complex geodesics in the unit ball satisfy a Lipschitz condition. The results are appl…
A strong mode of a probability measure on a normed space $X$ can be defined as a point $u$ such that the mass of the ball centred at $u$ uniformly dominates the mass of all other balls in the small-radius limit. Helin and Burger weakened this definition by considering only pairwise comparisons with balls whose centres differ by vectors in a dense, proper linear subspace $E$ of $X$, and posed the question of when these two types of modes coincide. We show that, in a more general setting of metrisable vector spaces equipped with measures that are finite on bounded sets, the density of $E$ and a …
We establish an equivalency of the Corona problem (1962) and Gleason problem (1964) in the theory of several complex variables. As an application, we give an affirmative solution of the Corona problem for certain bounded pseudoconvex domains or polydomains including balls and polydiscs. Indeed, we extend our recent work on Gleason problem based on the functional analytic approach, as well as extend recent work of Clos. We also use this equivalency or else other (functional analytic) methods to affirmatively solve both problems for various Banach spaces of bounded holomorphic functions (includi…
