Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes and linear complementary pair (LCP) of codes over finite fields have been intensively studied recently due to their applications in cryptography, in the context of side-channel and fault injection attacks. The security parameter for an LCP of codes $(C,D)$ is defined as the minimum of the minimum distances $d(C)$ and $d(D^\bot)$. It has been recently shown that if $C$ and $D$ are both 2-sided group codes over a finite field, then $C$ and $D^\bot$ are permutation equivalent. Hence the security parameter for an LCP of 2-sided group codes $(C,D)$ is simply $d(C)$. We extend this result to 2-sided group codes over finite chain rings.
A pair $(C, D)$ of group codes over group algebra $R[G]$ is called a linear complementary pair (LCP) if $C \oplus D =R[G]$, where $R$ is a finite principal ideal ring, and $G$ is a finite group. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a pair $(C, D)$ of group codes over group algebra $R[G]$ to be LCP. Then we prove that if $C$ and $D$ are both group codes over $R[G]$, then $C$ and $D^{\perp}$ are permutation equivalent.
In this paper, we provide two methods of constructing quantum codes from linear codes over finite chain rings. The first one is derived from the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction applied to self-dual codes over finite chain rings. The second construction is derived from the CSS construction applied to Gray images of the linear codes over finite chain ring $\mathbb{F}_{p^{2m}}+u\mathbb{F}_{p^{2m}}$. The good parameters of quantum codes from cyclic codes over finite chain rings are obtained.
The rings $Z_{4}+νZ_{4}$ have been classified into chain rings and non-chain rings on the basis of the values of $ν^{2} \in Z_{4}+νZ_{4}.$ In this paper, the structure of cyclic codes of arbitrary length over the rings $Z_{4}+νZ_{4}$ for those values of $ν^{2}$ for which these are non-chain rings has been established. A unique form of generators of these codes has also been obtained. Further, rank and cardinality of these codes have been established by finding minimal spanning sets for these codes.
Many kinds of codes which possess two cycle structures over two special finite commutative chain rings, such as ${\Bbb Z}_2{\Bbb Z}_4$-additive cyclic codes and quasi-cyclic codes of fractional index etc., were proved asymptotically good. In this paper we extend the study in two directions: we consider any two finite commutative chain rings with a surjective homomorphism from one to the other, and consider double constacyclic structures. We construct an extensive kind of double constacyclic codes over two finite commutative chain rings. And, developing a probabilistic method suitable for quasi…
In this paper, we develop the theory of convolutional codes over finite commutative chain rings. In particular, we focus on maximum distance profile (MDP) convolutional codes and we provide a characterization of these codes, generalizing the one known for fields. Moreover, we relate (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over a finite chain ring with (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over its residue field. Finally, we provide a construction of (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over finite chain rings generalizing the notion of (reverse) superregular matrices.
This paper present the construction cyclic isodual codes over finite fields and finite chain rings. These codes are monomially equivalent to their dual. Conditions are given for the existence of cyclic isodual codes. In addition, the concept of duadic codes over finite fields is extended to finite chain rings. Several constructions of isodual cyclic codes and self-dual codes are given.
We determine the asymptotic proportion of free modules over finite chain rings with good distance properties and treat the asymptotics in the code length n and the residue field size q separately. We then specialize and apply our technique to rank metric codes and to Hamming metric codes.
We consider codes defined over an affine algebra $\mathcal A=R[X_1,\dots,X_r]/\left\langle t_1(X_1),\dots,t_r(X_r)\right\rangle$, where $t_i(X_i)$ is a monic univariate polynomial over a finite commutative chain ring $R$. Namely, we study the $\mathcal A-$submodules of $\mathcal A^l$ ($l\in \mathbb{N}$). These codes generalize both the codes over finite quotients of polynomial rings and the multivariable codes over finite chain rings. {Some codes over Frobenius local rings that are not chain rings are also of this type}. A canonical generator matrix for these codes is introduced with the help …
In this work, a unique set of generators for a cyclic code over a finite chain ring has been established. The minimal spanning set and rank of the code have also been determined. Further, sufficient as well as necessary conditions for a cyclic code to be an MDS code and for a cyclic code to be an MHDR code have been obtained. Some examples of optimal cyclic codes have also been presented.
Let $f(u)$ and $g(v)$ be two polynomials of degree $k$ and $\ell$ respectively, not both linear, which split into distinct linear factors over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. Let $\mathcal{R}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[u,v]/\langle f(u),g(v),\\uv-vu\rangle$ be a finite commutative non-chain ring. In this paper, we study $ψ$-skew cyclic and $θ_t$-skew constacyclic codes over the ring $\mathcal{R}$ where $ψ$ and $θ_t$ are two automorphisms defined on $\mathcal{R}$.
In this paper we give the generalization of lifted codes over any finite chain ring. This has been done by using the construction of finite chain rings from $p$-adic fields. Further we propose a lattice construction from linear codes over finite chain rings using lifted codes.
Given $\texttt{S}|\texttt{R}$ a finite Galois extension of finite chain rings and $\mathcal{B}$ an $\texttt{S}$-linear code we define two Galois operators, the closure operator and the interior operator. We proof that a linear code is Galois invariant if and only if the row standard form of its generator matrix has all entries in the fixed ring by the Galois group and show a Galois correspondence in the class of $\texttt{S}$-linear codes. As applications some improvements of upper and lower bounds for the rank of the restriction and trace code are given and some applications to $\texttt{S}$-li…
Let $f(u)$ be a polynomial of degree $m, m \geq 2,$ which splits into distinct linear factors over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. Let $\mathcal{R}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[u]/\langle f(u)\rangle$ be a finite non-chain ring. In an earlier paper, we studied duadic and triadic codes over $\mathcal{R}$ and their Gray images. Here, we study duadic negacyclic codes of Type I and Type II over the ring $\mathcal{R}$, their extensions and their Gray images. As a consequence some self-dual, isodual, self-orthogonal and complementary dual(LCD) codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ are constructed. Some examples are also giv…
Additive cyclic codes over Galois rings were investigated in previous works. In this paper, we investigate the same problem but over a more general ring family, finite commutative chain rings. When we focus on non-Galois finite commutative chain rings, we observe two different kinds of additivity. One of them is a natural generalization of the previous studies, whereas the other one has some unusual properties especially while constructing dual codes. We interpret the reasons of such properties and illustrate our results giving concrete examples.
Let $f(u)$ and $g(v)$ be any two polynomials of degree $k$ and $\ell$ respectively ($k$ and $\ell$ are not both $1$), which split into distinct linear factors over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. Let $\mathcal{R}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[u,v]/\langle f(u),g(v),uv-vu\rangle$ be a finite commutative non-chain ring. In this paper, we study polyadic codes and their extensions over the ring $\mathcal{R}$. We give examples of some polyadic codes which are optimal with respect to Griesmer type bound for rings. A Gray map is defined from $\mathcal{R}^n \rightarrow \mathbb{F}^{k\ell n}_q$ which preserves duality. The Gray ima…
Let $R$ be a commutative local finite ring. In this paper, we construct the complete set of pairwise orthogonal primitive idempotents of $R[X]/<g>$ where $g$ is a regular polynomial in $R[X]$. We use this set to decompose the ring $R[X]/<g>$ and to give the structure of constacyclic codes over finite chain rings. This allows us to describe generators of the dual code $\mathcal{C}^\bot$ of a constacyclic code $\mathcal{C}$ and to characterize non-trivial self-dual constacyclic codes over finite chain rings.
The aim of this paper is to determine the algebraic structure of multidimensional cyclic codes over a finite chain ring $\mathfrak{R}$. An algorithm to find the generator polynomials of $n$ dimensional ($n$D) cyclic codes of length $m_{1}m_{2}\dots m_{n}$ over $\mathfrak{R}$ has been developed using the generator polynomials of cyclic codes over $\mathfrak{R}$. Additionally, the generators of $n$D cyclic codes with length $m_{1}m_{2}\dots m_{n}$ over $\mathfrak{R}$ have been obtained as separable polynomials for the case $q\equiv 1(mod~ m_{j}), j\geq 2$, where $q=p^{r}$ is the cardinality of r…
In this paper, we define Abelian and consta-Abelian polyadic codes over rings defined as affine algebras over chain rings. For that aim, we use the classical construction via splittings and multipliers of the underlying Abelian group. We also derive some results on the structure of the associated polyadic codes and the number of codes under these conditions.
Galois images of polycyclic codes over a finite chain ring $S$ and their annihilator dual are investigated. The case when a polycyclic codes is Galois-disjoint over the ring $S,$ is characterized and, the trace codes and restrictions of free polycyclic codes over $S$ are also determined givind an analogue of Delsarte theorem among trace map, any S -linear code and its annihilator dual.
Quasi-polycyclic (QP for short) codes over a finite chain ring $R$ are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes, and these codes can be viewed as an $R[x]$-submodule of $\mathcal{R}_m^{\ell}$, where $\mathcal{R}_m:= R[x]/\langle f\rangle$, and $f$ is a monic polynomial of degree $m$ over $R$. If $f$ factors uniquely into monic and coprime basic irreducibles, then their algebraic structure allow us to characterize the generator polynomials and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QP codes as $R$-modules. In addition, we also determine the parity check polynomials for these codes by using th…
In this work, we determine new linear equations for the weight distribution of linear codes over finite chain rings. The identities are determined by counting the number of some special submatrices of the parity-check matrix of the code. Thanks to these relations we are able to compute the full weight distribution of codes with small Singleton defects, such as MDS, MDR and AMDR codes.
Let $q$ be a prime power and let $\mathcal{R}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[u_1,u_2, \cdots, u_k]/\langle f_i(u_i),u_iu_j-u_ju_i\rangle$ be a finite non-chain ring, where $f_i(u_i), 1\leq i \leq k$ are polynomials, not all linear, which split into distinct linear factors over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. We characterize constacyclic codes over the ring $\mathcal{R}$ and study quantum codes from these. As an application, some new and better quantum codes, as compared to the best known codes, are obtained. We also prove that the choice of the polynomials $f_i(u_i),$ $1 \leq i \leq k$ is irrelevant while constructing quan…
In this paper, we clarify some aspects on LCD codes in the literature. We first prove that a non-free LCD code does not exist over finite commutative Frobenius local rings. We then obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of LCD code over finite commutative Frobenius rings. We later show that a free constacyclic code over finite chain ring is LCD if and only if it is reversible, and also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a constacyclic code to be reversible over finite chain rings. We illustrate the minimum Lee-distance of LCD codes over some finite commutat…
Let $m,e$ be positive integers, $p$ a prime number, $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}$ be a finite field of $p^m$ elements and $R=\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^e\rangle$ which is a finite chain ring. For any $ω\in R^\times$ and positive integers $k, n$ satisfying ${\rm gcd}(p,n)=1$, we prove that any $(1+ωu)$-constacyclic code of length $p^kn$ over $R$ is monomially equivalent to a matrix-product code of a nested sequence of $p^k$ cyclic codes with length $n$ over $R$ and a $p^k\times p^k$ matrix $A_{p^k}$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$. Using the matrix-product structures, we give an iterative construction of every $(1…
In this paper, we explore some properties of Galois hulls of cyclic serial codes over a chain ring and we devise an algorithm for computing all the possible parameters of the Euclidean hulls of that codes. We also establish the average $p^r$-dimension of the Euclidean hull, where $\mathbb{F}_{p^r}$ is the residue field of $R$, and we provide some results of its relative growth.
Let $\texttt{R}$ be a commutative finite chain ring of invariants $(q,s)$ and $Γ(\texttt{R})$ the Teichmüller's set of $\texttt{R}.$ In this paper, the trace representation cyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear codes of length $\ell,$ is presented, when $\texttt{gcd}(\ell, q) = 1.$ We will show that the contractions of some cyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear codes of length $u\ell$ are $γ$-constacyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear codes of length $\ell,$ where $γ\inΓ(\texttt{R})$ and the multiplicative order of is $u.$
Codes over Galois rings have been studied extensively during the last three decades. Negacyclic codes over $GR(2^a,m)$ of length $2^s$ have been characterized: the ring $\mathcal{R}_2(a,m,-1)= \frac{GR(2^a,m)[x]}{\langle x^{2^s}+1\rangle}$ is a chain ring. Furthermore, these results have been generalized to $λ$-constacyclic codes for any unit $λ$ of the form $4z-1$, $z\in GR(2^a, m)$. In this paper, we study more general cases and investigate all cases where $\mathcal{R}_p(a,m,γ)= \frac{GR(p^a,m)[x]}{\langle x^{p^s}-γ\rangle}$ is a chain ring. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions…
In this paper, we present a novel design strategy of DNA codes with length $3n$ over the non-chain ring $R=\mathbb{Z}_4+u\mathbb{Z}_4+u^2\mathbb{Z}_4$ with $64$ elements and $u^3=1$, where $n$ denotes the length of a code over $R$. We first study and analyze a distance conserving map defined over the ring $R$ into the length-$3$ DNA sequences. Then, we derive some conditions on the generator matrix of a linear code over $R$, which leads to a DNA code with reversible, reversible-complement, homopolymer $2$-run-length, and $\frac{w}{3n}$-GC-content constraints for integer $w$ ($0\leq w\leq 3n$).…
In this paper, we solve the reversibility problem for DNA codes over the non-chain ring $R_{k,s}=\mathbb{F}_{4^{2k}}[u_1,...,u_{s}]/< u_1^2-u_1,..., u_s^2-u_s>$. We define an automorphism $θ$ over $R_{k,s}$ which help us both find the idempotent decomposition of $R_{k,s}$ and solve the reversibility problem via skew cyclic codes. Moreover, we introduce a generalized Gray map that preserves DNA reversibility.
A structure theorem of the group codes which are relative projective for the subgroup $\lbrace 1 \rbrace$ of $G$ is given. With this, we show that all such relative projective group codes in a fixed group algebra $RG$ are in bijection to the chains of projective group codes of length $\ell$ in the group algebra $\mathbb{F}G$, where $\mathbb{F}$ is the residue field of $R$. We use a given chain to construct the dual code in $RG$ and also derive the minimum Hamming weight as well as a lower bound of the minimum euclidean weight.
Let $\texttt{R}$ be a commutative finite chain ring of invariants $(q,s).$ In this paper, the trace representation of any free cyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear code of length $\ell,$ is presented, via the $q$-cyclotomic cosets modulo $\ell,$ when $\texttt{gcd}(\ell, q) = 1.$ The lattice $\left(\texttt{Cy}(\texttt{R},\ell), +, \cap\right)$ of cyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear codes of length $\ell,$ is investigated. A lower bound on the Hamming distance of cyclic $\texttt{R}$-linear codes of length $\ell,$ is established. When $q$ is even, a family of MDS and self-orthogonal $\texttt{R}$-linear cyclic codes…
Let $R$ be a finite commutative chain ring, $D_{2n}$ be the dihedral group of size $2n$ and $R[D_{2n}]$ be the dihedral group ring. In this paper, we completely characterize left ideals of $R[D_{2n}]$ (called left $D_{2n}$-codes) when ${\rm gcd}(char(R),n)=1$. In this way, we explore the structure of some skew-cyclic codes of length 2 over $R$ and also over $R\times S$, where $S$ is an isomorphic copy of $R$. As a particular result, we give the structure of cyclic codes of length 2 over $R$. In the case where $R=\F_{p^m}$ is a Galois field, we give a classification for left $D_{2N}$-codes over…
In this paper we focus on modules over a finite chain ring $\mathcal{R}$ of size $q^s$. We compute the density of free modules of $\mathcal{R}^n$, where we separately treat the asymptotics in $n,q$ and $s$. In particular, we focus on two cases: one where we fix the length of the module and one where we fix the rank of the module. In both cases, the density results can be bounded by the Andrews-Gordon identities. We also study the asymptotic behaviour of modules generated by random matrices over $\mathcal{R}$. Since linear codes over $\mathcal{R}$ are submodules of $\mathcal{R}^n$ we get direct…
We study codes with a single check element derived from group rings, namely, checkable codes. The notion of a code-checkable group ring is introduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a group ring to be code-checkable are given in the case where the group is a finite abelian group and the ring is a finite field. This characterization leads to many good examples, among which two checkable codes and two shortened codes have minimum distance better than the lower bound given in Grassl's online table. Furthermore, when a group ring is code-checkable, it is shown that every code in such a gr…
