Tunable symmetry breaking plays a crucial role for the manipulation of topological phases of quantum matter. Here, through combined high-pressure magneto-transport measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, we demonstrate a pressure-induced topological phase transition in nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS. Symmetry analysis and first-principles calculations suggest that this pressure-induced topological phase transition may be attributed to weak lattice distortions by non-hydrostatic compression, which breaks some crystal symmetries, such as the mirror and inversion symmetries. This finding provides some experimental evidence for crystal symmetry protection for the topological semimetal state, which is at the heart of topological relativistic fermion physics.
ZrSiS is the most intensively studied topological nodal-line semimetal candidate, which is proposed to host multiple nodal lines in its bulk electronic structure. However, previous angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments with vacuum ultraviolet lights mainly probed the surface states. Here using bulk-sensitive soft X-ray ARPES, we acquire the bulk electronic states of ZrSiS without any interference from surface states. Our results clearly show two groups of three-dimensional bulk nodal lines located on high-symmetry planes and along high-symmetry lines in the bulk Brillou…
Topological semimetals represent a new class of quantum materials hosting Dirac/Weyl fermions. The essential properties of topological fermions can be revealed by quantum oscillations. Here we present the first systematic de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillation studies on the recently discovered topological Dirac nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS. From the angular dependence of dHvA oscillations, we have revealed the anisotropic Dirac bands in ZrSiS and found surprisingly strong Zeeman splitting at low magnetic fields. The Landé g-factor estimated from the separation of Zeeman splitting peaks is as lar…
We demonstrate a unique approach to test the signature of the nodal-line physics by thermodynamic methods. By measuring magnetic susceptibility in ZrSiS we found an intriguing temperature-driven crossover from dia- to paramagnetic behavior. We show that the anomalous behavior represents a real thermodynamic signature of the underlying nodal-line physics through the means o chemical pressure (isovalent substitution of Zr for Hf), quantum oscillations, and theoretical model ng. The anomalous part of the susceptibility is orbital by nature, and it arises due to the vicinity of the Fermi level to …
The anisotropic optical response of the layered, nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS at ambient and high pressure is investigated by frequency-dependent reflectivity measurements for the polarization along and perpendicular to the layers. The highly anisotropic optical conductivity is in very good agreement with results from density functional theory calculations and confirms the anisotropic character of ZrSiS. Whereas the in-plane optical conductivity shows only modest pressure-induced changes, we found strong effects on the out-of-plane optical conductivity spectrum of ZrSiS, with the appearance of t…
Topological materials provide an exclusive platform to study the dynamics of relativistic particles in table-top experiments and offer the possibility of wide-scale technological applications. ZrSiS is a newly discovered topological nodal-line semimetal and has drawn enormous interests. In this report, we have investigated the lattice dynamics and electron-phonon interaction in single crystalline ZrSiS using Raman spectroscopy. Polarization and angle resolved measurements have been performed and the results have been analyzed using crystal symmetries and theoretically calculated atomic vibrati…
We study electron-phonon interaction and related transport properties of nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS using first-principles calculations. We find that ZrSiS is characterized by a weak electron-phonon coupling on the order of 0.1, which is almost energy independent. The main contribution to the electron-phonon coupling originates from long-wavelength optical phonons, causing no significant renormalization of the electron spectral function. At the charge neutrality point, we find that electrons and holes provide a comparable contribution to the scattering rate. The phonon-limited resistivity calc…
ZrSiS is one of the strong candidates for realistic nodal-line semimetal. We theoretically investigate the dynamical conductivity in ZrSiS by using a multi-orbital theoretical model based on the first-principles band calculation. We find that the dynamical conductivity in the clean limit is actually not frequency independent unlike the ideal Dirac model, while nearly flat dependence is achieved by introducing the energy broadening possibly induced by the disorder. The results can be applied to other compounds with the similar crystal structure, such as ZrSiSe, ZrSiTe, and HfSiS.
Pezzini et al. reported an unconventional mass enhancement in topological nodal line semimetal ZrSiS (Nat. Phys. 14, 178 (2018), whose origin remains puzzling. In this material, strong short-range interactions might induce excitonic particle-hole pairs. Here we study the renormalization of fermion velocities and find that the mass enhancement in ZrSiS can be well understood if we suppose that ZrSiS is close to the quantum critical point between semimetal and excitonic insulator. Near this quantum critical point, the fermion velocities are considerably reduced by excitonic quantum fluctuation, …
Out-of-equilibrium effects provide an elegant pathway to probing and understanding the underlying physics of topological materials. Creating exotic states of matter using ultrafast optical pulses in particular has shown promise towards controlling electronic band structure properties. Of recent interest is band renormalization in Dirac and Weyl semimetals as it leads to direct physical observables through the enhancement of the effective mass, or, in the shift of resonant energies. Here we provide experimental and theoretical signatures of photo-induced renormalization of the electronic band s…
The Dirac nodal-line semimetals (DNLS) are new promising materials for technological applications due to its exotic properties, which originate from band structures dispersion and nodal-line behavior. We report a study on effects of several possibilities of strains in ZrSiSe DNLS on band structure dispersion and nodal-line behavior through the means of the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We found that the Dirac nodal-line of ZrSiSe is robust to all strain with reasonable magnitude. Although, there are significant changes in gap, amplitude, and energy relative to Fermi energy. We …
The discovery of topological semimetal phase in three-dimensional (3D) systems is a new breakthrough in topological material research. Dirac nodal-line semimetal is one of the three topological semimetal phases discovered so far; it is characterized by linear band crossing along a line/loop, contrasted with the linear band crossing at discrete momentum points in 3D Dirac and Weyl semimetals. The study of nodal-line semimetal is still at initial stage; only three material systems have been verified to host nodal line fermions until now, including PbTaSe2, PtSn 4and ZrSiS. In this letter, we rep…
We use a functional renormalization group (fRG) approach to investigate potential interaction-induced instabilities in a two-dimensional model for the Dirac nodal-line materials ZrSiS and ZrSiSe employing model parameters derived from {\it ab initio} calculations. Our results confirm that the excitonic instability recently found in random-phase approximation for ZrSiS is indeed the leading instability. In the simplest modeling, spin- and charge-excitonic states are degenerate. Beyond this, we show that the fRG analysis produces an energy scale for the onset of the instability in good agreement…
As emerging topological nodal-line semimetals, the family of ZrSiX (X = O, S, Se, Te) has attracted broad interests in condensed matter physics due to their future applications in spintonics. Here, we apply a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to study the structural symmetry and electronic topology of ZrSiSe. The glide mirror symmetry is verified by quantifying the lattice structure of the ZrSe bilayer based on bias selective topographies. The quasiparticle interference analysis is used to identify the band structure of ZrSiSe. The nodal line is experimentally determined at $\sim$ 250 meV ab…
The ultrafast optical response of two nodal-line semimetals, ZrSiS and ZrSiSe, was studied in the near-infrared using transient reflectivity. The two materials exhibit similar responses, characterized by two features, well resolved in time and energy. The first transient feature decays after a few hundred femtoseconds, while the second lasts for nanoseconds. Using Drude-Lorentz fits of the materials' equilibrium reflectance, we show that the fast response is well-represented by a decrease of the Drude plasma frequency, and the second feature by an increase of the Drude scattering rate. This di…
Electron correlation effects are studied in ZrSiS using a combination of first-principles and model approaches. We show that basic electronic properties of ZrSiS can be described within a two-dimensional lattice model of two nested square lattices. High degree of electron-hole symmetry characteristic for ZrSiS is one of the key features of this model. Having determined model parameters from first-principles calculations, we then explicitly take electron-electron interactions into account and show that at moderately low temperatures ZrSiS exhibits excitonic instability, leading to the formation…
Despite being the most studied nodal line semimetal, a clear understanding of the transient state relaxation dynamics and the underlying mechanism in ZrSiS is lacking. Using time and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we study the ultrafast relaxation dynamics in ZrSiS and reveal a unique relaxation in the bulk nodal-line state which is well captured by a simple model based on optical and acoustic phonon cooling. We find linear decay processes for both optical and acoustic phonon relaxations with acoustic cooling suppressed at high temperatures. Our results reveal different decay mecha…
Optical properties of nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS are studied using first-principles calculations. Frequency-independent optical conductivity is a fingerprint of the infrared optical response in ZrSiS. We find that this characteristic feature is robust with respect to uniaxial compressive strain of up to 10 GPa, yet with the flat region being narrowed with increasing strain. Upon uniaxial tensile stress of 2 GPa, the Fermi surface undergoes a Lifshitz transition accompanied by a weakening of the interband screening, which reduces the spectral weight of infrared excitations. We also show that th…
The topological nodal-line semimetals (NLSMs) possess a loop of Dirac nodes in the k space with linear dispersion, different from the point nodes in Dirac/Weyl semimetals. While the quantum transport associated with the topologically nontrivial Dirac fermions has been investigated extensively, features uniquely associated with the extended nodal lines remain to be demonstrated. Here, we investigate the quantum oscillations (QOs) in the nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS, with the electron transport along the c axis, and magnetic field rotating in the ab plane. The extremal orbits identified through th…
ZrSiS, an intriguing candidate of topological nodal line semimetals, was discovered to have exotic surface floating two-dimensional (2D) electrons [Phys. Rev. X 7, 041073 (2017)], which are likely to interact with surface phonons. Here, we reveal a prominent Kohn anomaly in a surface phonon branch by mapping out the surface phonon dispersions of ZrSiS using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy. Theoretical analysis via an electron-phonon coupling (EPC) model attributes the strong renormalization of the surface phonon branch to the interactions with the surface floating 2D electron…
The nodal-line semimetals have attracted immense interest due to the unique electronic structures such as the linear dispersion and the vanishing density of states as the Fermi energy approaching the nodes. Here, we report temperature-dependent transport and scanning tunneling microscope (spectroscopy) (STM[S]) measurements on nodal-line semimetal ZrSiSe.Our experimental results and theoretical analyses consistently demonstrate that the temperature induces Lifshitz transitions at 80 and 106 K in ZrSiSe, which results in the transport anomalies at the same temperatures. More strikingly, we obse…
In nodal-line semimetals linearly dispersing states form Dirac loops in the reciprocal space, with high degree of electron-hole symmetry and almost-vanishing density of states near the Fermi level. The result is reduced electronic screening and enhanced correlations between Dirac quasiparticles. Here we investigate the electronic structure of ZrSiSe, by combining time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy with ab initio density functional theory (DFT) complemented by an extended Hubbard model (DFT +U +V). We show that electronic correlations are reduced on an ultrashort timescale by o…
In this work, we present a model of the surface states of nonsymmorphic semimetals. These are derived from surface mass terms that lift the high degeneracy imposed in the band structure by the nonsymmorphic bulk symmetries. Reflecting the reduced symmetry at the surface, the bulk bands are strongly modified. This leads to the creation of two-dimensional floating bands, which are distinct from Shockley states, quantum well states or topologically protected surface states. We focus on the layered semimetal ZrSiS to clarify the origin of its surface states. We demonstrate an excellent agreement b…
3D Dirac semimetals are an emerging class of materials that possess topological electronic states with a Dirac dispersion in their bulk. In nodal-line Dirac semimetals, the conductance and valence bands connect along a closed path in momentum space, leading to the prediction of pseudospin vortex rings and pseudospin skyrmions. Here, we use Fourier transform scanning tunneling spectroscopy (FT-STS) at 4.5 K to resolve quasiparticle interference (QPI) patterns at single defect centers on the surface of the line nodal semimetal zirconium silicon sulfide (ZrSiS). Our QPI measurements show pseudosp…
We instigate the angle-dependent magnetoresistance (AMR) of the layered nodal-line Dirac semimetal ZrSiS for the in-plane and out-of-plane current directions. This material has recently revealed an intriguing butterfly-shaped in-plane AMR that is not well understood. Our measurements of the polar out-of-plane AMR show a surprisingly different response with a pronounced cusp-like feature. The maximum of the cusp-like anisotropy is reached when the magnetic field is oriented in the $a$-$b$ plane. Moreover, the AMR for the azimuthal out-of-plane current direction exhibits a very strong four-fold …
We theoretically investigate the phase of the de Haas - van Alphen oscillations in topological line-node semimetals. In these semimetals the chemical potential of charge carriers can essentially depend on the magnetic field, and this dependence changes the phase of the oscillations as compared to the phase in a three-dimensional metal with a band-contact line. Our results elucidate recent experimental data on the Berry phase for certain electron orbits in ZrSiS, ZrSiTe, and ZrSiSe.
We present a far-infrared magneto-optical study of the gapped nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS in magnetic fields $B$ up to 7 T. The observed field-dependent features, which represent intra- (cyclotron resonance) and interband transitions, develop as $\sqrt{B}$ in increasing field and can be consistently explained within a simple 2D Dirac band model with a gap of 26 meV and an averaged Fermi velocity of $3\times10^{5}$ m/s. This indicates a rather narrow distribution of these parameters along the in-plane portions of the nodal line in the Brillouin zone. A field-induced feature with an energy positi…
Dirac semimetals (DSMs) are three dimensional analogue to graphene with symmety enforced bulk Dirac nodes. Among various DSMs, ZrSiS has been attracting more interests recently, due to its three dimensional Dirac nodal line protected by the nonsymmorphic symmetry. It actually belongs to a large family of isostructural compounds with unique quantum phenomenon. Here we present a comprehensive study of the first principle calculation, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements, and scanning tunneling microscope (STM) experiments on ZrGeTe, a member of the ZrSiS family with str…
The discovery of a topological nodal-line (TNL) semimetal phase in ZrSiS has invigorated the study of other members of this family. Here, we present a comparative electronic structure study of ZrSiX (where X = S, Se, Te) using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and first-principles calculations. Our ARPES studies show that the overall electronic structure of ZrSiX materials comprises of the diamond-shaped Fermi pocket, the nearly elliptical-shaped Fermi pocket, and a small electron pocket encircling the zone center ($Γ$) point, the M point, and the X point of the Brillouin zone,…
Dirac nodal line semimetals represent a new state of quantum matters in which the electronic bands touch to form a closed loop with linear dispersion. Here, we report a combined study on ZrSiS by density functional theory calculation, scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and magneto-transport measurements. Our STM measurements reveal the spectroscopic signatures of a diamond-shaped Dirac bulk band and a surface band on two types of cleaved surfaces as well as a spin polarized surface band at ${\barΓ}$ at E~0.6eV on S-surface, consistent with our band calculation. Furthermore, we find the surfac…
Polarization-dependent reflectivity measurements were carried out over a broad frequency range on single-crystalline ZrGeSe and ZrGeS compounds, which are closely related to the prototype nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS. These measurements revealed the strongly anisotropic character of both ZrGeSe and ZrGeS, with a reduced plasma frequency for the out-of-plane direction {\bf E}$\| c$ as compared to the in-plane direction {\bf E}$\| ab$. For {\bf E}$\| ab$ the optical conductivity spectrum consists of two Drude terms followed by a shoulder or plateau-like behavior and a distinct U shape at higher en…
ZrSiS is a nodal-line semimetal, whose electronic band structure contains a diamond-shaped line of Dirac nodes. We carried out a comparative study on the optical conductivity of ZrSiS and related compounds ZrSiSe, ZrSiTe, ZrGeS, and ZrGeTe by reflectivity measurements over a broad frequency range combined with density functional theory calculations. The optical conductivity exhibits a distinct U shape, ending at a sharp peak at around 10000~cm$^{-1}$ for all studied compounds, except for ZrSiTe. The U shape of the optical conductivity is due to transitions between the linearly dispersing bands…
The ZrSiS-type materials have attracted intensive attention due to the existence of various topological fermions. The magnetic version of the ZrSiS-type materials, LnSbTe (Ln = lanthanides), is an ideal candidate to explore novel exotic states due to the interaction between magnetism and topology. In this work, we report the experimental study on structural, magnetic, thermodynamic, and electronic properties for SmSbxTe2-x with various Sb content. The revealed evolutions of these properties with tuning the compositions would provide useful insights for the fundamental topological physics and t…
Topological semimetals, including Dirac semimetals, Weyl semimetals, and nodal line semimetals, receive enormous research interest due to their intrinsic topological nature and fascinating properties. In present work, with the help of density functional theory (DFT), we find that nodal line semimetals and Dirac semimetals can coexist in the low energy electron of two dimensional (2D) monolayer B2C. Intriguingly, besides type-I and type-II Dirac fermions, a kind of open nodal line appears around the Fermi level. The low energy electronic nature of B2C sheet can be described by a tight-binding (…
Based on first-principles calculations and effective model analysis, we propose that the WC-type HfC, in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), can host a three-dimensional nodal chain semimetal state. Distinguished from the previous material IrF4 [T. Bzdusek et al., Nature 538, 75 (2016)], the nodal chain here is protected by mirror reflection symmetries of a simple space group, while in IrF4 the nonsymmorphic space group with a glide plane is a necessity. Moreover, in the presence of SOC, the nodal chain in WC type HfC evolves into Weyl points. In the Brillouin zone, a total of 30 pairs o…
The chain-type nodal loops in the reciprocal space can generate exotic nodal chain fermions. Here, we report that Li2XY (X = Ca, Ba; Y = Si, Ge) compounds are ideal inner nodal chain semimetals. Their band structures are composed of two connecting nodal loops with either hybrid or type-I band dispersion. The signatures of the nodal chain, such as the nontrivial surface states, are quite pronounced in these Li2XY compounds since there is only a single inner nodal chain without other extraneous bands near the Fermi level. These compounds are existing materials and ambient-stable, which is availa…
The conventional k.p method fails to capture the full and essential physics of many symmetry enriched multiple nodal line structures in the three dimensional Brillouin zone. Here we present a new and systematical method to construct the effective lattice model of mirror symmetry protected three-dimensional multiple nodal line semimetals, when the spin-orbit interaction is ignored. For systems with a given pair of perpendicular nodal rings, we obtain all the effective lattice models and eleven inequivalent nodal line Fermi surfaces together with their related constraints. By means of first-prin…
In topological semimetals the Dirac points can form zero-dimensional and one-dimensional manifolds, as predicted for Dirac/Weyl semimetals and topological nodal line semimetals, respectively. Here, based on first-principles calculations, we predict a topological nodal line semimetal phase in the two-dimensional compounds $X_2Y$ ($X$=Ca, Sr, and Ba; $Y$=As, Sb, and Bi) in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) with a band inversion at the M point. The mirror symmetry as well as the electrostatic interaction, that can be engineered via strain, are responsible for the nontrivial phase. In addit…
The nodal line semimetals have attracted much attention due to their unique topological electronic structure and exotic physical properties. A genuine nodal line semimetal is qualified by the presence of Dirac nodes along a line in the momentum space that are protected against the spin-orbit coupling. In addition, it requires that the Dirac points lie close to the Fermi level allowing to dictate the macroscopic physical properties. Although the material realization of nodal line semimetals have been theoretically predicted in numerous compounds, only a few of them have been experimentally veri…
Drumhead surface states that link together loops of nodal lines arise in Dirac nodal-line semimetals as a consequence of the topologically non-trivial band crossings. We used low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and Fourier-transformed scanning tunneling spectroscopy to investigate the quasiparticle interference (QPI) properties of ZrSiTe. Our results show two scattering signals across the drumhead state resolving the energy-momentum relationship through the occupied and unoccupied energy ranges it is predicted to span. Observation of this drumhead state is in contrast to previous stu…
Topological nodal semimetals are known to host a variety of fascinating electronic properties due to the topological protection of the band-touching nodes. Neutron scattering, despite its power in probing elementary excitations, has not been routinely applied to topological semimetals, mainly due to the lack of an explicit connection between the neutron response and the signature of topology. In this work, we theoretically investigate the role that neutron scattering can play to unveil the topological nodal features: a large magnetic neutron response with spectral non-analyticity can be genera…
Nodal line semimetals in two-dimensional (2-D) materials have attracted intense attention currently. From fundamental physics and spintronic applications points of view, high Curie temperature ferromagnetic (FM) ones with nodal lines robust against spin-orbit coupling (SOC) are significantly in desirable. Here, we propose that FM K2N monolayer is such Weyl nodal line semimetal. We show that K2N monolayer is dynamically stable, and has a FM ground magnetic state with the out-of-plane [001] magnetization. It shows two nodal lines in the low-energy band structures. Both nodal lines are robust aga…
Nodal-line semimetals (NLSs) represent a new type of topological semimetallic beyond Weyl and Dirac semimetals in the sense that they host closed loops or open curves of band degeneracies in the Brillouin zone. Parallel to the classification of type-I and type-II Weyl semimetals, there are two types of NLSs. The conventional NLS phase, in which the two bands forming the nodal line have opposite signs for their slopes along any direction perpendicular to the nodal line, has been proposed and realized in many compounds, whereas the exotic type-II NLS is very rare. Our first-principles calculatio…
We reveal a class of three-dimensional $d$-orbital topological materials in the antifluorite Cu$_2$S family. Derived from the unique properties of low-energy $t_{2g}$ states, their phases are solely determined by the sign of spin-orbit coupling (SOC): topological insulator for negative SOC, whereas topological semimetal for positive SOC; both having Dirac-cone surface states but with contrasting helicities. With broken inversion symmetry, the semimetal becomes one with a nodal box consisting of butterfly-shaped nodal lines that are robust against SOC. Further breaking the tetrahedral symmetry …
Topological semimetals in ferromagnetic materials have attracted enormous attention due to the potential applications in spintronics. Using the first-principles density functional theory together with an effective lattice model, here we present a new family of topological semimetals with a fully spin-polarized nodal loop in alkaline-metal monochalcogenide $MX$ ($M$ = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs; $X$ = S, Se, Te) monolayers. The half-metallic ferromagnetism can be established in $MX$ monolayers, in which one nodal loop formed by two crossing bands with the same spin components is found at the Fermi energ…
The application of pressure has been demonstrated to induce intriguing phase transitions in topological nodal-line semimetals. In this work we analyze how uniaxial pressure affects the topological character of BaSn2 , a Dirac nodal-line semimetal in the absence of spin-orbit coupling. Using calculations based on the density functional theory and a model tight-binding Hamiltonian, we find the emergence of a second nodal line for pressures higher than 4 GPa. We examine the topological features of both phases demonstrating that a nontrivial character is present in both of them. Thus, providing ev…
We report the electronic properties of single crystals of candidate nodal-line semimetal CaAgP. The transport properties of CaAgP are understood within the framework of a hole-doped nodal-line semimetal. In contrast, Pd-doped CaAgP shows a drastic increase of magnetoresistance at low magnetic fields and a strong decrease of electrical resistivity at low temperatures probably due to weak antilocalization. Hall conductivity data indicated that the Pd-doped CaAgP has not only hole carriers induced by the Pd doping, but also high-mobility electron carriers in proximity of the Dirac point. Electric…
Nodal-loop semimetals are materials in which the conduction and valence bands cross on a one-dimensional loop in the reciprocal space. For the nodal-loop character to manifest in physical properties, it is desired that the loop is close to the Fermi level, relatively flat in energy, simple in its shape, and not coexisting with other extraneous bands. Here, based on the first-principles calculations, we show that the monoclinic CuTeO$_3$ is a realistic nodal-loop semimetal that satisfies all these requirements. The material features only a single nodal loop around the Fermi level, protected by …
Topological nodal-line semimetals support protected band crossings which form nodal lines or nodal loops between the valence and conduction bands and exhibit novel transport phenomena. Here we address the topological state of the nodal-line semimetal candidate material, CaCdSn, and report magnetotransport properties of its single crystals grown by the self-flux method. Our first-principles calculations show that the electronic structure of CaCdSn harbors a single nodal loop around the $Γ$ point in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effects. The nodal crossings in CaCdSn are found to lie …
ZrSiS-type materials represent a large material family with unusual coexistence of topological nonsymmorphic Dirac fermions and nodal-line fermions. As a special group of ZrSiS-family, LnSbTe (Ln = Lanthanide rare earth) compounds provide a unique opportunity to explore new quantum phases due to the intrinsic magnetism induced by Ln. Here we report the single crystal growth and characterization of NdSbTe, a previously unexplored LnSbTe compound. NdSbTe has an antiferromagnetic ground state with field-driven metamagnetic transitions similar to other known LnSbTe, but exhibits distinct enhanced …
Dirac line node (DLN) materials are topological semimetals wherein a set of symmetry protected crossing points forms a one-dimensional (1D) line in reciprocal space. Not only are the linearly dispersing bands expected to give rise to exceptional electronic properties, but the weak screening of the Coulomb interaction near the line node may enhance electronic correlations, produce new many-body ground states, or influence the quasiparticle lifetime. We investigate the quasiparticle dynamics in the DLN material ZrSiS via spectroscopic imaging scanning tunneling microscopy (SI-STM). By studying t…
Band-crossings occurring on a mirror plane are compelled to form a nodal loop in the momentum space without spin-orbit coupling (SOC). In the presence of other equivalent mirror planes, multiple such nodal loops can combine to form interesting nodal-link structures. Here, based on first-principles calculations and an effective $\mathbf{k.p}$ model analysis, we show that CaAuAs hosts a unique starfruit-like nodal-link structure in the bulk electronic dispersion in the absence of SOC. This nodal-link is comprised of three nodal loops, which cross each other at the time-reversal-invariant momentu…
