The aim of this paper is to present a direct and simple proof of a result concerning the existence of metrics of positive Ricci curvature on the total space of fiber bundles with compact structure groups. In particular, it also generalizes and puts in a unified framework the results in Nash \cite{nash} and Poor \cite{poor}. With the intention of disseminating this result, we apply it to build new examples of manifolds with positive Ricci curvature, including bundles whose base consists of gradient shrinking Ricci solitons.
In this paper we compute the Ricci flow formulas for invariant metrics on prinicpal $G$-bundles compatible with the connection. Our primary focus is on torus bundles which we use to study a notion of Bakry-Émery Ricci flow as well as Ricci flow on circle bundles over Kähler-Einstein manifolds. The latter application gives us solutions to Ricci flows on Heisenberg groups and implicit solutions to Ricci flows on Berger 3-spheres and several other 3-dimensional manifolds.
For Fano homogeneous toric bundles, we obtain a formula of the greatest lower bound on Ricci curvature. We also give a criteria for the ampleness of a kind of line bundles over general homogeneous toric bundles.
We construct new examples of manifolds of positive Ricci curvature which, topologically, are vector bundles over compact manifolds of almost nonnegative Ricci curvature. In particular, we prove that if E is the total space of a vector bundle over a compact manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature, then the product of E and R^p admits a complete metric of positive Ricci curvature for all large p.
We prove the existence of a (unique) S^1-invariant Ricci-flat Kaehler metric on a neighbourhood of the zero section in the canonical bundle of a real-analytic Kaehler manifold X, extending the metric on X.
In this paper, we propose a method of studying the modified Kahler-Ricci flow on projective bundles and give the explicit equation from the view point of symplectic geometry.
We investigate the Kahler-Ricci flow on holomorphic fiber spaces whose generic fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. We establish uniform metric convergence to a metric on the base, away from the singular fibers, and show that the rescaled metrics on the fibers converge to Ricci-flat Kahler metrics. This strengthens previous work of Song-Tian and others. We obtain analogous results for degenerations of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics.
We construct metrics of positive Ricci curvature on some vector bundles over tori (or more generally, over nilmanifolds). This gives rise to the first examples of manifolds with positive Ricci curvature which are homotopy equivalent but not homeomorphic to manifolds of nonnegative sectional curvature.
It is proved that an homogeneous toric bundles over a flag manifold G^\C/P admits a Kaehler-Ricci solitonic metric if and only if it is Fano. In particular, an homogeneous toric bundle of this kind is Kaehler-Einstein if and only if it is Fano and its Futaki invariant vanishes identically.
We show the existence and uniqueness of a one-parameter family of smooth complete $U(1)$-invariant gradient steady Ricci solitons on the total space of any complex line bundle over a Fano Kähler-Einstein base with first Chern class proportional to that of the base. These solitons are non-Kähler except on the total space of the canonical bundle.
We study the behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on compact manifolds developing finite-time singularities, in particular, when the flow contracts exceptional divisors or collapses the Fano fibers of a holomorphic fiber bundle. We present a technique using holomorphic vector fields to prove estimates related to the work of Song-Weinkove and Fu-Zhang.
We study the behaviour of the Kähler-Ricci flow on projective bundles. We show that if the initial metric is in a suitable Kähler class, then the fibers collapse in finite time and the metrics converge subsequentially in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a metric on the base.
Considering pseudo-Riemannian $g$-natural metrics on tangent bundles, we prove that the condition of being Ricci soliton is hereditary in the sense that a Ricci soliton structure on the tangent bundle gives rise to a Ricci soliton structure on the base manifold. Restricting ourselves to some class of pseudo-Riemannian $g$-natural metrics, we show that the tangent bundle is a Ricci soliton if and only if the base manifold is flat and the potential vector field is a complete lift of a conformal vector field. We give then a classification of conformal vector fields on a flat Riemannian manifold. …
We give an explicit description of all complete $G$-invariant Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on the tangent bundle $T(G/K)\cong G^\bbC/K^\bbC$ of rank-one Riemannian symmetric spaces $G/K$ of compact type, in terms of associated vector-functions.
In this paper we modify the coordinate construction in our previous paper on the universal moduli space of pair consisting of a Riemann Surfaces and a stable holomorphic bundles on the Riemann Surface, so as to produce a new set of coordinates, which are in fact K\" ahler coordinates on this universal moduli space. Further, we give a functional determinant formula for the Ricci potential of the universal moduli space.
We generalize the circle bundle examples of ancient solutions of the Ricci flow discovered by Bakas, Kong, and Ni to a class of principal torus bundles over an arbitrary finite product of Fano Kähler-Einstein manifolds studied by Wang and Ziller in the context of Einstein geometry. As a result, continuous families of $κ$-collapsed and $κ$-noncollapsed ancient solutions of type I are obtained on circle bundles for all odd dimensions $\geq 7$. In dimension $7$ such examples moreover exist on pairs of homeomorphic but not diffeomorphic manifolds. Continuous families of $κ$-collapsed ancient solut…
We produce new non-Kähler complete steady gradient Ricci solitons whose asymptotics combine those of the Bryant solitons and the Hamilton cigar. We also obtain a family of complete Ricci-flat metrics with asymptotically locally conical asymptotics. Finally, we obtain numerical evidence for complete steady soliton structures on the vector bundles whose distance sphere bundles are respectively the twistor and ${\rm Sp}(1)$ bundles over quaternionic projective space.
We characterize Ricci almost solitons on semi-Riemannian warped products, considering the potential function to depend on the fiber or not. We show that the fiber is necessarily an Einstein manifold. As a consequence of our characterization we prove that when the potential function depends on the fiber, if the gradient of the warping function does not act by translations then the base and the warped product are also Einstein manifolds. Moreover, we show the existence of conformal vector fields on the base, the fiber and on the warped product. Assuming completeness of the warped product we prov…
In this article, we study the higher-order regularity of the Kähler-Ricci flow on compact Kähler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundle. We proved, using a parabolic analogue of Hein-Tosatti's work on collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics, that when the generic fibers of the Iitaka fibration are biholomorphic to each other, the flow converges locally smoothly away from singular fibers to a negative Kähler-Einstein metric on the base manifold. In particular, we proved that the Ricci curvature of the flow is uniformly bounded on any compact subsets away from singular fibers when the generic fib…
We give a description of all $G$-invariant Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on the canonical complexification of any compact Riemannian symmetric space $G/K$ of arbitrary rank, by using some special local $(1,0)$ vector fields on $T(G/K)$. As the simplest application, we obtain the explicit description of the set of all complete $\mathrm{SO}(3)$-invariant Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on $T{\mathbb S}^2$, which includes the well-known Eguchi-Hanson-Stenzel metrics and a new one-parameter family of metrics.
We study the behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on some Fano bundle which is a trivial bundle on one Zariski open set. We show that if the fiber is $\mathbb{P}^{m}$ blown up at one point or some weighted projective space blown up at the orbifold point and the initial metric is in a suitable kähler class, then the fibers collapse in finite time and the metrics converge sub-sequentially in Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a metric on the base.
We show that the moduli space of positive Ricci curvature metrics on all the total spaces of $S^7$-bundles over $S^8$ which are rational homology spheres has infinitely many path components. Furthermore, we carry out the diffeomorphism classification of quotients of Milnor spheres by a certain involution and show that the moduli space of metrics of non-negative sectional on them has infinitely many path components. Finally, a diffeomorphism finiteness result is obtained on quotients of Shimada spheres by the same type of involution and we show that for the types that can be expressed by an inf…
This is the first of a sequence of two papers. Here, a simple algebraic characterization of the Fano manifolds in the class of homogeneous toric bundles over a flag manifold G^C/P is provided in terms of symplectic data. The result of this paper is used in the second paper, where it is proved that an homogeneous toric bundle over a flag manifold admits a Kaehler-Ricci solitonic metric if and only if it is Fano.
We study adiabatic limits of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a Calabi-Yau manifold which is the total space of a holomorphic fibration when the volume of the fibers goes to zero. By establishing some new a priori estimates for the relevant complex Monge-Ampere equation, we show that the Ricci-flat metrics collapse (away from the singular fibers) to a metric on the base of the fibration. This metric has Ricci curvature equal to a Weil-Petersson metric that measures the variation of complex structure of the Calabi-Yau fibers. This generalizes results of Gross-Wilson for K3 surfaces to higher dimens…
We study the local curvature estimates of long-time solutions to the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow on compact Kähler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundles. Using these estimates, we prove that on such a manifold, the set of singular fibers of the semi-ample fibration on which the Riemann curvature blows up at time-infinity is independent of the choice of the initial Kähler metric. Moreover, when the regular fiber of the semi-ample fibration is not a finite quotient of a torus, we determine the exact curvature blow-up rate of the Kähler-Ricci flow near the regular fiber.
In this short note, we show that given a special Kähler-Einstein degeneration with bounded geometry, for any noncentral fiber, there exists a Kähler-Ricci flow which converges to the Kähler-Einstein metric of the central fiber. As an example, Tian's deformations \cite{Tian97} of the Mukai 3-fold admit Kähler-Ricci flows which converge to Donaldson's Kähler-Einstein metric \cite{Don08} over the Mukai 3-fold.
We produce new non-Kähler, non-Einstein, complete expanding gradient Ricci solitons with conical asymptotics and underlying manifold of the form $\R^2 \times M_2 \times \cdots \times M_r$, where $r \geq 2$ and $M_i$ are arbitrary closed Einstein spaces with positive scalar curvature. We also find numerical evidence for complete expanding solitons on the vector bundles whose sphere bundles are the twistor or ${\rm Sp}(1)$ bundles over quaternionic projective space.
In this paper we consider $M = B\times_{f}F$ warped product gradient Ricci solitons. We proved that the potential function depends only on the base and the fiber $F$ is necessarily Einstein manifold. We provide all such solutions in the case of steady gradient Ricci solitons when the base is conformal to an $n$-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space, invariant under the action of an $(n-1)$-dimensional translation group and the fiber $F$ is Ricci-flat.
The moduli space of holomorphic fiber bundles ${\cal M}_n(\Si)$ over a compact Riemann surface $\Si$ is considered. A formula for the regularised determinant and an other for the symplectic form at trivial bundle are proposed.
In this note, using Calabi's method, we construct rotationally symmetric Kahler-Ricci solitons on the total space of direct sum of fixed hermitian line bundle and its projective compactification, where the curvature of hermitian line bundle is Kahler-Einstein. These examples generalize the construction of Koiso, Cao and Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf.

We study the behaviour of the Ricci Yang-Mills flow for U(1) bundles on surfaces. We show that existence for the flow reduces to a bound on the isoperimetric constant. In the presence of such a bound, we show that on $S^2$, if the bundle is nontrivial, the flow exists for all time. For higher genus surfaces the flow always exists for all time. The volume normalized flow always exists for all time and converges to a constant scalar curvature metric with the bundle curvature $F$ parallel. Finally, in an appendix we classify all gradient solitons of this flow on surfaces.
In our previous papers [Far East Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 35 (2009), 211-223] and [International Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, 60 (2010), 15-24] we have developed the theory of Weil prolongation, Weil exponentiability and microlinearity for Frolicher spaces. In this paper we will relativize it so as to obtain the theory of fiber bundles for Frölicher spaces. It is shown that any Weil functor naturally gives rise to a fiber bundle. We will see that the category of fiber bundles over a fixed Frölicher space M and their smooth mappings over M is cartesian closed. We will see a…
We construct explicit complete Ricci-flat metrics on the total spaces of certain vector bundles over flag manifolds of the group $SU(n)$, for all Kähler classes. These metrics are natural generalizations of the metrics of Candelas-de la Ossa on the conifold, Pando Zayas-Tseytlin on the canonical bundle over $\mathbb{CP}^1\times \mathbb{CP}^1$, as well as the metrics on canonical bundles over flag manifolds, recently constructed by van Coevering.
Let $X$ be a Kähler manifold which is fibered over a complex manifold $Y$ such that every fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. Let $ω$ be a fixed Kähler form on $X$. By Yau's theorem, there exists a unique Ricci-flat Kähler form $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ for each fiber, which is cohomologous to $ω\vert_{X_y}$. This family of Ricci-flat Kähler forms $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ induces a smooth $(1,1)$-form $ρ$ on $X$ with a normalization condition. In this paper, we prove that the direct image of $ρ^{n+1}$ is positive on the base $Y$. We also discuss several byproducts, among them the local triviality of families of Calabi…
We generalize the ancient solutions of the Ricci flow on certain principal ${\rm SO}(3)$ bundles over compact quaternionic Kähler manifolds constructed by Bakas, Kong, and Ni to certain $RP^3$ fibre bundles over a product of two compact quaternionic Kähler manifolds. The ancient solutions are of Type I, $κ$-noncollapsed, and have positive Ricci curvature. Analogous solutions on even-dimensional non-Kählerian bundle spaces are also constructed.
In this paper we study collapsing sequences M_{i}-> X of Riemannian manifolds with curvature bounded or bounded away from a controlled subset. We introduce a structure over X which in an appropriate sense is dual to the N-structure of Cheeger, Fukaya and Gromov. As opposed to the N-structure, which live over the M_{i} themselves, this structure lives over X and allows for a convenient notion of global convergence as well as the appropriate background structure for doing analysis on X. This structure is new even in the case of uniformly bounded curvature and as an application we give a generali…
This work is devoted to new constructions of symplectically fat fiber bundles. The latter are constructed in two ways: using the Kirwan map and expressing the fatness condition in terms of the isotropy representation related to the G-structure over some homogeneous spaces.
For $ρ, v>0$, we say that an $n$-manifold $M$ satisfies local $(ρ,v)$-bound Ricci covering geometry, if Ricci curvature $\text{Ric}_M\ge -(n-1)$, and for all $x\in M$, $\text{vol}(B_ρ(\tilde x))\ge v>0$, where $\tilde x$ is an inverse image of $x$ on the (local) Riemannian universal cover of the $ρ$-ball at $x$. In this paper, we extend the nilpotent fiber bundle theorem of Cheeger-Fukaya-Gromov on a collapsed $n$-manifold $M$ of bounded sectional curvature to $M$ of a local $(ρ,v)$-bound Ricci covering geometry, and $M$ is close to a non-collapsed Riemannian manifold of lower dimension. The n…
Motivated by the recent work of Chu-Lee-Tam on the nefness of canonical line bundle for compact Kähler manifolds with nonpositive $k$-Ricci curvature, we consider a natural notion of {\em almost nonpositive $k$-Ricci curvature}, which is weaker than the existence of a Kähler metric with nonpositive $k$-Ricci curvature. When $k=1$, this is just the {\em almost nonpositive holomorphic sectional curvature} introduced by Zhang. We firstly give a lower bound for the existence time of the twisted Kähler-Ricci flow when there exists a Kähler metric with $k$-Ricci curvature bounded from above by a pos…
On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (Riemannain real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.
Let $P\to M$ be a principal bundle. Consider a sequence of metrics on $P$ obtained by re-scaling the fibers to points. The Gromov-Hausdorff limit of the tangent bundles over these principal bundles with their Sasaki metric is seen herein to be a locally trivial fiber bundle containing the tangent space to the base as a subbundle in a natural way. Berger 3-spheres provide an example where the limit fibers are still of dimension 3. The fibers are shown to be entirely determined by the riemannian holonomy of the chosen bi-invariant metric.
We derive modified Perelman-type monotonicity formulas for solutions to the generalized Ricci flow equation with symmetry on principal bundles, which lead to rigidity and classification results for nonsingular solutions.
Let $π:\mathbb{C}^n\times\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{C}$ be the projection map onto the second factor and let $D$ be a domain in $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$ such that for $y\inπ(D)$, every fiber $D_y:=D\capπ^{-1}(y)$ is a smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ and is diffeomorphic to each other. By Chau's theorem, the Kähler-Ricci flow has a long time solution $ω_y(t)$ on each fiber $D_y$. This family of flows induces a smooth real (1,1)-form $ω(t)$ on the total space $D$ whose restriction to the fiber $D_y$ satisfies $ω(t)\vert_{D_y}=ω_y(t)$. In this paper, we prove that $ω(t…
Assume that $X$ is a homogeneous toric bundle of the form $G^{\mathbb{C}}\times_{P,τ} F$ and is Fano, where $G$ is a compact semisimple Lie group with complexification $G^\mathbb{C}$, $P$ a parabolic subgroup of $G^\mathbb{C}$, $τ:P\rightarrow (T^m)^\mathbb{C}$ is a surjective homomorphism from $P$ to the algebraic torus $(T^m)^\mathbb{C}$, and $F$ is a compact toric manifold of complex dimension $m$. In this note we show that the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow on $X$ with a $G\times T^m$-invariant initial Kähler form in $c_1(X)$ converges, modulo the algebraic torus action, to a Kähler-Ricci so…
We study the Kähler-Ricci flow on a class of projective bundles $\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_Σ\oplus L)$ over compact Kähler-Einstein manifold $Σ^n$. Assuming the initial Kähler metric $ω_0$ admits a U(1)-invariant momentum profile, we give a criterion, characterized by the triple $(Σ, L, [ω_0])$, under which the $\mathbb{P}^1$-fiber collapses along the Kähler-Ricci flow and the projective bundle converges to $Σ$ in Gromov-Hausdorff sense. Furthermore, the Kähler-Ricci flow must have Type I singularity and is of $(\C^n \times \mathbb{P}^1)$-type. This generalizes and extends part of Song-Weinkove's…
