We clarify the macroscopic symmetry and microscopic model-parameter conditions for emergence of spin-split electronic band structure in collinear antiferromagnets without atomic spin-orbit coupling. By using the microscopic multipole descriptions, we elucidate the fundamental degree of freedom in a cluster unit of an antiferromagnet giving rise to an effective spin-orbit interaction through the anisotropic kinetic motions of electrons. We show a correspondence of the ordering patterns and resultant momentum-dependent spin splitting for 32 crystallographic point groups after demonstrating two intuitive examples of four-sublattice pyrochlore and tetragonal systems. Our study unveils potential features of collinear antiferromagnets with considerably weak spin-orbit coupling in light-element materials and 3$d$ transition metal oxides, which can be utilized for a spin-current generation by electric (thermal) current and a magneto-striction effect.
We consider two partially frustrated S = 1/2 antiferromagnetic spin systems on the triangular and pentagonal lattices. In an elementary plaquette of the two lattices, one bond has exchange interaction strength $α$ ($α\leq 1$) whereas all other bonds have exchange interaction strength unity. We show that for $α$ less than a critical value $α_{c}$, collinear Néel-type ordering is possible in the ground state. The ground state energy and the excitation spectrum have been determined using linear spin wave theory based on the Holstein-Primakoff transformation.
Using Monte Carlo simulations, we study the critical behavior of two models of frustrated XY antiferromagnets with a collinear spin ordering and with an additional twofold degeneracy of the ground state. We consider a classic antiferromagnet on a body-centered cubic lattice with an additional antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between next-nearest spins, and a ferromagnet with an extra antiferromagnetic intralayer exchange. In both models, a single first-order transition on the discrete and continuous order parameters is found. Observed critical pseudo-exponents are in agreement with expon…
We have studied the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in strained thin films of the frustrated antiferromagnet Mn$_{3}$NiN. The AHE does not follow the conventional relationships with magnetization or longitudinal conductivity and is enhanced relative to that expected from the magnetization in the antiferromagnetic state below $T_{\mathrm{N}} = 260$\,K. This enhancement is consistent with origins from the non-collinear antiferromagnetic structure, as the latter is closely related to that found in Mn$_{3}$Ir and Mn$_{3}$Pt where a large AHE is induced by the Berry curvature. As the Berry phase induce…
In a half-filled Hubbard model on a square lattice, the next-nearest-neighbor hopping causes spin frustration, and the collinear antiferromagnetic (CAF) state appears as the ground state with suitable parameters. We find that there is a metal-insulator transition in the CAF state at a critical on-site repulsion. When the repulsion is small, the CAF state is metallic, and a van Hove singularity can be close to the Fermi surface, resulting in either a kink or a discontinuity in the magnetic moment. When the on-site repulsion is large, the CAF state is a Mott insulator. A first-order transition f…
The ground state of the frustrated A-site magnetic spinel CoAl2O4 has been a controversial issue whether it is a collinear antiferromagnetic ordering or a spiral spin - liquid state, as the ratio of the two competing interactions, J2/J1 lies close to the boundary between these two ground states. Here, we address the magnetic ground state in CoAl2O4 with different amount of Co2+/Al3+ site disorder from the study of magnetoelectric effect and Monte Carlo simulations. CoAl2O4 with low site disorder exhibits linear magnetoelectric effect below the magnetic ordering temperature. With increasing dis…
Low-temperature magnetic resonance study of the quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet Cu(en)(H$_2$O)$_2$SO$_4$ (en = C$_2$H$_8$N$_2$) was performed down to 0.45~K. This compound orders antiferromagnetically at 0.9K. The analysis of the resonance data within the hydrodynamic approach allowed to identify anisotropy axes and to estimate the anisotropy parameters for the antiferromagnetic phase. Dipolar spin-spin coupling turns out to be the main contribution to the anisotropy of the antiferromagnetic phase. The splitting of the resonance modes and its non-monotonous dependency on the applied freq…
A magnetic toroidal moment is a fundamental electronic degree of freedom in the absence of both spatial inversion and time-reversal symmetries and gives rise to novel multiferroic and transport properties. We elucidate essential model parameters of the nonlinear transport in the space-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetric collinear antiferromagnetic metals accompanying a magnetic toroidal moment. By analyzing the longitudinal and transverse components of the second-order nonlinear conductivity on a two-dimensionally stacked zigzag chain based on the nonlinear Kubo formula, we show that an effective …
We perform a comparative study of the KCr3As3 and the K2Cr3As3 quasi 1D compounds, and show that the strong interplay between the lattice and the spin degrees of freedom promotes a new collinear ferrimagnetic ground state within the chains in presence of intrachain antiferromagnetic couplings. We propose that the interchain antiferromagnetic coupling in KCr3As3 plays a crucial role for the experimentally observed spin-glass phase with low critical temperature. In the same region of the parameter space, we predict K2Cr3As3 to be non-magnetic but on the verge of the magnetism, sustaining interch…
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), neutron diffaction (ND), x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements on the frustrated A-site spinel CoAl2O4 compound reveal a collinear antiferromagnetic ordering below Tn = 9.8(2) K. A high quality powder sample characterized by x-ray diffraction that indicates a relatively low Co-Al inversion parameter x = 0.057(20) in (Co1-xAlx)[Al2-xCox]O4, shows a broad maximum around 15 K in magnetic susceptibility and a sharp peak at Tn in heat capacity. The average ordered magnetic moment of Co^2+ (S = 3/2) ions at the A-site is estimated…
Frustrated magnets are one class of fascinating materials that host many intriguing phases such as spin ice, spin liquid and complex long-range magnetic orderings at low temperatures. In this work we use first-principles calculations to find that in a wide range of magnetically frustrated oxides, at zero temperature a number of non-collinear magnetic orderings are more stable than the type-I collinear ordering that is observed at finite temperatures. The emergence of non-collinear orderings in those complex oxides is due to higher-order exchange interactions that originate from second-row and …
It is well established that the anomalous Hall effect that a ferromagnet displays scales with its magnetization. Therefore, an antiferromagnet that has no net magnetization should exhibit no anomalous Hall effect. Here we show that the non-collinear triangular antiferromagnet Mn3Ge exhibits a large anomalous Hall effect comparable to that of ferromagnetic metals; the magnitude of the anomalous conductivity is 500 per ohm per cm at 2 K and 50 per ohm per cm at room temperature. The angular dependence of the anomalous Hall effect measurements confirm that the small residual in-plane magnetic mom…
We have studied the influence of antiferromagnetic ordering on the local dielectric moments of the MnO_5 and LuO_7 polyhedra by measuring neutron powder diffraction patterns of LuMnO_3 at temperatures near T_N. We show that the coupling is weak, because the magnetic exchange coupling is predominantly in the ab-plane of the MnO_5 trigonal bipyramids, and the electric dipole moments, originating in the LuO_7 polyhedra, are oriented along the hexagonal c-axis. Anomalies in the dielectric properties near T_N are thus caused by the geometric constraints between the MnO_5 and the LuO_7 polyhedra.
The origin of non-collinear magnetism under quadrupolar ordering is investigated with CeB6 taken as a target system. The mode-mixing effect among 15 multipoles is analyzed based on the Ginzburg-Landau free energy. Then the lower magnetic transition temperature and the order parameters are derived within the mean-field approximation. In the presence of pseudo-dipole-type interactions for the next-nearest neighbors, the observed pattern of non-collinear ordering is indeed stabilized for certain set of interaction parameters. The stability of the phase III' in the magnetic field is also explained…
The hidden order phase in URu$_2$Si$_2$ is highly sensitive to electronic doping. A special interest in silicon-to-phosphorus substitution is due to the fact that it may allow one, in part, to isolate the effects of tuning the chemical potential from the complexity of the correlated $f$ and $d$ electronic states. We investigate the new antiferromagnetic phase that is induced in URu$_2$Si$_{2-x}$P$_x$ at $x\gtrsim0.27$. Time-of-flight neutron diffraction of a single crystal ($x=0.28$) reveals $c$-axis collinear $\mathbf{q}_\mathrm{m}=(\frac12,\frac12,\frac12)$ magnetic structure with localized …
We demonstrate theoretically that the thermal Hall effect of magnons in collinear antiferromagnetic insulators is an indicator of magnetic and topological phase transitions in the magnon spectrum. The transversal heat current of magnons caused by a thermal gradient is calculated for an antiferromagnet on a honeycomb lattice. An applied magnetic field drives the system from the antiferromagnetic phase via a spin-flop phase into the field-polarized phase. Besides these magnetic phase transitions we find topological phase transitions within the spin-flop phase. Both types of transitions manifest …
The magnetization measurements have been performed on the doped spin gap system TlCu_{1-x}Mg_xCl_3 with x <= 0.025. The parent compound TlCuCl_3 is a three-dimensional coupled spin dimer system with the excitation gap Delta/k_B = 7.7 K. The impurity-induced antiferromagnetic ordering was clearly observed. The easy axis lies in the (0,1,0) plane. It was found that the transition temperature increases with increasing Mg^{2+} concentration x, while the spin-flop transition field is almost independent of x. The magnetization curve suggests that the impurity-induced antiferromagnetic ordering coexi…
Magnetic excitations are investigated for a hexagonal polar magnet Fe2Mo3O8 by terahertz spectroscopy. We observed magnon modes including an electric-field active magnon, electromagnon, in the collinear antiferromagnetic phase with spins parallel to the c axis. We unravel the nature of these excitations by investigating the correlation between the evolution of the mode profile and the magnetic transition from antiferromagnetic to ferrimagnetic order induced by magnetic field or Zn-doping. We propose that the observed electromagnon mode involves the collective precession of the spins with oscil…
We study the nontrivial linear magnon band crossings in the collinear antiferromagnets on the two-dimensional (2D) CaVO lattice, also realized in some iron-based superconductors such as AFe$_{1.6+x}$Se$_2$ (A = K, Rb, Cs). It is shown that the combination of space-inversion and time-reversal symmetry ($\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry) leads to doubly-degenerate eight magnon branches, which cross each other linearly along a one-dimensional loop in the 2D Brillouin zone. We show that the Dirac nodal loops (DNLs) are not present in the collinear ferromagnet on this lattice. Thus, the current 2D antiferrom…
Antiferromagnetically coupled moments on the frustrated triangular lattice typically order in a coplanar state at low temperature. Here, we demonstrate that the presence of not-very-large easy axis single ion anisotropy leads to an interesting orientationally ordered collinear state in triangular lattice antiferromagnets with moments $S \ge 3/2$. This ordered state breaks the symmetry of $π/3$ rotations about a lattice site, while leaving intact the translational symmetry of the lattice.
In the commented Letter Vogt et al. (Phys.Rev.Lett. 84 (2000) 2969) claim the existence of a spin-state transition in YBaCo2O5. We think that this claim about the change from the low spin to high spin state upon cooling in YBaCo2O5 is errorneous. Keywords: magnetism, 3d ions, low spin.
The Lieb-Mattis theorem is generalized to an antiferromagnetic spin-ladder model with four-spin cyclic exchange interaction. We prove that for J>2K, the antiferromagnetic ordering of energy levels takes place separately in two sectors, which remain symmetric and antisymmetric under the reflection with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ladder. We prove also that at the self-dual point J=2K, the Lieb-Mattis rule holds in the sectors with fixed number of rung singlets. In both cases, it agrees with the similar rule for Haldane chain with appropriate spin number.
Magnetic diffractive scattering of coherent metastable helium atomic beams from CoO(001) surfaces reveal the presence of an anomalous enhancement in the intensity of the half-order antiferromagnetic diffraction peak over the temperature range of 250-320K. Electronic cluster calculations based on Hartree-Fock states with configuration interactions, together with mean-field and Monte Carlo studies of this system suggest that this behavior is associated with low-lying surface spin excited states.
We make use of the strong spin-charge coupling in the electron-doped cuprate $\mathrm{Nd}_{2-x}\mathrm{Ce}_x\mathrm{CuO}_4$ to probe changes in its spin system via magnetotransport measurements. We present a detailed study of the out-of-plane magnetoresistance in underdoped single crystals of this compound, including the nonsuperconducting, $0.05\,\leq x\,\leq 0.115$, and superconducting, $0.12\,\leq x\,\leq 0.13$, compositions. Special focus is put on the dependence of the magnetoresistance on the field orientation in the plane of the CuO$_2$ layers. In addition to the kink at the field-induc…

Motivated by recent experiments on the frustrated quantum magnetic compound YbMgGaO4, we study an effective spin model on triangular lattice taking into account the effects of the spin-orbit coupling. We determine the classical ground-state phase diagram of this model, which includes a 120 degree Neel and two collinear antiferromagnetic phases. In the vicinity of the phase boundary between the Neel and collinear phases, we identify three intermediate non-collinear antiferromagnetic phases. In each of them the magnetic moments are ordered at multiple incommensurate wave vector Q values. We furt…
Heavy fermion compounds consisting of two or more inequivalent local moment sites per unit cell have been a promising platform of investigating the interplay between distinct Kondo screenings that is absent in the conventional systems containing only one rare-earth ion per unit cell. We report a remarkable enhancement of the antiferromagnetic (AF) ordering tendency in the staggered periodic Anderson model (PAM) with two alternating inequivalent local moments if their hybridization strengths reside in the Kondo singlet and antiferromagnetic insulator regime separately of the phase diagram of ho…
A unified molecular field theory (MFT) is presented that applies to both collinear and planar noncollinear Heisenberg antiferromagnets (AFs) on the same footing. The spins in the system are assumed to be identical and crystallographically equivalent. This formulation allows calculations of the anisotropic magnetic susceptibility chi versus temperature T below the AF ordering temperature TN to be carried out for arbitrary Heisenberg exchange interactions J{ij} between arbitrary neighbors j of a given spin i without recourse to magnetic sublattices. The Weiss temperature theta_p in the Curie-Wei…
Soft x-ray resonant scattering at the Ni L2,3 edges is used to test models of magnetic and orbital-ordering below the metal-insulator transition in NdNiO3. The large branching ratio of the L3 to L2 intensities of the (1/2,0,1/2) reflection and the observed azimuthal angle and polarization dependence originates from a non collinear magnetic structure. The absence of an orbital signal and the non collinear magnetic structure show that the nickelates are materials for which orbital ordering is absent at the metal-insulator transition.

We report inelastic neutron scattering results on the spin dynamics in the 50 % hole-doped manganites, Pr{1/2}Sr{1/2}MnO3 and Nd{1/2}Sr{1/2}MnO3. In the paramagnetic phase, these systems exhibit a ridge-type diffuse scattering, indicating a two-dimensional ferromagnetic (FM) correlation. With decreasing temperature, the systems enter the FM state, but simultaneously they develop A-type antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. The spin wave dispersion in the FM state is strongly anisotropic. These behaviors can be consistently interpreted from a viewpoint of the underlying orbital ordering.
$\mathsf{Mn_{3}Sn}$ has recently attracted considerable attention as a magnetic Weyl semimetal exhibiting concomitant transport anomalies at room temperature. The topology of the electronic bands, their relation to the magnetic ground state and their nonzero Berry curvature lie at the heart of the problem. The examination of the full magnetic Hamiltonian reveals otherwise hidden aspects of these unusual physical properties. Here, we report the full spin wave spectra of $\mathsf{Mn_{3}Sn}$ measured over a wide momentum - energy range by the inelastic neutron scattering technique. Using a linear…
The zero-temperature quantum phase diagram of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ $J_{1}$--$J_{2}$--$J_{1}^{\perp}$ model on an $AA$-stacked bilayer honeycomb lattice is investigated using the coupled cluster method (CCM). The model comprises two monolayers in each of which the spins, residing on honeycomb-lattice sites, interact via both nearest-neighbor (NN) and frustrating next-nearest-neighbor isotropic antiferromagnetic (AFM) Heisenberg exchange iteractions, with respective strengths $J_{1} > 0$ and $J_{2} \equiv κJ_{1}>0$. The two layers are coupled via a comparable Heisenberg exchange interaction be…
A theoretical description is presented for low-temperature magnetic-field induced three-dimensional (3D) ordering transitions in strongly anisotropic quantum antiferromagnets, consisting of weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chains and ladders. First, effective continuum field theories are derived for the one-dimensional subsystems. Then the Luttinger parameters, which determine the low-temperature susceptibilities of the chains and ladders, are calculated from the Bethe ansatz solution for these effective models. The 3D ordering transition line is obtained using a random phase approxim…
The magnetically ordered phase of body-centered tetragonal UAu$_2$Si$_2$ was explored through $^{29}$Si-NMR experiments. The field-swept NMR spectra show asymmetric peak splitting below magnetic phase transition temperature, $T_{\rm m}$ = 20 K. This splitting is well explained by the occurrence of a magnetic order with propagation vector of $q$ = (2/3, 0, 0) and magnetic moments pointing parallel to the tetragonal [001] axis, offering evidence for uncompensated "up-up-down"-type antiferromagnetic ordering with a spontaneous [001] magnetization component. A symmetry analysis of the hyperfine-co…
We study the Hubbard model on the AB-stacked bilayer honeycomb lattice with a repulsive onsite interaction U in second order perturbation theory and in self-consistent random phase approximation. We determine the changes in the antiferromagnetic magnetic ordering tendencies due to the real and imaginary parts of the selfenergy at the band crossing points. In particular we present an estimate for the threshold value U* below which the magnetic order is endangered by the splitting of the quadratic band touching points into four Dirac points by an interaction-induced interlayer skew hopping. For …
We report on the ultrafast dynamics of magnetic order in a single crystal of CuO at a temperature of 207 K in response to strong optical excitation using femtosecond resonant x-ray diffraction. In the experiment, a femtosecond laser pulse induces a sudden, nonequilibrium increase in magnetic disorder. After a short delay ranging from 400 fs to 2 ps, we observe changes in the relative intensity of the magnetic ordering diffraction peaks that indicate a shift from a collinear commensurate phase to a spiral incommensurate phase. These results indicate that the ultimate speed for this antiferromag…
We investigate the stability of the multipolar orderings in $f$-electron material CeCoSi based on a self-consistent mean-field calculation for the effective localized model. This material has two ordered phases in the temperature-pressure phase diagram: the antiferromagnetic phase and the nonmagnetic phase, the latter of which has been suggested to be an antiferroquadrupolar phase. Meanwhile, the origin of the antiferroquadrupolar phase has been unclear, since a quadrupole degree of freedom is present only between the ground-state level and highly separated excited-state level under a tetragon…
Symmetry analysis of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction in MnSi-type cubic crystals demonstrates that the magnetic moments are tilted periodically, producing a weak antiferromagnetic pattern, when the helix is unwound by magnetic field. The tilt angles of four Mn sublattices are determined by a component of the DM vector perpendicular to that one responsible for helical spiraling; both components have been evaluated using a simple model. It is shown that the tilting should induce pure magnetic reflections 00l, l=2n+1 in neutron or x-ray magnetic scattering, and the structure factors of…
First-principles calculations have been performed for different collinear magnetic orderings in orthorhombic manganites, such as HoMnO3, TbMnO3 and YMnO3, showing large GdFeO3-like distortions. Our results suggest that the AFM-E type ordering, experimentally observed in HoMnO3 and recently proposed from model hamiltonian studies as a potentially novel phase, is indeed the magnetic ground state. Its stability is strongly connected with octahedral distortions and points to the relevance of structural more than chemical effects. The calculated exchange constants, extracted from a Heisenberg model…
We present neutron scattering measurements on powder samples of the spinel FeSc2S4 that reveal a previously unobserved magnetic ordering transition occurring at 11.8(2)~K. Magnetic ordering occurs subsequent to a subtle cubic-to-tetragonal structural transition which distorts Fe coordinating sulfur tetrahedra lifting the orbital degeneracy. The application of 1~GPa hydrostatic pressure appears to destabilize this Néel state, reducing the transition temperature to 8.6(8)~K and redistributing magnetic spectral weight to higher energies. The relative magnitudes of ordered $\langle m \rangle^2\!=\…
We discuss ground state selection by quantum fluctuations in frustrated magnets in a strong magnetic field. We show that there exist dynamical symmetries -- one a generalisation of Henley's gauge-like symmetry for collinear spins, the other the quantum relict of non-collinear weathervane modes -- which ensure a partial survival of the classical degeneracies. We illustrate these for the case of the kagome magnet, where we find zero-point energy differences to be rather small everywhere except near the collinear `up-up-down` configurations, where there is rotational but not translational symmetr…
Interplay between Kondo effect and trends to antiferromagnetic and spin glass ordering in perfect and disordered bipartite Kondo lattices is considered. Ginzburg-Landau equation is derived from the microscopic effective action written in three mode representation (Kondo screening, antiferromagnetic correlations and spin liquid correlations). The problem of local constraint is resolved by means of Popov-Fedotov representation for localized spin operators. It is shown that the Kondo screening enhances the trend to a spin liquid crossover and suppresses antiferromagnetic ordering in perfect Kondo…
In this article we investigate the linear-chain spin-half $J_1$--$J_2$ model by using high-order coupled cluster method (CCM) calculations. We employ three model states, namely, a nearest-neighbour (n.n.) Néel model state in which neighbouring spins are antiparallel, a next-nearest-neighbour (n.n.n.) Néel model state in which next-neighbouring spins are antiparallel, and finally a type of "double spiral" model state with {\it two} pitch angles. For $J_2/J_1 \le \frac 12$, we find that the n.n. Néel model state produces the lowest energies. For $J_2/J_1 > \frac 12$, we find that the stable stat…
We study irradiated two-dimensional insulating bilayer honeycomb ferromagnets and antiferromagnets coupled antiferromagnetically with a zero net magnetization. The former is realized in the recently synthesized bilayer honeycomb chromium triiodide CrI$_{\bf 3}$. In both systems, we show that circularly-polarized electric field breaks time-reversal symmetry and induces a dynamical Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in each honeycomb layer. However, the resulting bilayer antiferromagnetic system still preserves a combination of time-reversal and space-inversion ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry. We show …
This is an analysis of the itinerant model for antiferromagnetism, in which is included both on-site and inter-site electron correlations. We also consider the band degeneration, which brings into the Hamiltonian the on-site exchange interactions. The Green function technique is used and the coherent potential approximation (CPA) decoupling for the on-site Coulomb repulsion. This decoupling combined with the modified Hartree-Fock approximation for the inter-site interactions generates the change in shape of the spin bands with growing interaction constants, which is described by the correlatio…
A recently-developed molecular field theory (MFT) has been used to fit single-crystal magnetic susceptibility chi versus temperature T data below the respective antiferromagnetic ordering temperatures TN for a variety of collinear and coplanar noncollinear Heisenberg antiferromagnets. The spins in the system are assumed to interact by Heisenberg exchange and to be identical and crystallographically equivalent. The fitting parameters for chi(T) of collinear antiferromagnets are measurable quantities: the Weiss temperature theta_p in the Curie-Weiss law, TN, chi(TN), and the spin S. For coplanar…
Cr0.68Se single crystals with two-dimensional (2D) character have been grown, and the detailed magnetization M(T), electrical transport properties (including longitudinal resistivity and Hall resistivity and thermal transport ones (including heat capacity Cp(T) and thermoelectric power (TEP) S(T)) have been measured. There are some interesting phenomena: (i) Cr0.68Se presents a non-collinear antiferromagnetic (AFM) semiconducting behavior with the Neel temperature TN = 42 K and the activated energy Eg=3.9 meV; (ii) It exhibits the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) below TN and large negative magneto…

CeIr$_3$Ge$_7$ is an antiferromagnetic metal with a remarkably low ordering temperature $T_{\rm N}$ = 0.63 K, while most Ce-based magnets order between 2 and 15 K. Thermodynamic and transport properties as a function of magnetic field or pressure do not show signatures of Kondo correlations, interaction competition, or frustration, as had been observed in a few antiferromagnets with comparably low or lower $T_{\rm N}$. The averaged Weiss temperature measured below 10 K is comparable to $T_{\rm N}$ suggesting that the RKKY exchange coupling is very weak in this material. The unusually low $T_{\…
We use neutron scattering to study the lattice and magnetic structure of the layered half-doped manganite Pr$_{0.5}$Ca$_{1.5}$MnO$_4$. On cooling from high temperature, the system first becomes charge- and orbital- ordered (CO/OO) near $T_{CO}=300$ K and then develops checkerboard-like antiferromagnetic (AF) order below $T_{N}=130$ K. At temperatures above $T_{N}$ but below $T_{CO}$ ($T_N<T<T_{CO}$), the appearance of short-range AF spin correlations suppresses the CO/OO induced orthorhombic strain, contrasting with other half-doped manganites, where AF order has no observable effect on the la…
We investigate the magnetic properties of Ru$_{2}$Mn$Z$ ($Z$ = Sn, Sb, Ge, Si) chemically ordered full Heusler compounds for zero as well as finite temperatures. Based on first principles calculations we derive the interatomic isotropic bilinear and biquadratic couplings between Mn atoms from the paramagnetic state. We find frustrated isotropic couplings for all compounds and in case of $Z$ = Si and Sb a nearest-neighbor biquadratic coupling that favors perpendicular alignment between the Mn spins. By using an extended classical Heisenberg model in combination with spin dynamics simulations we…
With use of homogeneous model for magnetic sub-lattice of compound La1-x CaxMnO3 allowing for Heisenberg superexchange and double exchange between nearest neighbors the temperature dependence of spontaneous magnetization on a separate site is investigated in molecular field approximation. The difference from the usual magnets with one type of magnetic ions is in the fact that system of equations appears with two unknowns, being the mean spin values of ions Mn3+ and Mn4+, correspondingly. Near ordering temperature this system can be solved analytically and at the same time the expression for th…
The ground state of $λ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$GaCl$_4$, which has the same structure as the organic superconductor $λ$-(BETS)$_2$GaCl$_4$, was investigated by magnetic susceptibility and $^{13}$C NMR measurements. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility revealed an antiferromagnetic (AF) correlation with $J/k_{\rm B} \simeq$ 98 K. NMR spectrum splitting and the divergence of $1/T_1$ were observed at approximately 13 K, which is associated with the AF transition. We found that the AF structure is commensurate according to discrete NMR peak splitting, suggesting that the ground state o…
We measured the electrical resistivity, AC magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat of the cubic double perovskite Ba$_2$MgReO$_6$ under pressure. The application of pressure leads to a gradual increase in the transition temperature to the canted antiferromagnetic order, while the quadrupolar order is suppressed above 5 GPa, at which a collinear antiferromagnetic state appears. The obtained unit cell volume-temperature phase diagram for the compound as well as the related compounds suggests that Ba$_2$MgReO$_6$ exists near the phase boundary between the noncollinear and the collinear antifer…
The present study reports on the structural and magnetic phase transitions in Pr-doped polycrystalline Tb0.6Pr0.4MnO3, using high-resolution neutron powder diffraction (NPD) collected at SINQ spallation source (PSI), to emphasize the suppression of the sinusoidal magnetic structure of pure TbMnO3 and the evolution to a collinear A-type antiferromagnetic ordering. The phase purity, Jahn-Teller distortion, and one-electron bandwidth for eg orbital of Mn3+ cation have been calculated for polycrystalline Tb0.6Pr0.4MnO3, in comparison to the parent materials TbMnO3 and PrMnO3, through the Rietveld …
We report the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in antiperovskite Mn$_{3}$NiN with substantial doping of Cu on the Ni site (i.e. Mn$_{3}$Ni$_{1-x}$Cu$_{x}$N), which stabilizes a noncollinear antiferromagnetic (AFM) order compatible with the AHE. Observed on both sintered polycrystalline pieces and single crystalline films, the AHE does not scale with the net magnetization, contrary to the conventional ferromagnetic case. The existence of the AHE is explained through symmetry analysis based on the $Γ_{\rm 4g}$ AFM order in Cu doped Mn$_{3}$NiN. DFT calculations of the intrinsic contribution to the AH…
