Motivated by the recent observation of ferromagnetic spin correlations in the filled skutterudite SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$ [Ding et al., Phys. Rev. B 98, 155149 (2018)], we have carried out $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements to investigate the role of magnetic fluctuations in a newly discovered isostructural superconductor SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$ with a superconducting transition temperature of $T_{\rm c}$ $\sim$ 4.8 K. Knight shift $K$ determined by the NQR spectrum under a small magnetic field ($\le$ 0.5 T) is nearly independent of temperature, consistent with the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, 1/$T_1T$, is nearly independent of temperature above $\sim$ 50 K and increases slightly with decreasing temperature below the temperature. The temperature dependence is reasonably explained by a simple model where a flat band structure with a small ledge near the Fermi energy is assumed. By comparing the present NMR data with those in SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$, we found that the values of $|K|$ and $1/T_1T$ in SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$ are smaller than those in SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$, indicating no obvious ferromagnetic spin correlations in SrOs$_4$As$_{12}$. From the temperature dependence of 1/$T_1$ in the superconducting state, an $s$-wave superconductivity is realized.
We report $^{123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements of the filled skutterudite heavy-fermion superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ under high pressures of 1.91 and 2.34 GPa. The temperature dependence of NQR frequency and the spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ indicate that the crystal-electric-field splitting $Δ_{\rm CEF}$ between the ground state $Γ_1$ singlet and the first excited state $Γ_4^{(2)}$ triplet decreases with increasing pressure. The 1/$T_1$ below $T_c$ = 1.55 K at $P$ = 1.91 GPa shows a power-law temperature variation and is proportional to $T^5$ at temperatures c…
We report $^{123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements of the filled skutterudite heavy-fermion superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ under high pressure. Ac-susceptibility measurements indicate that the superconducting transition temperature ($T_{\rm c}$) also decreases with increasing pressure. However, above $…
We report experimental results of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) at the La site and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) at the Sb site in the filled skutterudite LaOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$. We found that the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature $1/T_1T$ at the La site exhibits a different temperature dependence from that at the Sb site. Although $1/T_1T$ at the Sb site is explained by the Korringa mechanism, $1/T_1T$ at the La site exhibits a broad maximum around 50 K, showing the presence of an additional contribution at the La site. The additional low-lying excitations observe…
We report the electronic and superconducting properties in the Pr-based filled-skutterudite superconductor PrRu$_4$Sb$_{12}$ with $T_c = 1.3$ K via the measurements of nuclear-quadrupole-resonance (NQR) frequency $ν_Q$ and nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation time $T_1$ of Sb nuclei. The temperature dependence of $ν_Q$ has revealed the energy scheme of Pr$^{3+}$ crystal electric field (CEF) that is consistent with an energy separation $Δ_{CEF}\sim 70$K between the ground state and the first-excited state. In the normal state, the Korringa relation of $(1/T_1T)_{Pr}$=const. is valid, with [$(1/T_{1}…
We report on a novel phase transition at $T$ = 0.9 K in the Ce-based filled-skutterudite compound CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ via measurements of the nuclear-spin lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$ and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectrum of Sb nuclei. The temperature ($T$) dependence of $1/T_1$ behaves as if approaching closely an antiferromagnetic (AFM) quantum critical point (QCP), following the relation $1/T_{1}\propto T/(T-T_{\rm N})^{1/2}$ with $T_{\rm N} = 0.06$ K in the range of $T=1.3-25$ K. The onset of either the spin-density-wave (SDW) or charge-density-wave (CDW) order at $T_{\rm 0}…
Some of recent advances in the NMR and NQR studies of high-Tc superconductors YBa2Cu3O7-d and YBa2Cu4O8 are presented. The topics concerned are the understanding of magnetic phase diagram, impurity substitution effects and vortex core states in the mixed states.
We report on Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and NMR studies of an optimally hole-doped superconductor Ca2-xNaxCuO2Cl2 (Tc ~ 28 K for x ~ 0.2). In spite of robust oxygen composition, we observed a multiple broad NQR frequency spectrum and nonexponential Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation, being similar to those of La2-xSrxCuO4-d.
$^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements have been carried out to investigate the magnetic and electronic properties of the filled skutterudite metallic compound SrFe$_4$As$_{12}$. The temperature dependence of Knight shift $K$ determined by the NQR spectrum under a small magnetic field ($\le$ 0.5 T) shows the similar temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility $χ$ which exhibits a broad maximum at $T^\ast$ $\sim$ 50 K. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, 1/$T_1T$, increases with decreasing temperature…
We report Cd NMR and Re NQR studies on Cd2Re2O7, the first superconductor among pyrochlore oxides Tc=1 K. Re NQR spectrum at zero magnetic field below 100 K rules out any magnetic or charge order. The spin-lattice relaxation rate below Tc exhibits a pronounced coherence peak and behaves within the weak-coupling BCS theory with nearly isotropic energy gap. Cd NMR results point to moderate ferromagnetic enhancement at high temperatures followed by rapid decrease of the density of states below the structural transition temperature of 200 K.
We report on Sb nuclear-quadrupole-resonance (NQR) study in filled-skutterudite compounds (Pr_1-xLa_x)Os_4Sb_12. The Sb-NQR spectra have split into two sets, arising from different Sb_12 cages containing either Pr or La, which enables us to measure two kinds of nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time T_1^Pr and T_1^La. In the normal state, the temperature (T) dependence of 1/T^Pr_1T showed almost the same behavior as that for PrOs_4Sb_12 regardless of. In contrast, 1/T^La_1T markedly decreases with increasing La concentration. In the superconducting state for x=0.05 and 0.2, 1/T_1^Pr exponentiall…
$^{75}$As and $^{139}$La NMR and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies on Zn-substituted LaFeAsO$_{0.85}$ have been performed to investigate the Zn-impurity effects microscopically. Although superconductivity in LaFeAsO$_{0.85}$ disappears by 3% Zn substitution, we found that NMR/NQR spectra and NMR physical quantities in the normal state are hardly changed, indicating that the crystal structure and electronic states are not modified by Zn substitution. Our results suggest that the suppression of superconductivity by Zn substitution is not due to the change of the normal-state properties,…
In order to investigate the relationship between superconductivity and magnetism in bilayer-hydrate cobaltate Na_x(H_3O)_zCoO_2 \cdot yH_2O, Co nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements were performed on three different samples, which demonstrate various ground states at low temperatures. The appearance of small internal fields is observed in the NQR spectra below approximately 6 K on one of the samples that possesses the largest c-axis length and the highest NQR frequency. The other two samples exhibit superconducting transition in zero magnetic fiel…
We report $^{121/123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and $^{51}$V nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on kagome metal CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ with $T_{\rm c}=2.5$ K. Both $^{51}$V NMR spectra and $^{121/123}$Sb NQR spectra split after a charge density wave (CDW) transition, which demonstrates a commensurate CDW state. The coexistence of the high temperature phase and the CDW phase between $91$ K and $94$ K manifests that it is a first order phase transition. At low temperature, electric-field-gradient fluctuations diminish and magnetic fluctuations become dominant. Superconductivity eme…
We present $^{75}$As Nuclear Magnetic and Quadrupole Resonance results (NMR, NQR) on a new set of LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$ polycrystalline samples. Improved synthesis conditions led to more homogenized samples with better control of the fluorine content. The structural$\equiv$nematic, magnetic, and superconducting transition temperatures have been determined by NMR spin-lattice relaxation rate and AC susceptibility measurements. The so-determined phase diagram deviates from the published one especially for low F-doping concentrations. However, if the doping level is determined from the NQR spectra…
We have performed $^{139}$La,$^{31}$P-NMR studies on a filled skutterudite superconductor LaFe$_{4}$P$_{12}$ with a critical temperature $T_c=4.1$ K. In the normal state, the presence of antiferromagnetic (AFM) fluctuations at finite wave vectors is suggested from the relation between the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ and the Knight shift. In the superconducting (SC) state, the distinct coherence peak was observed just below $T_c$, and is easily suppressed by the applied field. An exponential decrease of $1/T_1$ was observed, suggestive of the isotropic superconducting gap with …
We report 139La, 57Fe and 75As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on powders of the new LaO1-xFxFeAs superconductor for x = 0 and x = 0.1 at temperatures up to 480 K, and compare our measured NQR spectra with local density approximation (LDA) calculations. For all three nuclei in the x = 0.1 material, it is found that the local Knight shift increases monotonically with an increase in temperature, and scales with the macroscopic susceptibility, suggesting a single magnetic degree of freedom. Surprisingly, the spin lattice relaxation rates for al…
Magnetization and 63Cu NMR-NQR relaxation measurements are used to study the superconducting fluctuations in YBa2Cu3O6+x (YBCO) oriented powders. In optimally doped YBCO the fluctuating negative magnetization M_{fl}(H,T) is rather well described by an anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau (GL) functional and the curves M_{fl}/sqrt{H} cross at Tc. In underdoped YBCO, instead, over a wide temperature range an anomalous diamagnetism is observed, stronger than in the optimally doped compound by about an order of magnitude. The field and temperature dependences of M_{fl} cannot be described either by an anis…
We report 73Ge-NMR and NQR results for ferromagnetic (FM) superconductor URhGe. The magnitude and direction of the internal field, H_int, and parameters of the electric field gradient at the Ge site were determined experimentally. Using powdered polycrystalline samples oriented by different methods, the field dependences of NMR shift and nuclear spin relaxation rates for H_0 // c (easy axis) and H_0 // b were obtained. From the NMR shifts for H_0 // b, we confirmed a gradual suppression of the Curie temperature and observed a phase separation near the spin reorientation. The observation of the…
We report systematic 57Fe-NMR and 75As-NMR/NQR studies on an underdoped sample (T_c=20 K), an optimally doped sample (T_c=28 K), and an overdoped sample (T_c=22 K) of oxygen-deficient iron (Fe)-based oxypnictide superconductor LaFeAsO_{1-y}$. A microscopic phase separation between superconducting domains and magnetic domains is shown to take place in the underdoped sample, indicating a local inhomogeneity in association with the density distribution of oxygen deficiencies. As a result, 1/T_1T in the normal state of the superconducting domain decreases significantly upon cooling at both the Fe …
We theoretically study NQR and NMR spectra in the presence of odd-parity multipoles originating from staggered antiferromagnetic and antiferroquadrupole orderings. For the $f$-electron metal, CeCoSi, which is a candidate hosting odd-parity multipoles, we derive an effective hyperfine field acting on Co nucleus generated from electronic origin multipole moments at Ce ion under zero and nonzero magnetic fields. We elucidate that emergent odd-parity multipoles give rise to sublattice-dependent spectral splittings in NQR and NMR through the effective hyperfine coupling in the absence of the global…
We report 75As-NQR/NMR studies on the oxygen-deficient iron(Fe)-based oxypnictide superconductors LaFeAsO_{0.6} (T_c=28 K) along with the results on LaFeAsO, LaFeAsO_{0.75}(T_c=20 K) and NdFeAsO_{0.6}(T_c=53 K). Nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 of 75As NQR at zero field on LaFeAsO_{0.6} has revealed a T^3 dependence below T_c upon cooling without the coherence peak just below T_c, evidencing the unconventional superconducting state with the line-node gap. We have found an intimate relationship between the nuclear quadrupole frequencyof 75As and T_c for four samples used in this study…
We discuss the novel superconducting characteristics and unusual normal-state properties of iron (Fe)-based pnictide superconductors REFeAsO$_{1-y}$ (RE=La,Pr,Nd) and Ba$_{0.6}$K$_{0.4}$Fe$_2$As$_2$($T_{c}=$ 38 K) by means of $^{57}$Fe-NMR and $^{75}$As-NQR/NMR. In the superconducting state of LaFeAsO$_{0.7}$ ($T_{c}=$ 28 K), the spin component of the $^{57}$Fe-Knight shift decreases to almost zero at low temperatures, which provide firm evidence of the superconducting state formed by spin-singlet Cooper pairing. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rates $(1/T_{1})$ in LaFeAsO$_{0.7}$ and Ba$_…
The quantum antiferromagnet Cu2Te2O5Br2 was investigated by NMR and NQR. The 125Te NMR investigation showed that there is a magnetic transition around 10.5K at 9T, in agreement with previous studies. From the divergence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate, we ruled out the possibility that the transition could be governed by a one-dimensional divergence of the spin-spin correlation function. The observed anisotropy of the 125Te shift was shown to be due to a spin polarization of the 5s2 "E" doublet of the [TeO3E] tetrahedra, highlighting the importance of tellurium in the exchange paths. In th…
We present the results of $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR), and resistivity measurements in KFe$_2$As$_2$ under pressure ($p$). The temperature dependence of the NMR shift, nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time ($T_1$) and resistivity show a crossover between a high-temperature incoherent, local-moment behavior and a low-temperature coherent behavior at a crossover temperature ($T^*$). $T^*$ is found to increase monotonically with pressure, consistent with increasing hybridization between localized $3d$ orbital-derived bands with the itinerant elect…
We performed $^{59}$Co nuclear magnetic and quadrupole resonance (NMR and NQR) measurements under pressure on a single-crystalline CeCoSi, which undergoes an unresolved phase transition at $T_0$. The NQR spectra clearly showed that the phase transition at $T_0$ is nonmagnetic, but any symmetry lowering at the Co site was not seen irrespective of the feature of second-order phase transition. By contrast, the NMR spectra were split by the induced magnetic field perpendicular to the external magnetic field. These results show that the phase below $T_0$ is not a simple paramagnetic state but is mo…
Co nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies were performed in the recently discovered UCoGe, in which the ferromagnetic and superconducting (SC) transitions were reported to occur at $T_{\rm Curie} \sim 3$ K and $T_S \sim 0.8$ K (N. T. Huy {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 99} (2007) 067006), in order to investigate the coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity as well as the normal-state and SC properties from a microscopic point of view. From the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ and Knight-shift measurements, we confirmed that fe…
We report 209Bi NMR and NQR measurements on a single crystal of the Kondo insulator U3Bi4Ni3. The 209Bi nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate ($T_1^{-1}$) shows activated behavior and is well-fit by a spin gap of 220 K. The 209Bi Knight shift (K) exhibits a strong temperature dependence arising from 5f electrons, in which K is negative at high temperatures and increases as the temperature is lowered. Below 50 K, K shows a broad maximum and decreases slightly upon further cooling. Our data provide insight into the evolution of the hyperfine fields in a fully gapped Kondo insulator based on 5f el…
We report a 139La NMR investigation of low-doped insulating manganite samples (LaMnO(3+y) and La(1-x)Ca(x)MnO(3+y)) as a function of temperature. A volume fraction with fast nuclear relaxations was revealed by the inhomogeneous loss of the NMR signal over a broad temperature interval. Comparison with muSR data demonstrates that the wipe out of the 139La signal is mainly due to slowly fluctuating electric field gradients. This provides strong evidence for the slow diffusion of lattice excitations, identified with Jahn-Teller small polarons.
We report $^{121,123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements in the filled-skutterudite superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ in the temperature range of 0.05-30 K. The electric field gradients (EFG), $V_{zz}$ and $V_{xx}-V_{yy}$, at the Sb site exhibit unusual temperature dependence below 30 K. To explain these features, we discuss the coupling between the Sb nuclear quadrupole moment and Pr $4f^2$-derived multipole moments. The observed $T$ dependence of EFG is well explained by the CEF quasi-quartet consisted of $Γ_1$ singlet and $Γ_4^{(2)}$ triplet states in the cubic point group $T…
We present our NMR studies of double-layer hydrated cobalt oxides NaxCoO2-yH2O (x ~ 0.35, y ~ 1.3) with various Tc = 0 - 4.8 K and magnetic transition temperatures. High-resolution $^{1}$H NMR spectrum served as an evidence for the existence of H$_{3}$O$^{+}$ oxonium ions. $^{23}$Na nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rates served to detect local field fluctuations sensitive to Tc. $^{59}$Co nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectra served to classify the various Tc samples. From the classification by $^{59}$Co NQR frequency, the double-layer hydrated compounds were found to have two superconduct…
The 31P-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and muSR (muon spin relaxation) measurements on the filled skutterudite system SmFe4P12 have been carried out. The temperature T dependence of the 31P-NMR spectra indicates the existence of the crystalline electric field effect splitting of the Sm3+$ (J = 5/2) multiplet into a ground state and an excited state of about 70 K. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 shows the typical behavior of the Kondo system, i.e., 1/T1 is nearly T independent above 30 K, and varies in proportion to T (the Korringa behavior, 1/T1 \propto T) between 7.5 K and 30 K. The T…
$^{73}$Ge and $^{59}$Co nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements have been performed on a $^{73}$Ge-enriched single-crystalline sample of the ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe in the paramagnetic state. The $^{73}$Ge NQR parameters deduced from NQR and NMR are close to those of another isostructural ferromagnetic superconductor URhGe. The Knight shifts of the Ge and Co sites are well scaled to each other when the magnetic field is parallel to the $b$ or $c$ axis. The hyperfine coupling constants of Ge are estimated to be close to those of Co. The la…
We report In-NQR and Co-NMR experiments of CeCoIn$_5$ that undergoes a superconducting transition with a record high $T_{\rm c}$ = 2.3 K to date among heavy-fermion superconductors. At zero magnetic field, an anomalous temperature ($T$) dependence of nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ of $^{115}$In is explained by the relation $1/T_1\propto T\cdotχ_Q(T)^{3/4}$ based on the anisotropic spin-fluctuations model in case of the proximity to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) quantum critical point (QCP). The novel behavior of $1/T_1\sim T^{1/4}$ over a wide $T$ range of $T_{\rm c} < T < 40$ K ari…
We report $^{105}$Pd NMR and NQR measurements on a single crystal of Ce$_3$Pd$_{20}$Si$_6$, where antiferroquadrupolar and antiferromagnetic orders develop at low temperature. From the analysis of NQR and NMR spectra, we have determined the electric field gradient (EFG) tensors and the anisotropic Knight shift ($K$) components for both inequivalent Pd sites - Pd($32f$) and Pd($48h$). The observed EFG values are in excellent agreement with our state-of-the-art DFT calculations. The principal values of the quadrupolar coupling are $(20.37 \pm 0.02)$ MHz and $(5.45 \pm 0.02)$ MHz, for the Pd($32f…
We report $^{125}$Te nuclear magnetic resonance and $^{181}$Ta nuclear quadrupole resonance studies on single-crystal Ta$_{4}$Pd$_{3}$Te$_{16}$, which has a quasi-one-dimensional structure and superconducts below $T_{\rm c}=4.3$ K. $^{181}$Ta with spin $I=7/2$ is sensitive to quadrupole interactions, while $^{125}$Te with spin $I=1/2$ can only relax by magnetic interactions. By comparing the spin-lattice relaxation rate ( $1/T_{1}$) of $^{181}$Ta and $^{125}$Te, we found that electric-field-gradient (EFG) fluctuations develop below $80$ K. The EFG fluctuations are enhanced with decreasing temp…
We have performed $^{69,71}$Ga nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and muon spin rotation/resonance on the quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet (AFM) NiGa$_2$S$_4$, in order to investigate its spin dynamics and magnetic state at low temperatures. Although there exists only one crystallographic site for Ga in NiGa$_2$S$_4$, we found two distinct Ga signals by NMR and NQR. The origin of the two Ga signals is not fully understood, but possibly due to stacking faults along the c axis which induce additional broad Ga NMR and NQR signals with different local symm…
We present high-field magnetization and $^{79}$Br nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and $^{125}$Te nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies in the weakly coupled Cu$^{2+}$ ($S=1/2$) tetrahedral system Cu$_2$Te$_2$O$_5$Br$_2$. The field-induced level crossing effects were observed by the magnetization measurements in a long-ranged magnetically ordered state which was confirmed by a strong divergence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 at T0=13.5 K. In the paramagnetic state, 1/T1 reveals an effective singlet-triplet spin gap much larger than that observed by static bulk measurements. Our …
We report Sb-NQR results which evidence a heavy-fermion (HF) behavior and an unconventional superconducting (SC) property in the filled-skutterudite compound PrOs_4Sb_12 revealing a SC transition temperature T_c=1.85 K. The temperature (T) dependence of nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation rate 1/T_1 and NQR frequency unravel a low-lying crystal-electric-field splitting below T_0~10 K, associated with Pr^3+ (4f^2)-derived ground state. The emergence of T_1T=const. behavior below T_F~4 K points to the formation of heavy-quasiparticle state. In the SC state, 1/T_1 shows neither a coherence peak nor a…
We report magnetization, specific heat, and NMR investigations on YFe2Al10 over a wide range in temperature and magnetic field and zero field (NQR) measurements. Magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by T (1/T1T) follow a weak power law (T^-0.4) temperature dependence, which is a signature of critical fluctuations of Fe moments. The value of the Sommerfeld-Wilson ratio and linear relation between 1/T1T and chi(T) suggest the existence of ferromagnetic correlations in this system. No magnetic ordering down to 50 mK in Cp(T) and the unusual temperature a…
We report the $^{121/123}$Sb-NMR/nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on the newly-discovered superconductor BaTi$_2$Sb$_2$O with a two-dimensional Ti$_2$O square-net layer formed with Ti$^{3+}$ (3$d^1$). NQR measurements revealed that the in-plane four-fold symmetry is broken at the Sb site below $T_{\rm A} \sim$ 40 K, without an internal field appearing at the Sb site. These exclude a spin-density wave (SDW)/ charge density wave (CDW) ordering with incommensurate correlations, but can be understood with the commensurate CDW ordering at $T_{\rm A}$. The spin-lattice relaxation rate…
Sb-NMR/NQR study has revealed a formation of a pseudogap at the Fermi level in the density of states in a valence fluctuating compound CeIrSb. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, 1/T_1T has a maximum around 300 K and decreases significantly as 1/T_1T ~ T^2, followed by a 1/T_1T = const. relation at low temperature. This temperature dependence of 1/T_1T is well reproduced by assuming a V-shaped energy gap with a residual density of states at the Fermi level. The size of energy gap for CeIrSb is estimated to be about 350 K, which is by one order of magnitude larger t…
Filled skutterudite compound EuFe$_4$As$_{12}$ shows the highest magnetic ordering temperature of $T_{\rm C}$ = 154 K among Eu-based skutterudite compounds, but its magnetic ground state has not been determined yet. Here, we performed $^{153}$Eu nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and $^{75}$As nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on EuFe$_4$As$_{12}$ to reveal its magnetic ground state as well as the physical properties from a microscopic point of view. From the temperature and magnetic field dependence of $^{153}$Eu NMR spectrum in the magnetically ordered state, we found that the Eu…
Phenomenological Landau analysis shows that the properties of ordered phases in some skutterudites are consistently accounted for by a scalar order parameter which preserves the cubic symmetry, even in the ordered phase. A universal value is found for the anisotropy ratio of the transition temperature in a magnetic field, homogeneous magnetization, and induced staggered magnetization. The difference in magnetic behavior between PrFe$_4$P$_{12}$ and PrRu$_4$P$_{12}$ near their phase transitions is explained within a single framework. For the low-field phase of PrFe$_4$P$_{12}$, the scalar order…
The spin-liquid candidate $κ$-(ET)$_2$Cu$_2$(CN)$_3$ [ET: bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene] does not exhibit magnetic ordering down to a very low temperature, but shows a mysterious anomaly at 6 K. The origin of the so-called 6 K anomaly is still under debate. We carried out nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on the copper sites of the insulating layers, which are sensitive to the charge dynamics unlike the conventional spin-1/2 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The main finding of this study is that the observation of a sharp peak behavior in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxat…
High-temperature superconductivity in Fe-based pnictides and chalcogenides has been one of the most significant recent discoveries in condensed matter physics and has attracted remarkable attention in the last decade. These materials are characterized by a complex fermiology and, as a result, feature a wide range of electronic properties as a function of different tuning parameters such as chemical doping, temperature and pressure. Along the path towards the comprehension of the physical mechanisms underlying this rich phenomenology, NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and NQR (nuclear quadrupole…
We have synthesized various samples of the $x=2/3$ phase of sodium cobaltate Na$_{x}$CoO$_{2}$ and performed X-ray powder diffractions spectra to compare the diffraction with the structure proposed previously from NMR/NQR experiments [H. Alloul \emph{et al.}, EPL \textbf{85}, 47006 (2009)]. Rietveld analysis of the data are found in perfect agreement with those, and confirm the concentration x=2/3 obtained in the synthesis procedure. They even give indications on the atomic displacements of Na inside the unit cell. The detailed NQR data allow us to identify the NQR transitions and electric fie…
We report on 139La and 63Ccu NMR/NQR measurements in the high-Tc superconductor La1.90Sr0.10CuO4 with Tc=26.5 K. Spin fluctuations probed by 139La spin-lattice relaxation (T1), continuously slow down on cooling through Tc. We argue that spin-freezing and superconductivity are bulk effects in this sample. Thus, both phenomena have to coexist microscopically. The distribution of 139La T1 values at low temperature reveals a wide spread of spin fluctuation frequencies in CuO2 planes. A simple estimate shows that Cu nuclei at sites where electronic fluctuations are the slowest are not observable be…
A 63Cu and 139La NMR/NQR study of superconducting (Tc=7 K) La1.94Sr0.06CuO4 single crystal is reported. Coexistence of spin-glass and superconducting phases is found below ~5 K from 139La NMR relaxation. 63Cu and 139La NMR spectra show that, upon cooling, CuO2 planes progressively separate into two magnetic phases, one of them having enhanced antiferromagnetic correlations. These results establish the AF-cluster nature of the spin-glass. We discuss how this phase can be related to the microsegregation of mobile holes and to the possible pinning of charge-stripes.
The electronic and superconducting properties associated with the topologically non-trivial bands in Weyl semimetals have recently attracted much attention. We report the microscopic properties of the type-I Weyl semimetal TaAs measured by $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic (quadrupole) resonance under zero and elevated magnetic fields over a wide temperature range up to 500 K. The magnetic susceptibility measured by the Knight shift $K$ is found to be negative at low magnetic fields and have a strong field ($B$) dependence as ln$B$ at $T$ = 1.56 K. Such nonlinear field-dependent magnetization can be …
In this Rapid Communication, a set of $^{209}$Bi-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)/nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements has been performed to investigate the physical properties of superconducting (SC) BaTi$_2$Bi$_2$O from a microscopic point of view. The NMR and NQR spectra at 5~K can be reproduced with a non-zero in-plane anisotropic parameter $η$, indicating the breaking of the in-plane four-fold symmetry at the Bi site without any magnetic order, i.e., `the electronic nematic state'. In the SC state, the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by temperature, $1/T_1T$, does …
A brief review of microscopic studies of high-Tc superconductors HgBa2CuO4+d and HgBa2CaCu2O6+d is presented. The topics concerned are the pseudo spin-gap, the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations near the quantum critical point, and the mechanism of the high Tc via NMR. The crystal structure with the flat CuO2 plane, two-dimensional electrical resistivity, Cu NQR, NMR experimental results are discussed.
We report magnetization, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies on the quasi-two-dimensional spin-gap system (CuCl)LaNb2O7, a possible candidate for the J1-J2 model on a square lattice. A sharp single NQR line is observed at the Cu and Cl sites, indicating that both Cu and Cl atoms occupy a unique site. However, the electric field gradient tensors at the Cu, Cl, and La sites do not have axial symmetry. This is incompatible with the reported crystal structure. Thus the J1-J2 model has to be modified. We propose al…

Temperature- and field- dependent $^1$H-, $^{19}$F-, and $^{79,81}$Br- NMR measurements together with zero - field $^{79,81}$Br-NQR measurements on polycrystalline samples of barlowite, Cu$_4$(OH)$_6$FBr are conducted to study the magnetism and possible structural distortions on a microscopic level. The temperature dependence of the $^{79,81}$Br- NMR spin-lattice relaxation rates 1/$T_1$ indicate a phase transition at $T_{\rm N}\simeq$15 K which is of magnetic origin, but with an unusually weak slowing down of fluctuations below $T_{\rm N}$. Moreover, 1/$T_1T$ scales linear with the bulk susce…
We have performed 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments on the filled skutterudite compound PrFe4P12 to investigate the exotic ordered phase at low temperatures and low magnetic fields. Analysis of the NMR line splitting in the ordered phase indicates that totally symmetric (Γ_1-type) staggered magnetic multipoles are induced by magnetic fields. This is incompatible with any type of quadrupole order at zero field. We conclude that the ordered phase has broken translational symmetry with the wave vector Q=(1,0,0) but the Th point symmetry at the Pr sites is not broken by the non-magn…
Julien et al. have commented on two of our publications claiming that we have made erroneous interpretations of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) data. Specifically, they believe that their model of an extended staggered moment about a Zn impurity is the only interpretation of the data [Julien et al., Phys. Rev Lett. 84, 3422 (2000)]. Not only does their claim ignore models presented by other authors, we show that the model of Julien et al. [Phys. Rev Lett. 84, 3422 (2000)] does not consistently reproduce all of the NMR data.
We report 59Co NMR studies on the magnetically oriented powder samples of Co-oxide superconductors NaxCoO2yH2O with Tc ~ 4.7 K. From two-dimensional powder pattern in the NMR spectrum, the ab-plane Knight shift in the normal state was estimated by the magnetic field dependence of second-order quadrupole shifts at various temperatures. Below 50 K, the Knight shift shows a Curie-Weiss-like temperature dependence, similarly to the bulk magnetic susceptibility chi. From the analysis of so-called K-chi plot, the spin and the orbital components of K and the positive hyperfine coupling constant were …
Williams and Kramer [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 64}, 104506 (2001)] have recently argued against the existence of staggered magnetic moments residing on several lattice sites around Zn impurities in YBCO superconductors. This claim, which is in line with an earlier publication by Williams, Tallon and Dupree [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 61}, 4319 (2000)], is however in contradiction with a large body of experimental data from different NMR groups. On the contrary, the authors argue in favor of a very localized spin and charge density on Cu sites first neighbors to Zn. We show that the conclusions of Williams and …
