备注:
A section summarizing that the parameters determining d-wave superconductivity and the transition temperature are the same as determining the normal state marginal fermi-liquid is added. A few other improvements including discussion of the "Planckina" coefficient determining the linear in T resistivity have been made. To be published as Review of Modern Physics-colloque
Recent experimental results: (i) the measurement of the $T \ln T$ specific heat in cuprates and the earlier such results in some heavy fermion compounds, (ii) the measurement of the single-particle scattering rates, (iii) the density fluctuation spectrum in cuprates and (iv) the long standing results on the linear temperature dependence of the resistivity, show that a theory of the quantum-criticality in these compounds based on the solution of the dissipative 2D - XY model gives the temperature and frequency dependence of each of them, and the magnitudes of all four with one dimensionless coupling parameter. These low frequency or temperature dependences persist to an upper cut-off which is measured to be about the same from the singularity in the specific heat or the saturation of the single-particle self-energy. The same two parameters are deduced in the analysis of results of photoemission experiments to give d-wave superconductivity and its transition temperature. The coupling parameter and the cut-off had been estimated in the microscopic theory to within a factor of 2. The simplicity of the results depends on the discovery that orthogonal topological excitations in space and in time determine the fluctuations near criticality such that the space and time metrics are free of each other. The interacting fermions then form a marginal Fermi-liquid.
We show that, contrary to previous belief, the transition to the antiferromagnetic state of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ in zero magnetic field does show up in the transverse resistivity. We attribute this to a change in transverse integrals associated to the magnetic ordering, which is evaluated considering hopping of the localized charge. The evolution of the resistivity anomaly associated to the magnetic transition under applied magnetic field is studied. It tracks the magnetic phase diagram, allowing to identify three different lines, notably the spin-flip line, associated with the reordering of the ferr…
Heavy-fermion family exhibits fascinating and often puzzling properties due to the presence of open-shell $f$ ions and the complexity of the associated charge, orbital, and spin degrees of freedom. SmB$_6 $ is a prototypical heavy-fermion compound that is electrically insulating but yet it displays quantum oscillations, which are a telltale signature of the metallic state. Adding to the enigma is the possibility that SmB$_6$ is a topological Kondo insulator. Here, by treating the spin degree of freedom on an equal footing with other degrees of freedom using the parameter-free strongly-constrai…
`Strange metals' with resistivity depending linearly on temperature $T$ down to low-$T$ have been a long-standing puzzle in condensed matter physics. Here, we consider a model of itinerant spin-$1/2$ fermions interacting via on-site Hubbard interaction and random infinite-ranged spin-spin interaction. We show that the quantum critical point associated with the melting of the spin-glass phase by charge fluctuations displays non-Fermi liquid behaviour, with local spin dynamics identical to that of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev family of models. This extends the quantum spin liquid dynamics previously es…
We address two long-standing questions regarding the hidden order in URu2Si2: Is it associated with the hybridization process, and what are the distinct roles played by the localized and itinerant electrons? Our quasiparticle scattering spectroscopy reveals a hybridization gap ubiquitous in the entire phase space spanned by P and Fe substitutions in URu2Si2, including the no-order and antiferromagnetic regions, with minimal change upon crossing the phase boundary. This indicates its opening isn't associated with the ordering, and thus localized electrons must be the major player. Towards a con…
Based on a systematic analysis of the thermal evolution of the resistivities of Fe-based chalcogenides Fe$_{1+δ}$Te$_{1-x}X_{x}$ ($X$= Se, S), it is inferred that their often observed nonmetallic resistivities are related to a presence of two resistive channels: one is a high-temperature thermally-activated process while the other is a low-temperature log-in-$T$ process. On lowering temperature, there are often two metal-to-nonmetall crossover events: one from the high-$T$ thermally-activated nonmetallic regime into a metal-like phase and the other from the log-in-$T$ regime into a second meta…
The linear-in-temperature resistivity is one of the important mysteries in the strange metal state of high-temperature cuprate superconductors. To uncover this anomalous property, the energy-momentum-dependent imaginary part of the self-energy Im ${\rm Σ}(k, ω)$ holds the key information. Here we perform systematic doping, momentum, and temperature-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements of electron-doped cuprate ${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_4$ and extract the evolution of the strange metal scattering in momentum space. At low doping levels and low temperatures, …
On the origin of non-monotonic doping dependence of the in-plane resistivity anisotropy in Ba(Fe$_{1-x}T_x$)$_2$As$_2$, $T$ = Co, Ni and Cu
测量了Ba(Fe $_{1-x}$ Ni $_x$)$_2$ As $_2$和Ba(Fe $_{1-x}$ Cu $_x$)$_2$ As $_2$的退孪晶单晶的面内电阻率各向异性。
We have examined an isovalent Rh substitution effect on the transport properties of the thermoelectric oxide Ca$_3$Co$_{4}$O$_9$ using single-crystalline form. With increasing Rh content $x$, both the electrical resistivity and the Seebeck coefficient change systematically up to $x=0.6$ for Ca$_3$Co$_{4-x}$Rh$_{x}$O$_9$ samples. In the Fermi-liquid regime where the resistivity behaves as $ρ=ρ_0+AT^2$ around 120 K, the $A$ value decreases with increasing Rh content, indicating that the correlation effect is weakened by Rh $4d$ electrons with extended orbitals. We find that, in contrast to such …

The phase diagram of the cuprate superconductors has posed a formidable scientific challenge for more than three decades. This challenge is perhaps best exemplified by the need to understand the normal-state charge transport as the system evolves from Mott insulator to Fermi-liquid metal with doping. Here we report a detailed analysis of the temperature (T) and doping (p) dependence of the planar resistivity of simple-tetragonal HgBa$_2$CuO$_{4+δ}$ (Hg1201), the single-CuO$_2$-layer cuprate with the highest optimal $T_c$. The data allow us to test a recently proposed phenomenological model for…
The description of dynamics of strongly correlated quantum matter is a challenge, particularly in physical situations where a quasiparticle description is absent. In such situations, however, the many-body Kubo formula from linear response theory, involving matrix elements of the current operator computed with many-body wavefunctions, remains valid. Working directly in the many-body Hilbert space and not making any reference to quasiparticles (or lack thereof), we address the puzzle of linear in temperature ($T$-linear) resistivity seen in non-Fermi liquid phases that occur in several strongly…
Thermopower as sensitive probe of electronic nematicity in iron pnictides
本文研究了EuFePDMATHABMM(As $_{1-x}$ P $_{x}$)$_2$退孪晶单晶的热电势和电阻率的面内各向异性。
We calculate the resistivity associated with an Ising-nematic quantum critical point in the presence of disorder and acoustic phonons in the lattice model. We use the memory-matrix transport theory, which has a crucial advantage compared to other methods of not relying on the existence of well-defined quasiparticles in the low-energy effective theory. As a result, we obtain that by including an inevitable interaction between the nematic fluctuations and the elastic degrees of freedom of the lattice (parametrized by the nemato-elastic coupling $κ_{\text{latt}}$), the resistivity $ρ(T)$ of the s…
We present the electrical resistivity data under application of pressures up to $\sim$ 26 GPa and down to 50 mK temperatures on YbFe$_2$Zn$_{20}$. We find a pressure induced magnetic phase transition with an onset at $p_c$=18.2$\pm$0.8 GPa. At ambient pressure, YbFe$_2$Zn$_{20}$ manifests a heavy fermion, nonmagnetic ground state and the Fermi liquid behavior at low temperatures. As pressure is increased, the power law exponent in resistivity, $n$, deviates significantly from Fermi liquid behavior and tends to saturate with $n$ = 1 near $p_c$. A pronounced resistivity maximum, $T_\text{max}$, …
Starting from a recently proposed comprehensive theory for the high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates, we derive a general analytic expression for the planar resistivity, in the presence of an applied external magnetic field $\textbf{H}$ and explore its consequences in the different phases of these materials. As an initial probe of our result, we show it compares very well with experimental data for the resistivity of LSCO at different values of the applied field. We also apply our result to Bi2201 and show that the magnetoresistivity in the strange metal phase of this material, exhibits the $H…
An understanding of the normal state in the high-temperature superconducting cuprates is crucial to the ultimate understanding of the long-standing problem of the origin of the superconductivity itself. This so-called strange metal state is thought to be associated with a quantum critical point (QCP) hidden beneath the superconductivity(1,2). In electron-doped cuprates in contrast to hole-doped cuprates it is possible to access the normal state at very low temperatures and low magnetic fields to study this putative QCP and to probe the T~0 K state of these materials(3,4). We report measurement…
We report a layered ternary selenide BaPt4Se6 featuring sesqui-selenide Pt2Se3 layers sandwiched by Ba atoms. The Pt2Se3 layers in this compound can be derived from the Dirac-semimetal PtSe2 phase with Se vacancies that form a honeycomb structure. This structure results in a Pt (VI) and Pt (II) mixed-valence compound with both PtSe6 octahedra and PtSe4 square net coordination configurations. Temperature dependent electrical transport measurements suggest two distinct anomalies: a resistivity crossover, mimic to the metal-insulator (M-I) transition at ~150K, and a resistivity plateau at tempera…
The strange metal behavior, usually characterized by a linear-in-temperature (T) resistivity, is a still unsolved mystery in solid-state physics. Usually it is associated with the proximity to a quantum critical point (a second order transition at temperature T = 0) focusing on the related divergent order parameter correlation length. Here, we propose a paradigmatic shift, focusing on a divergent characteristic time scale due to a divergent dissipation acting on the fluctuating critical modes, while their correlation length stays finite. To achieve a divergent dissipation, we propose a mechani…
We report temperature dependent measurements of ambient pressure specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, anisotropic resistivity and thermal expansion as well as in-plane resistivity under pressure up to 20.8 kbar on single crystals of EuAg$_4$As$_2$. Based on thermal expansion and in-plane electrical transport measurements at ambient pressure this compound has two, first order, structural transitions in 80 - 120 K temperature range. Ambient pressure specific heat, magnetization and thermal expansion measurements show a cascade of up to seven transitions between 8 and 16 K associated with the …
Electrical resistivity, magnetoresistivity, and the Hall effect have been studied in a topological semimetal WTe2 single crystal in the temperature range from 12 to 200 K under magnetic fields up to 9 T. It has been found that quadratic temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity in the absence of a magnetic field and the conductivity in a magnetic field are observed at low temperatures, which is apparently associated with contributions from various scattering mechanisms. Single-band and two-band models were used to analyze data on the Hall effect and magnetoresistivity. These result…
Superconductivity in cuprates peaks in the doping regime between a metal at high p and an insulator at low p. Understanding how the material evolves from metal to insulator is a fundamental and open question. Early studies in high magnetic fields revealed that below some critical doping an insulator-like upturn appears in the resistivity of cuprates at low temperature, but its origin has remained a puzzle. Here we propose that this 'metal-to-insulator crossover' is due to a drop in carrier density n associated with the onset of the pseudogap phase at a critical doping p*. We use high-field res…
We present a detailed study of the temperature evolution of the crystal structure, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and resistivity of single crystals of the paradigmatic valence-fluctuating compound EuIr$_2$Si$_2$. A comparison to stable-valent isostructural compounds EuCo$_2$Si$_2$ (with Eu$^{3+}$), and EuRh$_2$Si$_2$, (with Eu$^{2+}$) reveals an anomalously large thermal expansion indicative of the lattice softening associated to valence fluctuations. A marked broad peak at temperatures around 65-75 K is observed in specific heat, susceptibility and the derivative of resistivity, as t…

Bad-Metal (BM) behavior featuring linear temperature dependence of the resistivity extending to well above the Mott-Ioffe-Regel (MIR) limit is often viewed as one of the key unresolved signatures of strong correlation. Here we associate the BM behavior with the Mott quantum criticality by examining a fully frustrated Hubbard model where all long-range magnetic orders are suppressed, and the Mott problem can be rigorously solved through Dynamical Mean-Field Theory. We show that for the doped Mott insulator regime, the coexistence dome and the associated first-order Mott metal-insulator transiti…
Single crystals of monoclinic La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}$ were grown using a self-flux method and were characterized by room-temperature powder X-ray diffraction, anisotropic temperature and field dependent magnetization, temperature dependent resistivity, specific heat, and muon spin rotation. La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}$ has a Curie temperature ($T_\mathrm{C}$) of 3.8~K and clear signatures of ferromagnetism in magnetization and $μSR$ data, as well as a clear loss of spin disorder scattering in resistivity data and a sharp specific heat anomaly. The magnetism associated with La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}…
We report a combined study of transport and thermodynamic measurements on the layered pnictide material SrAg4As2. Upon cooling, a drop in electrical and Hall resistivity, a jump in heat capacity and an increase in susceptibility and magnetoresistance (MR) are observed around 110 K. These observations suggest that non-magnetic phase transitions emerge at around 110 K, that are likely associated with structural distortions. In sharp contrast with the first-principles calculations based on the crystal structure at room temperature, quantum oscillations reveal small Fermi pockets with light effect…
Some of the highest-transition-temperature superconductors across various materials classes exhibit linear-in-temperature `strange metal' or `Planckian' electrical resistivities in their normal state. It is thus believed by many that this behavior holds the key to unlock the secrets of high-temperature superconductivity. However, these materials typically display complex phase diagrams governed by various competing energy scales, making an unambiguous identification of the physics at play difficult. Here we use electrical resistivity measurements into the micro-Kelvin regime to discover superc…
