We derive general rogue wave solutions of arbitrary orders in the Boussinesq equation by the bilinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) reduction method. These rogue solutions are given as Gram determinants with $2N-2$ free irreducible real parameters, where $N$ is the order of the rogue wave. Tuning these free parameters, rogue waves of various patterns are obtained, many of which have not been seen before. Compared to rogue waves in other integrable equations, a new feature of rogue waves in the Boussinesq equation is that the rogue wave of maximum amplitude at each order is generally asymmetric in space. On the technical aspect, our contribution to the bilinear KP-reduction method for rogue waves is a new judicious choice of differential operators in the procedure, which drastically simplifies the dimension reduction calculation as well as the analytical expressions of rogue wave solutions.
This work deals with the dynamics of higher-order rogue waves in a new integrable (2+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation governing the evolution of high and steep gravity water waves. To achieve this objective, we construct rogue wave solutions by employing Bell polynomial and Hirota's bilinearization method, along with the generalized polynomial function. Through the obtained rogue wave solutions, we explore the impact of various system and solution parameters in their dynamics. Primarily, these parameters determine the characteristics of rogue waves, including the identification of their type…
In this paper, a modified symbolic computation approach is proposed. The multiple rogue wave solutions of a generalized (2+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation are obtained by using the modified symbolic computation approach. Dynamics features of these obtained multiple rogue wave solutions are displayed in 3D and contour plots. Compared with the original symbolic computation approach, our method does not need to find Hirota bilinear form of nonlinear system.
We show that universal rogue wave patterns exist in integrable systems. These rogue patterns comprise fundamental rogue waves arranged in shapes such as triangle, pentagon and heptagon, with a possible lower-order rogue wave at the center. These patterns appear when one of the internal parameters in bilinear expressions of rogue waves gets large. Analytically, these patterns are determined by the root structures of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomial hierarchy through a linear transformation. Thus, the induced rogue patterns in the space-time plane are simply the root structures of Yablonskii-V…
Rogue waves in (2+1)-dimensional three-wave resonant interactions are studied. General rogue waves arising from a constant background, from a lump-soliton background and from a dark-soliton background have been derived, and their dynamics illustrated. For rogue waves arising from a constant background, fundamental rogue waves are line-shaped, and multi-rogue waves exhibit multiple intersecting lines. Higher-order rogue waves could also be line-shaped, but they exhibit multiple parallel lines. For rogue waves arising from a lump-soliton background, they could exhibit distinctive patterns due to…
Based on the symbolic computation approach, multiple rogue wave solutions of the generalized (2+1)-dimensional Camassa-Holm-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation are studied. As an example, we present the 1-rogue wave solutions, 3-rogue wave solutions and 6-rogue wave solutions. Furthermore, some dynamics features of the obtained multiple rogue wave solutions are shown by 3D, contour and density graphics.
This article addresses the question of general rogue-wave solutions in the nonlocal parity-time-symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger equation. By generalizing the previous bilinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili reduction method, large classes of rogue waves are derived as Gram determinants with Schur polynomial elements. It is shown that these rogue waves contain previously reported ones as special cases. More importantly, they contain many new rogue wave families. It is conjectured that the rogue waves derived in this article are all rogue-wave solutions in the parity-time-symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger…
Rogue wave patterns in the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the derivative NLS equation are analytically studied. It is shown that when the free parameters in the analytical expressions of these rogue waves are large, these waves would exhibit the same patterns, comprising fundamental rogue waves forming clear geometric structures such as triangle, pentagon, heptagon and nonagon, with a possible lower-order rogue wave at its center. These rogue patterns are analytically determined by the root structures of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomial hierarchy, and their orientations are control…
Rogue wave patterns in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation are analytically studied. It is shown that when an internal parameter in the rogue waves (which controls the shape of initial weak perturbations to the uniform background) is large, these waves would exhibit clear geometric structures, which are formed by Peregrine waves in shapes such as triangle, pentagon, heptagon and nonagon, with a possible lower-order rogue wave at its center. These rogue patterns are analytically determined by the root structures of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomial hierarchy, and their orientations are controll…
The long wave-short wave model describes the interaction between the long wave and the short wave. Exact higher-order rational solution expressed by determinants is calculated via the Hirota's bilinear method and the KP hierarchy reduction. It is found that the fundamental rogue wave for the short wave can be classified into three different patterns: bright, intermediate and dark ones, whereas the rogue wave for the long wave is always bright type. The higher-order rogue waves correspond to the superposition of fundamental rogue waves. The modulation instability analysis show that the conditio…
We show that new types of rogue wave patterns exist in integrable systems, and these rogue patterns are described by root structures of Okamoto polynomial hierarchies. These rogue patterns arise when the $τ$ functions of rogue wave solutions are determinants of Schur polynomials with index jumps of three, and an internal free parameter in these rogue waves gets large. We demonstrate these new rogue patterns in the Manakov system and the three-wave resonant interaction system. For each system, we derive asymptotic predictions of its rogue patterns under a large internal parameter through Okamot…
Modulation instability, rogue wave and spectral analysis are investigated for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation with the higher-order terms. The modulation instability distribution characteristics from the sixth-order to the eighth-order nonlinear Schrodinger equations are studied. Higher-order dispersion terms are closely related to the distribution of modulation stability regime, and n-order dispersion term corresponds to $n-2$ modulation stability curves in the modulation instability band. Based on the generalized Darboux transformation method, the higher-order rational solutions are const…
We consider the exact rogue periodic wave (rogue wave on the periodic background) and periodic wave solutions for the Chen-Lee-Liu equation via the odd-th order Darboux transformation. Then, the multi-layer physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) deep learning method is applied to research the data-driven rogue periodic wave, breather wave, soliton wave and periodic wave solutions of well-known Chen-Lee-Liu equation. Especially, the data-driven rogue periodic wave is learned for the first time to solve the partial differential equation. In addition, using image simulation, the relevant dynami…
General rogue waves are derived for the generalized derivative nonlinear Schrodinger (GDNLS) equations by a bilinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) reduction method. These GDNLS equations contain the Kaup-Newell equation, the Chen-Lee-Liu equation and the Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation as special cases. In this bilinear framework, it is shown that rogue waves to all members of these equations are expressed by the same bilinear solution. Compared to previous bilinear KP reduction methods for rogue waves in other integrable equations, an important improvement in our current KP reduction procedure is a n…
Rogue waves in the nonlocal PT-symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation are studied by Darboux transformation. Three types of rogue waves are derived, and their explicit expressions in terms of Schur polynomials are presented. These rogue waves show a much wider variety than those in the local NLS equation. For instance, the polynomial degrees of their denominators can be not only $n(n+1)$, but also $n(n-1)+1$ and $n^2$, where $n$ is an arbitrary positive integer. Dynamics of these rogue waves is also examined. It is shown that these rogue waves can be bounded for all space and time, or …
In this brief report we study numerically the spontaneous emergence of rogue waves in (i) modulationally unstable plane wave at its long-time statistically stationary state and (ii) bound-state multi-soliton solutions representing the solitonic model of this state [Gelash et al, PRL 123, 234102 (2019)]. Focusing our analysis on the cohort of the largest rogue waves, we find their practically identical dynamical and statistical properties for both systems, that strongly suggests that the main mechanism of rogue wave formation for the modulational instability case is multi-soliton interaction. A…
In this paper, a variable-coefficient symbolic computation approach is proposed to solve the multiple rogue wave solutions of nonlinear equation with variable coefficients. As an application, a (2+1)-dimensional variable-coefficient Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is investigated. The multiple rogue wave solutions are obtained and their dynamics features are shown in some 3D and contour plots.
Physics of nonlinear waves on variable backgrounds and the relevant mathematical analysis continues to be the challenging aspect of the study. In this work, we consider a (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear model describing the dynamics of {water waves} and construct nonlinear wave solutions on spatio-temporally controllable backgrounds for the first time by using a simple mathematical tool auto-Bäcklund transformation. Mainly, we unravel physically interesting features to control and manipulate the dynamics of nonlinear waves through the background. Adapting an exponential function and general polyno…
With the assistance of one fold Darboux transformation formula, we derive rogue wave solutions of the complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equation on an elliptic function background. We employ an algebraic method to find the necessary squared eigenfunctions and eigenvalues. To begin we construct the elliptic function background. Then, on top of this background, we create a rogue wave. We demonstrate the outcome for three distinct elliptic modulus values. We find that when we increase the modulus value the amplitude of rogue waves on the dn-periodic background decreases whereas it increases in t…
General rogue waves in (1+1)-dimensional three-wave resonant interaction systems are derived by the bilinear method. These solutions are divided into three families, which correspond to a simple root, two simple roots and a double root of a certain quartic equation arising from the dimension reduction respectively. It is shown that while the first family of solutions associated with a simple root exist for all signs of the nonlinear coefficients in the three-wave interaction equations, the other two families of solutions associated with two simple roots and a double root can only exist in the …
We construct rogue wave solutions of a fifth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the Jacobian elliptic function background. By combining Darboux transformation and the nonlinearization of spectral problem, we generate rogue wave solution on two different periodic wave backgrounds. We analyze the obtained solutions for different values of system parameter and point out certain novel features of our results. We also compute instability growth rate of both $dn$ and $cn$ periodic background waves for the considered system through spectral stability problem. We show that instability growth rate…
Partial-rogue waves, i.e., waves that ``come from nowhere but leave with a trace", are analytically predicted and numerically confirmed in the Sasa-Satsuma equation. We show that, among a class of rational solutions in this equation that can be expressed through determinants of 3-reduced Schur polynomials, partial-rogue waves would arise if these rational solutions are of certain orders, where the associated generalized Okamoto polynomials have real but not imaginary roots, or imaginary but not real roots. We further show that, at large negative time, these partial-rogue waves approach the con…
In multi-component systems, several rogue waves can be simultaneously excited using simple initial conditions in the form of a plane wave with a small amplitude single-peak perturbation. This is in drastic contrast with the case of multi-rogue waves of a single nonlinear Schrödinger equation (or other evolution equations) that require highly specific initial conditions to be used. This possibility arises due to the higher variety of rogue waves in multi-components systems each with individual eigenvalue of the inverse scattering technique. In theory, we expand the limited class of Peregrine-ty…
A new variant of the $(2+1)$-dimensional [$(2+1)d$] Boussinesq equation was recently introduced by J. Y. Zhu, arxiv:1704.02779v2, 2017; see eq. (3). First, we derive in this paper the one-soliton solutions of both bright and dark types for the extended $(2+1)d$ Boussinesq equation by using the traveling wave method. Second, $N$-soliton, breather, and rational solutions are obtained by using the Hirota bilinear method and the long wave limit. Nonsingular rational solutions of two types were obtained analytically, namely: (i) rogue-wave solutions having the form of W-shaped lines waves and (ii) …
In this paper the coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations which describe the propagation of two optical pulses in an optical medium with coherent three-level atoms are studied by Darboux transformation. The general nth-order rogue wave solution involving two different choices of multiple roots for the spectral characteristic equation and the multiparametric nth-order semirational solution are both obtained in terms of Schur polynomials. The explicit rogue wave solutions and semirational solutions from first to second order are provided. In contrast to the known Peregrine soliton, dark and four-petaled…
Rogue waves on the periodic background are considered for the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation in the focusing case. The two periodic wave solutions are expressed by the Jacobian elliptic functions dn and cn. Both periodic waves are modulationally unstable with respect to long-wave perturbations. Exact solutions for the rogue waves on the periodic background are constructed by using the explicit expressions for the periodic eigenfunctions of the Zakharov-Shabat spectral problem and the Darboux transformations. These exact solutions labeled as rogue periodic waves generalize the classical r…
