This work deals with the dynamics of higher-order rogue waves in a new integrable (2+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation governing the evolution of high and steep gravity water waves. To achieve this objective, we construct rogue wave solutions by employing Bell polynomial and Hirota's bilinearization method, along with the generalized polynomial function. Through the obtained rogue wave solutions, we explore the impact of various system and solution parameters in their dynamics. Primarily, these parameters determine the characteristics of rogue waves, including the identification of their type, bright or dark type doubly-localized rogue wave structures and spatially localized rational solitons, and manipulation of their amplitude, depth, and width. Reported results will be encouraging to the studies on the rogue waves in higher dimensional systems as well as to experimental investigations on the controlling mechanism of rogue waves in optical systems, atomic condensates, and deep water oceanic waves.
General high-order rogue waves of the NLS-Boussinesq equation are obtained by the KP-hierarchy reduction theory. These rogue waves are expressed with the determinants, whose entries are all algebraic forms. It is found that the fundamental rogue waves can be classified three patterns: four-petals state, dark state, bright state by choosing different parameter $α$ values. As the evolution of the parameter $α$. An interesting phenomena is discovered: the rogue wave changes from four-petals state to dark state, whereafter to the bright state, which are consistent with the change of the correspond…
We derive general rogue wave solutions of arbitrary orders in the Boussinesq equation by the bilinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) reduction method. These rogue solutions are given as Gram determinants with $2N-2$ free irreducible real parameters, where $N$ is the order of the rogue wave. Tuning these free parameters, rogue waves of various patterns are obtained, many of which have not been seen before. Compared to rogue waves in other integrable equations, a new feature of rogue waves in the Boussinesq equation is that the rogue wave of maximum amplitude at each order is generally asymmetric i…
In this paper, a modified symbolic computation approach is proposed. The multiple rogue wave solutions of a generalized (2+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation are obtained by using the modified symbolic computation approach. Dynamics features of these obtained multiple rogue wave solutions are displayed in 3D and contour plots. Compared with the original symbolic computation approach, our method does not need to find Hirota bilinear form of nonlinear system.
We study rational solutions of the Boussinesq equation, which is a soliton equation solvable by the inverse scattering method. These rational solutions, which are algebraically decaying and depend on two arbitrary parameters, are expressed in terms of special polynomials that are derived through a bilinear equation, have a similar appearance to rogue-wave solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and have an interesting structure. Further rational solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili I (KPI) equation are derived in two ways, from rational solutions of the NLS equation a…
A study of general rogue waves in some integrable reverse time nonlocal nonlinear equations is presented. Specifically, the reverse time nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) and nonlocal Davey-Stewartson (DS) equations are investigated, which are nonlocal reductions from the AKNS hierarchy. By using Darboux transformation (DT) method, several types of rogue waves are constructed. Especially, a unified binary DT is found for this nonlocal DS system, thus the solution formulas for nonlocal DSI and DSII equation can be written in an uniform expression. Dynamics of these rogue waves is separately …
In this paper, general rogue wave solutions in the massive Thirring (MT) model are derived by using the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy reduction method and these rational solutions are presented explicitly in terms of determinants whose matrix elements are elementary Schur polynomials. In the reduction process, three reduction conditions including one index- and two dimension-ones are proved to be consistent by only one constraint relation on parameters of tau-functions of the KP-Toda hierarchy. It is found that the rogue wave solutions in the MT model depend on two background parameters…
We show that universal rogue wave patterns exist in integrable systems. These rogue patterns comprise fundamental rogue waves arranged in shapes such as triangle, pentagon and heptagon, with a possible lower-order rogue wave at the center. These patterns appear when one of the internal parameters in bilinear expressions of rogue waves gets large. Analytically, these patterns are determined by the root structures of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomial hierarchy through a linear transformation. Thus, the induced rogue patterns in the space-time plane are simply the root structures of Yablonskii-V…
We investigate the nonisospectral effects of a semi-discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is a direct integrable discretisation of its continuous counterpart. Bilinear form and double casoratian solution of the equation are presented. Dynamics of solutions are analyzed. Both solitons and multiple pole solutions admit space-time localized rogue wave behavior. And more interestingly, the solutions allow blow-up at finite time $t$.

The nonlinear Schrodinger equation is a classical integrable equation which contains plenty of significant properties and occurs in many physical areas. However, due to the difficulty of solving this equation, in particular in high dimensions, lots of methods are proposed to effectively obtain different kinds of solutions, such as neural networks, among others. Recently, a method where some underlying physical laws are embeded into a conventional neural network is proposed to uncover the equation's dynamical behaviors from spatiotemporal data directly. Compared with traditional neural networks…
We are concerned with conservation laws and integral relations associated with rational solutions of the Boussinesq equation, a soliton equation solvable by inverse scattering which was first introduced by Boussinesq in 1871. The rational solutions are logarithmic derivatives of a polynomial, are algebraically decaying and have a similar appearance to rogue-wave solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation. For these rational solutions the constants of motion associated with the conserved quantities are zero and they have some interesting integral relations which depend on the tota…
Delay-difference and delay-differential analogues of the KdV and Boussinesq (BSQ) equations are presented. Each of them has the N-soliton solution and reduces to an already known soliton equation as the delay parameter approaches 0. In addition, a delay-differential analogue of the KP equation is proposed. We discuss its N-soliton solution and the limit as the delay parameter approaches 0. Finally, the relationship between the delay-differential analogues of the KdV, BSQ, and KP equations is clarified. Namely, reductions of the delay KP equation yield the delay KdV and delay BSQ equations.
Boussinesq-like multi-component lattice equations and multi-dimensional consistency
Rogue wave patterns in the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the derivative NLS equation are analytically studied. It is shown that when the free parameters in the analytical expressions of these rogue waves are large, these waves would exhibit the same patterns, comprising fundamental rogue waves forming clear geometric structures such as triangle, pentagon, heptagon and nonagon, with a possible lower-order rogue wave at its center. These rogue patterns are analytically determined by the root structures of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomial hierarchy, and their orientations are control…
The nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) stands out as the dispersive nonlinear partial differential equation that plays a prominent role in the modeling and understanding of the wave phenomena relevant to many fields of nonlinear physics. The question of random input problems in the one-dimensional and integrable NLSE enters within the framework of integrable turbulence, and the specific question of the formation of rogue waves (RWs) has been recently extensively studied in this context. The determination of exact analytic solutions of the focusing 1D-NLSE prototyping RW events of statistica…
A new variant of the $(2+1)$-dimensional [$(2+1)d$] Boussinesq equation was recently introduced by J. Y. Zhu, arxiv:1704.02779v2, 2017; see eq. (3). First, we derive in this paper the one-soliton solutions of both bright and dark types for the extended $(2+1)d$ Boussinesq equation by using the traveling wave method. Second, $N$-soliton, breather, and rational solutions are obtained by using the Hirota bilinear method and the long wave limit. Nonsingular rational solutions of two types were obtained analytically, namely: (i) rogue-wave solutions having the form of W-shaped lines waves and (ii) …
We show that new types of rogue wave patterns exist in integrable systems, and these rogue patterns are described by root structures of Okamoto polynomial hierarchies. These rogue patterns arise when the $τ$ functions of rogue wave solutions are determinants of Schur polynomials with index jumps of three, and an internal free parameter in these rogue waves gets large. We demonstrate these new rogue patterns in the Manakov system and the three-wave resonant interaction system. For each system, we derive asymptotic predictions of its rogue patterns under a large internal parameter through Okamot…
The theory of integrable systems of Hamiltonian PDEs and their near-integrable deformations is used to study evolution equations resulting from vertical-averages of the Euler system for two-layer stratified flows in an infinite 2D channel. The Hamiltonian structure of the averaged equations is obtained directly from that of the Euler equations through the process of Hamiltonian reduction. Long-wave asymptotics together with the Boussinesq approximation of neglecting the fluids' inertia is then applied to reduce the leading order vertically averaged equations to the shallow-water Airy system, a…
An integrable system of two-component nonlinear Ablowitz-Ladik (AL) equations is used to construct complex rogue-wave (RW) solutions in an explicit form. First, the modulational instability of continuous waves is studied in the system. Then, new higher-order discrete two-component RW solutions of the system are found by means of a newly derived discrete version of a generalized Darboux transformation. Finally, perturbed evolution of these RW states is explored in terms of systematic simulations, which demonstrates that tightly and loosely bound RWs are, respectively, nearly stable and strongly…
Physics of nonlinear waves on variable backgrounds and the relevant mathematical analysis continues to be the challenging aspect of the study. In this work, we consider a (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear model describing the dynamics of {water waves} and construct nonlinear wave solutions on spatio-temporally controllable backgrounds for the first time by using a simple mathematical tool auto-Bäcklund transformation. Mainly, we unravel physically interesting features to control and manipulate the dynamics of nonlinear waves through the background. Adapting an exponential function and general polyno…
We construct rogue wave and breather solutions of a quasi-two-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a time-dependent interatomic interaction and external trap. We show that the trapping potential and an arbitrary functional parameter that present in the similarity transformation should satisfy a constraint for the considered equation to be integrable and yield the desired solutions. We consider two different forms of functional parameters and investigate how the density of the rogue wave and breather profiles vary with respect to these functional parameters. We also construct vector local…
General rogue waves are derived for the generalized derivative nonlinear Schrodinger (GDNLS) equations by a bilinear Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) reduction method. These GDNLS equations contain the Kaup-Newell equation, the Chen-Lee-Liu equation and the Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation as special cases. In this bilinear framework, it is shown that rogue waves to all members of these equations are expressed by the same bilinear solution. Compared to previous bilinear KP reduction methods for rogue waves in other integrable equations, an important improvement in our current KP reduction procedure is a n…
Nonlinear generalizations of integrable equations in one dimension, such as the KdV and Boussinesq equations with $p$-power nonlinearities, arise in many physical applications and are interesting in analysis due to critical behaviour. This paper studies analogous nonlinear $p$-power generalizations of the integrable KP equation and the Boussinesq equation in two dimensions. Several results are obtained. First, for all $p\neq 0$, a Hamiltonian formulation of both generalized equations is given. Second, all Lie symmetries are derived, including any that exist for special powers $p\neq0$. Third, …
Rogue waves named by oceanographers are ubiquitous in nature and appear in a variety of different contexts such as water waves, liquid Helium, nonlinear optics, microwave cavities, etc. In this letter, we propose a novel type of exact (2+1)-dimensional rogue waves which may be found in many physical fields described by integrable and nonintegrable models. This type of rogue waves are closely related to invisible lumps. Usually, a lump is an algebraically localized wave in space but visible at any time. Whence a lump induces a soliton, the lump will become invisible before or after a fixed time…
We study the standing periodic waves in the semi-discrete integrable system modelled by the Ablowitz-Ladik equation. We have related the stability spectrum to the Lax spectrum by separating the variables and by finding the characteristic polynomial for the standing periodic waves. We have also obtained rogue waves on the background of the modulationally unstable standing periodic waves by using the end points of spectral bands and the corresponding eigenfunctions. The magnification factors for the rogue waves have been computed analytically and compared with their continuous counterparts. The …
In this paper, a simple and constructive method is presented to find the generalized perturbation (n,M)-fold Darboux transformations (DTs) of the modified nonlinear Schrodinger (MNLS) equation in terms of fractional forms of determinants. In particular, we apply the generalized perturbation (1,N-1)-fold DTs to find its explicit multi-rogue-wave solutions. The wave structures of these rogue-wave solutions of the MNLS equation are discussed in detail for different parameters, which display abundant interesting wave structures, including the triangle and pentagon, etc. and may be useful to study …
In this paper, the physics-informed neural networks (PINN) is applied to high-dimensional system to solve the (N+1)-dimensional initial boundary value problem with 2N+1 hyperplane boundaries. This method is used to solve the most classic (2+1)-dimensional integrable Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation and (3+1)-dimensional reduced KP equation. The dynamics of (2+1)-dimensional local waves such as solitons, breathers, lump and resonance rogue are reproduced. Numerical results display that the magnitude of the error is much smaller than the wave height itself, so it is considered that the class…
We first report the first- and higher-order vector Peregrine solitons (alias rational rogue waves) for the any multi-component NLS equations based on the loop group theory, an explicit (n + 1)-multiple eigenvalue of a characteristic polynomial of degree (n + 1) related to the condition of Benjamin-Feir instability, and inverse functions. Particularly, these vector rational rogue waves are parity-time symmetric for some parameter constraints. A systematic and effective approach is proposed to study the asymptotic behaviors of these vector rogue waves such that the decompositions of rogue waves …
The extreme events are investigated for an $n$-component nonlinear Schrödinger ($n$-NLS) system in the focusing Kerr-like nonlinear media, which appears in many physical fields. We report and discuss the novel multi-parametric families of vector rational rogue wave (RW) solutions featuring the parity-time (PT) symmetry, which are characterized by non-identical boundary conditions for the components, and consistent with the degeneracy of $n$ branches of Benjamin-Feir instability. Explicit examples of PT-symmetric vector RWs are presented. Some parameter constraints can make some components gene…

In this article, a new integrable (2+1)-dimensional Kundu-Mukherjee-Naskar model which is a variant of the well known nonlinear Schrödinger equation is investigated. Bright-dark optical solitons along with periodic waves, complexiton and rational solutions are constructed by employing a generalized traveling wave analysis, Jacobian-elliptic function, Riccati equation and ansatz approach. Further, the dynamics of these bright/dark optical solitons and complexiton/periodic waves are studied by exploring the importance of arbitrary physical parameters with graphical demonstrations for a clear und…
