Supposing only that $\displaystyle\lim_{t \to 0} \frac{f(t)}{t} = 0$ and $\displaystyle\lim_{t \to \infty} \frac{f(t)}{t^{p}} = 0$, for some $p \in \left(1,\frac{N+1}{N-1}\right)$, we prove that solutions to the extension problem \begin{equation*}\left\{ \begin{array}{rcll} -Δu+ m^2u &=& 0, &\mbox{in} \ \ \mathbb{R}^{N+1}_{+} \\ -\frac{\partial u}{\partial{x}} (0,y)& =& f(u(0,y)), & y \in \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} and also to the extension Hartree problem \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{aligned} -Δu +m^2u&=0, &&\mbox{in} \ \mathbb{R}^{N+1}_+,\\ -\displaystyle\frac{\partial u}{\partial x}(0,y)&=-V_\infty u(0,y)+\left(\frac{1}{|y|^{N-α}}*F(u(0,y))\right)f(u(0,y)) &&\mbox{in} \ \mathbb{R}^{N}\end{aligned}\right. \end{equation*} are radially symmetric in $\mathbb{R}^N$. In the last problem, $V_\infty>0$ is a constant and $F$ the primitive of $f$. Under the same hypotheses, regularity and exponential decay of solutions to the first problem is also proved and, supposing the traditional Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, also existence of a ground state solution.
The Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in spatial dimension $d\geq 5$ is considered. The Cauchy problem is shown to be globally well-posed for small initial data in critical spaces and it is proved that solutions scatter to free solutions as $t \to \pm \infty$. The proof is based on i) novel endpoint non-isotropic Strichartz estimates which are derived from the $(d-1)$-dimensional Schrödinger equation, ii) transversal bilinear restriction estimates, and iii) an interpolation argument in critical function spaces. Under an additional radiality assumption, a similar result is obtained in dimension $d=4$…
We prove partial regularity for minimizers of vectorial integrals of the Calculus of Variations, with general growth condition, imposing quasiconvexity assumptions only in an asymptotic sense.
We consider the IBVP in exterior domains for the p-Laplacian parabolic system. We prove regularity up to the boundary, extinction properties for p \in ( 2n/(n+2) , 2n/(n+1) ) and exponential decay for p= 2n/(n+1) .
In this work we establish local $C^{2,α}$ regularity estimates for flat solutions to non-convex fully nonlinear elliptic equations provided the coefficients and the source function are of class $C^{0,α}$. For problems with merely continuous data, we prove that flat solutions are locally $C^{1,\text{Log-Lip}}$.
We prove an asymptotic Lipschitz estimate for value functions of tug-of-war games with varying probabilities defined in $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$. The method of the proof is based on a game-theoretic idea to estimate the value of a related game defined in $Ω\times Ω$ via couplings.
In this paper, we consider generalized thermoelastic plate equations with Fourier's law of heat conduction. By introducing a threshold for decay properties of regularity-loss, we investigate decay estimates of solutions with/without regularity-loss in a framework of weighted $L^1$ spaces. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of solutions are obtained by using representations of solutions in the Fourier space, which are derived by employing WKB analysis. Next, we study generalized thermoelastic plate equations with additional structural damping, and analysis the influence of structural damping on d…
Slightly compressible Brinkman-Forchheimer equations in a bounded 3D domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions are considered. These equations model fluids motion in porous media. The dissipativity of these equations in higher order energy spaces is obtained and regularity and smoothing properties of the solutions are studied. In addition, the existence of a global and an exponential attractors for these equations in a natural phase space is verified.
We study a parabolic free boundary problem, arising from a model for the propagation of equi-diffusional premixed flames with high activation energy. If an initial data is compactly supported, then the solution vanishes in a finite time, called the extinction time. In this paper, we give a quantitative estimate on the flatness of the free boundary and prove that the free boundary is asymptotically spherical and the solution is asymptotically self-similar.
We provide an asymptotic analysis of linear transport problems in the diffusion limit under minimal regularity assumptions on the domain, the coefficients, and the data. The weak form of the limit equation is derived and the convergence of the solution in the $L^2$ norm is established without artificial regularity requirements. This is important to be able to deal with problems involving realistic geometries and heterogeneous media. In a second step we prove the usual $O(\varepsilon)$ convergence rates under very mild additional assumptions. The generalization of the results to convergence in …
Based on the nonlinear steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou for oscillatory Riemann--Hilbert problems and the Dbar approach, the long-time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the fifth-order modified Korteweg-de Vries equation on the line is studied in the case of initial conditions that belong to some weighted Sobolev spaces. Using techniques in Fourier analysis and the idea of $I$-method, we give its global well-posedness in lower regularity Sobolev spaces, and then obtain the asymptotic behavior in these spaces with weights.
We consider a transmission problem where a structurally damped plate equation is coupled with a damped or undamped wave equation by transmission conditions. We show that exponential stability holds in the damped-damped situation and polynomial stability (but no exponential stability) holds in the damped-undamped case. Additionally, we show that the solutions first defined by the weak formulation, in fact have higher Sobolev space regularity.
In this paper, we investigate the higher regularity and asymptotic behavior for the 2-D magnetic Prandtl model in the Prandtl-Hartmann regime. Due to the degeneracy of horizontal velocity near boundary, the higher regularity of solution is a tricky problem. By constructing suitable approximated system and establishing closed energy estimate for a good quantity(called "quotient" in \cite{Guo-Iyer-2021}), our first result is to solve this higher regularity problem. Furthermore, we show the global well-posedness and global-in-$x$ asymptotic behavior when the initial data are small perturbation of…
We obtain an asymptotic Hölder estimate for functions satisfying a dynamic programming principle arising from a so-called ellipsoid process. By the ellipsoid process we mean a generalization of the random walk where the next step in the process is taken inside a given space dependent ellipsoid. This stochastic process is related to elliptic equations in non-divergence form with bounded and measurable coefficients, and the regularity estimate is stable as the step size of the process converges to zero. The proof, which requires certain control on the distortion and the measure of the ellipsoids…
We investigate the long time behavior of a system of viscoelastic particles modeled with the homogeneous Boltzmann equation. We prove the existence of a universal Maxwellian intermediate asymptotic state and explicit the rate of convergence towards it. Exponential lower pointwise bounds and propagation of regularity are also studied. These results can be seen as the generalization of several classical facts holding for the pseudo-Maxwellian and constant normal restitution models.
We prove the optimal global regularity of nonnegative solutions to the porous medium equation in smooth bounded domains with the zero Dirichlet boundary condition after certain waiting time $T^*$. More precisely, we show that solutions are $C^{2,α}(\overlineΩ)$ in space, with $α=\frac1m$, and $C^\infty$ in time (uniformly in $x\in \overlineΩ$), for $t>T^*$. Furthermore, this allows us to refine the asymptotics of solutions for large times, improving the best known results so far in two ways: we establish a faster rate of convergence $O(t^{-1-γ})$, and we prove that the convergence holds in the…
In this article, we consider and analyse a small variant of a functional originally introduced in \cite{BLS,LS} to approximate the (geometric) planar Steiner problem. This functional depends on a small parameter $\varepsilon>0$ and resembles the (scalar) Ginzburg-Landau functional from phase transitions. In a first part, we prove existence and regularity of minimizers for this functional. Then we provide a detailed analysis of their behavior as $\varepsilon\to0$, showing in particular that sublevel sets Hausdorff converge to optimal Steiner sets. Applications to the average distance problem an…
Recently, we have given the $l^2$ bijectivity for defocusing Ablowitz-Ladik systems in the discrete Sobolev space $l^{2,1}$ by inverse spectral method. Based on these results, the goal of this article is to investigate the long-time asymptotic property for the initial-valued problem of the defocusing Ablowitz-Ladik system with initial potential in lower regularity. The main idea is to perform proper deformations and analysis to the corespondent Riemann-Hilbert problem with the unit circle as the jump contour $Σ$. As a result, we show that when $|\frac{n}{2t}|\le 1<1$, the solution admits Zakha…
The asymptotic behavior of solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is considered on bounded smooth domains with no-slip boundary conditions or on periodic domains. Asymptotic regularity conditions are presented to ensure that the convergence of a Leray-Hopf weak solution to its weak omega-limit set (weak in the sense of the weak topology of the space H of square-integrable divergence-free velocity fields) are achieved also in the strong topology of H. In particular, if a weak omega-limit set is bounded in the space V of velocity fields with square-integrable vorticity then t…
Existence and uniqueness of solutions for nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations with degenerate potential is shown. The nonlocality is described by means of a symmetric singular kernel not falling within the framework of any previous existence theory. A convection term is also taken into account. Building upon this novel existence result, we prove convergence of solutions for this class of nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations to their local counterparts, as the nonlocal convolution kernels approximate a Dirac delta. Eventually, we show that, under suitable assumptions on the data, the solutions to the …
We consider the Cauchy problem for plate equations with rotational inertia and frictional damping terms. We will derive asymptotic profiles of the solution in L^2-sense as time goes to infinity in the case when the initial data have high and low regularity, respectively. Especially, in the low regularity case of the initial data one encounters the regularity-loss structure of the solutions, and the analysis is more delicate. We employ the so-called Fourier splitting method combined with the explicit expression of the solutions (high frequency estimates) and the method due to Ikehata (low frequ…
In this paper, we prove the regularity of the free boundary in the Monge-Ampère obstacle problem $\det D^2 v= f(y)χ_{\{v>0\}}. $ By duality, the regularity of the free boundary is equivalent to that of the asymptotic cone of the solution to the singular Monge-Ampère equation $\det D^2 u = 1/f (Du)+δ_0$ at the origin. We first establish an asymptotic estimate for the solution $u$ near the singular point, then use a partial Legendre transform to change the Monge-Ampère equation to a singular, fully nonlinear elliptic equation, and establish the regularity of solutions to the singular elliptic eq…
In this paper, we investigate that the Hölder regularity of solutions to the time fractional Schrödinger equation of order $1<α<2$, which interpolates between the Schrödinger and wave equations. This is inspired by Hirata and Miao's work which studied the fractional diffusion-wave equation. First, we give the asymptotic behavior for the oscillatory distributional kernels and their Bessel potentials by using Fourier analytic techniques. Then, the space regularity is derived by employing some results on singular Fourier multipliers. Using the asymptotic behavior for the above kernels, we prove t…
In a recent paper, Kenig, Ponce and Vega study the low regularity behavior of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), focusing modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV), and complex Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations. Using soliton and breather solutions, they demonstrate the lack of local well-posedness for these equations below their respective endpoint regularities. In this paper, we study the defocusing analogues of these equations, namely defocusing NLS, defocusing mKdV, and real KdV, all in one spatial dimension, for which suitable soliton and breather solutions are unavailable. We construct fo…
We consider $u(x,t)$, a solution of $\partial_tu = Δu + |u|^{p-1}u$ which blows up at some time $T > 0$, where $u:\mathbb{R}^N \times[0,T) \to \mathbb{R}$, $p > 1$ and $(N-2)p < N+2$. Define $S \subset \mathbb{R}^N$ to be the blow-up set of $u$, that is the set of all blow-up points. Under suitable nondegeneracy conditions, we show that if $S$ contains a $(N-\ell)$-dimensional continuum for some $\ell \in \{1,\dots, N-1\}$, then $S$ is in fact a $\mathcal{C}^2$ manifold. The crucial step is to derive a refined asymptotic behavior of $u$ near blow-up. In order to obtain such a refined behavior,…
The paper concerned with higher order asymptotic expansion of solutions to the Cauchy problem of abstract hyperbolic equations of the form $u''+Au+u'=0$ in a Hilbert space, where $A$ is a nonnegative selfadjoint operator. The result says that by assuming the regularity of initial data, asymptotic profiles (of arbitrary order) are explicitly written by using the semigroup $e^{-tA}$ generated by $-A$. To prove this, a kind of maximal regularity for $e^{-tA}$ is used.
For each continuous initial data $φ(x)\in C(M,\mathbb{R})$, we obtain the asymptotic Lipschitz regularity of the viscosity solution of the following evolutionary Hamilton-Jacobi equation with convex and coercive Hamiltonians: \partial_tu(x,t)+H(x,\partial_xu(x,t))=0, u(x,0)=φ(x).
This work is devoted to radiative transfer equations with long-range interactions. Such equations arise in the modeling of high frequency wave propagation in random media with long-range dependence. In the regime we consider, the singular collision operator modeling the interaction between the wave and the medium is conservative, and as a consequence wavenumbers take values on the unit sphere. Our goals are to investigate the regularizing effects of grazing collisions, the diffusion limit, and the peaked forward limit. As in the case where wavenumbers take values in R^{d+1}, we show that the t…
Properties of solutions of generic hyperbolic systems with multiple characteristics with diagonalizable principal part are investigated. Solutions are represented as a Picard series with terms in the form of iterated Fourier integral operators. It is shown that this series is an asymptotic expansion with respect to smoothness under quite general geometric conditions. Propagation of singularities and sharp regularity properties of solutions are obtained. Results are applied to establish regularity estimates for scalar weakly hyperbolic equations with involutive characteristics. They are also ap…
We derive regularity estimates for viscosity solutions to the parabolic normalized p-Laplace. By using approximation methods and scaling arguments for the normalized p-parabolic operator, we show that the gradient of bounded viscosity solutions is locally asymptotically Lipschitz continuous when $p$ is sufficiently close to 2. In addition, we establish regularity estimates in Sobolev spaces.
In this paper we prove an asymptotic $C^{1,γ}$-estimate for value functions of stochastic processes related to uniformly elliptic dynamic programming principles. As an application, this allows us to pass to the limit with a discrete gradient and then to obtain a $C^{1,γ}$-result for the corresponding limit PDE.
We study an initial-boundary value problem for the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard system with non-constant density proposed by Abels, Garcke and Grün in 2012. This model arises in the diffuse interface theory for binary mixtures of viscous incompressible fluids. This system is a generalization of the well-known model H in the case of fluids with unmatched densities. In three dimensions, we prove that any global weak solution (for which uniqueness is not known) exhibits a propagation of regularity in time and stabilizes towards an equilibrium state as $t \rightarrow \infty$. More pr…
We establish the small data solvability of suitable quasilinear wave and Klein-Gordon equations in high regularity spaces on a geometric class of spacetimes including asymptotically de Sitter spaces. We obtain our results by proving the global invertibility of linear operators with coefficients in high regularity $L^2$-based function spaces and using iterative arguments for the non-linear problems. The linear analysis is accomplished in two parts: Firstly, a regularity theory is developed by means of a calculus for pseudodifferential operators with non-smooth coefficients, similar to the one d…
In this paper, we study some intrinsic characterization of conformally compact manifolds. We show that, if a complete Riemannian manifold admits an essential set and its curvature tends to -1 at infinity in certain rate, then it is conformally compactifiable and the compactified metrics can enjoy some regularity at infinity. As consequences we prove some rigidity theorems for complete manifolds whose curvature tends to the hyperbolic one in a rate greater than 2.
By making use of the approximation method, we obtain the existence and regularity of the viscosity solutions for the generalized mean curvature flow. The asymptotic behavior of the flow is also considered. In particular, the Dirichlet problem of the degenerate elliptic equation $$ -|\nabla v|(\mathrm{div}(\frac{\nabla v}{|\nabla v|})+ν)=0 $$ is solvable in viscosity sense.
We obtain an analytic proof for asymptotic Hölder estimate and Harnack's inequality for solutions to a discrete dynamic programming equation. The results also generalize to functions satisfying Pucci-type inequalities for discrete extremal operators. Thus the results cover a quite general class of equations.
In this paper we consider maximal regularity for the vector-valued quasi-steady linear elliptic problems. The equations are the elliptic equation in the domain and the evolution equations on its boundary. We prove the maximal $L_p$-$L_q$ regularity for these problems and give examples that our results are applicable. The Lopatinskii--Shapiro and the asymptotic Lopatinskii--Shapiro conditions are important to get boundedness of solution operators.
We obtain local Lipschitz regularity for minima of autonomous integrals in the calculus of variations, assuming $q$-growth hypothesis and $W^{1,p}$-quasiconvexity only asymptotically, both in the sub-quadratic and the super-quadratic case.
We revisit the asymptotic analysis of the KdV shock problem in the soliton region. Our approach is based on the analysis of the associated Riemann-Hilbert problem and we extend the domain of validity of the asymptotic formulas while at the same time requiring less decay and smoothness for the initial data.
This paper is concerned with a non-conserved phase field system of Caginalp type in which the main operators are fractional versions of two fixed linear operators $A$ and $B$. The operators $A$ and $B$ are supposed to be densely defined, unbounded, self-adjoint, monotone in the Hilbert space $L^2(Ω)$, for some bounded and smooth domain $Ω$, and have compact resolvents. Our definition of the fractional powers of operators uses the approach via spectral theory. A nonlinearity of double-well type occurs in the phase equation and either a regular or logarithmic potential, as well as a non-differen…
We present a new method for obtaining sharp asymptotics of solutions of the defocussing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, based on dbar methods and under essentially minimal regularity assumptions on initial data.
In this paper we consider elastic waves with Kelvin-Voigt damping in 2D. For the linear problem, applying pointwise estimates of the partial Fourier transform of solutions in the Fourier space and asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues and their eigenprojections, we obtain sharp energy decay estimates with additional $L^m$ regularity and $L^p-L^q$ estimates on the conjugate line. Furthermore, we derive asymptotic profiles of solutions under different assumptions of initial data. For the semilinear problem, we use the derived $L^2-L^2$ estimates with additional $L^m$ regularity to prove global (i…
We study a class of linearly coupled system of quasilinear equations. Under some assumptions on the nonlinear terms, we establish some results about the existence and regularity of vector solutions for the p-Laplacian systems by using variational methods. In particular, we get two pairs of nontrivial solutions. We also study their different asymptotic behavior of solutions as the coupling parameter tends to zero.
For the Schrödinger operator $-Δ_\rm{g}+V$ on a complete Riemannian manifold with real valued potential $V$ of compact support, we establish a sharp equivalence between Sobolev regularity of $V$ and the existence of finite-order asymptotic expansions as $t\rightarrow 0$ of the relative trace of the Schrödinger heat kernel. As an application, we generalize a result of Sà Barreto and Zworski, concerning the existence of resonances on compact metric perturbations of Euclidean space, to the case of bounded measurable potentials.
We consider the porous medium equation on manifolds with conical singularities and show existence, uniqueness and maximal $L^{p}$-regularity of a short time solution. In particular, we obtain information on the short time asymptotics of the solution near the conical point. Our method is based on bounded imaginary powers results for cone differential operators on Mellin-Sobolev spaces and $R$-sectoriality perturbation techniques.
We provide regularity results at the boundary for continuous viscosity solutions to nonconvex fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations and inequalities in Euclidian domains. We show that (i) any solution of two sided inequalities with Pucci extremal operators is $C^{1,α}$ on the boundary; (ii) the solution of the Dirichlet problem for fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations is $C^{2,α}$ on the boundary; (iii) corresponding asymptotic expansions hold. This is an extension to viscosity solutions of the classical Krylov estimates for smooth solutions.
We construct a family of conserved energies for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, but in the low regularity case (in \cite{KL} we have constructed conserved energies in the high regularity situation). This can be done thanks to regularization procedures and a study of the topological structure of the finite-energy space. The asymptotic (regularised conserved) phase change on the real line with values in $ \R/2π\Z$ is studied. We also construct a conserved quantity, the renormalized momentum $H_1$ (see Theorem \ref{thm:E1}), on the universal covering space of the finite-energy spac…
