We construct a family of conserved energies for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, but in the low regularity case (in \cite{KL} we have constructed conserved energies in the high regularity situation). This can be done thanks to regularization procedures and a study of the topological structure of the finite-energy space. The asymptotic (regularised conserved) phase change on the real line with values in $ \R/2π\Z$ is studied. We also construct a conserved quantity, the renormalized momentum $H_1$ (see Theorem \ref{thm:E1}), on the universal covering space of the finite-energy space.
We prove the global-in-time well-posedness of the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation in the energy space, which is a complete metric space equipped with a newly introduced metric and with the energy norm describing the $H^s$ regularities of the solutions. We establish a family of conserved energies for the one dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, such that the energy norms of the solutions are conserved globally in time. This family of energies is also conserved by the complex modified Korteweg-de Vries flow.
In the nineties, Klein, Majda and Damodaran have formally derived a simplified asymptotic motion law for the evolution of nearly parallel vortex filaments in the context of the three dimensional Euler equation for incompressible fluids. In the present work, we rigorously derive the corresponding asymptotic motion law in the context of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation.
We study the Cauchy problem for an inhomogeneous Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We first derive a sharp threshold for global existence and blow up of the solution. Then we construct and classify finite time blow up solutions at the minimal mass threshold. Additionally, using variational techniques, we study the existence, the orbital stability and instability of standing waves.
We construct a smooth branch of travelling wave solutions for the 2 dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equations for small speed. These travelling waves exhibit two vortices far away from each other. We also compute the leading order term of the derivatives with respect to the speed. We construct these solutions by an implicit function type argument.
In this paper, we justify the semiclassical limit of Gross-Pitaevskii equation with Dirichlet boundary condition on the 3-D upper space under the assumption that the leading order terms to both initial amplitude and initial phase function are sufficiently small in some high enough Sobolev norms. We remark that the main difficulty of the proof lies in the fact that the boundary layer appears in the leading order terms of the amplitude functions and the gradient of the phase functions to the WKB expansions of the solutions. In particular, we partially solved the open question proposed in \cite{C…
We prove existence and qualitative properties of ground state solutions to a generalized nonlocal 3rd-4th order Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Using a mountain pass argument on spheres and constructing appropriately localized Palais-Smale sequences we are able to prove existence of real positive ground states as saddle points. The analysis is deployed in the set of possible states, thus overcoming the problem that the energy is unbounded below. We also prove a corresponding nonlocal Pohozaev identity with no rest term, a crucial part of the analysis.
In this paper we consider traveling waves for the Gross-Pitaevskii equation which are T-periodic in each variable. We prove that if T is large enough, there exists a solution as a global minimizer of the corresponding action functional. In the subsonic case, we can use variational methods to prove the existence of a mountain-pass solution. Moreover, we show that for small T the problem admits only constant solutions.
We study the well-posedness of two systems modeling the non-equilibrium dynamics of pumped decaying Bose-Einstein condensates. In particular, we present the local theory for rough initial data using the Fourier restricted norm method introduced by Bourgain. We extend the result globally for initial data in $L^2$.
We study the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in dimension two with periodic conditions in one direction, or equivalently on the product space $\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{T}_L$ where $L > 0$ and $\mathbb{T}_L = \mathbb{R} / L \mathbb{Z}.$ We focus on the variational problem consisting in minimizing the Ginzburg-Landau energy under a fixed momentum constraint. We prove that there exists a threshold value for $L$ below which minimizers are the one-dimensional dark solitons, and above which no minimizer can be one-dimensional.
In the previous paper, we constructed a smooth branch of travelling waves for the 2 dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Here, we continue the study of this branch. We show some coercivity results, and we deduce from them the kernel of the linearized operator, a spectral stability result, as well as a uniqueness result in the energy space. In particular, our result proves the non degeneracy of these travelling waves, which is a key step in the classification of these waves and for the construction of multi-travelling waves.
We consider the final-data problem for systems of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with $L^2$ subcritical nonlinearity. An asymptotically free solution is uniquely obtained for almost every randomized asymptotic profile in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, extending the result of J. Murphy to powers equal to or lower than the Strauss exponent. In particular, systems with quadratic nonlinearity can be treated in three space dimensions, and by the same argument, the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in the energy space. The extension is by use of the Strichartz estimate with a time weight.
We investigate the existence of ground state solutions of a Gross-Pitaevskii equation modeling the dynamics of pumped Bose Einstein condensates (BEC). The main interest in such BEC comes from its important nature as macroscopic quantum system, constituting an excellent alternative to the classical condensates which are hard to realize because of the very low temperature required. Nevertheless, the Gross Pitaevskii equation governing the new condensates presents some mathematical challenges due to the presence of the pumping and damping terms. Following a self-contained approach, we prove the e…
In this short report we give a proof of the existence of a stationary solution to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in $2d$ driven by a space-time white noise.
In this paper we consider the two-dimensional stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which is a model to describe Bose-Einstein condensation at positive temperature. The equation is a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with a harmonic potential and an additive space-time white noise. We study the well-posedness of the model using an inhomogeneous Wick renormalization due to the potential, and prove the existence of an invariant measure and of stationary martingale solutions.
In 1982, Ball, Marsden, and Slemrod proved an obstruction to the controllability of linear dynamics with a bounded bilinear control term. This note presents an example of nonlinear dynamics with respect to the state for which this obstruction still holds while the control potential is not bounded.
Bäcklund transformations are applied to study the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Supported by previous results, a class of Bäcklund transformations admitted by this equation are constructed. Schwartzian derivative as well as its invariance properties turn out to represent a key tool in the present investigation. Examples and explicit solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation are obtained.
We consider systems of $N$ bosons in $\mathbb{R}^3$, trapped by an external potential. The interaction is repulsive and has a scattering length of the order $N^{-1}$ (Gross-Pitaevskii regime). We determine the ground state energy and the low-energy excitation spectrum up to errors that vanish in the limit $N\to \infty$.
We review some mathematical work on the Bose gas in the Gross-Pitaevskii regime. We start with the classical results by Lieb, Seiringer and Yngvason on the ground state energy and by Lieb and Seiringer on the existence of Bose-Einstein condensation. Afterwards, we discuss some more recent progress, based on a rigorous version of Bogoliubov theory.
In this paper we study the bilinear-control problem for the linear and non-linear Schr{ö}dinger equation with harmonic potential. By the means of different examples, we show how space-time smoothing effects (Strichartz estimates, Kato smoothing effect) enjoyed by the linear flow, can help to prove obstructions to controllability.
We consider Bose gases consisting of $N$ particles trapped in a box with volume one and interacting through a repulsive potential with scattering length of the order $N^{-1}$(Gross-Pitaevskii regime). We determine the ground state energy and the low-energy excitation spectrum, up to errors vanishing as $N \to \infty$. Our results confirm Bogoliubov's predictions.
