The phenomena of subdiffusion are widely observed in physical and biological systems. To investigate the effects of external potentials, say, harmonic potential, linear potential, and time dependent force, we study the subdiffusion described by subordinated Langevin equation with white Gaussian noise, or equivalently, by the single Langevin equation with compound noise. If the force acts on the subordinated process, it keeps working all the time; otherwise, the force just exerts an influence on the system at the moments of jump. Some common statistical quantities, such as, the ensemble and time averaged mean squared displacement, position autocorrelation function, correlation coefficient, generalized Einstein relation, are discussed to distinguish the effects of various forces and different patterns of acting. The corresponding Fokker-Planck equations are also presented. All the stochastic processes discussed here are non-stationary, non-ergodicity, and aging.
Inspired by one--dimensional light--particle systems, the dynamics of a non-Hamiltonian system with long--range forces is investigated. While the molecular dynamics does not reach an equilibrium state, it may be approximated in the thermodynamic limit by a Vlasov equation that does possess stable stationary solutions. This implies that on a macroscopic scale, the molecular dynamics evolves on a slow timescale that diverges with the system size. At the single-particle level, the evolution is driven by incoherent interaction between the particles, which may be effectively modeled by a noise, lea…
We reveal the mechanism of subdiffusion which emerges in a straightforward, one dimensional classical nonequilibrium dynamics of a Brownian ratchet driven by both a time-periodic force and Gaussian white noise. In a tailored parameter set for which the deterministic counterpart is in a non-chaotic regime, subdiffusion is a long-living transient whose lifetime can be many, many orders of magnitude larger than characteristic time scales of the setup thus being amenable to experimental observations. As a reason for this subdiffusive behaviour in the coordinate space we identify thermal noise indu…
Logarithmic or Sinai type subdiffusion is usually associated with random force disorder and non-stationary potential fluctuations whose root mean squared amplitude grows with distance. We show here that extremely persistent, macroscopic ultraslow logarithmic diffusion also universally emerges at sufficiently low temperatures in stationary Gaussian random potentials with spatially decaying correlations, known to exist in a broad range of physical systems. Combining results from extensive simulations with a scaling approach we elucidate the physical mechanism of this unusual subdiffusion. In par…
Anomalous dynamics characterized by non-Gaussian probability distributions (PDFs) and/or temporal long-range correlations can cause subtle modifications of conventional fluctuation relations. As prototypes we study three variants of a generic time-fractional Fokker-Planck equation with constant force. Type A generates superdiffusion, type B subdiffusion and type C both super- and subdiffusion depending on parameter variation. Furthermore type C obeys a fluctuation-dissipation relation whereas A and B do not. We calculate analytically the position PDFs for all three cases and explore numericall…
We analyze two models of subdiffusion with stochastic resetting. Each of them consists of two parts: subdiffusion based on the continuous-time random walk (CTRW) scheme and independent resetting events generated uniformly in time according to the Poisson point process. In the first model the whole process is reset to the initial state, whereas in the second model only the position is subject to resets. The distinction between these two models arises from the non-Markovian character of the subdiffusive process. We derive exact expressions for the two lowest moments of the full propagator, stati…
In this paper we consider heterogeneous diffusion processes with the power-law dependence of the diffusion coefficient on the position and investigate the influence of external forces on the resulting anomalous diffusion. The heterogeneous diffusion processes can yield subdiffusion as well as superdiffusion, depending on the behavior of the diffusion coefficient. We assume that not only the diffusion coefficient but also the external force has a power-law dependence on the position. We obtain analytic expressions for the transition probability in two cases: when the power-law exponent in the e…
We present the reduced dynamics of a bead in a Rouse chain which is submerged in a bath containing a driving agent that renders it out-of-equilibrium. We first review the generalized Langevin equation of the middle bead in an equilibrated bath. Thereafter, we introduce two driving forces. Firstly, we add a constant force that is applied to the first bead of the chain. We investigate how the generalized Langevin equation changes due to this perturbation for which the system evolves towards a new equilibrium state after some time. Secondly, we consider the case of stochastic active forces which …
We study the dynamics of an ideal polymer chain in a crowded, viscoelastic medium and in the presence of active forces. The motion of the centre of mass and of individual monomers is calculated. On time scales that are comparable to the persistence time of the active forces, monomers can move superdiffusively while on larger time scales subdiffusive behaviour occurs. The difference between this subdiffusion and that in absence of active forces is quantified. We show that the polymer swells in response to active processes and determine how this swelling depends on the viscoelastic properties of…
The non--static generalized Langevin equation and its corresponding Fokker--Planck equation for the position of a viscous fluid particle were solved in closed form for a time dependent external force. Its solution for a constant external force was obtained analytically. The non--Markovian stochastic differential equation, associated to the dynamics of the position under a colored noise, was then applied to the description of the dynamics and persistence time of particles constrained within absorbing barriers. Comparisons with molecular dynamics were very satisfactory.
Using extensive numerical studies we demonstrate that absolute negative mobility of a Brownian particle (i.e. the net motion into the direction opposite to a constant biasing force acting around zero bias) does coexist with anomalous diffusion. The latter is characterized in terms of a nonlinear scaling with time of the mean-square deviation of the particle position. Such anomalous diffusion covers "coherent" motion (i.e. the position dynamics x(t) approaches in evolving time a constant dispersion), ballistic diffusion, subdiffusion, superdiffusion and hyperdiffusion. In providing evidence for…
Brownian yet non-Gaussian processes have recently been observed in numerous biological systems and the corresponding theories have been built based on random diffusivity models. Considering the particularity of random diffusivity, this paper studies the effect of an external force acting on two kinds of random diffusivity models whose difference is embodied in whether the fluctuation-dissipation theorem is valid. Based on the two random diffusivity models, we derive the Fokker-Planck equations with an arbitrary external force, and analyse various observables in the case with a constant force, …
Aging phenomena have been observed in numerous physical systems. Many statistical quantities depend on the aging time $t_a$ for aging anomalous diffusion processes. This paper pays more attention to how an external force field affects the aging Lévy walk. Based on the Langevin picture of Lévy walk and generalized Green-Kubo formula, we investigate the quantities which include the ensemble- and time-averaged mean-squared displacements in both weak aging $t_a\ll t$ and strong aging $t_a\gg t$ cases, and compare them to the quantities in the absence of any force field. Two typical force fields, c…
A classical particle system coupled with a thermostat driven by an external constant force reaches its steady state when the ensemble-averaged drift velocity does not vary with time. The statistical mechanics of such a system is derived merely based on the equal probability and ergodicity principles, free from any conclusions drawn on equilibrium statistical mechanics or local equilibrium hypothesis. The momentum space distribution is determined by a random walk argument, and the position space distribution is determined by employing the equal probability and ergodicity principles. The express…
The diffusion of a molecular motor in the presence of a constant external force is considered on the basis of a simple theoretical model. The motor is represented by a Brownian particle moving in a series of parabolic potentials placed periodically on a line, and the potential is switched stochastically from one parabola to another by a chemical reaction, which corresponds to the ATP hydrolysis or synthesis in motor proteins. It is found that the diffusion coefficient as a function of the force exhibits peaks. The mechanism of this diffusion enhancement and the possibility of observing it in F…
We investigate the long time behavior of a passive particle evolving in a one-dimensional diffusive random environment, with diffusion constant $D$. We consider two cases: (a) The particle is pulled forward by a small external constant force, and (b) there is no systematic bias. Theoretical arguments and numerical simulations provide evidence that the particle is eventually trapped by the environment. This is diagnosed in two ways: The asymptotic speed of the particle scales quadratically with the external force as it goes to zero, and the fluctuations scale diffusively in the unbiased environ…
We investigate the influence of external forces on the collective dynamics of interacting active Brownian particles in two as well as three spatial dimensions. Via explicit coarse graining, we derive predictive models that are applicable for space- and time-dependent external force fields. We study these models for the cases of gravity and harmonic traps. In particular, we derive a generalized barometric formula for interacting active Brownian particles under gravity that is valid for low to high concentrations and activities of the particles. Furthermore, we show that one can use an external …
The effect of a constant applied external force, induced for instance by an electric or gravitational field, on the dispersion of Brownian particles in periodic media with spatially varying diffusivity, and thus mobility, is studied. We show that external forces can greatly enhance dispersion in the direction of the applied force and also modify, to a lesser extent and in some cases non-monotonically, dispersion perpendicular to the applied force. Our results thus open up the intriguing possibility of modulating the dispersive properties of heterogeneous media by using externally applied force…
We look at the influence of external fields on systems described by generic free energy functional of the order parameter. The external force may have arbitrary spatial dependence, and the order parameter coupling may be nonlinear. The treatment generalizes seemingly disparate works, such as pure fluids, liquid and polymer mixtures, lipid monolayers, and colloidal suspensions in electric fields, fluids and nematics in gravity, solutions in an ultracentrifuge, and liquid mixtures in laser radiation. The phase lines and thermodynamic behavior are calculated at the mean-field level. We find a ``s…
We numerically study an anisotropic shape transformation of membranes under external forces for two-dimensional triangulated surfaces on the basis of Finsler geometry. The Finsler metric is defined by using a vector field, which is the tangential component of a three dimensional unit vector $σ$ corresponding to the tilt or some external macromolecules on the surface of disk topology. The sigma model Hamiltonian is assumed for the tangential component of $σ$ with the interaction coefficient $λ$. For large (small) $λ$, the surface becomes oblong (collapsed) at relatively small bending rigidity. …
We study diffusion in ratchet systems. As a particular experimental realization we consider an asymmetric SQUID subjected to an external ac current and a constant magnetic flux. We analyze mean-square displacement of the Josephson phase and find that within selected parameter regimes it evolves in three distinct stages: initially as superdiffusion, next as subdiffusion and finally as normal diffusion in the asymptotic long-time limit. We show how crossover times that separates these stages can be controlled by temperature and an external magnetic flux. The first two stages can last many orders…
Periodic force induced stabilization or destabilization of the denatured state of a protein
因此,与一维障碍交叉问题不同,外部振荡力场诱导蛋白质的两个\emph{stabilization or destabilization of the denatured state}。我们还研究了折叠动力学对温度,粘度,在外场存在下浴的非马尔可夫性质的参数依赖性。
We investigate the synchronization transition of the Shinomoto-Kuramoto model on networks of the fruit-fly and two large human connectomes. This model contains a force term, thus is capable of describing critical behavior in the presence of external excitation. By numerical solution we determine the crackling noise durations with and without thermal noise and show extended non-universal scaling tails characterized by $2< τ_t < 2.8$, in contrast with the Hopf transition of the Kuramoto model, without the force $τ_t=3.1(1)$. Comparing the phase and frequency order parameters we find different tr…
