Given a densely defined and closed operator $A$ acting on a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, we establish a one-to-one correspondence between its closed extensions and subspaces $\mathfrak{M}\subset\mathcal{D}(A^*)$, that are closed with respect to the graph norm of $A^*$ and satisfy certain conditions. In particular, this will allow us to characterize all densely defined and closed restrictions of $A^*$. After this, we will express our results using the language of Gel'fand triples generalizing the well-known results for the selfadjoint case.
As applications we construct: (i) a sequence of densely defined operators that converge in the generalized sense to a non-densely defined operator, (ii) a non-closable extension of a symmetric operator and (iii) selfadjoint extensions of Laplacians with a generalized boundary condition.
It is proved that every operator from a weak$^*$-closed subspace of $\ell_1$ into a space $C(K)$ of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space $K$ can be extended to an operator from $\ell_1$ to $C(K)$.
A bounded linear operator $ A$ on a Hilbert space $ \mathcal H $ is said to be an $ EP $ (hypo-$ EP $) operator if ranges of $ A $ and $ A^* $ are equal (range of $ A $ is contained in range of $ A^* $) and $ A $ has a closed range. In this paper, we define $EP$ and hypo-$EP$ operators for densely defined closed linear operators on Hilbert spaces and extend results from bounded operator settings to (possibly unbounded) closed operator settings.
In this paper, we prove that the Cauchy integral operators (or Cauchy transforms) define continuous linear operators on the Smirnov classes for some certain domain with closed analytic boundary.
In this paper, first we characterize closedness of range of the finite sum of weighted composition operators between different Lp-spaces. Then we discuss polar decomposition and invertibility of these operators.
Let $X$ and $Z$ be Banach spaces, $A$ a closed subset of $X$ and a mapping $f:A \to Z$. We give necessary and sufficient conditions to obtain a $C^1$ smooth mapping $F:X \to Z$ such that $F_{\mid_A}=f$, when either (i) $X$ and $Z$ are Hilbert spaces and $X$ is separable, or (ii) $X^*$ is separable and $Z$ is an absolute Lipschitz retract, or (iii) $X=L_2$ and $Z=L_p$ with $1<p<2$, or (iv) $X=L_p$ and $Z=L_2$ with $2<p<\infty$.
In this paper, we prove three necessary and sufficient conditions for the integral operator Sg to have closed range on Hardy Hp (1<p<\infty), BMOA and Besov Bp (1<p<\infty) spaces.
In recent years the coincidence of the operator relations equivalence after extension and Schur coupling was settled for the Hilbert space case, by showing that equivalence after extension implies equivalence after one-sided extension. In this paper we investigate consequences of equivalence after extension for compact Banach space operators. We show that generating the same operator ideal is necessary but not sufficient for two compact operators to be equivalent after extension. In analogy with the necessary and sufficient conditions on the singular values for compact Hilbert space operators …
Let $A$ be a densely defined closed operator in a complex Banach space $X.$ Conditions for left invertibility of operators of the form $\sum_{j=1}^\infty a_j (α_j -A)^{-1}$ are given. Several examples are considered.
The wark is a contribution to the functional calculus constructed by of the author and A. A. Atvinovskii of closed operators on Banach spaces. The calculus is based on Markov and related functions as symbols. Estimates of bounded perturbations of operator functions with respect to general operator ideal norms, operator Lipschitzness, moment inequality, Freshet operator differentiability, and Livshitz-Krein trace formulae have been considered.
We prove that in the reflexive range $1<p<q<\infty$ the algebra of all bounded linear operators on $\ell_p\oplus\ell_q$ has infinitely many closed ideals. This solves a problem raised by A. Pietsch in his book `Operator ideals'.
We provide an extension operator for weighted Sobolev spaces on bounded polyhedral cones $K$ involving a mixture of weights, which measure the distance to the vertex and the edges of the cone, respectively. Our results are based on Stein's extension operator for Sobolev spaces.
Given a dissipative operator $A$ on a complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ such that the quadratic form $f\mapsto \mbox{Im}\langle f,Af\rangle$ is closable, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for an extension of $A$ to still be dissipative. As applications, we describe all maximally accretive extensions of strictly positive symmetric operators and all maximally dissipative extensions of a highly singular first-order operator on the interval.
We give a sufficient condition for the sum of two closed operators to be closed. In particular, we study the sum of two sectorial operators with the sum of their sectoriality angles greater than $π$. We show that if one of the operators admits bounded $H^{\infty}$-calculus and the resolvent of the other operator satisfies a boundedness condition stronger than the standard sectoriality, but weaker than the bounded imaginary powers property in the case of UMD spaces, then the sum is closed. We apply the result to the abstract parabolic problem and give a sufficient condition for $L^{p}$-maximal …
Some results on fixed points related to the contractive compositions of bounded operators in complete metric spaces are discussed through the manuscript. The class of composite operators under study can include, in particular, sequences of projection operators under, in general, oblique projective operators.
We describe a closed operator functional calculus in Banach modules over the group algebra $L^1(\mathbb R)$ and illustrate its usefulness with a few applications. In particular, we deduce a spectral mapping theorem for operators in the functional calculus, which generalizes some of the known results. We also obtain an estimate for the spectrum of a perturbed differential operator in a certain class.
This paper is concerned with a boundedness of trace and extension operators for Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on upper half space with variable exponents. To define trace and extension operators, we introduce a quarkonial decomposition for Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with variable exponents on ${\mathbb R}^n$. Furthermore, we study trace and extension operators for Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with variable exponents on upper half spaces ${\mathbb R}^n_+$.
In this paper we study invertible extensions of a symmetric operator in a Hilbert space $H$. All such extensions are characterized by a parameter in the generalized Neumann's formulas. Generalized resolvents, which are generated by the invertible extensions, are extracted by a boundary condition among all generalized resolvents in the Shtraus formula.
In this paper we study extensions of commuting tuples of symmetric and isometric operators to commuting tuples of self-adjoint and unitary operators. Some conditions which ensure the existence of such extensions are presented. A multidimensional analog of the Godič-Lucenko Theorem is proved. An application to a multidimensional power-trigonometric moment problem is given.
In a real Hilbert spaces H a smooth operator F is studied, whose derivative at each point of its domain is a symmetric operator. In terms of abstract boundary conditions locally self-adjoint extensions of this operator are described. We use some concepts and facts from symplectic differential geometry.
We study extension operators on Sobolev spaces with decreasing integrability on the base of set functions associated with the operator norms. Sharp necessary conditions in the terms of the generalized density condition and the terms of weak equivalence of Euclidean and intrinsic metrics are given.
We show a Kalton-Weis type theorem for the general case of non-commuting operators. More precisely, we consider sums of two possibly non-commuting linear operators defined in a Banach space such that one of the operators admits a bounded $H^\infty$-calculus, the resolvent of the other one satisfies some weaker boundedness condition and the commutator of their resolvents has certain decay behavior with respect to the spectral parameters. Under this consideration, we show that the sum is closed and that after a sufficiently large positive shift it becomes invertible, and moreover sectorial. As a…
We define a family of linear type (D) operators for which the inverse of their maximal monotone extensions to the bidual are not of type (D) and provide an example of an operator in this family.
We prove the subnormality of an operator-weighted composition operator whose symbol is a transformation of a discrete measure space and weights are multiplication operators in $L^2$-spaces under the assumption of existence of a family of probability measures whose Radon-Nikodym derivatives behave regular along the trajectories of the symbol. We build the quasinormal extension which is a weighted composition operator induced by the same symbol. We give auxiliary results concerning commutativity of operator-weighted composition operators with multiplication operators.
We revise Krein's extension theory of positive symmetric operators. Our approach using factorization through an auxiliary Hilbert space has several advantages: it can be applied to non-densely defined transformations and it works in both real and complex spaces. As an application of the results and the construction we consider positive self-adjoint extensions of the modulus square operator $T^*T$ of a densely defined linear transformation $T$ and bounded self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator. Krein's results on the uniqueness of positive (respectively, norm preserving) self-adjoint e…
In this paper we study an extension problem for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on Riemannian symmetric spaces of noncompact type and use the solution to prove Hardy-type inequalities for fractional powers of the Laplace-Beltrami operator. Next, we study the mapping properties of the extension operator. In the last part we prove Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities on these spaces.
In this paper we use the notion of operator-valued symbol in order to compute the index of Toeplitz operators on compact Lie groups. Our approach combines the Connes index theorem and the infinite-dimensional operator-valued symbolic calculus of Ruzhansky-Turunen. We also give applications to the index of Toeplitz operators on simply connected closed $3$-manifolds $\mathbb{M}\simeq \mathbb{S}^3\simeq \textnormal{SU}(2) ,$ by using, as a fundamental tool, the Poincaré theorem (see Perelman [31,32,33,34])
We characterize by boundary conditions the Krein-von Neumann extension of a strictly positive minimal operator corresponding to a regular even order quasi-differential expression of Shin-Zettl type. The characterization is stated in terms of a specially chosen basis for the kernel of the maximal operator and employs a description of the Friedrichs extension due to Möller and Zettl.
Let $H_1,H_2$ be complex Hilbert spaces and $T:H_1\rightarrow H_2$ be a densely defined closed operator with domain $D(T)\subseteq H_1$ and $T^{\dagger}$ be the Moore-Penrose inverse of $T$. Let $S:H_1\rightarrow H_2$ be a bounded operator. In this article we focus our attention on the following questions: $1.$ Under what conditions closedness of range of $T$ will imply the closedness of range of $T+S$? $2.$ What is the relation between $T^{\dagger}$ and $(T+S)^{\dagger}$? $3.$ What is the relation between $T^{\dagger}$ and $S^{\dagger}$?.
We classify the closed ideals of bounded operators acting on the Banach spaces $\left(\bigoplus_{n \in \mathbb{N}} \ell_2^n\right)_{c_0} \oplus c_0(Γ)$ and $\left(\bigoplus_{n \in \mathbb{N}} \ell_2^n\right)_{\ell_1} \oplus \ell_1(Γ)$ for every uncountable cardinal $Γ$.
We prove that Burenkov's Extension Operator preserves Sobolev spaces built on general Morrey spaces, including classical Morrey spaces. The analysis concerns bounded and unbounded open sets with Lipschitz boundaries in the n-dimensional Euclidean space.
A bounded linear operator $A$ on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ is posinormal if there exists a positive operator $P$ such that $AA^{*} = A^{*}PA$. We show that if $A$ is posinormal with closed range, then $A^n$ is posinormal and has closed range for all integers $n\ge 1$. Because the collection of posinormal operators includes all hyponormal operators, we obtain as a corollary that powers of closed-range hyponormal operators continue to have closed range. We also present a simple example of a closed-range operator $T: \mathcal{H}\to \mathcal{H}$ such that $T^2$ does not have closed range.
The aim of the paper is firstly to study domains of definitions in terms of boundary conditions of minimal and maximal operators, as well as selfadjoint extensions of a minimal operator associated with the fourth-order differential operator equation. Further, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for that operators to have a purely discrete or continuous spectrum, to exist extension with resolvent from $σ_p,$ study asymptotics of spectrum in case pure discrete spectrum. Finally, give the new and more general method for evaluations of regularized traces of operators with discrete spectrum…
We present a general method for constructing operators without non-trivial invariant closed subsets on a large class of non-reflexive Banach spaces. In particular, our approach unifies and generalizes several constructions due to Read of operators without non-trivial invariant subspaces on the spaces $\ell_{1}$, $c_{0}$ or $\oplus_{\ell_{2}}J$, and without non-trivial invariant subsets on $\ell_{1}$. We also investigate how far our methods can be extended to the Hilbertian setting, and construct an operator on a quasireflexive dual Banach space which has no non-trivial $w^{*}$-closed invariant…
We present more than 50 results including some range inclusion results to characterize reverse order law for Moore-Penrose inverse of closed range Hilbert space operators. We use basic properties of Moore-Penrose inverse to prove the results. Some examples are also provided to illustrate failure cases to hold the reverse order law in infinite dimensional settings.
In this work, firstly in the Hilbert space of vector-functions L^2 (H,(-\infty,a)\bup(b,+\infty)),a<b all selfadjoint extensions of the minimal operator generated by linear singular symmetric differential expression l(\cdot)=i d/dt+A with a selfadjoint operator coefficient A in any Hilbert space H, are described in terms of boundary values. Later structure of the spectrum of these extensions is investigated.
In this paper we extend Korovkin's theorem to the context of sequences of weakly nonlinear and monotone operators defined on certain Banach function spaces. Several examples illustrating the theory are included.
We prove that the spaces $\mathcal L(\ell_p,\mathrm{c}_0)$, $\mathcal L(\ell_p,\ell_\infty)$ and $\mathcal L(\ell_1,\ell_q)$ of operators with $1<p,q<\infty$ have continuum many closed ideals. This extends and improves earlier works by Schlumprecht and Zsák, by Wallis, and by Sirotkin and Wallis. Several open problems remain. Key to our construction of closed ideals are matrices with the Restricted Isometry Property that come from Compressed Sensing.
We introduce the $λ$-mean transform $M_λ(T)$ of a Hilbert space operator $T$ as an extension of some operator transforms based on the Duggal transform $T^D$ by $M_λ(T) := λT + (1-λ)T^D$, and present some of its essentially properties. Among other things, we obtain estimates for the operator norm and numerical radius of the $λ$-mean transform $M_λ(T)$ in terms of the original operator $T$.
We prove several results establishing conditions on the Banach lattices E_1,..., E_m and F so that the Aron-Berner extensions of (separately) almost Dunford-Pettis m-linear operators from E_1 x ... x E_m to F are (separately) almost Dunford-Pettis. Illustrative examples are provided.
We prove that Stein's Extension Operator preserves Sobolev-Morrey spaces, that is spaces of functions with weak derivatives in Morrey spaces. The analysis concerns classical and generalized Morrey spaces on bounded and unbounded domains with Lipschitz boundaries in the n-dimensional Euclidean space.
In this paper it is proved that each densely defined $J$-skew-symmetric operator (or each $J$-isometric operator with $\overline{D(A)}=\overline{R(A)}=H$) in a Hilbert space $H$ has a $J$-skew-self-adjoint (respectively $J$-unitary) extension in a Hilbert space $\widetilde H\supseteq H$. We follow the ideas of Galindo in~[A.~Galindo, On the existence of $J$-self-adjoint extensions of $J$-symmetric operators with adjoint, Communications on pure and applied mathematics, Vol. XV, 423-425 (1962)] with necessary modifications.
In this paper, we characterize all closed linear operators in a separable Hilbert space which are unitarily equivalent to an integral bi-Carleman operator in $L_2(R)$ with bounded and arbitrarily smooth kernel on $R^2$. In addition, we give an explicit construction of corresponding unitary operators. The main result is a qualitative sharpening of an earlier result of [5].
We show that the already known results for a composition operator to have closed range on H2 (Cima, Thomson, and Wogen (1974), Zorboska (1994)) can be extended to Hp for p>0 .
