We classify simple groups that act by birational transformations on compact complex Kähler surfaces. Moreover, we show that every finitely generated simple group that acts non-trivially by birational transformations on a projective surface over an arbitrary field is finite.
We prove that the group of birational transformations of a Del Pezzo fibration of degree 3 over a curve is not simple, by giving a surjective group homomorphism to a free product of infinitely many groups of order 2. As a consequence we also obtain that the Cremona group of rank 3 is not generated by birational maps preserving a rational fibration. Besides, its subgroup generated by all connected algebraic subgroups is a proper normal subgroup.
In this article, we study birational transformations belonging to Galois points for certain plane quartic curve. In fact, we see that they can be extended to Cremona transformations. In particular, we determine the conjugacy class of them. We have that they are all conjugate to linear transformations.
We study birational transformations belonging to Galois points. Let $P$ be a Galois point for a plane curve $C$ and $G_P$ be a Galois group at $P$. Then an element of $G_P$ induces a birational transformation of $C$. In general, it is difficult to determine when this birational transformations can be extended to a Cremona (or projective) transformation. In this article, we shall prove that if the Galois group is isomorphic to the cyclic group of order three, then any element of the Galois group has an expression as a de Jonquières transformation. In particular, they can be extended to Cremona …
We introduce the notion of induced birational transformations of irreducible holomorphic symplectic sixfolds of the sporadic deformation type discovered by O'Grady. We give a criterion to determine when a manifold of $OG_6$ type is birational to a moduli space of sheaves on an abelian surface. Then we determine when a birational transformation of the moduli space is induced by an automorphism of the abelian surface. Referring to the Mongardi--Rapagnetta--Saccá birational model of manifolds of $OG_6$ type, we give a result to determine when a birational transformation is induced at the quotient…
We extend our classification of special Cremona transformations whose base locus has dimension at most three to the case when the target space is replaced by a (locally) factorial complete intersection.
A birational transformation f: P^n --> Z, where Z is a nonsingular variety of Picard number 1, is called a special birational transformation of type (a, b) if f is given by a linear system of degree a, its inverse is given by a linear system of degree b and the base locus S \subset P^n of f is irreducible and nonsingular. In this paper, we classify special birational transformations of type (2,1). In addition to previous works Alzati-Sierra and Russo on this topic, our proof employs natural C^*-actions on Z in a crucial way. These C^*-actions also relate our result to the problem studied in ou…
We study how relative quantum cohomology, defined by Tseng--You and Fan--Wu--You, varies under birational transformations. For toric complete intersections with simple normal crossings divisors that contain the loci of indeterminacy, we prove that their respective relative $I$-functions can be directly identified. For toric complete intersections with smooth divisors, we prove that their respective relative $I$-functions are related by analytic continuation. We also study some connections with extremal transitions and FJRW theory.
Pseudo-automorphisms are birational transformations acting as regular automorphisms in codimension 1. We import ideas from geometric group theory to prove that a group of birational transformations that satisfies a fixed point property on CAT(0) cubical complexes, for example a discrete countable group with Kazhdan Property (T), is birationally conjugate to a group acting by pseudo-automorphisms on some non-empty Zariski-open subset. We apply this argument to classify groups of birational transformations of surfaces with this fixed point property up to birational conjugacy.
We classify the group of birational automorphisms of Hilbert schemes of points on algebraic K3 surfaces of Picard rank one. We study whether these automorphisms are symplectic or non-symplectic and if there exists a hyperkähler birational model on which they become biregular. We also present new geometrical constructions of these automorphisms.
One of the major open problems in noncommutative algebraic geometry is the classification of noncommutative projective surfaces (or, slightly more generally, of noetherian connected graded domains of Gelfand-Kirillov dimension 3). In a companion paper the authors described a noncommutative version of blowing down and, for example, gave a noncommutative analogue of Castelnuovo's classic theorem that lines of self-intersection (-1) on a smooth surface can be contracted. In this paper we will use these techniques to construct explicit birational transformations between various noncommutative surf…
For each d we construct CAT(0) cube complexes on which Cremona groups rank d act by isometries. From these actions we deduce new and old group theoretical and dynamical results about Cremona groups. In particular, we study the dynamical behaviour of the irreducible components of exceptional loci, we prove regularization theorems, we find new constraints on the degree growth for non-regularizable birational transformations, and we show that the centralizer of certain birational transformations is small.
Complex projective algebraic varieties with $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions can be thought of as geometric counterparts of birational transformations. In this paper we describe geometrically the birational transformations associated to rational homogeneous varieties endowed with a $\mathbb{C}^*$-action with no proper isotropy subgroups.
We construct families of birational involutions on $\mathbb{P}^3$ or a smooth cubic threefold which do not fit into a non-trivial elementary relation of Sarkisov links. As a consequence, we construct new homomorphisms from their group of birational transformations, effectively re-proving their non-simplicity. We also prove that these groups admit a free product structure. Finally, we produce automorphisms of these groups that are not generated by inner and field automorphisms.
