In this paper we study the mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (mean-field bsde) of the form dY(t) =-f(t,Y(t),Z(t),K(t, . ),E[φ(Y(t),Z(t),K(t,.))])dt+Z(t)dB(t) +\int_{R_{0}}K(t,ζ)\tilde{N}(dt,dζ), where B is a Brownian motion, \tilde{N} is the compensated Poisson random measure.
Under some mild conditions, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution triplet (Y,Z,K). It is commonly believed that there is no comparison theorem for general mean-field bsde. However, we prove a comparison theorem for a subclass of these equations. When the mean-field bsde is linear, we give an explicit formula for the first component Y(t) of the solution triplet. Our results are applied to solve a mean-field recursive utility optimization problem in finance.
In this paper, we establish the Carleman estimates for forward and backward stochastic fourth order Schrödinger equations, on basis of which, we can obtain the observability, unique continuation property and the exact controllability for the forward and backward stochastic fourth order Schrödinger equations.
In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness theorem, comparison theorem of a class of anticipated mean-field backward stochastic differential equations with jumps.
In this paper, we study the maximum principle for stochastic optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic difference systems (FBSΔSs). Two types of FBSΔSs are investigated. The first one is described by a partially coupled forward-backward stochastic difference equation (FBSΔE) and the second one is described by a fully coupled FBSΔE. By adopting an appropriate representation of the product rule and an appropriate formulation of the backward stochastic difference equation (BSΔE), we deduce the adjoint difference equation. Finally, the maximum principle for this optimal control probl…
In this paper, we study the optimal control problem of a controlled time-symmetric forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equation with initial-terminal sate constraints. Applying the terminal perturbation method and Ekeland's variation principle, a necessary condition of the stochastic optimal control, i.e., stochastic maximum principle is derived. Applications to backward doubly stochastic linear-quadratic control models are investigated.
In this paper we are concerned with a new type of backward equations with anticipation which we call neutral backward stochastic functional differential equations. We obtain the existence and uniqueness and prove a comparison theorem. As an application, we discuss the optimal control of neutral stochastic functional differential equations, establish a Pontryagin maximum principle, and give an explicit optimal value for the linear optimal control.
Optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs in short) are formulated and studied. A general duality principle is established for linear backward stochastic integral equation and linear stochastic Fredholm-Volterra integral equation with mean-field. With the help of such a duality principle, together with some other new delicate and subtle skills, Pontryagin type maximum principles are proved for two optimal control problems of FBSVIEs.
In this paper, we present a numerical scheme to solve the initial-boundary value problem for backward stochastic partial differential equations of parabolic type. Based on the Galerkin method, we approximate the original equation by a family of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short), and then solve these BSDEs by the time discretization. Combining the truncation with respect to the spatial variable and the backward Euler method on time variable, we obtain the global $L^2$ error estimate.
In this paper, we consider a partial information two-person zero-sum stochastic differential game problem where the system is governed by a backward stochastic differential equation driven by Teugels martingales associated with a Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion. One sufficient (a verification theorem) and one necessary conditions for the existence of optimal controls are proved. To illustrate the general results, a linear quadratic stochastic differential game problem is discussed.
We study the problem of optimal control of a coupled system of forward-backward stochastic Volterra equations. We use Hida-Malliavin calculus to prove a sufficient and a necessary maximum principle for the optimal control of such systems. Existence and uniqueness of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations are proved. As an application of our methods, we solve a recursive utility optimisation problem in a financial model with memory.
We study methods for solving stochastic control problems of systems of forward-backward mean-field equations with delay, in finite or infinite horizon. Necessary and sufficient maximum principles under partial information are given. The results are applied to solve a recursive utility optimal problem
In this paper, an open-loop two-person non-zero sum stochastic differential game is considered for forward-backward stochastic systems. More precisely, the controlled systems are described by a fully coupled nonlinear multi- dimensional forward-backward stochastic differential equation driven by a multi-dimensional Brownian motion. one sufficient (a verification theorem) and one necessary conditions for the existence of open-loop Nash equilibrium points for the corresponding two-person non-zero sum stochastic differential game are proved. The control domain need to be convex and the admissible…
We study optimal stochastic control problems of general coupled systems of forward-backward stochastic differential equations with jumps. By means of the Itô-Ventzell formula the system is transformed to a controlled backward stochastic partial differential equation (BSPDE) with jumps. Using a comparison principle for such BSPDEs we obtain a general stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi- Bellman (HJB) equation for such control problems. In the classical Markovian case with optimal control of jump diffusions, the equation reduces to the classical HJB equation. The results are applied to study risk minimiz…
This paper is concerned with the existence of optimal controls for backward stochastic partial differential equations with random coefficients, in which the control systems are represented in an abstract evolution form, i.e. backward stochastic evolution equations. Under some growth and monotonicity conditions on the coefficients and suitable assumptions on the Hamiltonian function, the existence of the optimal control boils down to proving the uniqueness and existence of a solution to the stochastic Hamiltonian system, i.e. a fully coupled forward-backward stochastic evolution equation. Using…
The paper is concerned with optimal control of backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) driven by Teugel's martingales and an independent multi-dimensional Brownian motion, where Teugel's martingales are a family of pairwise strongly orthonormal martingales associated with Lévy processes (see Nualart and Schoutens \cite{NuSc}). We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the optimal control by means of convex variation methods and duality techniques. As an application, the optimal control problem of linear backward stochastic differential equation with a quad…
This paper presents three versions of maximum principle for a stochastic optimal control problem of Markov regime-switching forward-backward stochastic differential equations with jumps (FBSDEJs). A general sufficient maximum principle for optimal control for a system driven by a Markov regime-switching forward and backward jump-diffusion model is developed. After, an equivalent maximum principle is proved. Malliavin calculus is also employed to derive a general stochastic maximum principle. The latter does not require concavity of Hamiltonian. Applications of the stochastic maximum principle …
This paper focuses on a kind of linear quadratic non-zero sum differential game driven by backward stochastic differential equation with asymmetric information, which is a natural continuation of Wang and Yu [IEEE TAC (2010) 55: 1742-1747, Automatica (2012) 48: 342-352]. Different from Wang and Yu [IEEE TAC (2010) 55: 1742-1747, Automatica (2012) 48: 342-352], novel motivations for studying this kind of game are provided. Some feedback Nash equilibrium points are uniquely obtained by forward-backward stochastic differential equations, their filters and the corresponding Riccati equations with …
We are interested on reflected advanced backward stochastic differential equations (RABSDE) with default. By the predictable representation property and for a Lipschitz driver, we show that the RABSDE with default has a unique solution in the enlarged filtration. A comparison theorem for such type of equations is proved. Finally, we give a connection between RABSDE and optimal stopping.
In this paper, we study an optimal control problem of linear backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with quadratic cost functional under partial information. This problem is solved completely and explicitly by using a stochastic maximum principle and a decoupling technique. By using the maximum principle, a stochastic Hamiltonian system, which is a forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) with filtering, is obtained. By decoupling the stochastic Hamiltonian system, three Riccati equations, a BSDE with filtering, and a stochastic differential equation (SDE) with filte…
This paper is concerned with linear quadratic optimal control problems for mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (MF-BSDEs, for short) with deterministic coefficients. The optimality system, which is a linear mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with constraint, is obtained by a variational method. By decoupling the optimality system, two coupled Riccati equations and an MF-BSDE are derived. It turns out that the coupled two Riccati equations are uniquely solvable. Then a complete and explicit representation is obtained for the optimal control.
We consider a problem of optimal control of an infinite horizon system governed by forward-backward stochastic differential equations with delay. Sufficient and necessary maximum principles for optimal control under partial information in infinite horizon are derived. We illustrate our results by an application to a problem of optimal consumption with respect to recursive utility from a cash flow with delay.
This paper is concerned with a linear quadratic optimal control problem of delayed backward stochastic differential equations. An explicit representation is derived for the optimal control, which is a linear feedback of the entire past history and the future state trajectory in a short period of time. This is one of the major distinctive features of the delayed backward stochastic linear quadratic optimal control problem. To obtain the optimal feedback, a new class of delayed Riccati equations is introduced and the unique solvability of their solutions are discussed in detail.
We prove existence and uniqueness of the mild solution of an infinite dimensional, operator valued, backward stochastic Riccati equation. We exploit the regularizing properties of the semigroup generated by the unbounded operator involved in the equation. Then the results will be applied to characterize the value function and optimal feedback law for a infinite dimensional, linear quadratic control problem with stochastic coefficients.
The main purpose of this paper is to improve our transposition method to solve both vector-valued and operator-valued backward stochastic evolution equations with a general filtration. As its application, we obtain a general Pontryagin-type maximum principle for optimal controls of stochastic evolution equations in infinite dimensions. In 1articular, we drop the technical assumption appeared in [Q. Lü and X. Zhang, Springer Briefs in Mathematics,Springer, New York, 2014, Theorem 9.1].
We study a stochastic optimal control problem for fully coupled forward-backward stochastic control systems with a nonempty control domain. For our problem, the first-order and second-order variational equations are fully coupled linear FBSDEs. Inspired by Hu (Hu, Probability, Uncertainty and Quantitative Risk, 2(1) (2017):pp 1-20), we develop a new decoupling approach by introducing an adjoint equation which is a quadratic BSDE. By revealing the relations among the terms of the first-order Taylor's expansions, we estimate the orders of them and derive a global stochastic maximum principle whi…
This paper aims to provide directly the observability inequality of backward stochastic heat equations for measurable sets. As an immediate application, the null controllability of the forward heat equations is obtained. Moreover, an interesting relaxed optimal actuator location problem is formulated, and the existence of its solution is proved. Finally, the solution is characterized by a Nash equilibrium of the associated game problem.
This paper is concerned with a discounted optimal control problem of partially observed forward-backward stochastic systems with jumps on infinite horizon. The control domain is convex and a kind of infinite horizon observation equation is introduced. The uniquely solvability of infinite horizon forward (backward) stochastic differential equation with jumps is obtained and more extended analysis, especially for the backward case, is made. Some new estimates are first given and proved for the critical variational inequality. Then an ergodic maximum principle is obtained by introducing some infi…
This paper is mainly concerned with the solutions to both forward and backward mean-field stochastic partial differential equation and the corresponding optimal control problem for mean-field stochastic partial differential equation. We first prove the continuous dependence theorems of forward and backward mean-field stochastic partial differential equations and show the existence and uniqueness of solutions to them. Then we establish necessary and sufficient optimality conditions of the control problem in the form of Pontryagin's maximum principles. To illustrate the theoretical results, we a…
This article is concerned with an optimal control problem derived by mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with noisy observation, where the drift coefficients of the state equation and the observation equation are linear with respect to the state and its expectation. The control problem is different from the existing literature on optimal control for mean-field stochastic systems, and has more applications in mathematical finance, e.g., asset-liability management problem with recursive utility, systematic risk model. Using a backward separation method with a decompositi…
This paper is concerned with a linear-quadratic (LQ, for short) optimal control problem for backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short), where the coefficients of the backward control system and the weighting matrices in the cost functional are allowed to be random. By a variational method, the optimality system, which is a coupled linear forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE, for short), is derived, and by a Hilbert space method, the unique solvability of the optimality system is obtained. In order to construct the optimal control, a new stochastic Riccati…
In this paper we consider the maximum principle of optimal control for a stochastic control problem. This problem is governed by a system of fully coupled multi-dimensional forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equation with Poisson jumps. Moreover, all the coefficients appearing in this system are allowed to be random and depend on the control variable. We derive, in particular, sufficient conditions for optimality for this stochastic optimal control problem.
In this paper, we consider a stochastic decision problem for a system governed by a stochastic differential equation, in which an optimal decision is made in such a way to minimize a vector-valued accumulated cost over a finite-time horizon that is associated with the solution of a certain multi-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). Here, we also assume that the solution for such a multi-dimensional BSDE {\it almost surely} satisfies a backward stochastic viability property w.r.t. a given closed convex set. Moreover, under suitable conditions, we establish the existence…
In this paper, we study backward doubly stochastic recursive optimal control problem where the cost function is described by the solution of a backward doubly stochastic differential equation. We give the dynamical programming principle for this kind of optimal control problem and show that the value function is the unique Sobolev weak solution for the corresponding stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation.
For a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE, for short), when the generator is not progressively measurable, it might not admit adapted solutions, shown by an example. However, for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short), the generators are allowed to be anticipating. This gives, among other things, an essential difference between BSDEs and BSVIEs. Under some proper conditions, the well-posedness of such kinds of BSVIEs is established. Further, the results are extended to path-dependent BSVIEs, in which the generators can depend on the future paths of unkn…
In this paper, we study the maximum principle for stochastic optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic difference systems (FBSΔSs) where the uncertainty is modeled by a discrete time, finite state process, rather than white noises. Two types of FBSΔSs are investigated. The first one is described by a partially coupled forward-backward stochastic difference equation (FBSΔE) and the second one is described by a fully coupled FBSΔE. By adopting an appropriate representation of the product rule and an appropriate formulation of the backward stochastic difference equation (BSΔE), we d…
We study a stochastic optimal control problem for forward-backward control systems with quadratic generators. In order to establish the first and second-order variational and adjoint equations, we obtain a new estimate for one-dimensional linear BSDEs with unbounded stochastic Lipschitz coefficients involving bounded mean oscillation martingales (BMO-martingales for short) and prove the solvability for a class of multi-dimensional BSDEs with this type. Finally, a new global stochastic maximum principle is deduced.
In this paper, we investigate infinite horizon jump-diffusion forward-backward stochastic differential equations under some monotonicity conditions. We establish an existence and uniqueness theorem, two stability results and a comparison theorem for solutions to such kind of equations. Then the theoretical results are applied to study a kind of infinite horizon backward stochastic linear-quadratic optimal control problems, and then differential game problems. The unique optimal controls for the control problems and the unique Nash equilibrium points for the game problems are obtained in closed…
In this paper, we study extended backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (EBSVIEs, for short). We establish the well-posedness under weaker assumptions than the literature, and prove a new kind of regularity property for the solutions. As an application, we investigate, in the open-loop framework, a time-inconsistent stochastic recursive control problem where the cost functional is defined by the solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE, for short). We show that the corresponding adjoint equations become EBSVIEs, and provide a necessary and sufficient conditi…
We study a novel general class of multidimensional type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Toward this goal, we introduce an infinite dimensional system of standard backward SDEs and establish its well-posedness, and we show that it is equivalent to that of a type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equation. We also establish a representation formula in terms of non-linear semilinear partial differential equation of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman type. As an application, we consider the study of time-inconsistent stochastic control from a game-theoretic point of view. We show the…
This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem of backward stochastic partial differential equations (BSPDEs) with nonhomogeneous terms of quadratic growth in both the gradient of the first unknown and the second unknown. As an example, we consider a non-Markovian stochastic optimal control problem with cost functional formulated by a quadratic BSDE, where the corresponding value function satisfies the above quadratic BSPDE.
This paper is devoted to a stochastic differential game of functional forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE, for short). The associated upper and lower value functions of the stochastic differential game are defined by controlled functional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short). Applying the Girsanov transformation method introduced by Buckdahn and Li [1], the upper and the lower value functions are shown to be deterministic. We also generalize the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs (HJBI, for short) equations to the path-dependent ones. By establishing t…
We introduce a time-implicit, finite-element based space-time discretization scheme for the backward stochastic heat equation, and for the forward-backward stochastic heat equation from stochastic optimal control, and prove strong rates of convergence. The fully discrete version of the forward-backward stochastic heat equation is then used within a gradient descent algorithm to approximately solve the linear-quadratic control problem for the stochastic heat equation driven by additive noise.
In this paper we investigate a kind of optimal control problem of coupled forward-backward stochastic system with jumps whose cost functional is defined through a coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equation with Brownian motion and Poisson random measure. For this end, we first study the regularity of solutions for this kind of forward-backward stochastic differential equations. We obtain that the value function is a deterministic function and satisfies the dynamic programming principle for this kind of optimal control problem. Moreover, we prove that the value functions is a vis…

This paper is devoted to the stochastic optimal control problems for systems governed by forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs, for short) with state constraints. Using Ekeland's variational principle, we obtain one kind of variational inequality. Then, by dual method, we derive a stochastic maximum principle which gives the necessary conditions for the optimal controls.
In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the fully coupled nonlinear forward-backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion. Assuming that the diffusion coefficient $σ$ is uniformly elliptic and all coefficients are differentiable, combining the results of fully nonlinear PDEs, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations.
This paper considers the problem of uniqueness of the solutions to a class of Markovian backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) which are also connected to certain nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) through a probabilistic representation. Assuming that there is a solution to the BSDE or to the corresponding PDE, we use the probabilistic interpretation to show the uniqueness of the solutions, and provide an example of a stochastic control application.
We consider the problem of valuation of American (call and put) options written on a dividend paying stock governed by the geometric Brownian motion. We show that the value function has two different but related representations: by means of a solution of some nonlinear backward stochastic differential equation and weak solution to some semilinear partial differential equation.
This paper studies the convergence of three temporal semi-discretizations for a backward semilinear stochastic evolution equation. For general terminal value and general coefficient with Lipschitz continuity, the convergence of the first two temporal semi-discretizations is established, and an explicit convergence rate is derived for the third temporal semi-discretization. The third temporal semi-discretization is applied to a general stochastic linear quadratic control problem, and the convergence of a temporally semi-discrete approximation to the optimal control is established.
