We study the problem of optimal control of a coupled system of forward-backward stochastic Volterra equations. We use Hida-Malliavin calculus to prove a sufficient and a necessary maximum principle for the optimal control of such systems. Existence and uniqueness of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations are proved. As an application of our methods, we solve a recursive utility optimisation problem in a financial model with memory.
Optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs in short) are formulated and studied. A general duality principle is established for linear backward stochastic integral equation and linear stochastic Fredholm-Volterra integral equation with mean-field. With the help of such a duality principle, together with some other new delicate and subtle skills, Pontryagin type maximum principles are proved for two optimal control problems of FBSVIEs.
Optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs, in short) with closed control regions are formulated and studied. Instead of using spike variation method as one may imagine, here we turn to treat the non-convexity of the control regions by borrowing some tools in set-valued analysis and adapting them into our stochastic control systems. A duality principle between linear backward stochastic Volterra integral equations and linear stochastic Fredholm-Volterra integral equations with conditional expectation are derived, which extends and improves the …
We study a novel general class of multidimensional type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Toward this goal, we introduce an infinite dimensional system of standard backward SDEs and establish its well-posedness, and we show that it is equivalent to that of a type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equation. We also establish a representation formula in terms of non-linear semilinear partial differential equation of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman type. As an application, we consider the study of time-inconsistent stochastic control from a game-theoretic point of view. We show the…
Backward doubly stochastic Volterra integral equations (BDSVIEs, for short) are introduced and studied systematically. Well-posedness of BDSVIEs in the sense of introduced M-solutions is established. A comparison theorem for BDSVIEs is proved. By virtue of the comparison theorem, we derive the existence of solutions for BDSVIEs with continuous coefficients. Furthermore, a duality principle between linear (forward) doubly stochastic Volterra integral equation (FDSVIE, for short) and BDSVIE is obtained. A Pontryagin type maximum principle is also established for an optimal control problem of FDS…
In this paper, we study extended backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (EBSVIEs, for short). We establish the well-posedness under weaker assumptions than the literature, and prove a new kind of regularity property for the solutions. As an application, we investigate, in the open-loop framework, a time-inconsistent stochastic recursive control problem where the cost functional is defined by the solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE, for short). We show that the corresponding adjoint equations become EBSVIEs, and provide a necessary and sufficient conditi…
For a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE, for short), when the generator is not progressively measurable, it might not admit adapted solutions, shown by an example. However, for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short), the generators are allowed to be anticipating. This gives, among other things, an essential difference between BSDEs and BSVIEs. Under some proper conditions, the well-posedness of such kinds of BSVIEs is established. Further, the results are extended to path-dependent BSVIEs, in which the generators can depend on the future paths of unkn…
This paper is devoted to the stochastic optimal control problems for systems governed by forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs, for short) with state constraints. Using Ekeland's variational principle, we obtain one kind of variational inequality. Then, by dual method, we derive a stochastic maximum principle which gives the necessary conditions for the optimal controls.
Infinite horizon backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs for short) are investigated. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the adapted M-solution in a weighted $L^2$-space. Furthermore, we extend some important known results for finite horizon BSVIEs to the infinite horizon setting. We provide a variation of constant formula for a class of infinite horizon linear BSVIEs and prove a duality principle between a linear (forward) stochastic Volterra integral equation (SVIE for short) and an infinite horizon linear BSVIE in a weighted $L^2$-space. As an application, we investiga…
An optimal control problem is considered for a stochastic differential equation with the cost functional determined by a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE, for short). This kind of cost functional can cover the general discounting (including exponential and non-exponential) situation with a recursive feature. It is known that such a problem is time-inconsistent in general. Therefore, instead of finding a global optimal control, we look for a time-consistent locally near optimal equilibrium strategy. With the idea of multi-person differential games, a family of approximate e…
In this paper, we propose and study the asymptotic convergence and nonasymptotic global convergence rates (iteration-complexity) of an inertial under-relaxed version of the relative-error hybrid proximal extragradient (HPE) method for solving monotone inclusion problems. We analyze the proposed method under more flexible assumptions than existing ones on the extrapolation and relative-error parameters. As applications, we propose and/or study inertial under-relaxed forward-backward and Tseng's modified forward-backward type methods for solving structured monotone inclusions.
In this paper, we propose a stochastic forward-backward-forward splitting algorithm and prove its almost sure weak convergence in real separable Hilbert spaces. Applications to composite monotone inclusion and minimization problems are demonstrated.
Spike variation technique plays a crucial role in deriving Pontryagin's type maximum principle of optimal controls for differential equations of several types, including ordinary differential equations (ODEs), partial differential equations (PDEs), and stochastic differentia equations (SDEs), when the control domains are not assumed to be convex. This technique also applies to (deterministic forward) Volterra intrgral equations (FVIEs). It is natural to expect that such a technique could be extended to the case of (forward) stochastic Volterra integral equations (FSVIEs). However, by mimicking…
In this paper, we establish the Carleman estimates for forward and backward stochastic fourth order Schrödinger equations, on basis of which, we can obtain the observability, unique continuation property and the exact controllability for the forward and backward stochastic fourth order Schrödinger equations.
In this work, we propose and analyse two splitting algorithms for finding a zero of the sum of three monotone operators, one of which is assumed to be Lipschitz continuous. Each iteration of these algorithms require one forward evaluation of the Lipschitz continuous operator and one resolvent evaluation of each of the other two operators. By specialising to two operator inclusions, we recover the forward-reflected-backward and the reflected-forward-backward splitting methods as particular cases. The inspiration for the proposed algorithms arises from interpretations of the aforementioned refle…
We propose a variable metric extension of the forward--backward-forward algorithm for finding a zero of the sum of a maximally monotone operator and a Lipschitzian monotone operator in Hilbert spaces. In turn, this framework provides a variable metric splitting algorithm for solving monotone inclusions involving sums of composite operators. Several splitting algorithms recently proposed in the literature are recovered as special cases.
We propose a forward-backward splitting algorithm based on Bregman distances for composite minimization problems in general reflexive Banach spaces. The convergence is established using the notion of variable quasi-Bregman monotone sequences. Various examples are discussed, including some in Euclidean spaces, where new algorithms are obtained.
We study methods for solving stochastic control problems of systems of forward-backward mean-field equations with delay, in finite or infinite horizon. Necessary and sufficient maximum principles under partial information are given. The results are applied to solve a recursive utility optimal problem
We propose and analyze a versatile and general algorithm called nonlinear forward-backward splitting (NOFOB). The algorithm consists of two steps; first an evaluation of a nonlinear forward-backward map followed by a relaxed projection onto the separating hyperplane it constructs. The key of the method is the nonlinearity in the forward-backward step, where the backward part is based on a nonlinear resolvent construction that allows for the kernel in the resolvent to be a nonlinear single-valued maximal monotone operator. This generalizes the standard resolvent as well as the Bregman resolvent…
In this work, we propose a simple modification of the forward-backward splitting method for finding a zero in the sum of two monotone operators. Our method converges under the same assumptions as Tseng's forward-backward-forward method, namely, it does not require cocoercivity of the single-valued operator. Moreover, each iteration only requires one forward evaluation rather than two as is the case for Tseng's method. Variants of the method incorporating a linesearch, relaxation and inertia, or a structured three operator inclusion are also discussed.
We propose an extended forward-backward algorithm for approximating a zero of a maximal monotone operator which can be split as the extended sum of two maximal monotone operators. We establish the weak convergence in average of the sequence generated by the algorithm under assumptions similar to those used in classical forward-backward algorithms. This provides as a special case an algorithm for solving convex constrained minimization problems without qualification condition.
Motivated by a problem of optimal harvesting of natural resources, we study a control problem for Volterra type dynamics driven by time-changed Lévy noises, which are in general not Markovian. To exploit the nature of the noise, we make use of different kind of information flows within a maximum principle approach. For this we work with backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) with time-change and exploit the non-anticipating stochastic derivative introduced in [15]. We prove both a sufficient and necessary stochastic maximum principle.
The aim of the paper is to study an optimal control problem on infinite horizon for an infinite dimensional integro-differential equation with completely monotone kernelskernels, where we assume that the noise enters the system when we introduce a control. We start by reformulating the state equation into a semilinear evolution equation which can be treated by semigroup methods. The application to optimal control provide other interesting result and require a precise descriprion of the properties of the generated semigroup. The main tools consist in studying the differentiability of the forwar…
In this paper, we study the maximum principle for stochastic optimal control problems of forward-backward stochastic difference systems (FBSΔSs). Two types of FBSΔSs are investigated. The first one is described by a partially coupled forward-backward stochastic difference equation (FBSΔE) and the second one is described by a fully coupled FBSΔE. By adopting an appropriate representation of the product rule and an appropriate formulation of the backward stochastic difference equation (BSΔE), we deduce the adjoint difference equation. Finally, the maximum principle for this optimal control probl…
In this paper, we study the optimal control problem of a controlled time-symmetric forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equation with initial-terminal sate constraints. Applying the terminal perturbation method and Ekeland's variation principle, a necessary condition of the stochastic optimal control, i.e., stochastic maximum principle is derived. Applications to backward doubly stochastic linear-quadratic control models are investigated.
We propose a variable metric forward-backward splitting algorithm and prove its convergence in real Hilbert spaces. We then use this framework to derive primal-dual splitting algorithms for solving various classes of monotone inclusions in duality. Some of these algorithms are new even when specialized to the fixed metric case. Various applications are discussed.
In this work we propose a new splitting technique, namely Asymmetric Forward-Backward-Adjoint splitting, for solving monotone inclusions involving three terms, a maximally monotone, a cocoercive and a bounded linear operator. Classical operator splitting methods, like Douglas-Rachford and Forward-Backward splitting are special cases of our new algorithm. Asymmetric Forward-Backward-Adjoint splitting unifies, extends and sheds light on the connections between many seemingly unrelated primal-dual algorithms for solving structured convex optimization problems proposed in recent years. More import…
We study a stochastic differential game between two players, controlling a forward stochastic Volterra integral equation (FSVIE). Each player has to optimize his own performance functional which includes a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). The dynamics considered are driven by time-changed Lévy noises, with absolutely continuous time-change process. We prove a sufficient maximum principle to characterize Nash equilibria and the related optimal strategies. For this we use techniques of control under partial information, and the non-anticipating stochastic derivative. The zero-su…
We consider a problem of optimal control of an infinite horizon system governed by forward-backward stochastic differential equations with delay. Sufficient and necessary maximum principles for optimal control under partial information in infinite horizon are derived. We illustrate our results by an application to a problem of optimal consumption with respect to recursive utility from a cash flow with delay.
Tseng's forward-backward-forward algorithm is a valuable alternative for Korpelevich's extragradient method when solving variational inequalities over a convex and closed set governed by monotone and Lipschitz continuous operators, as it requires in every step only one projection operation. However, it is well-known that Korpelevich's method converges and can therefore be used also for solving variational inequalities governed by pseudo-monotone and Lipschitz continuous operators. In this paper, we first associate to a pseudo-monotone variational inequality a forward-backward-forward dynamical…
In this paper, we solve an open problem and obtain a general maximum principle for a stochastic optimal control problem where the control domain is an arbitrary non-empty set and all the coefficients (especially the diffusion term and the terminal cost) contain the control and state delay. In order to overcome the difficulty of dealing with the cross term of state and its delay in the variational inequality, we propose a new method: transform a delayed variational equation into a Volterra integral equation without delay, and introduce novel first-order, second-order adjoint equations via the b…
This article is concerned with an optimal control problem derived by mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with noisy observation, where the drift coefficients of the state equation and the observation equation are linear with respect to the state and its expectation. The control problem is different from the existing literature on optimal control for mean-field stochastic systems, and has more applications in mathematical finance, e.g., asset-liability management problem with recursive utility, systematic risk model. Using a backward separation method with a decompositi…
This paper presents three versions of maximum principle for a stochastic optimal control problem of Markov regime-switching forward-backward stochastic differential equations with jumps (FBSDEJs). A general sufficient maximum principle for optimal control for a system driven by a Markov regime-switching forward and backward jump-diffusion model is developed. After, an equivalent maximum principle is proved. Malliavin calculus is also employed to derive a general stochastic maximum principle. The latter does not require concavity of Hamiltonian. Applications of the stochastic maximum principle …
In this paper, we prove both necessary and sufficient maximum principles for infinite horizon discounted control problems of stochastic Volterra integral equations with finite delay and a convex control domain. The corresponding adjoint equation is a novel class of infinite horizon anticipated backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Our results can be applied to discounted control problems of stochastic delay differential equations and fractional stochastic delay differential equations. As an example, we consider a stochastic linear-quadratic regulator problem for a delayed fractional…
We introduce and investigate the convergence properties of an inertial forward-backward-forward splitting algorithm for approaching the set of zeros of the sum of a maximally monotone operator and a single-valued monotone and Lipschitzian operator. By making use of the product space approach, we expand it to the solving of inclusion problems involving mixtures of linearly composed and parallel-sum type monotone operators. We obtain in this way an inertial forward-backward-forward primal-dual splitting algorithm having as main characteristic the fact that in the iterative scheme all operators a…
This paper studies a new class of dynamic optimization problems of large-population (LP) system which consists of a large number of negligible and coupled agents. The most significant feature in our setup is the dynamics of individual agents follow the forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) in which the forward and backward states are coupled at the terminal time. This current paper is hence different to most existing large-population literature where the individual states are typically modeled by the SDEs including the forward state only. The associated mean-field linear-…
We present two distributed algorithms for the computation of a generalized Nash equilibrium in monotone games. The first algorithm follows from a forward-backward-forward operator splitting, while the second, which requires the pseudo-gradient mapping of the game to be cocoercive, follows from the forward-backward-half-forward operator splitting. Finally, we compare them with the distributed, preconditioned, forward-backward algorithm via numerical experiments.
In this paper we investigate a kind of optimal control problem of coupled forward-backward stochastic system with jumps whose cost functional is defined through a coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equation with Brownian motion and Poisson random measure. For this end, we first study the regularity of solutions for this kind of forward-backward stochastic differential equations. We obtain that the value function is a deterministic function and satisfies the dynamic programming principle for this kind of optimal control problem. Moreover, we prove that the value functions is a vis…
In this paper, we investigate infinite horizon jump-diffusion forward-backward stochastic differential equations under some monotonicity conditions. We establish an existence and uniqueness theorem, two stability results and a comparison theorem for solutions to such kind of equations. Then the theoretical results are applied to study a kind of infinite horizon backward stochastic linear-quadratic optimal control problems, and then differential game problems. The unique optimal controls for the control problems and the unique Nash equilibrium points for the game problems are obtained in closed…
In this paper we propose a new operator splitting algorithm for distributed Nash equilibrium seeking under stochastic uncertainty, featuring relaxation and inertial effects. Our work is inspired by recent deterministic operator splitting methods, designed for solving structured monotone inclusion problems. The algorithm is derived from a forward-backward-forward scheme for solving structured monotone inclusion problems featuring a Lipschitz continuous and monotone game operator. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first distributed (generalized) Nash equilibrium seeking algorithm featuri…
This paper concerns portfolio selection with multiple assets under rough covariance matrix. We investigate the continuous-time Markowitz mean-variance problem for a multivariate class of affine and quadratic Volterra models. In this incomplete non-Markovian and non-semimartingale market framework with unbounded random coefficients, the optimal portfolio strategy is expressed by means of a Riccati backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). In the case of affine Volterra models, we derive explicit solutions to this BSDE in terms of multi-dimensional Riccati-Volterra equations. This framew…
In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the fully coupled nonlinear forward-backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion. Assuming that the diffusion coefficient $σ$ is uniformly elliptic and all coefficients are differentiable, combining the results of fully nonlinear PDEs, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations.
In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution of a coupled Mean-Field Forward-Backward SDE system with Jumps. Then, we give an application in the field of storage problem in smart grids, studied in [4] in the case where the production of electricity is not predictable due, for example, to the changes in meteorological forecasts.
Decentralized partially observable Markov decision process (DEC-POMDP) models sequential decision making problems by a team of agents. Since the planning of DEC-POMDP can be interpreted as the maximum likelihood estimation for the latent variable model, DEC-POMDP can be solved by the EM algorithm. However, in EM for DEC-POMDP, the forward--backward algorithm needs to be calculated up to the infinite horizon, which impairs the computational efficiency. In this paper, we propose the Bellman EM algorithm (BEM) and the modified Bellman EM algorithm (MBEM) by introducing the forward and backward Be…
