We consider a stochastic control problem where the set of controls is not necessarily convex and the system is governed by a nonlinear backward stochastic differential equation. We establish necessary as well as sufficient conditions of optimality for two models. The first concerns the strict (classical) controls. The second is an extension of the first to relaxed controls, who are a measure valued processes.
We consider a stochastic control problem where the set of strict (classical) controls is not necessarily convex, and the system is governed by a nonlinear backward stochastic differential equation. By introducing a new approach, we establish necessary as well as sufficient conditions of optimality for two models. The first concerns the relaxed controls, who are measure-valued processes. The second is a particular case of the first and relates to strict control problems.
We consider a control problem where the system is driven by a decoupled as well as a coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equation. We prove the existence of an optimal control in the class of relaxed controls, which are measure-valued processes, generalizing the usual strict controls. The proof is based on some tightness properties and weak convergence on the space D of càdlàg functions, endowed with the Jakubowsky S-topology. Moreover, under some convexity assumptions, we show that the relaxed optimal control is realized by a strict control.
We consider a mean field game with common noise in which the diffusion coefficients may be controlled. We prove existence of a weak relaxed solution under some continuity conditions on the coefficients. We then show that, when there is no common noise, the solution of this mean field game is characterized by a McKean-Vlasov type second order backward SDE.
This paper is concerned with optimal control problems for systems governed by mean-field stochastic differential equation, in which the control enters both the drift and the diffusion coefficient. We prove that the relaxed state process, associated with measure valued controls, is governed by an orthogonal martingale measure rather that a Brownian motion. In particular, we show by a counter example that replacing the drift and diffusion coefficient by their relaxed counterparts does not define a true relaxed control problem. We establish the existence of an optimal relaxed control, which can b…
A local strict comparison theorem and some converse comparison theorems are proved for reflected backward stochastic differential equations under suitable conditions.
Mean field games are studied in the framework of controlled martingale problems, and general existence theorems are proven in which the equilibrium control is Markovian. The framework is flexible enough to include degenerate volatility, which may depend on both the control and the mean field. The objectives need not be strictly convex, and the mean field interactions considered are nonlocal and Wasserstein-continuous. When the volatility is nondegenerate, continuity assumptions may be weakened considerably. The proofs first use relaxed controls to establish existence. Then, using a convexity a…
Stochastic maximum principle of nonlinear controlled forward-backward systems, where the set of strict (classical) controls need not be convex and the diffusion coefficient depends explicitly on the variable control, is an open problem impossible to solve by the classical method of spike variation. In this paper, we introduce a new approach to solve this open problem and we establish necessary as well as sufficient conditions of optimality, in the form of global stochastic maximum principle, for two models. The first concerns the relaxed controls, who are a measure-valued processes. The second…
This paper is concerned with optimal control of systems driven by G-stochastic differential equations (G-SDEs), with controlled jump term. We study the relaxed problem, in which admissible controls are measurevalued processes and the state variable is governed by an G-SDE driven by a counting measure valued process called relaxed Poisson measure such that the compensator is a product measure. Under some conditions on the coefficients, using the G-chattering lemma, we show that the strict and the relaxed control problems have the same value function. Additionally, we derive a maximum principle …
We consider optimal control problems for systems governed by mean-field stochastic differential equations, where the control enters both the drift and the diffusion coefficient. We study the relaxed model, in which admissible controls are measure-valued processes and the relaxed state process is driven by an orthogonal martingale measure, whose covariance measure is the relaxed control. This is a natural extension of the original strict control problem, for which we prove the existence of an optimal control. Then, we derive optimality necessary conditions for this problem, in terms of two adjo…
Results on the existence, uniqueness and strict comparison for solutions to a BSDE driven by a multi-dimensional RCLL martingale are established. The goal is to develop a general multi-asset framework encompassing a wide spectrum of nonlinear financial models with jumps, including as particular cases the setups studied by Peng and Xu \cite{PX2009,PX2010} and Dumitrescu et al. \cite{DGQS2018} who dealt with BSDEs driven by a one-dimensional Brownian motion and a purely discontinuous martingale with a single jump.
We study a backward stochastic differential equation whose terminal condition is an integrable function of a local martingale and generator has bounded growth in $z$. When the local martingale is a strict local martingale, the BSDE admits at least two different solutions. Other than a solution whose first component is of class D, there exists another solution whose first component is not of class D and strictly dominates the class D solution. Both solutions are $\mathbb{L}^p$ integrable for any $0<p<1$. These two different BSDE solutions generate different viscosity solutions to the associated…
We consider in this paper, mixed relaxed-singular stochastic control problems, where the control variable has two components, the first being measure-valued and the second singular. The control domain is not necessarily convex and the system is governed by a nonlinear stochastic differential equation, in which the measure-valued part of the control enters both the drift and the diffusion coefficients. We establish necessary optimality conditions, of the Pontryagin maximum principle type, satisfied by an optimal relaxed-singular control, which exist under general conditions on the coefficients.…

We a controlled system driven by a coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) with a non degenerate diffusion matrix. The cost functional is defined by the solution of the controlled backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE), at the initial time. Our goal is to find an optimal control which minimizes the cost functional. The method consists to construct a sequence of approximating controlled systems for which we show the existence of a sequence of feedback optimal controls. By passing to the limit, we establish the existence of a relaxed optimal control to the ini…
We consider Mc Kean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (MVSDEs), which are SDEs where the drift and diffusion coefficients depend not only on the state of the unknown process but also on its probability distribution. This type of SDEs was studied in statistical physics and represents the natural setting for stochastic mean-field games. We will first discuss questions of existence and uniqueness of solutions under an Osgood type condition improving the well known Lipschitz case. Then we derive various stability properties with respect to initial data, coefficients and driving processes, g…
In this paper, a systematic investigation is carried out for the general solvability of multi-dimensional backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs) with the generators being super-linear in the adjustment variable $Z$. Two major situations are discussed: (i) When the free term is bounded with the dependence of the generator on $Z$ being of ``diagonally strictly'' quadratic growth and being sub-quadratically coupled with off-diagonal components; (ii) When the free term is unbounded having exponential moments of arbitrary order with the dependence of the generator on $Z$ being dia…
This paper is concerned with the relationship between forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs, for short) and a system of (non-local in time) path dependent partial differential equations (PPDEs, for short). Due to the nature of Volterra type equations, the usual flow property (or semigroup property) does not hold. Inspired by Viens-Zhang \cite{Viens-Zhang-2019} and Wang-Yong \cite{Wang-Yong-2019}, auxiliary processes are introduced so that the flow property of adapted solutions to the FBSVIEs is recovered in a suitable sense, and thus the functional Itô's formula is a…
We consider a stochastic control problem where the set of strict (classical) controls is not necessarily convex and the the variable control has two components, the first being absolutely continuous and the second singular. The system is governed by a nonlinear stochastic differential equation, in which the absolutely continuous component of the control enters both the drift and the diffusion coefficients. By introducing a new approach, we establish necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for two models. The first concerns the relaxed-singular controls, who are a pair of processes whose…
We consider empirical processes generated by strictly stationary sequences of associated random variables. S. Louhichi established an invariance principle for such processes, assuming that the covariance function decays rapidly enough. We show that under certain conditions imposed on the pairwise distributions of the random variables in question the restrictions on the rate of decay of the covariance function can be relaxed.
In this paper, we consider a numéraire-based utility maximization problem under constant proportional transaction costs and random endowment. Assuming that the agent cannot short sell assets and is endowed with a strictly positive contingent claim, a primal optimizer of this utility maximization problem exists. Moreover, we observe that the original market with transaction costs can be replaced by a frictionless shadow market that yields the same optimality. On the other hand, we present an example to show that in some case when these constraints are relaxed, the existence of shadow prices is …
This paper is devoted to a general solvability of a multi-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) of a diagonally quadratic generator $g(t,y,z)$, by relaxing the assumptions of \citet{HuTang2016SPA} on the generator and terminal value. More precisely, the generator $g(t,y,z)$ can have more general growth and continuity in $y$ in the local solution; while in the global solution, the generator $g(t,y,z)$ can have a skew sub-quadratic but in addition "strictly and diagonally" quadratic growth in the second unknown variable $z$, or the terminal value can be unbounded but the g…
