In this Note, assuming that the generator is uniform Lipschitz in the unknown variables, we relate the solution of a one dimensional backward stochastic differential equation with the value process of a stochastic differential game. Under a domination condition, a filtration-consistent evaluations is also related to a stochastic differential game. This relation comes out of a min-max representation for uniform Lipschitz functions as affine functions. The extension to reflected backward stochastic differential equations is also included.
We consider a mean field game with common noise in which the diffusion coefficients may be controlled. We prove existence of a weak relaxed solution under some continuity conditions on the coefficients. We then show that, when there is no common noise, the solution of this mean field game is characterized by a McKean-Vlasov type second order backward SDE.
This paper is devoted to a stochastic differential game of functional forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE, for short). The associated upper and lower value functions of the stochastic differential game are defined by controlled functional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short). Applying the Girsanov transformation method introduced by Buckdahn and Li [1], the upper and the lower value functions are shown to be deterministic. We also generalize the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs (HJBI, for short) equations to the path-dependent ones. By establishing t…
This paper studies a new class of dynamic optimization problems of large-population (LP) system which consists of a large number of negligible and coupled agents. The most significant feature in our setup is the dynamics of individual agents follow the forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) in which the forward and backward states are coupled at the terminal time. This current paper is hence different to most existing large-population literature where the individual states are typically modeled by the SDEs including the forward state only. The associated mean-field linear-…
In this paper, we study Nash equilibrium payoffs for nonzero-sum stochastic differential games via the theory of backward stochastic differential equations. We obtain an existence theorem and a characterization theorem of Nash equilibrium payoffs for nonzero-sum stochastic differential games with nonlinear cost functionals defined with the help of a doubly controlled backward stochastic differential equation. Our results extend former ones by Buckdahn, Cardaliaguet and Rainer (2004) and are based on a backward stochastic differential equation approach.
This paper is concerned with the switching game of a one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). The associated Bellman-Isaacs equation is a system of matrix-valued BSDEs living in a special unbounded convex domain with reflection on the boundary along an oblique direction. In this paper, we show the existence of an adapted solution to this system of BSDEs with oblique reflection by the penalization method, the monotone convergence, and the a priori estimates.
In this paper, we study fully coupled nonlocal second order quasilinear forward-backward partial differential equations (FBPDEs), which arise from solution of the mean field game (MFG) suggested by Lasry and Lions [Japan. J. Math. 2 (2007), p. 237 (Remark iv)]. We show the existence of solutions $(u,m)\in C^{1+\frac{1}{4},2+\frac{1}{2}}([0,T]\times\mathbb{R}^n)\times C^{\frac{1}{2}}([0,T],\mathcal{P}_1(\mathbb{R}^n))$, and also the uniqueness under an additional monotonicity condition. Then, we improve the regularity of our weak solution $m$ to get a classical solution under appropriate regula…
In this paper, we study graphon mean field games using a system of forward-backward stochastic differential equations. We establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions under two different assumptions and prove the stability with respect to the interacting graphons which are necessary to show propagation of chaos results. As an application of propagation of chaos, we prove the convergence of n-player game Nash equilibrium for a general model, which is new in the theory of graphon mean field games.
In this paper we study a zero-sum switching game and its verification theorems expressed in terms of either a system of Reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (RBSDEs in short) with bilateral interconnected obstacles or a system of parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs in short) with bilateral interconnected obstacles as well. We show that each one of the systems has a unique solution. Then we show that the game has a value.
In this paper, we investigate infinite horizon jump-diffusion forward-backward stochastic differential equations under some monotonicity conditions. We establish an existence and uniqueness theorem, two stability results and a comparison theorem for solutions to such kind of equations. Then the theoretical results are applied to study a kind of infinite horizon backward stochastic linear-quadratic optimal control problems, and then differential game problems. The unique optimal controls for the control problems and the unique Nash equilibrium points for the game problems are obtained in closed…
The aim of this short note is to fill in a gap in our earlier paper [16] on 2BSDEs with reflections, and to explain how to correct the subsequent results in the second paper [15]. We also provide more insight on the properties of 2RBSDEs, in the light of the recent contributions [13, 23] in the so--called $G-$framework.
We study a general class of fully coupled backward-forward stochastic differential equations of mean-field type (MF-BFSDE). We derive existence and uniqueness results for such a system under weak monotonicity assumptions and without the non-degeneracy condition on the forward equation. This is achieved by suggesting an implicit approximation scheme that is shown to converge to the solution of the system of MF-BFSDE. We apply these results to derive an explicit form of open-loop Nash equilibrium strategies for nonzero sum mean-field linear-quadratic stochastic differential games with random coe…
In this paper, we consider a system of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) with monotone functionals. We show the existence and uniqueness of such a system by the method of continuation similarly to Peng and Wu (1999) for classical FBSDEs and obtain estimates under conditional probability. As applications, we prove the well-posedness result for a mean field FBSDE with conditional law and show the existence of a decoupling function. In addition, we show that mean field games with common noise are uniquely solvable under a linear controlled process with convex and weak-mo…
This paper is concerned with a backward-forward stochastic differential equation (BFSDE) system, in which a large number of negligible agents are coupled in their dynamics via state average. Here some BSDE is introduced as the dynamics of major player, while dynamics of minor players are described by SDEs. Some auxiliary mean-field SDEs (MFSDEs) and a $3\times2$ mixed forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) system are considered and analyzed instead of involving the fixed-point analysis as in other mean-field games. We also derive the decentralized strategies which are shown …

In this paper, we investigate Nash equilibrium payoffs for nonzero-sum stochastic differential games with reflection. We obtain an existence theorem and a characterization theorem of Nash equilibrium payoffs for nonzero-sum stochastic differential games with nonlinear cost functionals defined by doubly controlled reflected backward stochastic differential equations.
Within a Markovian complete financial market, we consider the problem of hedging a Bermudan option with a given probability. Using stochastic target and duality arguments, we derive a backward numerical scheme for the Fenchel transform of the pricing function. This algorithm is similar to the usual American backward induction, except that it requires two additional Fenchel transformations at each exercise date. We provide numerical illustrations.
This paper is related to nonzero-sum stochastic differential games in the Markovian framework. We show existence of a Nash equilibrium point for the game when the drift is no longer bounded and only satisfies a linear growth condition. The main tool is the notion of backward stochastic differential equations which, in our case, are multidimensional with continuous coefficient and stochastic linear growth.
This paper studies multidimensional mean field games with common noise and the related system of McKean-Vlasov forward-backward stochastic differential equations deriving from the stochastic maximum principle. We first propose some structural conditions which are related to the submodularity of the underlying mean field game and are a sort of opposite version of the well known Lasry-Lions monotonicity. By reformulating the representative player minimization problem via the stochastic maximum principle, the submodularity conditions allow to prove comparison principles for the forward-backward s…
This work considers stochastic differential games with a large number of players, whose costs and dynamics interact through the empirical distribution of both their states and their controls. We develop a new framework to prove convergence of finite-player games to the asymptotic mean field game. Our approach is based on the concept of propagation of chaos for forward and backward weakly interacting particles which we investigate by stochastic analysis methods, and which appear to be of independent interest. These propagation of chaos arguments allow to derive moment and concentration bounds f…
We study a novel general class of multidimensional type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Toward this goal, we introduce an infinite dimensional system of standard backward SDEs and establish its well-posedness, and we show that it is equivalent to that of a type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equation. We also establish a representation formula in terms of non-linear semilinear partial differential equation of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman type. As an application, we consider the study of time-inconsistent stochastic control from a game-theoretic point of view. We show the…
We study existence, uniqueness, semi-group property, and a priori estimates for solutions for backward parabolic Ito equations in domains with boundary. We study also duality between forward and backward equations. The semi-group for backward equations is established in the form of some anti-causality. The novelty is that the semi-group property involves the diffusion term that is a part of the solution.
We study a stochastic differential game between two players, controlling a forward stochastic Volterra integral equation (FSVIE). Each player has to optimize his own performance functional which includes a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). The dynamics considered are driven by time-changed Lévy noises, with absolutely continuous time-change process. We prove a sufficient maximum principle to characterize Nash equilibria and the related optimal strategies. For this we use techniques of control under partial information, and the non-anticipating stochastic derivative. The zero-su…
The purpose of this note is to provide an existence result for the solution of fully coupled Forward Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDEs) of the mean field type. These equations occur in the study of mean field games and the optimal control of dynamics of the McKean Vlasov type.
We introduce a class of abstract nonlinear fractional pseudo-differential equations in Banach spaces that includes both the Mc-Kean-Vlasov-type equations describing nonlinear Markov processes and the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman(HJB)-Isaacs equation of stochastic control and games thus allowing for a unified analysis of these equations. This leads to an effective theory of coupled forward-backward systems (forward McKean-Vlasov evolution and backward HJB-Isaacs evolution) that are central to the modern theory of mean-field games.
The purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed probabilistic analysis of the optimal control of nonlinear stochastic dynamical systems of the McKean Vlasov type. Motivated by the recent interest in mean field games, we highlight the connection and the differences between the two sets of problems. We prove a new version of the stochastic maximum principle and give sufficient conditions for existence of an optimal control. We also provide examples for which our sufficient conditions for existence of an optimal solution are satisfied. Finally we show that our solution to the control problem p…
This paper is devoted to path-dependent kinetics equations arising, in particular, from the analysis of the coupled backward - forward systems of equations of mean field games. We present local well-posedness, global existence and some regularity results for these equations.

We study optimal stochastic control problem for non-Markovian stochastic differential equations (SDEs) where the drift, diffusion coefficients, and gain functionals are path-dependent, and importantly we do not make any ellipticity assumption on the SDE. We develop a controls randomization approach, and prove that the value function can be reformulated under a family of dominated measures on an enlarged filtered probability space. This value function is then characterized by a backward SDE with nonpositive jumps under a single probability measure, which can be viewed as a path-dependent versio…
We discuss and compare two methods of investigations for the asymptotic regime of stochastic differential games with a finite number of players as the number of players tends to the infinity. These two methods differ in the order in which optimization and passage to the limit are performed. When optimizing first, the asymptotic problem is usually referred to as a mean-field game. Otherwise, it reads as an optimization problem over controlled dynamics of McKean-Vlasov type. Both problems lead to the analysis of forward-backward stochastic differential equations, the coefficients of which depend…
This paper formulates and studies a linear quadratic (LQ for short) game problem governed by linear stochastic Volterra integral equation. Sufficient and necessary condition of the existence of saddle points for this problem are derived. As a consequence we solve the problems left by Chen and Yong in [3]. Firstly, in our framework, the term GX^2(T) is allowed to be appear in the cost functional and the coefficients are allowed to be random. Secondly we study the unique solvability for certain coupled forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs for short) involved in this g…
In this paper, we want to investigate some kind of Dynkin's game under ambiguity which is represented by Backward Stochastic Differential Equation (shortly BSDE) with standard generator function g(t, y, z). Under regular assumptions, a pair of saddle point can be obtained and the existence of the value function follows. The constrained case is also treated in this paper.
We study a toy model of linear-quadratic mean field game with delay. We "lift" the delayed dynamic into an infinite dimensional space, and recast the mean field game system which is made of a forward Kolmogorov equation and a backward Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. We identify the corresponding master equation. A solution to this master equation is computed, and we show that it provides an approximation to a Nash equilibrium of the finite player game.
We introduce a new class of reflected backward stochastic differential equations with two càdlàg barriers, which need not satisfy any separation conditions. For that reason, in general, the solutions are not semimartingales. We prove existence, uniqueness and approximation results for solutions of equations defined on general filtered probability spaces. Applications to Dynkin games and variational inequalities, both stationary and evolutionary, are given.
By the methods of probability and duality technique, we give some comparison theorems for the solutions of infinite horizon forward-backwad stochastic differential equations.
We analyze a zero-sum stochastic differential game between two competing players who can choose unbounded controls. The payoffs of the game are defined through backward stochastic differential equations. We prove that each player's priority value satisfies a weak dynamic programming principle and thus solves the associated fully non-linear partial differential equation in the viscosity sense.
We consider a two-player zero-sum stochastic differential game in which one of the players has a private information on the game. Both players observe each other, so that the non-informed player can try to guess his missing information. Our aim is to quantify the amount of information the informed player has to reveal in order to play optimally: to do so, we show that the value function of this zero-sum game can be rewritten as a minimization problem over some martingale measures with a payoff given by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation.
This paper makes a small step towards a non-stochastic version of superhedging duality relations in the case of one traded security with a continuous price path. Namely, we prove the coincidence of game-theoretic and measure-theoretic expectation for lower semicontinuous positive functionals. We consider a new broad definition of game-theoretic probability, leaving the older narrower definitions for future work.
A new class of multi-player competitive stochastic games in discrete-time with an affine specification of the redistribution of payoffs at exercise is proposed and examined. Our games cover as a very special case the classic two-person stochastic stopping games introduced by Dynkin (1969). We first extend to the case of a single-period deterministic affine game the results from Guo and Rutkowski (2012,2014) where a particular subclass of competitive stopping games was studied. We identify conditions under which optimal equilibria and value for a multi-player competitive game with affine redist…
We study the well solvability of nonlinear backward stochastic evolutionary equations driven by a space-time white noise. We first establish a novel a priori estimate for solution of linear backward stochastic evolutionary equations, and then give an existence and uniqueness result for nonlinear backward stochastic evolutionary equations. A dual argument plays a crucial role in the proof of these results. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the existence and uniqueness result.
We generalize the primal-dual methodology, which is popular in the pricing of early-exercise options, to a backward dynamic programming equation associated with time discretization schemes of (reflected) backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs). Taking as an input some approximate solution of the backward dynamic program, which was pre-computed, e.g., by least-squares Monte Carlo, our methodology allows to construct a confidence interval for the unknown true solution of the time discretized (reflected) BSDE at time 0. We numerically demonstrate the practical applicability of our meth…
In this paper we study zero-sum two-player stochastic differential games with the help of theory of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs). At the one hand we generalize the results of the pioneer work of Fleming and Souganidis by considering cost functionals defined by controlled BSDEs and by allowing the admissible control processes to depend on events occurring before the beginning of the game (which implies that the cost functionals become random variables), on the other hand the application of BSDE methods, in particular that of the notion of stochastic "backward semigroups" i…
Mathematical mean-field approaches have been used in many fields, not only in Physics and Chemistry, but also recently in Finance, Economics, and Game Theory. In this paper we will study a new special mean-field problem in a purely probabilistic method, to characterize its limit which is the solution of mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with reflections. On the other hand, we will prove that this type of reflected mean-field BSDEs can also be obtained as the limit equation of the mean-field BSDEs by penalization method. Finally, we give the probabilistic interpretat…
