A massive rigid particle model in $(3+1)$ dimensions is reformulated in terms of twistors. Beginning with a first-order Lagrangian, we establish a twistor representation of the Lagrangian for a massive particle with rigidity. The twistorial Lagrangian derived in this way remains invariant under a local $U(1) \times U(1)$ transformation of the twistor and other relevant variables. Considering this fact, we carry out a partial gauge-fixing so as to make our analysis simple and clear. We develop the canonical Hamiltonian formalism based on the gauge-fixed Lagrangian and perform the canonical quantization procedure of the Hamiltonian system. Also, we obtain an arbitrary-rank massive spinor field in $(3+1)$ dimensions via the Penrose transform of a twistor function defined in the quantization procedure. Then we prove, in a twistorial fashion, that the spin quantum number of a massive particle with rigidity can take only non-negative integer values, which result is in agreement with the one shown earlier by Plyushchay. Interestingly, the mass of the spinor field is determined depending on the spin quantum number.
We construct massless infinite spin irreducible representations of the six-dimensional Poincaré group in the space of fields depending on twistor variables. It is shown that the massless infinite spin representation is realized on the two-twistor fields. We present a full set of equations of motion for two-twistor fields represented by the totally symmetric $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ rank $2s$ two-twistor spin-tensor and show that they carry massless infinite spin representations. A field twistor transform is constructed and infinite spin fields are found in the space-time formulation with an additional…
Using known relation between $SU(2,2|4)$ supertwistors and $SU(2)$ bosonic and fermionic oscillators we identify the physical states of quantized massless $AdS_5\times S^5$ superparticle in supertwistor formulation and discuss how they fit into the spectrum of fluctuations of IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$ superbackground.
The classical double copy relating exact solutions of biadjoint scalar, gauge and gravity theories continues to receive widespread attention. Recently, a derivation of the exact classical double copy was presented, using ideas from twistor theory, in which spacetime fields are mapped to Cech cohomology classes in twistor space. A puzzle remains, however, in how to interpret the twistor double copy, in that it relies on somehow picking special representatives of each cohomology class. In this paper, we provide two alternative formulations of the twistor double copy using the more widely-used la…
We present a novel twistor formulation of the ten-dimensional massless superparticle. This formulation is based on the introduction of pure spinor variables through a field redefinition of another model for the superparticle, and in the new description we find that the super-Pauli-Lubanski three-form naturally arises as a constraint. Quantization is studied in detail for both models and they are shown to correctly describe the $D = 10$ super-Yang-Mills states.
We give a brief review of the twistor string approach to supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories with an emphasis on the different formulations of (super)string models in supertwistor space and their superspace form. We discuss the classical equivalence among the Siegel closed twistor string and the Lorentz harmonics formulation of the (N=4) tensionless superstring, and notice the possible relation of the twistor string to the D=10 Green-Schwarz superstring action, as well as to models in the enlarged, tensorial superspaces that are relevant in higher spin theories.
Recently, we introduced the "Newman-Penrose map," a novel correspondence between a certain class of solutions of Einstein's equations and self-dual solutions of the vacuum Maxwell equations, which we showed was closely related to the classical double copy. Here, we give an alternative definition of this correspondence in terms of quantities that are defined naturally on twistor space, and a shear-free null geodesic congruence on Minkowski space whose twistorial character is articulated by the Kerr theorem. The advantage of this reformulation is that it is purely geometrical in nature, being ma…

We prove the equivalence between two traditional approaches to the classical mechanics of a massive spinning particle in special relativity. One is the spherical top model of Hanson and Regge, recast in a Hamiltonian formulation with improved treatment of covariant spin constraints. The other is the massive twistor model, slightly generalized to incorporate the Regge trajectory relating the mass to the total spin angular momentum. We establish the equivalence by computing the Dirac brackets of the physical phase space carrying three translation and three rotation degrees of freedom. Lorentz co…
