We prove that the problem of constructing biharmonic conformal maps on a $4$-dimensional Einstein manifold reduces to a Yamabe-type equation. This allows us to construct an infinite family of examples on the Euclidean 4-sphere. In addition, we characterize all solutions on Euclidean 4-space and show that there exists at least one non-constant proper biharmonic conformal map from any closed Einstein 4-manifold of negative Ricci curvature.
This note reviews some of the recent work on biharmonic conformal maps (see \cite{OC}, Chapter 11, for a detailed survey). It will be focused on biharmonic conformal immersions and biharmonic conformal maps between manifolds of the same dimension and their links to isoparametric functions and Yamabe type equations, though biharmonic morphisms (maps that preserve solutions of bi-Laplace equations), generalized harmonic morphisms (maps that pull back germs of harmonic functions to germs of biharmonic functions), and biharmonic conformal and Riemannian submersions will also be touched.
The goal of this paper is to study conformal Yamabe soliton and $*$-Yamabe soliton, whose potential vector field is torse forming. Here, we have characterized conformal Yamabe soliton admitting potential vector field as torse forming with respect to Riemannian connection, semi-symmetric metric connection and projective semi-symmetric connection on Riemannian manifold. We have also shown the nature of $*$-Yamabe soliton with torse forming vector field on Riemannian manifold admitting Riemannian connection. Lastly we have developed an example to corroborate some theorems regarding Riemannian con…
The present paper is to deliberate the geometric composition of a perfect fluid spacetime with torse-forming vector field ξ in connection with conformal Ricci-Yamabe metric and conformal η-Ricci-Yamabe metric. Here we have delineated the conditions for conformal Ricci-Yamabe soliton to be expanding, steady, or shrinking. Later, we have acquired Laplace equation from conformal η-Ricci-Yamabe soliton equation when the potential vector field ξ of the soliton is of gradient type. Lastly, we have designated perfect fluid with Robertson-Walker spacetime and some applications of physics and gravity.
In this paper, we present some new properties for p-biharmonic hypersurfaces in Riemannian manifold. We also characterize the p-biharmonic submanifolds in an Einstein space. We construct a new example of proper p-biharmonic hypersurfaces. We present some open problems.
We give a characterization of conformal classes realizing a compact manifold's Yamabe invariant. This characterization is the analogue of an observation of Nadirashvili for metrics realizing the maximal first eigenvalue, and of Fraser and Schoen for metrics realizing the maximal first Steklov eigenvalue.
In this note we prove the existence of infinitely many positive conformal classes on $S^7$ which cannot be the conformal infinity of a Poincaré-Einstein metric on the ball $B^8$. We also prove a sharp inequality between the Yamabe invariant of the conformal infinity and the Yamabe invariant of the interior (after a suitable compactification).
We give a complete classification of local and global conformal biharmonic maps between any two space forms by proving that a conformal map between two space forms is proper biharmonic if and only if the dimension is 4, the domain is flat, and it is a restriction of a Möbius transformation. We also show that proper k-polyharmonic conformal maps between Euclidean spaces exist if and only if the dimension is 2k and they are precisely the restrictions of Möbius transformations. This provides infinitely many simple examples of proper k-polyharmonic maps with nice geometric structure.
We continue our study [Ou4] of f-biharmonic maps and f-biharmonic submanifolds by exploring the applications of f-biharmonic maps and the relationships among biharmonicity, f-biharmonicity and conformality of maps between Riemannian manifolds. We are able to characterize harmonic maps and minimal submanifolds by using the concept of f-biharmonic maps and prove that the set of all f-biharmonic maps from 2-dimensional domain is invariant under the conformal change of the metric on the domain. We give an improved equation for f-biharmonic hypersurfaces and use it to prove some rigidity theorems a…
Let (M, g) be an (n + 1)-dimensional asymptotically locally hyperbolic (ALH) manifold with a conformal compactification whose conformal infinity is ($\partial$M, [$γ$]). We will first observe that Ch(M, g) $\le$ n, where Ch(M, g) is the Cheeger constant of M. We then prove that, if the Ricci curvature of M is bounded from below by --n and its scalar curvature approaches --n(n+1) fast enough at infinity, then Ch(M, g) = n if and only Y($\partial$M, [$γ$]) $\ge$ 0, where Y($\partial$M, [$γ$]) denotes the Yamabe invariant of the conformal infinity. This gives an answer to a question raised by J. …
A conformal geometry determines a distinguished, potentially singular, variant of the usual Yamabe problem, where the conformal factor can change sign. When a smooth solution does change sign, its zero locus is a smoothly embedded separating hypersurface that, in dimension three, is necessarily a Willmore energy minimiser or, in higher dimensions, satisfies a conformally invariant analog of the Willmore equation. In any case the zero locus is critical for a conformal functional that generalises the total Q-curvature by including extrinsic data. These observations lead to some interesting globa…
Harmonic morphisms are maps between Riemannian manifolds that pull back harmonic functions to harmonic functions. These maps are characterized as horizontally weakly conformal harmonic maps and they have many interesting links and applications to several areas in mathematics (see the book by Baird and Wood for details). In this paper, we study generalized harmonic morphisms which are defined to be maps between Riemannian manifolds that pull back harmonic functions to biharmonic functions. We obtain some characterizations of generalized harmonic morphisms into a Euclidean space and give two met…

The purpose of this paper is to study gradient $k$-Yamabe solitons conformal to pseudo-Euclidean space. We characterize all such solitons invariant under the action of an $(n-1)$-dimensional translation group. For rotational invariant solutions, we provide the classification of solitons with null curvatures. As an application, we construct infinitely many explicit examples of geodesically complete steady gradient $k$-Yamabe solitons conformal to the Lorentzian space.
We define a new formal Riemannian metric on a conformal class in the context of the $v_{\frac{n}{2}}$-Yamabe problem. Our construction leads to a new variational characterization and a new parabolic flow approach to this problem. Moreover, this variational framework suggests that solutions to this problem are unique in a given conformal class.
In this paper, we use less topological restrictions and more geometric and analytic conditions to obtain some sufficient conditions on Yamabe solitons such that their metrics are Yamabe metrics, that is, metrics of constant scalar curvature. More precisely, we use properties of conformal vector fields to find several sufficient conditions on the soliton vector fields of Yamabe solitons under which their metrics are of Yamabe metrics.
We prove that a minimizer of the Yamabe functional does not exist for a sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$ of dimension $n \geq 3$, endowed with a standard edge-cone spherical metric of cone angle greater than or equal to $4π$, along a great circle of codimension two. When the cone angle along the singularity is smaller than $2π$, the corresponding metric is known to be a Yamabe metric, and we show that all Yamabe metrics in its conformal class are obtained from it by constant multiples and conformal diffeomorphisms preserving the singular set.
We prove global existence of instantaneously complete Yamabe flows on hyperbolic space of arbitrary dimension $m\geq3$ starting from any smooth, conformally hyperbolic initial metric. We do not require initial completeness or curvature bounds. With the same methods, we show rigidity of hyperbolic space under the Yamabe flow.
In this paper, we consider generalized Yamabe solitons which include many notions, such as Yamabe solitons, almost Yamabe solitons, h-almost Yamabe solitons, gradient k-Yamabe solitons and conformal gradient solitons. We completely classify the generalized Yamabe solitons on hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces arisen from the position vector field.
We study biharmonic maps and f-biharmonic maps from a round sphere $(S^2, g_0)$, the latter maps are equivalent to biharmonic maps from Riemann spheres $(S^2, f^{-1}g_0)$. We proved that for rotationally symmetric maps between rotationally symmetric spaces, both biharmonicity and f-biharmonicity reduce to a 2nd order linear ordinary differential equation. As applications, we give a method to produce biharmonic maps and f-biharmonic maps from given biharmonic maps and we construct many examples of biharmonic and f-biharmonic maps from a round sphere $S^2$ and between two round spheres. Our exam…
In this paper the rate relations of Riemann, conformal, conharmonic and Weyl curvature tensors under Yamabe flow are studied. Modified Riemann extensions under Yamabe flow is discussed. The paper ends with remarks on some standard metrics.
We define a new formal Riemannian metric on a conformal classes of four-manifolds in the context of the $σ_2$-Yamabe problem. Exploiting this new variational structure we show that solutions are unique unless the manifold is conformally equivalent to the round sphere.
We prove that a nontrivial complete generalized quasi Yamabe gradient soliton (M; g) must be a quasi Yamabe gradient soliton on each connected component of M and that a nontrivial complete locally conformally at generalized quasi Yamabe gradient soliton has a special warped product structure.
We consider, in the Euclidean setting, a conformal Yamabe-type equation related to a potential generalization of the classical constant scalar curvature problem and which naturally arises in the study of Ricci solitons structures. We prove existence and nonexistence results, focusing on the radial case, under some general hypothesis on the potential.
On a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold $(M,þ)$, we consider the CR Yamabe constant of its infinite conformal covering. By using the maximum principles, we then prove a uniqueness theorem for the CR Yamabe flow on a complete noncompact CR manifold. Finally we obtain some properties of the CR Yamabe soliton on complete noncompact CR manifolds.
We apply scattering theory on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds to singular Yamabe metrics, applying the results to the study of the conformal geometry of compact manifolds with boundary. In particular, we define extrinsic versions of the conformally invariant powers of the Laplacian, or GJMS operators, on the boundary of any such manifold, along with associated extrinsic Q-curvatures. We use the existence and uniqueness of a singular Yamabe metric to define also nonlocal extrinsic fractional GJMS operators on the boundary, and draw other global conclusions about the scattering operator, inc…
The Yamabe problem in compact closed Riemannian manifolds is concerned with finding a metric with constant scalar curvature in the conformal class of a given metric. This problem was solved by the combined work of Yamabe, Trudinger, Aubin, and Schoen. In particular, Aubin solved the case when the Riemannian manifold is compact, is nonlocally conformally flat and has a dimension equal to or greater than $6$. In $2015$, Case considered a Yamabe-type problem in the setting of smooth measure space in manifolds and for a parameter $m$, which generalizes the original Yamabe problem when $m=0$. Addit…
For an asymptotically Poincare-Einstein manifold with a lower Ricci curvature bound, we establish a sharp inequality relating the type II Yamabe invariant of the interior and the Yamabe invariant of its conformal infinity
Let $(X, g^+)$ be an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold and $(M, [\hat{h}])$ its conformal infinity. Our primary aim in this paper is to introduce the prescribed fractional scalar curvature problem on $M$ and provide solutions under various geometric conditions on $X$ and $M$. We also obtain the existence results for the fractional Yamabe problem in the endpoint case, e.g., $n = 3$, $γ= 1/2$ and $M$ is non-umbilic, etc. Every solution we find turns out to be smooth on $M$.
