We consider the one-parameter generalization $S^4_q$ of 4-sphere with a conical singularity due to identification $τ=τ+ 2 πq$ in one isometric angle. We compute the value of the spectral zeta-function at zero $z(q) = ζ(0, q)$ that controls the coefficient of the logarithmic UV divergence of the one-loop partition function on $S^4_q$. While the value of the conformal anomaly a-coefficient is proportional to $z(1)$, we argue that in general the second $c = C_T$ anomaly coefficient is related to a particular combination of the second and first derivatives of $z(q) $ at $q=1$. The universality of this relation for $C_T$ is supported also by examples in 6 and 2 dimensions. We use it to compute the c-coefficient for conformal higher spins finding that it coincides with the "$r=-1$" value of the one-parameter Ansatz suggested in arXiv:1309.0785. Like the sums of $a_s$ and $c_s$ coefficients, the regularized sum of $z_s(q)$ over the whole tower of conformal higher spins $s=1,2, ...$ is found to vanish, implying UV finiteness on $S^4_q$ and thus also the vanishing of the associated Re'nyi entropy. Similar conclusions are found to apply to the standard 2-derivative massless higher spin tower. We also present an independent computation of the full set of conformal anomaly coefficients of the 6d Weyl graviton theory defined by a particular combination of the three 6d Weyl invariants that has a (2,0) supersymmetric extension.
We exactly compute the partition function for $U(2)_k\times U(2)_{-k}$ ABJM theory on $\mathbb S^3$ deformed by mass $m$ and Fayet-Iliopoulos parameter $ζ$. For $k=1,2$, the partition function has an infinite number of Lee-Yang zeros. For general $k$, in the decompactification limit the theory exhibits a quantum (first-order) phase transition at $m=2ζ$.
We construct the ($β$-deformed) partition function hierarchies with $W$-representations. Based on the $W$-representations, we analyze the superintegrability property and derive their character expansions with respect to the Schur functions and Jack polynomials, respectively. Some well known superintegrable matrix models such as the Gaussian hermitian one-matrix model (in the external field), $N\times N$ complex matrix model, $β$-deformed Gaussian hermitian and rectangular complex matrix models are contained in the constructed hierarchies.
We demonstrate the presence of modular properties in partition functions of $T\bar{T}$ deformed conformal field theories. These properties are verified explicitly for the deformed free boson. The modular features facilitate a derivation of the asymptotic density of states in these theories, which turns out to interpolate between Cardy and Hagedorn behaviours. We also point out a sub-sector of the spectrum that remains undeformed under the $T\bar{T}$ flow. Finally, we comment on the deformation of the CFT vacuum character and its implications for the holographic dual.
3d N=2 partition functions on the squashed three-sphere and on the twisted product S2xS1 have been shown to factorize into sums of squares of solid tori partition functions, the so-called holomorphic blocks. The same set of holomorphic blocks realizes squashed three-sphere and S2xS1 partition functions but the two cases involve different inner products, the S-pairing and the id-pairing respectively. We define a class of q-deformed CFT correlators where conformal blocks are controlled by a deformation of Virasoro symmetry and are paired by S-pairing and id-pairing respectively. Applying the boo…
We study Penner type matrix models in relation with the Nekrasov partition function of four dimensional \mathcal{N}=2, SU(2) supersymmetric gauge theories with N_F=2,3 and 4. By evaluating the resolvent using the loop equation for general β, we explicitly construct the first half-genus correction to the free energy and demonstrate the result coincides with the corresponding Nekrasov partition function with general Ω-background, including higher instanton contributions after modifying the relation of the Coulomb branch parameter with the filling fraction. Our approach complements the proof usin…
We study the phase diagram of $q$-deformed Yang-Mills theory on $S^2$ at non-zero $θ$-angle using the exact partition function at finite $N$. By evaluating the exact partition function numerically, we find evidence for the existence of a series of phase transitions at non-zero $θ$-angle as conjectured in [hep-th/0509004].

We count the supersymmetric vacua of mass-deformed N=6 U(N)xU(N) Chern-Simons-matter theory by calculating the Witten index. When the Chern-Simons level k is 1, our result perfectly agrees with that from the gravity dual, given by partitions of N. For general k, our index generalizes partitions of N, including additional degrees. We also comment on non-relativistic superconformal theories constructed from this model.
We study families of two dimensional quantum field theories, labeled by a dimensionful parameter $μ$, that contain a holomorphic conserved $U(1)$ current $J(z)$. We assume that these theories can be consistently defined on a torus, so their partition sum, with a chemical potential for the charge that couples to $J$, is modular covariant. We further require that in these theories, the energy of a state at finite $μ$ is a function only of $μ$, and of the energy, momentum and charge of the corresponding state at $μ=0$, where the theory becomes conformal. We show that under these conditions, the t…
In this paper, we continue the study of $T\bar{T}$ deformation in $d=1$ quantum mechanical systems and propose possible analogues of $J\bar{T}$ deformation and deformation by a general linear combination of $T\bar{T}$ and $J\bar{T}$ in quantum mechanics. We construct flow equations for the partition functions of the deformed theory, the solutions to which yields the deformed partition functions as integral of the undeformed partition function weighted by some kernels. The kernel formula turns out to be very useful in studying the deformed two-point functions and analyzing the thermodynamics of…
This is the fourth article in the collection of reviews "Exact results on N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories", ed. J.Teschner. It describes a very useful mathematical representation of the results of the localisation computations of instanton partition functions as integrals having a form familiar from the study of matrix models. Techniques from the study of matrix models can be employed to extract important information on the instanton partition functions in various limits and special cases.
We study the instanton partition functions of two well-known superconformal field theories with mass deformations. Two types of anomaly equations, namely, the modular anomaly and holomorphic anomaly, have been discovered in the literature. We provide a clean solution to the long standing puzzle about their precise relation, and obtain some universal formulas. We show that the partition function is invariant under the SL(2,Z) duality which exchanges theories at strong coupling with those of weak coupling.
In this work we calculate the partition functions of $\mathcal{N}=1$ type 0A and 0B JT supergravity (SJT) on 2D surfaces of arbitrary genus with multiple finite cut-off boundaries, based on the $T\bar{T}$ deformed super-Schwarzian theories. In terms of SJT/matrix model duality, we compute the corresponding correlation functions in the $T\bar{T}$ deformed matrix model side by using topological recursion relations as well as the transformation properties of topological recursion relations under $T\bar{T}$ deformation. We check that the partition functions finite cut-off 0A and 0B SJT on generic …
We study the large $N$ 't Hooft expansion of the chiral partition function of 2d $U(N)$ Yang-Mills theory on a torus. There is a long-standing puzzle that no explicit holomorphic anomaly equation is known for the partition function, although it admits a topological string interpretation. Based on the chiral boson interpretation we clarify how holomorphic anomaly arises and propose a natural anti-holomorphic deformation of the partition function. Our deformed partition function obeys a fairly traditional holomorphic anomaly equation. Moreover, we find a closed analytic expression for the deform…
The central charge $C_T$ is computed for scalar and Dirac fields propagating according to GJMS-type kinetic operators acting on odd $d$-dimensional spheres in the presence of a spherical monodromy. The relation of $C_T$ to the derivatives of the free energy on the conically deformed sphere via the Perlmutter factor leads to a numerical quadrature. The variation of $C_T$ with the monodromy flux, $δ$, displays sign changes, exactly as in even dimensions. Closed forms for $C_T$ are derived when $δ$ equals 0 or 1/2 with the derivative order either even or odd and shown to agree with existing, even…
We study the dual descriptions recently discovered for the Seiberg-Witten theory in the presence of surface operators. The Nekrasov partition function for a four-dimensional N=2 gauge theory with a surface operator is believed equal to the wave-function of the corresponding integrable system, or the Hitchin system, and is identified with the conformal block with a degenerate field via the AGT relation. We verify the conjecture by showing that the null state condition leads to the Schrodinger equations of the integrable systems. Furthermore, we show that the deformed prepotential emerging from …
We study the low energy effective action of the $Ω$-deformed $\mathcal N =2^{*}$ $SU(2) $ gauge theory. It depends on the deformation parameters $ε_{1},ε_{2}$, the scalar field expectation value $a$, and the hypermultiplet mass $m$. We explore the plane $(\frac{m}{ε_{1}}, \frac{ε_{2}}{ε_{1}})$ looking for special features in the multi-instanton contributions to the prepotential, motivated by what happens in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit $ε_{2}\to 0$. We propose a simple condition on the structure of poles of the $k$-instanton prepotential and show that it is admissible at a finite set of poin…
We consider the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of two dimensional Yang--Mills theory on general curved backgrounds. We compute the deformed partition function through an integral transformation over frame fields weighted by a Gaussian kernel. We show that this partition function satisfies a flow equation which has been derived previously in the literature, which now holds on general backgrounds. We connect ambiguities associated to first derivative terms in the flow equation to the normalization of the functional integral over frame fields. We then compute the entanglement entropy for a general state …
Any two dimensional quantum field theory that can be consistently defined on a torus is invariant under modular transformations. In this paper we study families of quantum field theories labeled by a dimensionful parameter $t$, that have the additional property that the energy of a state at finite $t$ is a function only of $t$ and of the energy and momentum of the corresponding state at $t=0$, where the theory becomes conformal. We show that under this requirement, the partition sum of the theory at $t=0$ uniquely determines the partition sum (and thus the spectrum) of the perturbed theory, to…
A deformation of the N=2 topological string partition function is analyzed by considering higher dimensional F-terms of the type W^{2g}*Upsilon^n, where W is the chiral Weyl superfield and each Upsilon factor stands for the chiral projection of a real function of N=2 vector multiplets. These terms generate physical amplitudes involving two anti-self-dual Riemann tensors, 2g-2 anti-self-dual graviphoton field strengths and 2n self-dual field strengths from the matter vector multiplets. Their coefficients F_{g,n} generalizing the genus g partition function F_{g,0} of the topological twisted type…
In this note we make a test of the open topological string version of the OSV conjecture, proposed in hep-th/0504054, in the toric Calabi-Yau manifold $X= O(-3)\to\mathbf{P}^2$ with background D4-branes wrapped on Lagrangian submanifolds. The D-brane partition function reduces to an expectation value of some inserted operators of a q-deformed Yang-Mills theory living on a chain of $\mathbf{P}^1$'s in the base $\mathbf{P}^2$ of $X$. At large $N$ this partition function can be written as a sum over squares of chiral blocks, which are related to the open topological string amplitudes in the local…
We consider the half-genus expansion of the resolvent function in the $β$-deformed matrix model with three-Penner potential under the AGT conjecture and the $0d-4d$ dictionary. The partition function of the model, after the specification of the paths, becomes the DF conformal block for fixed $c$ and provides the Nekrasov partition function expanded both in $g_s = \sqrt{-ε_1 ε_2}$ and in $ε= ε_1+ε_2$. Exploiting the explicit expressions for the lower terms of the free energy extracted from the above expansion, we derive the first few $ε$ corrections to the Seiberg-Witten prepotential in terms o…
$T\overline{T}$-deformed two-dimensional quantum Maxwell theory on the torus is examined, taking into account nonperturbative effects in the deformation parameter $μ$. We study the deformed partition function solving the relevant flow equation at the level of individual flux sectors. Summing exactly the "instanton" series, we obtain a well-defined expression for the partition function at arbitrary $μ$. For $μ>0$, the quantum spectrum of the theory experiences a truncation, the partition function reducing to a sum over a finite set of positive-energy states. For $μ<0$ instead, the appearance of…
We study β-deformed matrix models with Penner type potentials, which correspond to N=2 SU(2) supersymmetric gauge theories with N_F=2,3, and 4 flavors. We compute explicitly the genus one corrections to the free energy of the matrix model and show that they match the corresponding results obtained from the Nekrasov partition function.
We consider the $Ω$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(2)$ gauge theory in four dimensions with $N_{f}=4$ massive fundamental hypermultiplets. The low energy effective action depends on the deformation parameters $\varepsilon_{1}, \varepsilon_{2}$, the scalar field expectation value $a$, and the hypermultiplet masses ${\bf m}=(m_{1}, m_{2}, m_{3}, m_{4})$. Motivated by recent findings in the $\mathcal{N}=2^{*}$ theory, we explore the theories that are characterized by special fixed ratios $\varepsilon_{2}/\varepsilon_{1}$ and ${\bf m}/\varepsilon_{1}$ and propose a simple condition on the structure …
In this paper we construct the exact representation of the Ising partition function in the form of the $ SL_q(2,R)$-invariant functional integral for the lattice free $(l,q)$-fermion field theory ($l=q=-1$). It is shown that the $(l,q)$-fermionization allows one to re-express the partition function of the eight-vertex model in external field through functional integral with four-fermion interaction. To construct these representations, we define a lattice $(l,q,s)$-deformed Grassmann bispinor field and extend the Berezin integration rules to this field. At $l=q=-1, s=1$ we obtain the lattice $(…
We provide the geometrical meaning of the ${\cal N}=4$ superconformal index. With this interpretation, the ${\cal N}=4$ superconformal index can be realized as the partition function on a Scherk-Schwarz deformed background. We apply the localization method in TQFT to compute the deformed partition function since the deformed action can be written as a $δ_ε$-exact form. The critical points of the deformed action turn out to be the space of flat connections which are, in fact, zero modes of the gauge field. The one-loop evaluation over the space of flat connections reduces to the matrix integral…
In this article we study large central charge partition function and entanglement entropy of $T\bar{T}$ deformed two dimensional conformal field theory, following the approach to $T\bar{T}$ deformation as integrated infinitesimal double trace deformation used by Guica et al.. For sphere partition function and entanglement entropy of half great circle with antipodal points being the entangling surface, we obtain different results compared to previous works, with more reasonable CFT limits and qualitatively different behaviour as the deformation parameter $μ$ goes to infinity, which contradicts …
When mass-deformed ABJM theory is considered on S(3), the partition function of the theory localises and is given by a matrix model. We solve this model at large-N in the decompactification limit, where the radius of the three-sphere is taken to infinity. In this limit, the theory exhibits a rich phase structure with an infinite number of third-order quantum phase transitions accumulating at strong coupling.
We examine the problem of counting bound states of BPS black holes on local Calabi-Yau threefolds which are fibrations over a Riemann surface by computing the partition function of q-deformed Yang-Mills theory on the Riemann surface. We study in detail the genus zero case and obtain, at finite $N$, the instanton expansion of the gauge theory. It can be written exactly as the partition function for U(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory on a Lens space, summed over all non-trivial vacua, plus a tower of non-perturbative instanton contributions. The correspondence between two and three dimensional gauge…
We investigate combinatorics of the instanton partition function for the generic four dimensional toric orbifolds. It is shown that the orbifold projection can be implemented by taking the inhomogeneous root of unity limit of the q-deformed partition function. The asymptotics of the combinatorial partition function yields the multi-matrix model for a generic $β$.
The $T{\bar T}$ deformation of a relativistic two-dimensional theory results in a solvable gravitational theory. Deformed scattering amplitudes can be obtained from coupling the undeformed theory to the flat space Jackiw--Teitelboim (JT) gravity. We show that the JT description is applicable and useful also in finite volume. Namely, we calculate the torus partition function of an arbitrary matter theory coupled to the JT gravity, formulated in the first order (vierbein) formalism. The first order description provides a natural set of dynamical clocks and rods for this theory, analogous to the …
We study the thermodynamic behaviour of the real $β$- and $γ_i$-deformation of $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory on $\mathbb{R}\times S^3$ in the planar limit. These theories were shown to be the most general asymptotically integrable supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric field-theory deformations of $\mathcal{N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills theory, respectively. We calculate the first loop correction to their partition functions using an extension of the dilatation-operator and Pólya-counting approach. In particular, we account for the one-loop finite-size effects which occur for operators of le…
The Gauge/Bethe correspondence relates Omega-deformed N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories to some quantum integrable models, in simple cases the integrable models can be treated as solvable quantum mechanics models. For SU(2) gauge theory with an adjoint matter, or with 4 fundamental matters, the potential of corresponding quantum model is the elliptic function. If the mass of matter takes special value then the potential is an elliptic solution of KdV hierarchy. We show that the deformed prepotential of gauge theory can be obtained from the average densities of conserved charges of the classica…
We derive a formula for the torus partition sum of the symmetric product of $T\bar T$ deformed CFT's, using previous work on long strings in (deformed) $AdS_3$, and universality. The result is given by an integral transform of the partition function for the block of the symmetric product, summed over its Hecke transforms, and is manifestly modular invariant. The spectrum is interpretable as a gas of multiply wound long strings with a particular orientation.
We compute the Hagedorn temperature of $μT \bar T + \varepsilon_+ J \bar T + \varepsilon_-T \bar J$ deformed CFT using the universal kernel formula for the thermal partition function. We find a closed analytic expression for the free energy and the Hagedorn temperature as a function of $μ$, $\varepsilon_+$, and $\varepsilon_-$ for the case of a compact scalar boson by taking the large volume limit. We also compute the Hagedorn temperature for the single trace deformed $AdS_3 \times S^1 \times T^3 \times S^3$ using holographic methods. We identify black hole configurations whose thermodynamics …
We consider mass-deformed theories with ${\cal N}\geq2$ supersymmetry on round and squashed three-spheres. By embedding the supersymmetric backgrounds in extended supergravity we show that at special values of mass deformations the supersymmetry is enhanced on the squashed spheres. When the $3d$ partition function can be obtained by a limit of a $4d$ index we also show that for these special mass deformations only the states annihilated by extra supercharges contribute to the index. By using an equivalence between partition functions on squashed spheres and ellipsoids, we explain the recently …
We investigate a deformed matrix model of type 0A theory related to supersymmetric Witten's black hole in two-dimensions, generalization of bosonic model suggested by Kazakov et. al. We find a free field realization of the partition function of the matrix model, which includes Ramond-Ramond perturbations in the type 0A theory. In a simple case, the partition function is factorized into two determinants, which are given by $τ$ function of an integrable system. We work out the genus expansion of the partition function. Holographic relation with the supersymmetric Witten's black hole is checked b…
The notion of $q$-deformed lattice gauge theory is introduced. If the deformation parameter is a root of unity, the weak coupling limit of a 3-$d$ partition function gives a topological invariant for a corresponding 3-manifold. It enables us to define the generalized Turaev-Viro invariant for cell complexes. It is shown that this invariant is determined by an action of a fundamental group on a universal covering of a complex. A connection with invariants of framed links in a manifold is also explored. A model giving a generating function of all simplicial complexes weighted with the invariant …
We compute the partition function on S^3 of 3d N=4 theories which arise as the low-energy limit of 4d N=4 super Yang-Mills theory on a segment or on a junction, and propose its 1d interpretation. We show that the partition function can be written as an overlap of wavefunctions determined by the boundary conditions. We also comment on the connection of our results with the 4d superconformal index and the 2d q-deformed Yang-Mills theory.
We consider two different physical systems for which the basis of the Hilbert space can be parametrized by Young diagrams: free complex fermions and the phase model of strongly correlated bosons. Both systems have natural, well-known deformations parametrized by a parameter Q: the former one is related to the deformed boson-fermion correspondence introduced by N. Jing, while the latter is the so-called Q-boson, arising also in the context of quantum groups. These deformations are equivalent and can be realized in the same way in the algebra of Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. Without a def…
We analyse the role of vertex operator algebra and 2d amplitudes from the point of view of the representation theory of infinite dimensional Lie algebras, MacMahon and Ruelle functions. A p-dimensional MacMahon function is the generating function of p-dimensional partitions of integers. These functions can be represented as amplitudes of a two-dimensional c=1 CFT. In this paper we show that p-dimensional MacMahon functions can be rewritten in terms of Ruelle spectral functions, whose spectrum is encoded in the Patterson-Selberg function of three dimensional hyperbolic geometry.
The orbifold generalization of the partition function, which would describe the gauge theory on the ALE space, is investigated from the combinatorial perspective. It is shown that the root of unity limit of the q-deformed partition function plays a crucial role on the orbifold projection. Then starting from the combinatorial representation of the partition function, a new type of multi-matrix model is derived by considering its asymptotic behavior. It is also shown that Seiberg-Witten curve for the corresponding gauge theory arises from the spectral curve of this multi-matrix model.
We initiate the study of $T\bar T$-like irrelevant solvable deformations in quantum field theory with boundaries and defects. For this purpose, we employ a general formalism developed in the context of spin chains, which allows us to derive both, the deformed bulk and boundary/defect scattering matrices of integrable models. Using the deformed scattering matrices, we derive the flow equation for the deformed finite volume spectrum, as well as the cylinder partition function and the exact $g$-function.
We reconsider the relation of superconformal indices of superconformal field theories of class S with five-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory compactified on the product space of a round three-sphere and a Riemann surface. We formulate the five-dimensional theory in supersymmetric backgrounds preseving N=2 and N=1 supersymmetries and discuss a subtle point in the previous paper concerned with the partial twisting on the Riemann surface. We further compute the partition function by localization of the five-dimensional theory on a squashed three-sphere in N=2 and N=1 supersymmetric…
We study phase structure of mass-deformed ABJM theory which is a three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=6$ superconformal theory deformed by mass parameters and has the gauge group $\text{U}(N)\times \text{U}(N)$ with Chern-Simons levels $(k,-k)$ which may have a gravity dual. We discuss that the mass deformed ABJM theory on $S^3$ breaks supersymmetry in a large-$N$ limit if the mass is larger than a critical value. To see some evidence for this conjecture, we compute the partition function exactly, and numerically by using the Monte Carlo Simulation for small $N$. We discover that the partition funct…
We argue that 6d N=(2,0) theory on S^1 x S^3 x C_2 reduces to the 2d q-deformed Yang-Mills on C_2 at finite area, as a small extension to the result of Gadde, Rastelli, Razamat and Yan. This is done by computing the partition function on S^1 x S^3 of 4d N=2 supersymmetric non-linear sigma model on T^*G_C, which gives the propagator of the 2d Yang-Mills.
