The dynamics of a coagulation-fragmentation equation with multiplicative coagulation kernel and critical singular fragmentation is studied. In a recent result by the authors (ref. [1]) it was proved that solutions of the self-similar fragmentation equation converge to equilibrium exponentially fast. This was done by showing a spectral gap in weighted $L^2$ spaces of the operator defining the time evolution. In the present work we prove that there is also a spectral gap in weighted $L^1$ spaces, thus extending exponential convergence to a larger set of initial conditions. We study the self-similar solutions of any sign of the equation u_{t}-div(|∇u|^{p-2}∇u)=|u|^{q-1}u, in R^{N}, where p,q>1. We extend the results of Haraux-Weissler obtained for p=2 to the case q>p-1>0. In particular we study the existence of slow or fast decaying solutions. For given t>0, the fast solutions u(t,.) have a compact support in R^{N} when p>2, and |x|^{p/(2-p)}u(t,x) is bounded at infinity when p<2. An explicit solution for a growth fragmentation equation with constant dislocation measure is obtained. In this example the necessary condition for the general results in \cite{BW} about the existence of global solutions in the so called self similar case is not satisfied. The solution is local and blows up in finite time.
In this paper we prove the global in time solvability of the continuous growth--fragmentation--coagulation equation with unbounded coagulation kernels, in spaces of functions having finite moments of sufficiently high order. The main tool is the recently established result on moment regularization of the linear growth--fragmentation semigroup that allows us to consider coagulation kernels whose growth for large clusters is controlled by how good the regularization is, in a similar manner to the case when the semigroup is analytic.
We are interested in the long-time asymptotic behavior of growth-fragmentation equations with a nonlinear growth term. We present examples for which we can prove either the convergence to a steady state or conversely the existence of periodic solutions. Thanks the General Relative Entropy method applied to well chosen self-similar solutions, we show that the equation can "asymptotically" be reduced to a system of ODEs. Then stability results are proved by using a Lyapunov functional, and existence of periodic solutions are proved thanks to the Poincaré-Bendixon theorem or by Hopf bifurcation.
