We discuss the implementation of two different truncated Generalized Gibbs Ensembles (GGE) describing the stationary state after a mass quench process in the Ising Field Theory. One truncated GGE is based on the semi-local charges of the model, the other on regularized versions of its ultra-local charges. We test the efficiency of the two different ensembles by comparing their predictions for the stationary state values of the single-particle Green's function $G(x) = \langle ψ^{\dagger}(x) ψ(0) \rangle$ of the complex fermion field $ψ(x)$. We find that both truncated GGEs are able to recover $G(x)$, but for a given number of charges the semi-local version performs better.
Dynamics under which a system of Ising spins relaxes to a stationary state with Bolzmann-Gibbs measure and which do not fulfil the condition of detailed balance are irreversible and asymmetric. We revisit the problem of the determination of rates yielding such a stationary state for models with single-spin flip dynamics. We add some supplementary material to this study and confirm that Gibbsian irreversible Ising models exist for one and two-dimensional lattices but not for the three-dimensional cubic lattice. We also analyze asymmetric Gibbsian dynamics in the limit of infinite temperature. W…
In the present paper, the Ising model with mixed spin-(1,1/2) is considered on the second order Cayley tree. A construction of splitting Gibbs measures corresponding the model is given which allows to establish the existence of the phase transition (non-uniqueness of Gibbs measures). We point out that, in the phase transition region, the considered model has three translation-invariant Gibbs measures in the ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic regimes, while the classical Ising model does not possesses such Gibbs measures in the anti-ferromagnetic regime. It turns out that the considered model…
The rate of convergence of the Gibbs sampler for the generalized one-dimensional Ising model is determined by the second largest eigenvalue of its transition matrix in absolute value denoted by $β^*$. In this paper we generalize a result from Shiu and Chen $(2015)$ for the one-dimensional Ising model with two states which gives a bound for $β^*$ . The method is based on Diaconis and Stroock bound for reversible Markov processes. The new bound presented in this paper improves Ingrassia's $(1994)$ result.
We investigate the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the one-dimensional quantum Ising model after a sudden quench of the transverse magnetic field. While for a translationally invariant system the statistical description of the asymptotic order parameter correlations after the quench can be performed in terms of the generalized Gibbs ensemble, we show that a breaking of translational invariance, e.g., by perturbing the boundary conditions, disrupts its validity. This effect, which of course vanishes in the thermodynamic limit, is shown to be very important in the presence of disorder.

The preparation of quantum Gibbs state is an essential part of quantum computation and has wide-ranging applications in various areas, including quantum simulation, quantum optimization, and quantum machine learning. In this paper, we propose variational hybrid quantum-classical algorithms for quantum Gibbs state preparation. We first utilize a truncated Taylor series to evaluate the free energy and choose the truncated free energy as the loss function. Our protocol then trains the parameterized quantum circuits to learn the desired quantum Gibbs state. Notably, this algorithm can be implement…
The Hamiltonian Mean-Field (HMF) model belongs to a broad class of statistical physics models with non-additive Hamiltonians that reveal many non-trivial properties, such as non-equivalence of statistical ensembles, ergodicity breaking, and negative specific heat. With this paper, we add to this set another intriguing feature, which is that of super-diffusive equilibrium dynamics. Using molecular dynamics techniques, we compare the diffusive properties of the HMF model in the quasi-stationary metastable state (QSS) and in the Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) regime. In contrast to the current state of kno…
The critical behavior of a 3D Ising-like system is studied at the microscopic level of consideration. The free energy of ordering is calculated analytically as an explicit function of temperature, an external field and the initial parameters of the model. Within a unified approach, both Gibbs and Helmholtz free energies are obtained and the dependencies of them on the external field and the order parameter, respectively, are presented graphically. The regions of stability, metastability, and unstability are established on the order parameter-temperature plane. The way of implementation of the …
In this paper, we detail and complete the existing characterizations of the decimation of the Ising model on $\Z^2$ in the generalized Gibbs context. We first recall a few features of the Dobrushin program of restoration of Gibbsianness and present the construction of global specifications consistent with the extremal decimated measures. We use them to consider these renormalized measures as almost Gibbsian measures and to precise its convex set of DLR measures. We also recall the weakly Gibbsian description and complete it using a potential that admits a quenched correlation decay, i.e. a wel…
We consider the asymptotic state after a sudden quench of the magnetic field in the transverse field quantum Ising chain starting from excited states of the pre-quench Hamiltonian. We compute the thermodynamic entropies of the generalised Gibbs and the diagonal ensembles and we find that the generalised Gibbs entropy is always twice the diagonal one. We show that particular care should be taken in extracting the thermodynamic limit since different averages of equivalent microstates give different results for the entropies.
The semi-classical discrete truncated Wigner approximation (dTWA) has recently been proposed as a simulation method for spin-$1/2$ systems. While it appears to provide a powerful approach which shows promising results in higher dimensions and for systems with long-range interactions, its performance is still not well understood in general. Here we perform a systematic benchmark on the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model and point to limitations of the approximation arising after sudden quenches into the quantum critical regime. Our procedure allows to identify the limitations of the s…
Generalized Gibbs ensembles have been used as powerful tools to describe the steady state of integrable many-particle quantum systems after a sudden change of the Hamiltonian. Here we demonstrate numerically, that they can be used for a much broader class of problems. We consider integrable systems in the presence of weak perturbations which both break integrability and drive the system to a state far from equilibrium. Under these conditions, we show that the steady state and the time-evolution on long time-scales can be accurately described by a (truncated) generalized Gibbs ensemble with tim…

We give a mathematical theory of the wetting phenomenon in the 2D Ising model using the formalism of Gibbs states. We treat the grand canonical and canonical ensembles.
By means of the discrete truncated Wigner approximation we study dynamical phase transitions arising in the steady state of transverse-field Ising models after a quantum quench. Starting from a fully polarized ferromagnetic initial condition these transitions separate a phase with nonvanishing magnetization along the ordering direction from a symmetric phase upon increasing the transverse field. We consider two paradigmatic cases, a one-dimensional long-range model with power-law interactions $\propto 1/r^α$ decaying algebraically as a function of distance $r$ and a two-dimensional system with…
We study the nonequilibrium properties of directed Ising models with non conserved dynamics, in which each spin is influenced by only a subset of its nearest neighbours. We treat the following models: (i) the one-dimensional chain; (ii) the two-dimensional square lattice; (iii) the two-dimensional triangular lattice; (iv) the three-dimensional cubic lattice. We raise and answer the question: (a) Under what conditions is the stationary state described by the equilibrium Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution? We show that for models (i), (ii), and (iii), in which each spin "sees" only half of its neighbo…
Extended de Gennes-Fisher (EdGF) local-functional method has been applied to the thermodynamic Casimir effect {\it away} from the critical point for systems in the Ising universality class confined between parallel plane plates with symmetric boundary conditions (denoted $(ab)=(++)$). Results on the universal scaling functions of the Casimir force $W_{++}(y)$ ($y$ is a temperature-dependant scaling variable) and Gibbs adsorption $\tilde G(y)$ are presented in spatial dimension $d=3$. Also, the mean-field form of the universal scaling function of the Gibbs adsorption $\tilde G(y)$ is derived wi…
We show that Gibbs states of non-homogeneous transverse Ising chains satisfy a \emph{shielding} property. Namely, whatever the fields on each spin and exchange couplings between neighboring spins are, if the field in one particular site is null, the reduced states of the subchains to the right and to the left of this site are \emph{exactly} the Gibbs states of each subchain alone. Therefore, even if there is a strong exchange coupling between the extremal sites of each subchain, the Gibbs states of the each subchain behave as if there is no interaction between them. In general, if a lattice ca…
We revisit the question of whether and how the steady states arising after non-equilibrium time evolution in integrable models (and in particular in the XXZ spin chain) can be described by the so-called Generalized Gibbs Ensemble (GGE). It is known that the micro-canonical ensemble built on a complete set of charges correctly describes the long-time limit of local observables, and recently a canonical ensemble was built by Ilievski et. al. using particle occupation number operators. Here we provide an alternative construction by considering truncated GGE's (tGGE's) that only include a finite n…
The Ising one-dimensional (1D) chain with spin $S=1/2$ and magnetoelastic interactions is studied with the lattice contribution included in the form of elastic interaction and thermal vibrations simultaneously taken into account. The magnetic energy term and the elastic (static) energy term based on the Morse potential are calculated exactly. The vibrational energy is calculated in the Debye approximation, in which the anharmonicity is introduced by the Gr{ü}neisen parameter. The total Gibbs potential, including both the magnetic field, as well as the external force term, is constructed and fr…
A new numerical approach to entanglement entropies of the Renyi type is proposed for one-dimensional quantum field theories. The method extends the truncated conformal spectrum approach and we will demonstrate that it is especially suited to study the crossover from massless to massive behavior when the subsystem size is comparable to the correlation length. We apply it to different deformations of massless free fermions, corresponding to the scaling limit of the Ising model in transverse and longitudinal fields. For massive free fermions the exactly known crossover function is reproduced alre…
We derive fluctuation relations for a many-body quantum system prepared in a Generalised Gibbs Ensemble subject to a general nonequilibrium protocol. By considering isolated integrable systems, we find generalisations to the Tasaki-Crooks and Jarzynski relations. Our approach is illustrated by studying the one-dimensional quantum Ising model subject to a sudden change in the transverse field, where we find that the statistics of the work done and irreversible entropy show signatures of quantum criticality. We discuss these fluctuation relations in the context of thermalisation.
We consider the stationary state properties of the reduced density matrix as well as spin-spin correlation functions after a sudden quantum quench of the magnetic field in the transverse field Ising chain. We demonstrate that stationary state properties are described by a generalized Gibbs ensemble. We discuss the approach to the stationary state at late times.
We consider the Generalized Gibbs Ensemble (GGE) in the context of global quantum quenches in XXZ Heisenberg spin chains. Embedding the GGE into the Quantum Transfer Matrix formalism we develop an iterative procedure to fix the Lagrange-multipliers and to calculate predictions for the long-time limit of short-range correlators. The main idea is to consider truncated GGE's with only a finite number of charges and to investigate the convergence of the numerical results as the truncation level is increased. As an example we consider a quantum quench situation where the system is initially prepare…
The generalized Gibbs ensemble has been shown to be relevant in the relaxation of a completely integrable system subject to a quantum quench, in the sense that it accurately predicts the steady values of some physical variables. We proceed to further question its relevance by giving the quenched system a second quench. The concern is whether the generalized Gibbs ensemble can also accurately predict the relaxed system's response to the second quench. Two case studies with the transverse Ising model and the hard-core bosons in one dimension yield an affirmative answer. The relevance of the gene…
Fluctuation-dissipation relations, i.e., the relation between two-time correlation and linear response functions, were successfully used to search for signs of equilibration and to identify effective temperatures in the non-equilibrium behavior of a number of macroscopic classical and quantum systems in contact with thermal baths. Among the most relevant cases in which the effective temperatures thus defined were shown to have a thermodynamic meaning one finds the stationary dynamics of driven super-cooled liquids and vortex glasses, and the relaxation of glasses. Whether and under which condi…

Dynamic correlation and response functions of classical and quantum systems in thermal equilibrium are connected by fluctuation-dissipation theorems, which allow an alternative definition of their (unique) temperature. Motivated by this fundamental property, we revisit the issue of thermalization of closed many-body quantum systems long after a sudden quench, focussing on the non-equilibrium dynamics of the Ising chain in a critical transverse field. We show the emergence of distinct observable-dependent effective temperatures, which rule out Gibbs thermalization in a strict sense but might st…
We study the decay of the false vacuum in the scaling Ising and tricritical Ising field theories using the Truncated Conformal Space Approach and compare the numerical results to theoretical predictions in the thin wall limit. In the Ising case, the results are consistent with previous studies on the quantum spin chain and the $φ^4$ quantum field theory; in particular we confirm that while the theoretical predictions get the dependence of the bubble nucleation rate on the latent heat right, they are off by a model dependent overall coefficient. The tricritical Ising model allows us on the othe…
We study equilibrium droplets in two-phase systems at parameter values corresponding to phase coexistence. Specifically, we give a self-contained microscopic derivation of the Gibbs-Thomson formula for the deviation of the pressure and the density away from their equilibrium values which, according to the interpretation of the classical thermodynamics, appears due to the presence of a curved interface. The general--albeit heuristic--reasoning is corroborated by a rigorous proof in the case of the two-dimensional Ising lattice gas.
In this work, we show that the dissipation in a many-body system under an arbitrary non-equilibrium process is related to the Rényi divergences between two states along the forward and reversed dynamics under very general family of initial conditions. This relation generalizes the links between dissipated work and Renyi divergences to quantum systems with conserved quantities whose equilibrium state is described by the generalized Gibbs ensemble. The relation is applicable for quantum systems with conserved quantities and can be applied to protocols driving the system between integrable and ch…
We consider the two-dimensional Ising model with long-range pair interactions of the form $J_{xy}\sim|x-y|^{-α}$ with $α>2$, mostly when $J_{xy} \geq 0$. We show that Dobrushin states (i.e. extremal non-translation-invariant Gibbs states selected by mixed $\pm$-boundary conditions) do not exist. We discuss possible extensions of this result in the direction of the Aizenman-Higuchi theorem, or concerning fluctuations of interfaces. We also mention the existence of rigid interfaces in two long-range anisotropic contexts.
We consider short-range Ising spin glasses in equilibrium at infinite system size, and prove that, for fixed bond realization and a given Gibbs state drawn from a suitable metastate, each translation- and locally-invariant function (for example, self-overlaps) of a single pure state in the decomposition of the Gibbs state takes the same value for all the pure states in that Gibbs state. We describe several significant applications to spin glasses.
